The Cleveland Show - 5/12

Tue, 05/07/2013 - 21:00
The new episode of The Cleveland Show that was supposed to air on 5/5 but got pre-empted by the end of the rain-delayed NASCAR race will air on 5/12 at 7 PM (Eastern/Pacific). If you have an SP, you might want to make sure that the episode is set to record, as the guide probably thinks that this episode aired last week.

Note that the new episode already scheduled for 7:30 will air as well.

Voice activated searching or qwerty questions...

Tue, 05/07/2013 - 20:29
5 year TivoHD guy, just purchased the XL4 with lifetime comes in Friday (got a pretty good deal too!) and bought the last Slider remote around (Fry's, $59.99 they still have some in other states like Texas and Georgia :) BUT I'll tell you what I really want and you tell me if it's possible please :)

OK, I am also a long time Logitech Harmony guy, old school peanut style Harmony 680 & 620. One button turns everything on/off, does so much more too, completely 'smart' remote but I really like the look of the Slider and love that qwerty but I think I want to keep my harmony and explore other options for text input.

So it it possible to do voice searching through the tablet apps (my current android app) for TivoHD is pretty limited. Just acts like a remote. What i want is the ability to use the tablet or phone app to do text input onscreen? Somehow use voice searches or qwerty to the tivo premiere xl4? or is the tab app self contained in the app. It searches on the tab then if you find it, you send it to the tivo (much like online now)

I love the slider but giving up the extra Harmony functionality just for hte occasion text input seem silly.

Your thoughts are appreciated,

Need help with delete shows

Tue, 05/07/2013 - 19:34
My dad accidentally delete a bunch of shows all at the same time. He did it one by one if that makes a difference. I was able to recover some of them but when I tried to recover more I just get a blue circle and nothing happens. Same thing happens If I remote connect to TiVo and go to recently delete folder. What does this mean and can I still recover the many shows that is sitting in the recently deleted folder? Thanks

Cable Card needed for playback?

Tue, 05/07/2013 - 19:00
I have a bunch of shows recorded on my Premiere that were recorded from premium cable channels from my current cable company. I'm about to move to a place that is served by a different cable company. Will I still be able to watch my existing shows when I no longer have a card from my old company?

Settings & Messages background is live TV

Tue, 05/07/2013 - 18:22
Situation: Two (2) TiVo Premieres in one household. One has a nice blue, high contrast background when using the "Settings & Messages" menu, while the other shows live TV. Take a look at the attachment - It's a real challenge to use the Settings & Messages menu with live TV in the background.

Of the two Premieres, the solid blue background one is easier to use. Any thoughts how to make the live TV background one behave like the solid blue background one?

Revolution S01E16 - "The Love Boat"

Watch out for level 7 in the Tower. Some bad mojo going on there. Did Grace know that sending her jailer down would give her her freedom?

Do you think it's nano-bots?

Premier & Elite Units Losing Cable Signal

Tue, 05/07/2013 - 14:07
I have two Tivo units in service an elite 2TB and a Premier Standard which was upgraded to a 1 TB drive. On a reoccurring but infrequent basis (perhaps once a month roughly ) one or the other will seemingly stop receiving its cable feed, no error msg occurs but when you attempt to watch live TV on any channel the guide info is displayed but no audio or video signal, as a result scheduled recordings do not take place. A simple reboot of the tivo returns everything to normal. My suspicion is that this is a Cable Card Issue, wondering if others have experience this problem and if there is a fix for it..

My Cable Provider is TimeWarner..

Wireless HDMI, anyone tried it?

Tue, 05/07/2013 - 10:09
For a porch (w/in about 30ft of my XL4), I'm looking to use this Actiontec wireless HDMI device. This should enable my porch TV to watch whatever is on the XL4.

Anyone tried this?

Want Live Tv in 5 rooms - What's best way?

Tue, 05/07/2013 - 08:58
I will be moving into a house and want Live Tv and ability to watch recordings off my Elite in at least four other rooms. The rooms have coax. I have Comcast Cable.

Looked at stream - Don't like because of ios only, video quality, and no hdmi out.

Looked at mini - Don't like because it ties up Elite tuner and needs subscription.

Can I do this with additional cable card Tivo's but no added subscriptions? What can a cable card Tivo do (or not do) without a subscription? Which cable card Tivo model(s) can I use?

The Mentalist - 05/05/2013 - Red John's Rules

Tue, 05/07/2013 - 07:33
So we now have a list of seven suspects:

Bret Stiles, Gale Bertram, Robert Kirkland , Sheriff Thomas McAllister , Brett Partridge, Ray Haffner, and Reede Smith.

So how did Red John know who was on the list? I am guessing he, or an associate, broke into Jane's apartment and saw it.

I don't know how RJ knew about the girl from Jane's past though.

Loved how the revelation of the handshake (mentioned in previous episodes and confirmed in this one) is the one thing that could reveal RJ.

Bruno Heller talks about whether or not the list is accurate, and the upcoming season. He also discusses whether or not Jane could be Red John. Spoilers beware:

Upgrade TiVo Hughes DVR40 to 1T (power adapter issue)

Mon, 05/06/2013 - 22:35
I fell for the 1T upgrade from Weaknees. I am a novice at computer hardware and I have a question. They surprised me by sending a SATA to IDE Adapter which threw a slight curve in my direction as I prepare to upgrade. One of the capacitors (see below) was bent against the the other one and is slightly loose. Should I take a chance and attach the adapter or get a replacement from WK? WK emailed me said it was no problem...

They also sent a new IDE cable at first saying I could still use my orig IDE cable or the one they sent; but they say "If your kit also came with a new IDE/drive cable, then be sure to replace the TiVo's cable with the included in your kit. So guess I should use it, right? I'm confused, thought this would easier but now they are confusing me with the adapter and the new IDE cable. Any help/ideas? I've contacted them but they have limited hours and it's hard to get a response let alone a person's name.

EAS Broadcasts w/ Mini

What (if anything) does the Mini do when the Host receives an EAS Test Message broadcast?
  • During Playback
  • During Live TV

Tivo Series3 THD (TCD652160) LIFETIME 2TB (318HD Hours)

Mon, 05/06/2013 - 18:53
This is a LIFETIME Series 3 (TCD652160) with a just upgraded (April 2, 2013) 2 TB drive. It allows for 318 HD hours! It also looks like the day we bought it from TIVO. Perfect condition, with the Box and all original books and accessories! I even tested and verified that the Power Supply output and Caps were perfect before installing the 2TB drive. I do not see how you can find a cleaner Unit anywhere!

Reason for selling after just doing the upgrade, is that TIVO made me an offer on a Premiere that we could not resist! Notice that the TIVO is powered on (see light in picture) and connected, but the cable card is now in the Premiere.

Price is $355 plus shipping (about $22 with Insurance), and I use PayPal.

No more free version of TiVo Desktop

Mon, 05/06/2013 - 18:39
Just got an email from TiVo stating:

Quote: Download the FREE TiVo Desktop software today
As of June 5th, 2013 the free version of TiVo Desktop for PC will no longer be available for download. TiVo Desktop for PC lets you enjoy your music and photos on your TV. You can also transfer shows from your TiVo DVR to your PC.* Take advantage of this last chance to download the software for FREE! You think they will have a replacement that costs money? Or are they just going to rely on third party software?

Two MoCA networks

Mon, 05/06/2013 - 17:43
Is it possible to have the Premiere XL4 on one MoCA network with Minis, and have a totally separate one with a pair of adapters.

I am moving in with roommates soon, and I was thinking of putting my A/V stuff upstairs. That would be simple. The router, HTPC, main gigabit network, and HTPC would all be in one location, with MoCA and N900 going out through the house.

However, I am considering putting the A/V setup downstairs, but the router would stay upstairs. Since the XL4 and the HTPC would be downstairs, I would need a MoCA backbone to connect the router with 50mbps Comcast internet to the gigabit switch with the XL4 and HTPC downstairs. I could connect the other stuff through the XL4, but I don't want the XL4 bridging my main network, as the HTPC could end up sort of turning into a multi-TB fileserver, with some massive file copy operations. I was thinking of making a MoCA backbone, and then connecting the XL4 to Ethernet, and having the XL4 and Minis on their own MoCA network.

What I would need to do for that is to set them on different MoCA channels. With a 650mhz Comcast plant, it is possible per the MoCA spec, but I was wondering if it actually possible to the configure the equipment this way?

I could use a wireless bridge or try to figure out how to run wired Ethernet, but it would be a lot easier just to set up a MoCA bridge. I may eventually end up going the wired Ethernet route, but I'm not sure at this point if that's possible. Also, if I could get two networks running, I could put my laptop on a third MoCA adapter, right onto the backbone, so that I'd have faster access to the HTPC and 50mbps internet.
