ToDo List switching channels

Mon, 02/18/2013 - 19:01
I set the Tivo to record a program on FXHD. Check the ToDo List the next day, and the recording channel has been switched to FXSD. So I change it back to HD. This usually works, but sometimes it switches to the SD channel again. Any idea what might be going on?

Tivo Server app crashes & Norton Internet Security 2012

Mon, 02/18/2013 - 17:33
I think Norton Internet Security 2012 is crashing the Tivo Server app on my 64-bit Windows 7 system. Tivo Server started to crash several weeks ago out of the blue. Yesterday, I clean reinstalled Windows 7, left it unpatched and un-upgraded and added only essential programs like Tivo Desktop, Bonjour and video card drivers. Minutes after installing and patching NIS 2012, Tivo Server began to crash.

I've been using NIS 2012 with Tivo Desktop for months and months without any problems so I know they used to run fine. I can only guess that a very recent update to NIS 2012 has introduced a conflict with the Tivo Server app. Unfortunately, the change seem to be part of the program - previous threads I found on these forums suggested firewalls conflicts was the problem but my crashes continue even after I add every component of Tivo software to the firewalls exceptions list.

Has anyone running NIS 2012 with Tivo Desktop had similar problems recently? I'm thinking of upgrading to NIS 2013 but I've stayed with the older version because of my dislike of some feature and interface changes made to the current version. Plus, given the fact the programs are so similar, I wouldn't be surprised if NIS 2013 had the same crashes. I am beginning to think my only option is to change antivirus software. Any other suggestions?

Western Digital Red Drives

Mon, 02/18/2013 - 16:31
Anybody tried one of the WD Red drives on a Tivo? They are made for NAS installs and run at 5400 instead of 7200 which is all good but the transfer rate is 6Gb/sec and I'm not sure if that can be jumpered down to 3Gb/sec.

My DVR Expander Partitioning question

Mon, 02/18/2013 - 16:01
I'm going to be selling my 500 GB WD My DVR Expander soon. After I upgraded my TiVo HD to a larger internal drive, I've been using the Expander as an extra NTFS volume on my PC.

I've deleted all the old files on it, but is there anything I need to do about the partitioning, or will the new owner's TiVo take care of all that?

TiVo WD Expander Issues

Mon, 02/18/2013 - 15:43
I recently purchased a 4XL and sold my two older HD units; I moved two of the TiVo expanders without incident to the 4XL and one of the series 3. The last unit would not pair with my 3rd Series 3. I had replaced the original WDC HD with a Hitachi and it had been functioning for years. I tried all the permutations for booting up and the TiVo would recognize the drive- even knew that it was a Hitachi, but would blow by the 3-Thumbs screen and return the message that the unit was not compatible. I spoke with WDC and the tech said SATA is SATA, shouldn’t matter. But, I replaced the Hitachi with a 1TB WDC and had the same issue. TiVo says that it has to be a specially blessed WDC TiVo compatible drive although I can’t find any part number that meets this criteria. I’m at the point of diminishing returns- barring a solution from the forum.

Premiere HD menus don't allow "chan. up/down" to move between episode details?

Mon, 02/18/2013 - 14:26
OK, I've tried searching, but the terms I've come up with are too generic, and none of the threads I've checked address this issue.

One of my TiVo HDs died, so I bit the bullet and bought a Premiere. I am getting used to the HD menus and enjoying the more accessible episode and season info, but one thing seems to be missing. I do not seem to be able to click "Select" on a specific episode, go to that episode's details, and then use Chan. Up/Down to page through the episodes in that folder. I do this all the time to flip through the episode details and see which ones might be repeats or look for the one that says "Resume play" instead of "Play" to see which one we had watched partway through.

Am I missing something, or did TiVo just somehow remove/forget to program this function in the HD menus?? I can do it on my Premiere if I switch to the old menus, and just because of this I'm considering switching back to the SD menus.

Why Intel could be the company to finally crack internet TV

Mon, 02/18/2013 - 13:55

Quote: Make no mistake: Intel is proposing something genuinely audacious here. It's live multichannel programming delivered over a broadband data pipe, but sold separately. It might be delivered over coaxial cable if that's where you get your broadband, but that's an accident. It could just as easily be over fiberoptic or wireless. You could switch providers and keep your TV service exactly the same; you could move across the country and keep your TV service exactly the same. Quote: Intel Media also proposes to offer a full slate of what Huggers calls "catch-up" television, on the model of BBC's iPlayer. This means subscribers would have digital access to every program for seven days after transmission, without having to program a DVR. That's real cloud-based delivery of television content. The service would also include an expanded video-on-demand library similar to what most cable, satellite, and telecom companies are offering to compete with Hulu and Netflix's libraries. Finally, it would offer "TV Everywhere"-style delivery of the service to every screen, from your television set to your mobile phone — a small miracle of technology and digital rights negotiation that's become almost commonplace in the last two years.

The Good Wife - 2/17/13 **SPOILERS**

Mon, 02/18/2013 - 13:52
This is still one of my favorite dramas and this episode was quite good. I liked how Alicia ended up yelling at Will but must admit that I started to laugh when they kissed (it struck me funny that they would go down that path again!). I also liked it when Eli and Elsbeth came up with a plan to foil the bad gov guys.

But I have a question. It seems they wanted to make sure we saw Kyle MacLachlan yawn at least a couple of times but then nothing happened because of it. Seemed strange unless his character shows up again and continues to yawn!

Help - do I have the wrong part?

Mon, 02/18/2013 - 12:56
I'm replacing my TIVOHD original hard drive with a WD10EURS 1TB. I'm using a Windows laptop and WinMFS. To connect the drives to the laptop I bought a Sabrent USB to SATA/IDE Hard Drive Adapter. I can't figure out how to attach it to the hard drive, the parts just don't fit. Did I buy the wrong thing? What about the smaller pieces in the box, do use those? You can tell I've never done this before.

I looked through the adapter thread but I can't figure it out, those seems to be for desktops. I was hoping to get this done today...what do I need?

It seems Fry's has the WD Digital Elements 2TB External HDD on a One-Day sale for $79.00. The link is below:

It's supposedly only available in-store, but all of the local stores in Los Angeles show it as being in stock.

PS: Don't forget to price match at Best Buy or whatever other local store you happen to be near!

New Tivo User...Initial Frustrations

Mon, 02/18/2013 - 10:52
I recently dropped my xfinity any room DVR service due to unreliable recording, missing entirely or pixelated, and lack of a 4 tuner unit. I'm 3 days into my service and while there are many noticeable improvements, here are a few disappointments:
  • xfinity on demand does not show, both xfinity and tivo agree the cards are set up properly, xfinity says on demand should be available immediately, tivo says 72 hours or 5 days depending upon who you talk to.
  • No support for amazon Prime videos
  • My xl4 did a reboot on its own while several recording were in process, tivo says it might have been a software update. I asked if one took place Saturday evening…then suggested might be updating because it was a new xl4…doesn't the software get updated during installation? Then suggested I shouldn't be using a surge protector since the box is warrantied for 90 days and an extended warranty is available....really?
  • Choppy netflix…I know much discussion on this already

Sync problems

Mon, 02/18/2013 - 09:59
Since early December I've had problems with my audio/video sync. Technical support acknowledges the problem and says there are others with the same problem. I don't understand why it's taking so long to fix the problem. Any thoughts?

The Amazing Race - OAD 2/17/2013

Mon, 02/18/2013 - 08:55
OK, time for an episode specific thread...

It was entertaining when they got down to the last 3 teams doing the sand castle needle in a haystack challenge. Some of those people were not digging below the sand castles at all. I bet there was a clue missed because of that.

The firefighters were so sure they could prevail in paddling the boat. They didn't realize they had the biggest disadvantage of the 3 teams because their center of gravity was going to be higher. I'm glad neither of the other teams were eliminated, because the blonds are nice to look at and the newlyweds will be fun to hate.

The Walking Dead - 2/17/13 - "Home"

Mon, 02/18/2013 - 08:44
The beginning of this episode was so slowly paced I was daydreaming when that first attack moment on Axel happened - it jolted me and it took me seconds to figure out what was going on.

I especially couldn't figure out if the guy in the tower was friendly or not.

What an amazing scene.

Oh you Walking Dead writers actors producers. I say this every week - this show works my every last nerve.

History of the Eagles (documentary on Showtime)

Mon, 02/18/2013 - 08:30
Man was this excellent! I was seriously not aware of all the origins and fighting. I was under the belief that it was Don and Glen that butted heads constantly and that Joe was difficult as well. That Felder was such a little baby about his place in the band, I mean I get he contributed a lot musically but like Glenn said you never knew where you would start singing on a lot of his stuff it was just instrumental. Great but instrumental. Without Glenn and Don writing the lyrics they would have been no where or at best maybe a Grateful Dead type band.

I also forgot how funny Joe is. the story about him and Belushi trashing the hotel and painting their jeans black to get into the fancy restaurant was just hysterical.

Very well done all the way around, oh and forgot how freaking hot Linda Rontstadt was.

I Dream of Jeannie Marathon!

Those lucky enough to have WLNY!

Online Tivo website has different channel listing from device

Mon, 02/18/2013 - 01:18

I tried a quick search for this topic, but I couldn't find anything so I thought I'd ask. I got a new Tivo Premiere unit, and it's setup correctly with a Cable Card and the right channel listing. However I was trying to use the online My Tivo website to setup Season Passes and I noticed it somehow is using a different channel listing and I don't know how to reset it to use the right one. Has anyone experienced this before?

Random reboots on Premiere XL4

Sun, 02/17/2013 - 23:51
I'm new to TiVo and took the plunge with two brand new XL4's. Comming from the HTPC world, I expected the TiVo's would be far more stable, however both units have randomly rebooted while watching TV several times now with no discernible pattern. Is this a known issue?

Downton Abbey S03E09 OAD 2/17/2013

Sun, 02/17/2013 - 23:46
...and there it was. I guess I'll spoiler-tag my comment about Matthew's accident

Spoiler: because some people might not know for sure that he's dead. The only spoiler I knew coming into this PBS season was that Dan Stevens had decided not to come back for season 4. And then with all the talk of "get your handkerchiefs ready" -- which was impossible to avoid -- I knew Matthew would die here in the last episode. Kind of a bummer to watch the episode knowing that was coming, even though I didn't know how. Took some of the punch out of that ending.

Otherwise, I liked this episode and the season as a whole. It's kind of funny how free the show feels to leap forward in time. If they keep this up, the Dowager is going to be over 100! But it pays off, because they've done a good job of subtly advancing the world around the Crawleys. Automobiles, telephones, electricity all commonplace now, and even the dress has evolved. I've really enjoyed watching time march on, even if the characters haven't.

I wonder if we've seen the last of the fired maid.
