After many years of being a loyal Windows Media Center user, I've finally had enough of the bad EPG data, irritating configuration errors, Windows updates and overall upkeep aside from the fact that Microsoft has abandoned any further development to WMC. That said, I've decided to take the plunge with two Premiere XL4's and lifetime service and am waiting to receive them. I'm confident I'll enjoy my TiVo experience, however there are a few things I think I'll miss and hope TiVo will add these obvious omissions in the near future...
With the advent of whole home DVR service, these seem like no-brainers:
Dynamic tuner pooling (with my HTPC, I could easily add additional tuner cards and they would work together and be available for recording or to extenders on demand)
A unified experience which pools all recorded TV, Season Passes, scheduled recordings, etc. from multiple TiVo's into one place instead of having to hunt for which TiVo contains what I'm looking for. Case in point, I'm not sure how I should break up and allocate scheduled recordings between the two units since they can't share tuners between each other to reduce scheduling conflicts. This could potentially overwhelm one, while the other is sitting idle - seems like a huge waist of resources...
In my opinion, these improvements would make for a much more robust whole home DVR experience.
Looking to get a Tivo Stream. Used, new, I don't care. Cosmetic issues, no papers, nothing but a box and power cord, that's fine. I know what it is, I know how to use it, and it'll be hidden in a cabinet. :) What I DO insist on is that it be functioning.
Not looking to pay the $130+shipping that tivo.com offers, hence this ad.
PM me if you have one you're looking to let go - I'll be notified immediately via email.
Thanks! If this ad is still up, I'm still looking.
I thought I was doing everything correctly until I tried to create a dvd (because the hard drive was filling up). But ran into a problem with Sonic MyDVD.
I am using Tivo Desktop v2.8.
DirectShow Dump v0.1.1
Sonic MyDVD I think an older v3 (came with my Dell many years ago). I do not think I can upgrade to newer version without buying the newer version. Something I prefer not to do.
So I dowmload tivo file to my pc using TivoDesktop. I them convert using DirectShow Dump creating a Mpeg file. When I try and import into MyDVD, get error about Divx.
I am not that knowlegeable about different codex and video file versions. The mpeg will play on my computer in Windows Media, but wanted to get video off of hard drive to free up space and be able to watch on my TV. My TV does not have a PC hookup.
I would appreciate some direction about Divx and Sonic or another path to persue, using the many free software available.
ps. I did some searching and found many references but they were not the same as my problem and I quickly became confused. So I did try to find a solution first.
My two boxes are close together and I an looking at hardwiring them to my wireless router, which is about 50' away.
I am hoping to be able to run from the boxes to a splitter and then from the splitter to my router with a single cable.
Is something like this possible, or will I have to run a separate cable from each box to the router?
Sorry if this sounds obtuse.
I have the Center Ice package from Cox Cable in Las Vegas.
My guide shows the channels, but no information with them.
I shows the program times and I can tune into the program, but can't get any info so I can't tell what is playing, if anything, unless I tune to the channel.
I haven't called Cox or TIVO because I already know that TIVO will blame Cox and Cox will blame TIVO, so I am trying this avenue first.
Does anyone else have this problem?
I have three tivo premeire xls. One which I cannot run a network cable to. Will I be able to use the wireless adapter on the one and still be able to stream and transfer from the other two that are hardwired?
Anyone see the last episode of AOTS? Neat thing at the end with Leo Laporte and Patrick Norton.
I recently obtained a Series 3 (OLED) TiVo and it came with a glo remote. I like this glo remote and will probably use it in my bedroom for the Premiere in there. I see how it has the 1-2 switch on it so it can control 2 TiVos.
Since this S3 might just be used for an additional tuner for recording purposes & has the clock on the front, I thought about putting it in the same bedroom that has the Premiere.
Will this glo remote with the 1-2 switch be able to control the S3 and S4 independently? If so, how do you set this up? I ask because I had similar circumstance years ago with an S2 and S3 in the same room, but could never get a 1-2 TiVo remote to control each independently.
TiVo Whole Home Advertisement
I just saw an advertisement from TiVo representing their TiVo Whole Home. I actually find this rather funny; one of my biggest complaints about TiVo is that it isn't whole home or even really whole home friendly. Want to watch on a second TV? Purchase another TiVo!!!!! :)
A six tuner Premier and distributed TiVo Minis that do not permanently co-op a tuner, then we are getting closer to a whole home solution, but today?
I just do not think adding the TiVo stream and the 10 year old TiVo desktop constitutes a Whole Home Solution.
I can't find an earlier thread on this but I recall complaining that I had been able to record the second of the two episodes in this short series but had missed the first. What really got me was that each of the two eps had been shown only twice, and both on the same day. Missed one, missed forever.
Well, I saved the second ep hoping to some day find the first and I now see that Sundance is rerunning this series, again one time only, later this month. Details Here.
Tivo Premier 4 user, just switched from Comcast Cisco DVR.
Is there any way to set up more than 1 Favorite channel list on the
Premier Series 4.
I bought a brand new TiVo XL4 off of eBay for $350. I picked up a cable card from Comcast and called the self-install number. The card validated and connected but none of the authorization information appeared on the conditional access screen.
I called TiVo technical support and told them about the conditional access screen problem. The agent was nice and courteous and was pretty confident it was a Comcast problem (probably a bad card, wrong pairing information or something wrong with the DAC (headend)). So I picked up 3 different cable cards and spent MANY hours with wonderful Comcast tech support agents (1-855-425-9120). 2 different advanced Techs assured me that everything was correct on their end (they even confirmed with my local Atlanta headend)
I called TiVo back and they agreed to do an RMA and send me a different TiVo. I then put the same cable card in the new unit, called Comcast self-pairing hotline and 1 minute later I have all my channels.
I should have bought the TiVo from a retailer. Lesson Learned. MANY hours wasted assuming Comcast was the problem. I really hope TiVo tech support reads this and sees that the cable company is not always the problem.
TL;DR - Wasted time troubleshooting with Comcast when I actually had a defective TiVo XL4.
"Were in a house of God, dammit"
Loved Lily telling everyone to call a Wahambulance.
But Luke stole the show with the Godfather parody at the end.
The first hour of the two-hour Smash season 2 premiere (technically the first of two episodes that air the first night; they are separate episodes) is available on NBC.com:
It may also be available via other sources as well.
It premieres on the air Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 9/8 Central.
I currently have 2 dual tuner Premieres (1 monthly, 1 lifetime) & a lifetime S3 (OLED) unit. I recently got a hold of another working S3 (OLED) TiVo that has no service on it and trying to figure out what I can maybe do with it in terms of upgrade offers.
I'm seeing various offers here telling about transferring an S3 subscription to a new Premiere. Or TiVo offering a lifetime on the S3 for $99 if I get a Premiere 4. Can't remember it exactly, but in the past, I think TiVo offered trade-ins programs for these S3s if they weren't working where I actually send them the unit and they send me some sort of replacement (either S3 or an S4 w/ additional money)
My monthly Premiere unit comes up for renewal here in May & I am possibly interested in replacing it with a Premiere 4 so am intrigued by some of these offers. Any suggestions, recommendations or opinions on what I could do or a direction to possibly go here that involves this newly acquired Series 3?
Ummm.... Did that just happen? Did we have a happy episode of SPN? Did Sam...... SAM WINCHESTER.... initiate FUN?
I don't know how to handle an episode that doesn't make me want to curl up in a ball and cry. Felicia Day was awesome, as usual. They can keep bringing her back.
Dean and Charlie talking strategy with her board was hilarious. He's such a closet nerd. Then how excited he was to get into costume but pretending not to be. Jensen is so great at that type of acting.
I really have nothing else to say but the following .......
Oh and sorry but this here.........
Can Sam just keep his hair like that for a bit? I'm really weirdly loving it.
I wish I could copy a channel list from one unit to another. It is such a hassle to manually set each unit up with the channel list. It would be great to be able to do it on line!
Hmmmm...so I don't know if I should be worried, but both of my cablecards started a firmware upgrade about 30 minutes ago and I'm not sure if they're stuck. It downloaded the new firmware and started doing its thing, but now I'm at a cable card screen that says, "Failed to load 'CableCARD///apps/OobFdc.html' ".
After about 5 minutes or so, it goes back to live TV for a few seconds before another TiVo message pops up saying the cablecard is upgrading it's firmware. It doesn't download data again, only shows the same error message.
Any other TWC users in NYC experiencing this?
Hello, I've been fighting this problem now for a very, very long time now and have had every tech that Time Warner can offer over my house multiple times with zero resolution to the problem. At this point they won't even come over my house without charging me for a support call.
Usually the issue goes away after a month or two but i just can't take this anymore.
My problem is this:
I have three Tivo Premiere XL boxes. All of them are using Cable Card M. Here is how my problem manifests itself:
The cable signal begins to pixelate and then overall the Tivo stops being responsive to all commands (or the commands get very delayed). The video will then become stuttery - indicating drop outs - but the audio will be fine. Then the box will invariably reboot and when it comes back to life the signal will be fine with no issues for between five minutes to an hour before it comes back again, forcing the TiVo to reboot once again.
This happens on ALL THREE TIVOS. They are each in different rooms with different lines run to them. I have had Time Warner here who claims that the signal level is perfect. They went to the pole and even replaced the line from the pole to my house.
Last time this occurred (today) I recorded the issue on my cell phone where I was able to get into the DVR diagnostics screen before my remote commands stopped being recognized. SNR was around 37db and signal strength was about 72 during the stuttering but it normally hovers around 92. Can anyone give me any insight?
I've run all the kickstarts and the smart tests and everything seems to be fine. Last time I had a Time Warner supervisor tech here he claimed I had three bad tivos, which i think is ridiculous since the three tivos are perfect but all seem to break at the same time, then the problem goes away on all three of them at the same time too.
I'm at my wits end. I want to keep my Tivos and hate time warner but i'm afraid i might have to get rid of all three of these (since AT&T - the only other cable provider in my area isn't TiVo compatible).
And Thank you!!!
I have a Tivo Premiere TCD746320 and the hard drive is completely dead. I've been doing some research as to how to repair it but everything I've found so far is basically copying an existing drive and InstantCake doesn't have software for my model. I have a bunch of hard drives that I could put in it if I could find an image or software for it and really don't want to pay $100-200 for a replacement drive just because it has the software knowing that the hard drives I have would work.
Thanks in advance for any help here and my apologies if this issue has been addressed somewhere else in the forum and I've missed it.
