The Great Escape on TNT - Anyone else in? (no spoilers please)

Fri, 06/22/2012 - 11:18
I wasn't going to watch this, but after reading this article, I think I will:

Since it's by the producers/directors of The Amazing Race and also Howard/Glazer it should be well done.

TivoAir WebBrowser (DEVELOPER CALLOUT)

Fri, 06/22/2012 - 09:28
An Adobe air developer "Scott Johnson" created a WebBrowser capable of Flash playback and JavaScript. I have emailed back and fourth about broadcasting the app into Bonjour ports and its possible we maybe closer then ever imagined.

install or learn more use search engine type in -> lucentminds . com adobe air
I'm unable to post the link, since I reactivated my membership here.

This is an call-out to all interested in helping get the browser viewable as a Tivo app.

Premiere Changing Channels

Fri, 06/22/2012 - 09:01
Has anyone seen this problem ? Last night my tivo was recording 2 movies. One on Sci-Fi and one on USA. I was watching the tuner that was on USA. When the movie ended and the recoring stopped the tivo switched the channel to TNT. When I pulled up the guide it still parked on the USA channel. If I press the button that swaps tuners it will switch to the other tuner (Sci-Fi channel) and then switch back and its back on the USA channel. This has happened quite a few times even when only one tuner is recording, but I thing it only started happening since the last update. I tried rebooting but that hasen't helped.

Premiere XL4 DVR Signal Strength

New XL4 came w/old software ver??

Fri, 06/22/2012 - 03:13
I bought a new Tivo Premiere XL4 from best buy today (June 22, 2012) and had expected the software version to be fairly up to date. I wasn't expecting it to be loaded with a version that's been out in the last day or for the last few months for that matter. BUT, I found my machine had version 14.9.2-01-2-758! I thought I read version 20 has been out since Jan 2012?

Question: Is it normal for newly manufactured Tivo's to be loaded with an old version? Is there a way to confirm when my box was manufactured??

Now I'm wondering if Tivo took a hard drive over 8 months old or took inventory from old Tivo's and slapped the XL4 label in the front. It's a bit disconcerting to me that I may have paid top dollars for old equipment.

UPDATE: found a label on the box saying Made in Mexico with a date 11-Apr-12. I'm assuming that means April 11, 2012. But still makes me wonder why mine had software version 14?? I got the impression reading reviews and such that their boxes came with the latest. . .

any thoughts?

The taylormade r9 driver is important for you

Fri, 06/22/2012 - 02:05
We all know that a thousand-li journey is started by taking the first step. Then golfing is not as easy as you imagine, there are lots of skills in the game, how to choose the right game is important to you!

This taylormade r9 driver helps promote draws and fades with different settings allowing for a side to side trajectory change of up to 40 yards, with the same settings also helping to reduce hooks and slices.

The shallower face and larger head allow a large sweet spot and confidence at address. What makes R9 driver special is the use of Flight Control Technology, which helps the head to be adjusted to 8 different positions altering trajectory and direction by changing the loft, lie and face angle.

The r9 driver includes one 16-gram & two 1-gram changeable weights. This allows you to change the clubs center of gravity location to affect side-to-side flight by up to 35 yards. Put the heavy weight in the heel port to promote a draw, in the toe port to promote a fade, and in the middle port to promote a straight flight.

Regardless of what loft and customized shaft they have tried to correct for this problem, this type of player realizes that the head design and CG location of R9 Driver is what is needed. Cheap golf club sets the face depth of the driver is at the USGA legal limit.

Then you must know how to get along with the r9 driver golf clubs online, right?

The design of callaway diablo edge

Fri, 06/22/2012 - 02:04
What's the design for callaway diablo edge irons?

A lower, deeper CG is designed to make the sweet spot more accessible at lower impact locations. It generates greater, more consistent distance and perfects accuracy for more greens in regulation.

The callaway diablo edge did not have that problem at all, in fact due to the distance I was getting out of the irons, you could in fact drop another one and add a 3rd hybrid if you really struggle with long irons. The hybrids are extremely easy to hit and are ultra forgiving.

The use of such golf clubs is simple and only requires skill of the player when it comes to getting the sweet spot. New features could also be introduced in such irons as they could be used for a better performance by adding new scales of thickness and surface shine.

The callaway diablo edge irons also feature Callaway’s “Solid Impact Sole,” designed to improve turf interaction and help golfers who catch the ball fat or thin. They are a game-improvement set aimed at mid- and higher-handicappers.

The Solid Impact Sole delivers smooth turf interaction and is designed to mitigate the effects of heavy and thin shots. It also improves the impact location on the face for greater distance.

The goal of callaway x22

Fri, 06/22/2012 - 00:34
The Callaway X22 irons are a result of many hours of engineers consulting with professional golfers to come up with a clean looking club head designed for amateur player.

Some features of the callaway x22 are perimeter weighting, modified Tru-Bore, tour inspired head shape, and VFT technology.

These clubs are designed with maximum inertia moment which helps in giving the perfect gravity, flight and velocity to the ball when it is being hit. its head is designed for tour players with modified Tru-Bore design and VTF technology. all of these technologies make them quality oriented and authentic clubs and these are good in price too.

This iron set has been played in an appropriate fashion. The wear is typical for a set of it/s model age that has been well taken care of. Ball wear is visible with the only signs of cosmetic wear being limited to minor scratches to the finish and typical groove wear.

The callaway x22 irons have a precision notch weighting. This type of weighting allows Callaway to precisely position weight on the golf club to create a higher moment of inertia. This then generates one of the most forgiving golf clubs while not altering the center of gravity and messing up the trajectory.

Good quality wholesale golf clubs is designed for accomplished golfers seeking premium feel and stability.

American Restoration RANT!!!

Thu, 06/21/2012 - 23:42
Is it me or has American Restoration become more about Rick and his family then the actual process of restoring. They show very little or at times NONE at all of the restoration process.

How can this be called RESTORATION when they don't even show much of the process anymore. When the show started first they showed quite a bit of the process.

Just wondering if it is just me that noticed this and has a gripe about it or what!

TCD652160 Reboot & Lockup

Thu, 06/21/2012 - 21:32
Hi all,

I've got 4 Series 3 HD Tivo's and one Premiere. All have expanded drives. However, one of the Series 3's seems to suffer reboots and lockups.

When it first happened, it was about a year into the Tivo's life. No odd noises from the drive. I'd reboot and it work for a "little while" (a day or so) and then I'd come home, found it rebooted and was stuck on the startup screen. Eventually it started happening every 15 minutes, and I replaced the drive. No issues. I've replaced the drive twice, and it's about every 4-6 months I'm doing this.

Yesterday, I came home and found it dead. It would boot up, I'd see the "starting up!" screen and when I'd come back in 15 minutes, it was at a grey screen. I couldn't get it back running, so I left it unplugged. I plugged it into today and it came up - and stood up for maybe 2 hours.

There doesn't seem to be a heat issue; I have a SDV adapter on top of it, but it's elevated off of it so there is clearance (a good 3 inches). There is an AC in the room, so the room is relatively cool. The Tivo itself is also on a UPS.

I haven't looked @ the power supply, but I'd just been reading a bit - could it be the PS going bad? I'm wondering why replacing the drive seems to make it work, though.

Occasional partial recordings

Thu, 06/21/2012 - 18:49
Happened twice in two days. A couple of dozen recording with no problem prior and a few afterward with no problem. Only recorded about 40 or 50 minutes of a two hour movie. Is this common? Is there anything that I need to do?

Tivo Premiere with plenty of space.

Troubleshooting Guide

Thu, 06/21/2012 - 17:46
Hello All... I have an aging TiVo HD that has been experiencing some unusual issues and performance, and I could use some assistance in isolating the problem.

Setup:
TiVo HD, TWC, Cisco SDV adapter, Multi-Stream CableCard

Symptom:
I'll have shows going on both tuners, leveraging the buffer. Typically, at least one is an unencrypted HD channel (like NBC, CBS, etc). At some point the picture will stutter and after that, when I flip back to that unencrypted channel, the picture has completely frozen. I can go back in the buffer, but it as though the signal has completely stopped. I can try to go forward and get to live TV, but the arrow is at the end of the buffer and there's no picture/audio. I have to change the channel and change it back to the original station to continue viewing. When I turn it back, it tunes it immediately. There are also times where there is a "hiccup" in the buffer that I just can't play. I try to skip over it, but FF doesn't work, I have to 30s skip it to continue watching.

Potential Culprits:
Bad cable signal - Hey, it is TWC after all. However, my phone and high speed have been solid and reliable for nearly a year. I've tried to catch it on the signal meter, but haven't had any luck yet.

Bad cable card - The first one TWC gave me never worked, this one pairs and works, but looks like the guy ran it over with the truck before he got it to me.

Bad SDV adapter - It has been pretty good too (knock on wood)

Bad HDD - This is where I get nervous. My box was purchased in '07, so it is nearly 5 years old. Does anyone have a feel for the HDD lifespans in that device? It was moved once last summer, but it has been dealt with very gently in that time. It isn't rebooting or completely freezing the unit, it is just a stutter and this odd tuning behavior. That doesn't feel like an HDD.

Any thoughts on where to get started?

TiVo for Android Tablets

Need (simple) help with WinMFS

Thu, 06/21/2012 - 16:32
The hard drive in my S2 recently started the GSOD-reboot loop. As it is a 1TB with a lot of recordings I want to keep, I intend (if I can) to do a backup onto a new 1TB.

Earlier today I took the drive out of the Tivo, connected it to my PC, and ran WinMFS just to test if the HD controller was working. (I ran SMART on the drive a few days ago and it reported back as fine.) An interesting thing happened with WinMFS: although the program recognized the drive as being connected, MFSInfo reported that it "Not a TIVO drive". When I ran "View Drive Information," the lines where Tivo Software and Model Number should be were blank. This leads me to think that somehow the TIVO software has become corrupted, and that I would probably need to restore the software before I could do a clone of the dying drive to the new drive.

So here are my questions: I have a virgin 6.2 kernel I DL'd from here. Can I copy this kernel (using WinMFS>Tools>Restore Tivo Drive) to "restore" the OS on the dying drive? If I try this, will I inadvertently wipe my recordings? Any help is more appreciated than you know, and thanks for bearing with this longer post.

Any consensus on best disk for THR-22?

Thu, 06/21/2012 - 15:53
I posted this on dbstalk.com, but this may be a better forum...

The pausing/pixelation problem we were seeing with our THR-22 seems to have been getting worse.

We seem to have the most trouble with 242, USAHD, which if I read the transponder map correctly is on d10/103°. I've re-aligned the antenna, which brought my 103c signals up from mid-80s to high 90s.

This still feels like a software bug to me, like interrupt handling or poorly managed contention, but DirecTV isn't acknowledging any issues, so I suppose that if the signal improvement doesn't help, my next step will be to replace the Seagate pipeline drive we're using with something else.

Is there any consensus on hard disk brand, model, features, or settings that might predict reliable operation?

Thanks,
Heath

WINMFS: "Restore Bootpage" Question

Thu, 06/21/2012 - 15:25
When you restore a bootpage using WinMFS's "Restore Bootpage" option, does it simply write a copy of a saved bootpage to the drive, or does it completely wipe the drive? (In other words, if I restore a bootpage through WinMFS, does initiating that process mean that I'll lose everything on the drive?) Any help at all is more appreciated than you know! :(

TiVo Suggestions recording the wrong channel

Thu, 06/21/2012 - 13:10
We're having this problem with our Series 2? single tuner TiVo and our Series2? dual tuner TiVo, but not on our Premiere. On all of them our season passes are being recorded correctly. On the two SD units only - but on both of them - TiVo suggestions may or may not be the programs they say they are (about a 50-50 chance). The channels it says it recorded, but did not, are correctly shown as in the channel list as channels we do receive. On one of the TiVos EVERY time it records the wrong channel the channel it actually records is the local CBS station. This is happening on the dual tuner. I know of no way to determine which tuner recorded which show, so I don't know if this affects only one of the tuners (the reason for the 50% chance of being correct)??

This problem surfaced with both TiVo units at the same time (a few weeks ago). Both are connected to cable boxes, with IR channel-changing. Those connections appear to be fine. I've rebooted both of the TiVos and both of the cable boxes, with no improvement.

Any ideas? It sounds like a software change to me.
