Happy Premiere Famiy

Tue, 12/18/2012 - 08:39
I just recently purchased a Premiere for my daughter as a college graduation gift. This brings all TiVos in our household into the Premiere family. She previously had a S2DT. It's amazing! Finally we have the TiVo setup we've wanted since the days we bought our first TiVo back in 2000.

Everything works seamlessly, we can all schedule using our iPads/iPhones. Watching from one box to another is painless. It's like we have one huge TiVo serving all TVs in our home... and 10 tuners to boot.

Our Premieres work great. Currently no issues (hope I'm not jinxing things). The HD menu improvements with the last update have increased usability of the To-Do list, Season Pass mgr. etc... and actually gotten me back to using those screens willingly.

I also use Kmttg and PyTiVo to archive shows we want to keep on our server. I can control almost all aspects of our TiVos from these programs, making organizational chores a breeze.

TiVo seems to be actively upgrading service and adding features (AOL, Spotify) and actually seems interested in saving their brand. (I had my worries over the past few years)

If they could just add an easy way to schedule on "any" available tuner and push conflicts to open tuners on other boxes I would truly be in heaven.

Thanks TiVo!

Spotify Comes to TiVo Premiere

TiVo Brings Spotify to TiVo Premiere Boxes

SAN JOSE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 12/18/12 -- TiVo Inc. (NASDAQ:
TIVO), the creator of and a leader in advanced television services
including digital video recorders (DVRs), today announced the
availability of leading music streaming service Spotify for its TiVo
Premiere boxes in the US. The introduction of Spotify to the host of
applications offered through TiVo is the latest example of the
company's efforts to deliver a complete, customizable entertainment
experience, from television to movies to music, in one box.

"TiVo is continuing to revolutionize the way people consume
entertainment content, and not just television programming," said
Tara Maitra, SVP and general manager of content & media sales at TiVo
Inc. "By providing access to Spotify on TiVo, customers are able to
experience their music and playlists through the best sound system in
their house, as opposed to just their phone or PC, and through the
convenience of one remote."

On TiVo, consumers can sign-in with an existing Spotify Premium
account ($9.99/month) to seamlessly and immediately enjoy their
current playlists through their television. Once the Spotify app is
launched on TiVo, users simply enter their username and password to
begin enjoying music. It will allow TiVo owners to stream music
through their home theater system, as well as browse playlists,
albums and artists, and search for related artists using the TiVo
remote control.

"Integrating Spotify with the TiVo interface brings a more seamless
user experience to Spotify fans, and introduces TiVo fans to a new
way to listen to millions of songs for free," said Pascal de Mul,
Global Head of Hardware partnerships, Spotify. "Through this, users
will be able to stream their playlists through their TiVo and home
theater sound system and share their music with friends."

Spotify joins TiVo's current musical lineup of Pandora, Rhapsody,
Live365, Music Choice and songs connected from a PC or Mac music
library*. The Spotify app is expected to begin rolling out to
customers in the next 24 hours and TiVo customers will find it in the
Music & Photos menu.

To learn more about Spotify on TiVo or to sign up for a free, 30-day
trial of Spotify Premium, visit www.spotify.com/tivo.

* To stream songs connected from a PC or Mac, you will need TiVo
Desktop software for PC or TiVo Desktop software for Mac. TiVo
Desktop software is not required to use Spotify, Pandora, Rhapsody,
Live365 or Music Choice.

Increase in spam!

Tue, 12/18/2012 - 07:01
Seems there has been a huge increase in the amount of spam on the forums here lately. I used to see it once a month or so (I'm sure it was more often) - but now I'm seeing it multiple times a day.

I had a forum once that had a lot of spam and turned on a feature that you had to answer a question when you registered - not sure if this board has that or not - but maybe you can look into something else to combat spam.

S2: Stuck Welcome Powering up

Mon, 12/17/2012 - 21:40
Picked this Series 2 TDC240040 that gets stuck on Welcome. Powering up... the hard drive was replaced by the previous owner at some point, I replaced the ribbon cable and I can hear the drive spin up at power up.

I also tried putting my old maxtor drive from my TDC24004A however that exhibited the same result. I took another drive I had and used winmfs to restore a backup (240080) but I'm guessing it can't use that backup as it didn't work either.

I'm trying to get this machine working without laying out more money than I could have purchased a working unit for.

Perhaps someone might have the proper image for this unit that I could try?

How I Met Your Mother "The Final Page" 12/17/12

That was stunning. And sweet. And wonderful.

Boost Wireless Adaptor

Mon, 12/17/2012 - 17:41
Hi All..i recently cancelled my internet supply to my home and had TiVo hard wired into the router. I now connect all my devices through a boost web wifi 3G. All my phones, lap tops and ipads connect but TiVo will not connect. It can see it and shows a strong signal (83%). I have a TiVo wireless adaptor that works fine. Can anyone advise me if I am doing something wrong?

Includes 6GB data# with up to 186 days expiry, for use within Australia

With a Boosted Wifi device, you can create a wireless hotspot anywhere you go, connecting up to 8 devices simultaneously. It’s HSPA+ capable, making it our fastest and highest spec'd broadband product.

TiVo Premiere Rebooting noise

Mon, 12/17/2012 - 17:01
Happy Holiday's all.

When my TiVo reboots (Firmware, etc) it gets extremely loud. The fan sounds like it is racing so fast. This usually lasts a few minutes then it quiets down. I have no problems with the unit at all.

One rep says this is normal, and another said it is not normal. I have the extended warranty on this and they wanted to do an exchange for a refurbished unit which would then knock my warranty down to just a 90 days on the refurbished.

Any hi-rez pics inside the XL4?

Mon, 12/17/2012 - 12:18
Someone posted really great pictures for the Premiere XL that identify all the chips, and I was wondering if anyone had pulled the cover off an XL4 and done the same yet?

Reading PA 12/24/12 11:35 PM CBS

Mon, 12/17/2012 - 12:17
set your tivos and join in celebrating the hope!

Like so many of America’s once bustling industrial centers, Reading, PA, has been on a downward spiral for decades. The city has lost factories, jobs and population. The latest economic recession amplified its burdens. Something that Reading has never lost, however, is hope—hope and an abiding belief in the power of community. ONE CHRISTMAS STORY: PEOPLE RICH IN SPIRIT, a new production from Odyssey Networks, takes viewers to the heart of this small American city for a celebration that reflects the true meaning of the holiday season—hope and caring. CBS will air the one-hour program, without commercials, starting at 11:35 PM on Christmas Eve.

Premier Elite and Comcast

Mon, 12/17/2012 - 11:53
Sorry - trying to find the right area to post.

Last two months Comcast is dropping HD channels at random. Couple days later, the channels reappear. Comcast claims we cant get HD on our TIVO Premier Elite with M-card. - yet we have been getting it all year. I'm wondering if Comcast in North GA. is now trying to use SDV - and we dont have a tuning adaptor or box of any kind. The dropped channels are still available in SD. Sometimes the DVR diag. screen shows signal levels at 93 - and other values also OK - yet screen is blank. Other times, DVR diag. show blank values and Current Tuning State = Not Tuned: Wrong Card State.

No one at Comcast seems to know anything at all. Again, could it be Comcast is now trying to use SDV in North Georgia. Anyone know?

The Mob Doctor burning off new episodes on Saturdays

Mon, 12/17/2012 - 11:52
With three episodes of The Mob Doctor left, and only four Mondays left in which to air them - two of which are Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve - Fox has decided to burn off episodes 11 and 12 on Saturday nights (12/29 and 1/5) at 9 PM, in place of "Fox's repeat of the week" (which I think is currently Masterchef), and the finale on Monday 1/7. (Fox is airing marathons of its four Tuesday comedies during Christmas week, and a repeat will air on 12/31.)

A 2-hour Bones airs on 1/14, and The Following premieres in the Monday 9:00 time slot on 1/21.

S3 - noisy hard drive

Mon, 12/17/2012 - 11:51
I have a lifetime S3 that has an upgraded 1TB drive that I bought about 6 months ago, formatted from an eBay seller.

I just moved the unit from our home gym to the master bedroom and it gets REALLY noisy within a few hours of every re-boot. Not grinding, more like clunking - so I expect it's head seek noise. It's far too noisy to sleep in the same room with it.

The seller I bought the drive from doesn't respond to emails and doesn't seem to sell drives any more. Grrrr.

Anyway, do I have any alternatives other than to replace this drive AGAIN? This would be the third drive replacement on this unit (first was a $149 "out of warranty repair" directly with TiVo) - lifetime is starting to get pretty expensive.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Comcast - SDV - Premier Elite

Used TiVo with active subscription

Mon, 12/17/2012 - 10:11
OK, so here's a little morality play for you. A friend of mine recently picked up a used Humax TiVo / DVD combo unit to put in his kids' room. He took it home, did a Clear and Delete All, ran Guided Setup, and it's working perfectly.

Too perfectly, in fact - it seems that it still has an active subscription! He initially assumed that the service would expire within a month, but it's continued for several months now.

He bought the unit from his local Goodwill store, so there is no way for him to directly contact the previous owner, nor does there appear to be any way to tell if it's on a 12-month prepay or if the PO is unwittingly continuing to pay on a monthly basis.

I've suggested to him that he should call TiVo and explain the situation to them, but he sees this as a fortuitous freebie and is loathe to lose it.

What do y'all think he should do? What would you do if you were in his situation, or mine for that matter?

TiVo HD with 1TB and Lifetime Service (SF Bay Area)

Mon, 12/17/2012 - 09:32
Hope it's OK to post a craigslist listing (for those of you in the SF Bay Area who may be interested). I'm planning to move it onto eBay (or Amazon) later this week.

save recorded programs ??

Mon, 12/17/2012 - 08:19
I have in the past restored a non booting drive. Apparently the drive was not completely bad, but good enough to re-rwite the operating system & boot. I am now in the same situation but wanting to save the data, any way to re-write the o/s & save the data?

Any way to put things in a new folder in "my shows"?

Mon, 12/17/2012 - 08:08
not sure the right place to ask this and sorry if it is a dumb question but is there a way you could create a new folder and place recordings in that folder to make browsing through your shows list easier?

So Carrie thinks she can just come back after helping him flee?

Dexter S07E12 "Surprise, Motherfckr!" 2012-Dec-16

Sun, 12/16/2012 - 23:36
Well, at first I thought I was wrong about Deb dosing herself with the Xanax, since Hannah sort of admitted it to Dexter. But then when Deb told Hannah, "confess what you've done" and Hannah responded, "I will if you will" and then "all that Xanax, my how you must have trouble sleeping at night". That sounds like Hannah saying she suspects that Deb did it to herself. But Hannah could just have meant that Deb had a big bottle of Xanax that came in handy when Hannah dosed her. But the part about Deb needing to confess what she has done fits better with Deb dosing herself rather than with Deb knowing Dexter is a killer and not turning him in. I guess I now have no idea who did it.

The part about the warrants to "track the GPS" on Dexter and Deb's phone was hard to believe. I have never heard that the cell phone companies keep records of everywhere that the cell phones have been. Sure, they can probably locate a powered-on cell phone NOW if they needed to, but to keep complete records of everywhere someone has been? I don't think so. I could accept that it is routine for police to wear something that allows their position to be tracked (and have something in their car), but that does not apply here since (1) no warrant would be needed and (2) Dexter would definitely not have anything like that (not sure about Deb).

That was a highly unsatisfying way to end the season. Dexter's plan for LaGuerta was okay (although he should have stabbed Estrada with something like an icepick), except that she had to be shot with Estrada's gun. Now that LaGuerta was shot with Deb's gun, that plan is...well...shot to hell. It would hardly be credible for Deb to claim that she found LaGuerta just after she shot Estrada and then when LaGuerta began to point her gun at Deb, then Deb shot LaGuerta. Since that story cannot work, the only thing I can think of is that both bodies need to disappear in Dexter's usual manner. Except that takes time, and we saw Dexter and Deb returning to the party at a not unreasonable hour. And when LaGuerta disappears, with her car known to have been at the port, and Deb having just called in for that information, and the conflict between LaGuerta and Dexter....LaGuerta's disappearance bodes ill for the Morgans.

On second thought, maybe Deb could claim exactly what I just wrote. The story could be that LaGuerta was obsessed and wanted to frame Dexter for killing Estrada, so she shot Estrada just as Deb came in, and Deb shot LaGuerta in self-defense.

Survivor Finale & Reunion show 12/16/12 SPOILERS

Sun, 12/16/2012 - 23:33
Can't believe I'm the first to post about the show? Does anyone care anymore? :p

I thought it was a decent finale. Not too exciting, but entertaining. I would have been content with any of the final 4 winning, but was rooting for Malcolm.

Looking forward to next season already.
