I purchased a WD20EURS 2TB drive to put in my new (well, refurbed) Premiere. The upgrade went fine, but when I fired things back up, there is a very noticeable "hum" coming from the drive. I know it's the drive because I noticed a similar "hum" from the original 500GB hard drive, but it was much quieter and tolerable.
My window to do an exchange with Amazon is closing in a couple days. Before I request an exchange, I thought I'd ask whether others have noticed this issue? Is there any Acoustic Management software I can try to see if it would make a difference?
Thanks for the help.
No thread yet? That's not a good sign.
I agree with everyone in last week's thread that said this is turning into "24." It will get old. The other young FBI agent sure took a long time to go around the back, huh?
So after killing Maggie, it looks like they only have 3 followers left. Can they make a series about trying to find the little kid?
I wanted to make a single episode thread because the full season thread seems to be for threadcrappers who don't even watch the show.
I liked this self-contained episode. The character of Hannah seems like a real person. She is not completely likeable (nor are real people).
I agree with what Sepinwall says about this episode being like an author writing a touching short story that focuses on the heroine and one of her personality traits. It did feel very literary. Or cinematic - it really did look like a Nancy Meyers movie. Actually, it felt like a play to me.
Joshua is the anti-Adam and I wonder how Adam would have reacted to Hannah when she opened up and spilled all her inner thoughts and feelings. It turned Joshua off completely and he was immediately done; but I think Adam would have eaten it up.
I love how Lena is so willing to be naked and show the world her less than perfect body. I love that she wears unflattering clothes like real women do.
One other thing Sepinwall points out : that final shot of Hannah walking away, which felt very '70s New York cinema.

I have a Philips Series 1 HDR 112 upgraded with network card and a 160GB drive. The last time I had to open the box was 5 years ago when I put in the 160GB hard drive. I previously had upgraded to a 40GB hard drive back in 2001.
I would get a new unit and move on with my life except for one thing. I have a lifetime subscription.
The picture and audio of the Live TV buffer have been freezing up very recently. I reboot Tivo and it locks up within an hour. That's a sure sign to me that the hard drive is failing.
After I first noticed it, I tried to use TyTool to get all my shows off of it, but I couldn't connect. So I tried to connect to TivoWebPlus. Also failed.
I telnetted into the machine and found that /var/hack was missing. I presume Tivo had rebooted itself and did some kind of emergency software repair or something.
I pulled the hard drive and plugged it into my PC, just as I vaguely remembered how to do from years and years ago. I followed the Steve Jenkins Newbie guide (xxxx://tivo.stevejenkins.com/network_cd.html), and I pulled out my old CD with the Linux install and MFS Tools and booted.
Following his instructions (because honestly I can't remember this stuff from memory from 5 years ago), I tried to mount partitions 4, 7 and 9.
mkdir /mnt4 [ENTER]
mkdir /mnt7 [ENTER]
mkdir /mnt9 [ENTER]
That went fine. The directories were created. Then I did:
mount /dev/hdc4 /mnt4 [ENTER]
mount /dev/hdc7 /mnt7 [ENTER]
mount /dev/hdc9 /mnt9 [ENTER]
After every mount command, when I hit enter, this was the result:
mount: you must specify the filesystem type
mount: you must specify the filesystem type
mount: you must specify the filesystem type
Following along in the guide, Steve mentions this as a possible error, but says that it will only happen with either partition 4 or partition 7, but not all three. attempting the next step, typing the df command yields this result:
Filesystem 1k-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/def/ram0 15863 9795 6068 62% /
No mention of my CDROM drive and no mention of any of the mounting points I was trying to create.
I did the shift-pgup thing and found some relevant data on my hard drive, if that helps in diagnosing what I'm doing wrong.

Any help? I'd like to put TivoFTP back in place on my old hard drive so I can retrieve several weeks worth of TV shows off the drive using TyTool before I lay the old drive to rest and try to put my 5-year old Backup Image (which I have on a CD) onto the new drive (which should be arriving by Thursday or Friday).
I installed a cachecard and 400Gb drive from TivoHeaven about 5 years ago and have been downloading from my Tivo happily since then. Yesterday TyTools (#10r4) would give a now showing list but when I picked something to get I was getting a socket error.
In an ill-advised late night fit of activity I changed some settings via nic_tivo_config and now I cannot even telnet to the Tivo anymore. So could someone point me in the right direction of instructions to connect and reset whatever I have mucked up.
If you have a season pass for this show, check the todo list. You may need to do some pruning. In my area there is a boatlod of episodes going to be recorded, on a timeline that makes it impossible for them to all be new episodes. Somebody not using the rerun label someplace, I guess.
How are you all?i am newbie here.i like this forum and want to say welcome to all who's join newly to this board.I hope so you enjoy your stay here. All the best...
If the conditional access screen on the TiVo says...
Con:No and Val:?
Does that mean something is wrong with the card? If so is there anything that can be done to fix it from our end? Or does it have to be exchanged?
I got my Sister a used HD. The first CableCARD we tried would not work. Just got stuck on a blue screen with spinning icon saying aquiring channels. I called the cabke company a couple of times, then hit it, hit the TA double checked all the pairing and SN values but it wouldn't work. Finally they said I needed to exchange it for another one. My Sister finally gets a chance to exchange the and I try installing it tonight but it has the exact same problem.
Could this be something on our end? Bad TiVo? Bad TA? Or does that always mean the card is not validated correctly? What are the chances of getting two bad cards in a row?
The weird part is I live right across the street and I have 3 Premiere units with the same exact cards and same provider and every one of them installed without a hitch. My Sister didn't really ask for this "upgrade" in the first place. I did it because I was trying to be nice, but I think she's getting fed up with the whole thing.
Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Saw a new entry in My Shows tonight. It was just below AOL On. It is called Web Video Launchpad. When you select it you go to an app called Launchpad for Tivo. Some of the entries are Break, Crunchyroll, TMZ, Showtime Featurettes, etc.
I added the spoiler so that comments could be made to help explain why you might like or not like the show. Havent seen any comments about this show yet. Every one in the media was saying it couldnt keep up the pace of the first one. So far I think it has.
Obviously Tivo has a problem with the Tivo 4 and recording suggestions. I've heard fixes that require turning off the SDV box for a few hours to fix it.
We shouldn't have to do a damn thing to make this basic function work.
Hi, I was wondering why I can't telnet into my tive premiere and see the status and run commands. I was trying to setup SIRIPROXY with a Tivo Plugin but the problem I think I am having is that the Tivo simply drops the telnet connection and it does not have a prompt or channel status. Any ideas ? yes I do have network remote control enabled.
EDIT: Shame on me, the reason was tivoremote on my other pc running in the background. I guess it was holding on to the telnet connection.
I was on hold yesterday as I wanted to ask Sales if I could get any deal on TWO Premiere 4 TIVO's with Lifetime. While on hold the constant promo's said to ask sales for an upgrade offer for current customers. When I talked to sales they wanted the usual $250 for each TIVO and $100 off each Lifetime sub. I said that that was no special offer and she agreed. I asked about the offer that was on when I was on hold and she said she knew nothing about it!
I did not take advantage of the $200 off offer that I was sent a while ago as it was just $100 off considering that I get $100 off Lifetime anyway. I had assumed that Mothers/Fathers day would be better. I hope I did not mess up!
Does anyone know the setup type for a "Cisco DTA", model 170HD ? No options listed for Cisco when setting up cable box type.
I recently upgraded to a 4 tuner TiVo Premiere XL4. I called Comcast and they told my my current 3 year old Multistream card is only good for 2 tuners. They scheduled a technician to come by. The technician told me that 4 stream Mcards are not available in my area (I live on the Eastern Shore of MD). He gave me his supervisor's telephone and told me to calll every few months or so to see about availability.
Anybody had this problem? If I complain hard enough shouldn't they be able to get one sent in from another area?
Thanks in advance for any input.
I'm switching from Dtv to Cable and was curious as to how long I have before my HR10-250 and my Dtv DVR (Hr22 I think?) will allow me to finish watching the programming I've already recorded. Will they allow this indefenitly? Should I leave the sat connections in place or do I need to disconnect them before terminating my service?
I just don't want to terminate my service and then loose the ability to watch the stuff I've recorded. It might take a few weeks to get to it all.
About a year ago, I got the $99 lifetime offer for a Series 2 DT Tivo. I thnk it was shortly after I got a Premiere 2-tuner unit. I have since sold it (for much more too), but recently got a hold of a Series 3 (OLED) and I have read here of people getting the $99 lifetime offer for these units too.
From what I remember reading, I think you had to buy one of the newer Tivos in order to be offered the $99 lifetime on an older series 3 too, correct? I'm looking to possibly get a Premiere 4 in May (when my current Premiere subscription is up). Is it likely they could offer me the $99 option for this older Series 3 box as well? I haven't started service at all on this Series 3 under my account. Do I need to first establish a few months of service before they would offer it. Or how else does it work?
TNT, 10pm ET plus many repeats.
For the first time in a long time the laugh track got to me in this one. The scene where they were bringing in all the items, like the canoe, just wasn't funny but the laugh track was overbearing.
For me, the only entertaining part was learning Mike Tyson was the old lady, which explained why they were in a strip club. But that was 10 seconds.
I always wonder if the stars themselves know when things are bad, but they just go through the motions because it is a paycheck.
