Do they have any deals for coming back to TiVo? My family left a few years ago because of a combination of Comcast launching HD in our area and the hard drive dying in the S2. I thought about ripping a hard drive out of an old PC, imaging it for the S2, moving it over to a new account, and plugging it in for a few days with an Ethernet cable to get the MSD on a new box, but I realized that was a ridiculous hassle for $100. I'm very dissatisfied with my new Media PC, and I want to come back to TiVo, but $900 for the 2TB TiVo is just pushing it a little, especially when I do have a functional (if annoying) quad-tuner DVR now.
When TiVo Mini comes out, I want to try and get my parents back on TiVo as well, as with Comcast's current pricing they would do well with a Premiere XL4 and Mini, and they would get XOD (Motorola system, I'm on an SA system). At that point could I activate it on my account with MSD, and then transfer it over to theirs to save the $100?
why cant i get any listings for the qam channels for twc i can get them all fine, i connected to the service twice and still no listings? they are the same channel numbers that the ota antenna picks up such as 4-1 etc. thanks for your help if anyone can help me out?
After perusing the "suggested" threads at thread creation, I still need to go ahead and post this. (YAY my first post on the forums)
We have a Tivo HD (Series 3) and just upgraded to Bright House Indiana's standard and digital packages from basic. However, I'm about to just cut ties with them altogether.
We already had a cableCARD installed for a couple years on the basic programming, but after three weeks of fiddling with it on the new channels they finally informed me that I needed a tuning adapter (no wonder it wouldn't work). A tech (private contractor) came out to install that, but since then I still am having trouble.
I can see the channels when I go to them and in the guide on my Tivo (DISNHD, ABCHD, etc). But the Tivo won't download any program information. Every channel (HD or SD) beyond the local channels and basic package channels say no information available in the guide. Therefore, I can record nothing. Not only am I getting charged for a month of service without actually getting it, my wife is worried that Duck Dynasty will be starting soon without being able to record it.
After multiple calls to the service department, many hours on hold, and three different techs at the house in the past month, Bright House has informed me it is the fault of the Tivo and not their signal. So they're not going to do anything more to help.
Now, I'm pretty technically proficient, but whatever is wrong is beyond me. Granted, I should have researched this more before just barging ahead with Bright House and moving up their food chain. But I didn't.
Could you please point me in the direction of a "how-to" for personally installing the adapter or give me some advice to get this figured out? I'm at a loss and ready to jump ship over to Dish for their free Hopper DVR promotion. But I'd much rather just figure it out and stick with Bright House. Thanks for any help you can provide.
I'm not seeing anybody else reporting this, but I'm having a minor problem with my Tivo Premiere. I'm not sure if the problem is with my remote(s) or the box.
When I go to the My Shows menu, if Netflix is highlighted because it was the last thing used, it very frequently goes directly into the Netflix app without a second click. So, if I want to watch anything else on the My Shows menu, I have to very quickly use the up arrow. I have two different Tivo remotes, the standard peanut and the slider keyboard one. I've seen this behavior with both. And, I'm certain that I'm not double clicking the Tivo button because it's a pain to have it go into Netflix and have to wait for Netflix to stop loading before I can try to get to My Shows again.
Will TiVo be discounting their lifetime on MSD's. Thinking of activating another premier. Just got a new 75HD unit for 35 from Best Buy :):) but I do dread going thru the cablecard thing with TWC. Thanks for the replies. Paul
I just purchased a Premiere, I previously had two Series 2. I could transfer a 30 minute show recorded on one S2 to the other S2 (recorded at 'High' setting) in about 15 minutes using wireless usb G adapters. Now when I try and transfer the same show from the S2 to the new Premiere it takes an hour! This is unacceptable, I can't even start a transfer and watch it right away. Any ideas? I have the Premiere hooked up to the wireless network using a wireless N bridge. My transfer rates are between 3 and 4Mb/s.
Thanks in advance.
The hard drive in my Tivo HD was upgraded 5 years ago to a 1TB drive. Because of the age of the drive I would like to replace it with a new drive before it fails.
I purchased a WD20EURS 2TB drive. I know that I cannot get more than 1TB of space.
Do I just use WINMFS with this command:
backup -qTao - /dev/sda | restore -s 128 -xzpi - /dev/sdb
I know I need to make sure that sda and sdb are the correct drives.
I've been a TiVo customer for a long time. I bought a TiVo Series 1, back when it carried the Philips label. Recently I bought a TiVo Premiere for my HDTV. I'm willing to pay for a TiVo box, even though my cable company's DVR would be cheaper, because I like TiVo's user interface. That's the heart of TiVo's business model, as I understand it: a premium user experience for a premium price.
When I began using my TiVo Premiere, I was slightly annoyed that there is no way to turn off the "recommendations" display at the top of the TiVo Central screen. These recommendations are supposedly based on my viewing habits, but lately they also include ads for paper towels and toilet paper. I'm pretty sure that my viewing habits don't suggest any unusual interest in paper products. Apparently TiVo's "recommendations" are for sale to the highest bidder. This diminishes their value and makes me wish there were a way to remove this clutter from my screen.
I was even more dismayed to find that, when I use rewind or fast-forward, the scroll bar is often decorated with another ad. My reaction was, "Seriously? Ads on a scroll bar?" When I am trying to skip ahead in some recorded show, I am definitely not looking for a discount coupon for toilet paper. This visual clutter serves only to make me annoyed, both with TiVo and the company that bought the ad.
It seems that TiVo is turning into just another company that is trying to auction my eyeballs to the highest bidder. There are plenty of other companies doing this, and they do not command premium prices or customer loyalty. I'm beginning to wonder why users should continue to pay a premium price for TiVo service.
My normal behavior is to pause the show I'm watching (from My Shows, never live), turn off the TV, and expect to return later to continue watching the show where I paused it. This worked flawlessly on my old HD. But on the Premiere, I frequently find that it's jumped to live TV when I come back in the morning after having paused the night before. Then I have to go search thru My Shows to try to remember where I was. Why??? And can it be avoided?
The first couple times it happened, it seemed like it might be because I had new messages, but that's no longer the case. And it doesn't happen every day, but often enough to be annoying. This is my biggest annoyance with the Premiere, second only to the lack of a button for "return to the recorded show I was watching, and which is tantalizingly playing in the preview window, but Tivo hasn't seen fit to provide any way to get straight to". Grr.
The way they discuss the episode baffles me. The discussion of Michonne and Tyreese particularly.
Host + the two guests said Rick was being foolish for wanting to kick Michonne out as soon as possible because she such a physically strong character, then they say the same thing about new guy Tyreese. We the viewers just met Tyreese, he seems like a good guy but from the viewers POV we barley know him and them and for all we know Tyreese's strategy of surviving the apocalypse is to turn tail and run. I know that's probably not the case but I hate when this show discusses new characters like they've already been fleshed out and we know themso well. Part of the dramatic struggle is us getting to know them and seeing Rick + gang know them.
I get the Governor will eventually retaliate, and the loss of Darryl makes the group a LOT weaker and the idea of beefing up your numbers sounds intriguing, but Michonne particularly don't seem so smart of an addition to the group. She hasn't shown to be a team player, before she knew Woodbury was a bad place she didn't want to be there, she might be bad ass with the swords, but Gov and gang have guns. Yeah she might have gotten the drop on Merle, but if it came down to protecting the prison I sense the writers will find some crafty ways to make her useful in a fight, similar to Aquaman always finding it convenient enemy bases were near water. Give the girl some lines dammit, she's 1 dimensional at the and not intriguing anymore, and seems too damaged to be of any use, pining over Andrea.
How I see Michonne vs guys with guns
I unplugged my Premier XL4 last night and when I plugged it back in it would not power on. I let it set for a long time and plugged it in and still no luck. i then took all the cables and Cablecard out and let it set and plugged it in. No luck there either.
I called Tivo and they suggested all the above and then gave up and are sending me a new one.
So I left it all unplugged and everything last night. Out of curiosity, I plugged it in this morning. Id did not immediately power one. After a couple hours I went and checked it again and it is powered on now.
I've noticed something like this before. Is there a trick to getting this thing to power on?
I will replace the box with what they send me, but am more curious about what is going on with this thing. I remembered reading a thread that I can't find now about having to unplug the cables to get it to power on.
Hi - I have successfully been using my S2 single tuner Tivo with DirecTV HD for the past 4 years. I'm now ready to cut the cord and move to an OTA antenna.
Is there a converter box or something similar that I need to purchase to make this work?
Thanks in advance
Disappointed that AirPlay not compatible with TiVo. Anyone know if SlingProjector compatible?
I purchased a WD20EURS 2TB drive to put in my new (well, refurbed) Premiere. The upgrade went fine, but when I fired things back up, there is a very noticeable "hum" coming from the drive. I know it's the drive because I noticed a similar "hum" from the original 500GB hard drive, but it was much quieter and tolerable.
My window to do an exchange with Amazon is closing in a couple days. Before I request an exchange, I thought I'd ask whether others have noticed this issue? Is there any Acoustic Management software I can try to see if it would make a difference?
Thanks for the help.
No thread yet? That's not a good sign.
I agree with everyone in last week's thread that said this is turning into "24." It will get old. The other young FBI agent sure took a long time to go around the back, huh?
So after killing Maggie, it looks like they only have 3 followers left. Can they make a series about trying to find the little kid?
I wanted to make a single episode thread because the full season thread seems to be for threadcrappers who don't even watch the show.
I liked this self-contained episode. The character of Hannah seems like a real person. She is not completely likeable (nor are real people).
I agree with what Sepinwall says about this episode being like an author writing a touching short story that focuses on the heroine and one of her personality traits. It did feel very literary. Or cinematic - it really did look like a Nancy Meyers movie. Actually, it felt like a play to me.
Joshua is the anti-Adam and I wonder how Adam would have reacted to Hannah when she opened up and spilled all her inner thoughts and feelings. It turned Joshua off completely and he was immediately done; but I think Adam would have eaten it up.
I love how Lena is so willing to be naked and show the world her less than perfect body. I love that she wears unflattering clothes like real women do.
One other thing Sepinwall points out : that final shot of Hannah walking away, which felt very '70s New York cinema.

I have a Philips Series 1 HDR 112 upgraded with network card and a 160GB drive. The last time I had to open the box was 5 years ago when I put in the 160GB hard drive. I previously had upgraded to a 40GB hard drive back in 2001.
I would get a new unit and move on with my life except for one thing. I have a lifetime subscription.
The picture and audio of the Live TV buffer have been freezing up very recently. I reboot Tivo and it locks up within an hour. That's a sure sign to me that the hard drive is failing.
After I first noticed it, I tried to use TyTool to get all my shows off of it, but I couldn't connect. So I tried to connect to TivoWebPlus. Also failed.
I telnetted into the machine and found that /var/hack was missing. I presume Tivo had rebooted itself and did some kind of emergency software repair or something.
I pulled the hard drive and plugged it into my PC, just as I vaguely remembered how to do from years and years ago. I followed the Steve Jenkins Newbie guide (xxxx://tivo.stevejenkins.com/network_cd.html), and I pulled out my old CD with the Linux install and MFS Tools and booted.
Following his instructions (because honestly I can't remember this stuff from memory from 5 years ago), I tried to mount partitions 4, 7 and 9.
mkdir /mnt4 [ENTER]
mkdir /mnt7 [ENTER]
mkdir /mnt9 [ENTER]
That went fine. The directories were created. Then I did:
mount /dev/hdc4 /mnt4 [ENTER]
mount /dev/hdc7 /mnt7 [ENTER]
mount /dev/hdc9 /mnt9 [ENTER]
After every mount command, when I hit enter, this was the result:
mount: you must specify the filesystem type
mount: you must specify the filesystem type
mount: you must specify the filesystem type
Following along in the guide, Steve mentions this as a possible error, but says that it will only happen with either partition 4 or partition 7, but not all three. attempting the next step, typing the df command yields this result:
Filesystem 1k-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/def/ram0 15863 9795 6068 62% /
No mention of my CDROM drive and no mention of any of the mounting points I was trying to create.
I did the shift-pgup thing and found some relevant data on my hard drive, if that helps in diagnosing what I'm doing wrong.
hdc: WDC WD1600AAJB-00WRA0, ATA DISK drive
ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7,0x3f6 on irq 14
ide1 at 0x170-0x177,0x376 on irq 15
hdc: 268435455 sectors (137439 MB) w/8192KiB Cache, CHS=266305/16/63
Any help? I'd like to put TivoFTP back in place on my old hard drive so I can retrieve several weeks worth of TV shows off the drive using TyTool before I lay the old drive to rest and try to put my 5-year old Backup Image (which I have on a CD) onto the new drive (which should be arriving by Thursday or Friday).
I installed a cachecard and 400Gb drive from TivoHeaven about 5 years ago and have been downloading from my Tivo happily since then. Yesterday TyTools (#10r4) would give a now showing list but when I picked something to get I was getting a socket error.
In an ill-advised late night fit of activity I changed some settings via nic_tivo_config and now I cannot even telnet to the Tivo anymore. So could someone point me in the right direction of instructions to connect and reset whatever I have mucked up.
If you have a season pass for this show, check the todo list. You may need to do some pruning. In my area there is a boatlod of episodes going to be recorded, on a timeline that makes it impossible for them to all be new episodes. Somebody not using the rerun label someplace, I guess.
How are you all?i am newbie here.i like this forum and want to say welcome to all who's join newly to this board.I hope so you enjoy your stay here. All the best...
