On my Tivo 2 and my Tivo HD if I started watching a show while it was recording and then went to live TV, when I returned to watch the show, It would start from where I left off and have "resume playing" in the menu. I have noticed that my Tivo Premier goes back to the beginning of the show and has "start" in the menu. This will be real inconvient if I want to watch other shows during Super Bowl game. Is there some option I can set?
Is there an easy way to move shows on season pass between HD and SD? (or channel change for the same show name)
It's kind of painful to create new season pass and delete the old one, and then move the priority to the original place.
Just wondering if there was an easier way.
I watched this episode at lunch today (anything to drown out the beeping).
I liked it and I liked the team idea. I think this will be an interesting season.
I also agree with the judges picks for winners and losers. So we are off to a good start!
Disclaimer: This will be lengthy, my apologies
I've got a Hughes GXCEBOT DirecTiVo box with two tuners, purchased over a decade ago, and it's been in constant use since then. The only changes I've made to it from stock was to put a bigger HD in it way back just after purchase.
Back in the day, I had an oval dish with a dual-LNB output connected to the unit. But a couple of years ago, I got an HD set for one room, and DTV put an H24 in for it. They changed out the dish at that time and installed an oval dish. It's got a single LNB device on it, with four cables coming from it into the house. Three of those cables are used. One to the HD box, and two to the Hughes DirecTiVo.
About two weeks ago, I started having problems with the Hughes box. I'd wake up in the morning and find the system "searching for Satellite signal" on both tuners. I was able to "fix" the issue the first time with a reboot. It happened again a couple of days later, and that time it took two reboots to fix. Another day or so passed and the problem returned. This time no amount of reboots fixed the problem, so I set about to seeing if my cables were good.
In the course of troubleshooting, I found that if I switched around the cables at the grounding block, I could get a signal on one of the tuners. As it was getting late, I left the unit running overnight with just one tuner. The following day, I swapped the cables around on the grounding block some more, and was able to get both tuners up and running, with the HD system unaffected. However, I noted that if I pulled the power from the HD box, or disconnected the Sat cable running to it, I'd lose signal on both tuners of the Hughes SD box.
Very odd, so I thought I was having an LNB problem. I called DTV and for $50 bucks, they sent out a tech who swapped out the LNB. Well, since I'm posting here, you all already know that the problem wasn't fixed. In fact, I haven't been able to get both tuners back up and running. I can get one tuner going at a time (doesn't matter which), but as soon as the other one is connected, both are dead in the water. The HD set remains unaffected, but still has the oddity that if I power it down, or disconnect it, I won't get anything on either tuner of the Hughes.
As for signal strength, it's fine by all measurements, and all cables test fine, so that's not the issue. However, if I look at the signal strength via the Hughes box, I'll see one of two things happening. Either the signal is there, and then it's not (alternating about once a second), or the signal is just plain missing from a set of transponders. Currently, I can get good signal on all the odd transponders, but zero signal (as seen by the Hughes box) on all the even transponders.
As part of the troubleshooting, the tech installed a multi-switch (unpowered) to see if that would help. It didn't. The multi-switch was removed.
As a last resort, the tech brought in an R16 box (which I was told was the equiv box, but DTV software, not TiVo), and hooked it up in place of the Hughes. The signal seen by the R16 looked right on the various transponders. (didn't seen real TV, because that would have required an activated card).
So, it seems that the problem is with my Hughes box. But what could it be?
Bother tuners work just fine on their own, and I was able to get the both working together up until the DTV tech replaced the LNB (although I haven't yet gone through all the combinations of switching cables around).
At the moment, I've set the Hughes box to use just one tuner, and it's working fine as-is, but I'd like to get the 2nd tuner back up and running. Remember, both tuners work fine on their own, just can't get them working together.
So, any ideas? I know there had been problems with caps in the past, but this doesn't seem to be the same problem. (or is it?)
Any ideas are appreciated. ...and thanks for reading this far. I know it was long-winded.
Hi, folks ...
I moved a Tivo Premier box from Verizon FIOS (in Mass) to TWC (in Raleigh).
Ever since the move, Tivo hasn't recorded any suggestions.
Fox announced that it is pulling Ben & Kate from its lineup effective immediately. How much of this is because it looks like it wants to get Raising Hope's season done by the end of March remains to be seen.
Here are the announced replacement shows:
1/29 - a second new Raising Hope
2/5 - a second new Raising Hope
2/12 - the State of the Union address
2/19 - a New Girl repeat
2/26 - a second new Raising Hope
3/5 - American Idol
Hell's Kitchen starts on Tuesdays on 3/12; the only other Raising Hope announced is the season finale on Thursday 3/28 (in place of Glee, which will probably be on its annual "spring break")
The press release says that Ben & Kate will return with new episodes "at a later date", but they said that about Breaking In and I Hate My Teenage Daughter when they started their "hiatuses" as well...
One of the few things I liked about my DirecTV receivers was the ability to pin favorite channels to a quick list that could be accessed by pressing the Up arrow on my remote.
Is there anything similar with the TiVo?
CBS is airing a new episode of Elementary after the Superbowl. It's scheduled for 10p. I suggest padding an hour. CBS won't start the show after 11p since it wouldn't count in the primetime ratings.
I got a pop-up message: "Are you sure you want to navigate away from this page and not chat with girls?" when I clicked on a thread.
This is with Chrome on Mac OS (with Ghostery blocking ads!)
I could come from another tab except it was a click here that triggered the pop up.
Methinks an ad server has some baddies on it.
Surprise I'm first post. Seems like Series Finale. I'm satisfied with the ending, Colorado destroyed, President shot, rest of surviving crew back on US soil.
At 1st I couldn't find a huge use for it, but I may be able to use it with my iPad in areas I don't have a TV. How many people have one on here and how do you like it?
I just got a tivo premiere. I don't really know too much about all this stuff, so I don't know if this is a stupid question or not so please bear with me. I have a cable box, the tivo and the cable internet. If I take the cable from the wall and it goes into the in side of the splitter, one cable goes from out side of splitter to cable box and the instructions (I think) are saying to put the other side into the tivo so where does the cable from the modem go? Thanks in advance.
I am just switching from D*TV satellite to Comcast and Tivo. I bought a brand new, in never opened box Premier for $50 and was wondering if it is possible to make a backup of the internal drive using a disk duplicator. I have a Startech disk duplicator for work and can't see why this would not work. Are there any pitfalls for doing this? What drive should I use to do the backup? My Premier only records 45 hours...could I use this as an opportunity to increase the recording capacity by adding a larger drive?
No thread yet? Did anyone watch?
I was kind of annoyed by how things went between Kacie B and Sean when she brought up some of the drama in the house. Oh well.
As for Tierra, I really wonder if she fell just to get attention. I don't like Amanda.
The first appearance of a documentary crew member!
This was the first episode all season where I thought everything really gelled. Even Dwight, whom they've struggled to integrate all season, didn't feel out of place. You can see the Jim/Pam conflict about to come to a head, and I hope the payoff's as good as this setup.
I have 3 THR22 with 2TB drives. When "Recently Deleted" fills up (500 or 600) programs it slows down the units. Is there a quick way to empty the "Recently Deleted" folder?
After many years of being a loyal Windows Media Center user, I've finally had enough of the bad EPG data, irritating configuration errors, Windows updates and overall upkeep aside from the fact that Microsoft has abandoned any further development to WMC. That said, I've decided to take the plunge with two Premiere XL4's and lifetime service and am waiting to receive them. I'm confident I'll enjoy my TiVo experience, however there are a few things I think I'll miss and hope TiVo will add these obvious omissions in the near future...
With the advent of whole home DVR service, these seem like no-brainers:
Dynamic tuner pooling (with my HTPC, I could easily add additional tuner cards and they would work together and be available for recording or to extenders on demand)
A unified experience which pools all recorded TV, Season Passes, scheduled recordings, etc. from multiple TiVo's into one place instead of having to hunt for which TiVo contains what I'm looking for. Case in point, I'm not sure how I should break up and allocate scheduled recordings between the two units since they can't share tuners between each other to reduce scheduling conflicts. This could potentially overwhelm one, while the other is sitting idle - seems like a huge waist of resources...
In my opinion, these improvements would make for a much more robust whole home DVR experience.
Looking to get a Tivo Stream. Used, new, I don't care. Cosmetic issues, no papers, nothing but a box and power cord, that's fine. I know what it is, I know how to use it, and it'll be hidden in a cabinet. :) What I DO insist on is that it be functioning.
Not looking to pay the $130+shipping that tivo.com offers, hence this ad.
PM me if you have one you're looking to let go - I'll be notified immediately via email.
Thanks! If this ad is still up, I'm still looking.
I thought I was doing everything correctly until I tried to create a dvd (because the hard drive was filling up). But ran into a problem with Sonic MyDVD.
I am using Tivo Desktop v2.8.
DirectShow Dump v0.1.1
Sonic MyDVD I think an older v3 (came with my Dell many years ago). I do not think I can upgrade to newer version without buying the newer version. Something I prefer not to do.
So I dowmload tivo file to my pc using TivoDesktop. I them convert using DirectShow Dump creating a Mpeg file. When I try and import into MyDVD, get error about Divx.
I am not that knowlegeable about different codex and video file versions. The mpeg will play on my computer in Windows Media, but wanted to get video off of hard drive to free up space and be able to watch on my TV. My TV does not have a PC hookup.
I would appreciate some direction about Divx and Sonic or another path to persue, using the many free software available.
ps. I did some searching and found many references but they were not the same as my problem and I quickly became confused. So I did try to find a solution first.
