The Syfy channel has ordered 13 episodes of "Helix," a series from Ronald D. Moore ("Battlestar Galactica") that will make its debut later this year.
I wonder if he has a plan?
My Series3, which is now... going on 6 and a half years old, seems to be having a problem in its growing age. However, this is a weird one.
I replaced its hard drive about 16 months ago, when the original 250 GB hard disk it shipped with up and died. I purchased and installed a WD Caviar Black 1TB SATA drive, and used an InstantCake CD to install a fresh software load on it, because I'd never backed up that original drive - oops.
Since that time, it had been fine. However, a couple days ago, it developed a new quirk. When watching two different digital cable channels with the two CableCARD S-Cards I still had in it, I would get massive breakup on both, whether they were being recorded or not (obviously either way, both streams get spooled out to disk). However, if I switched one tuner to an analog cable channel, and the other to a digital (HD or not) cable channel - no breakup. I haven't yet cracked my S3 open again since this happened, but I never enabled any of the AAM stuff on the new drive, so I can hear it running. It's not annoyingly noisy, but it's the familiar drone of a hard drive. This has not changed. (I'm familiar with the noise of a failing drive.) I could also watch an already-recorded show - no breakup.
I had bought a refurbed Premiere XL last fall, so I decided to take the plunge and move the XL into primary service, swapped out my two S-Cards for one M-Card, and now the XL is up and running happily. But, for the moment, I still have active service on my S3. I connected a Mohu Leaf antenna to it, and tuned two different digital OTA channels. Guess what? No breakup.
Anyway, my main question is this: Could this be caused by either a failing capacitor related to the CableCARD controller chip, or the chip itself? Or could my cableco have pushed new code out to the aging S-Cards that made them not play nice together on a single host? I don't really need more than one TiVo for myself, so I'd like to sell off my S3, but it's not lifetimed, and I don't want to sell it and claim it's OK if it's not (even though other than the oddness with two digital cable channels, it seems perfectly fine). Has anyone seen this sort of failure mode?
I currently have a premiere XL (dual tuner) a tivo HD a dual tuner series 2 and an old single tuner series 2 (all are lifetime.)
I know that I need a 4-tuner unit to run a mini and will probably buy that combo.
If I do, will the mini only be able to see shows on the 4-tuner (linked) unit or is it able to browse and stream the other units? The premiere xl is the most pressing need, the HD would be a nice second and nobody cares about the series 2 units (especially because they are only SD and the picture looks crappy on larger HDTVs.)
Bernadette is quickly becoming my favorite character.
Bernadette: We can't all be Cinderella.
Amy: Then, how do we decide?
Bernadette: Well, it's simple. This was my idea. I'm driving. I'm Cinderella. You bitches got a problem with that we can stop the car right now.:D
Let's say that I don't allocate any tuners for my Mini, so it can't display live TV. From the Mini, can I schedule a recording of a currently airing program and then immediately start playing back that recording on the Mini? Obviously one of my 4 tuners would have to be available at the time.
I'm wondering if this would be a workaround for not yet having dynamic tuner allocation. I won't watch live TV very often on my Mini, so I'm wondering if I can do as I mentioned above to watch a "live" show just a few minutes behind live TV without having to permanently allocate a tuner to the Mini.
We have 3 S2s (all single tuner) attached via serial ports to our Motorola cable boxes (2 are DCT2244, one is DCT2524). About 2 days ago, all 3 lost the ability to change channels. The cable remote still changes channels successfully. All connections have been checked, and Guided Setup and Settings run and re-run, checked and double checked.
We talked to Comcast, and they are playing dumb (and unhelpful). It sure does feel as if they've pushed some sort of change they won't admit to.
I remember having to use IR connectors back in the bad old days, and I sincerely DO NOT want to go back there. Nor do I want to "solve" this by having to buy new machines, when these have been plugging along just fine for our needs until now (one is lifetime).
Is there something we're forgetting? Any ideas about what else to check? Any experiences with Comcast disabling serial control in these boxes?
Could so,some please explain dynamic tuner allocation and its significance in regards to the mini.
The new Samsung Smart TVs are supposed to be able to play MPG files with AC3 audio. So, in theory an unencrypted Tivo recording should play. Has anyone tried this?
Industry rumors have said that FIOS will eventually switch to IPTV. They're currently phasing out older boxes as they add MPEG4 channels. The newer boxes could also support an IPTV move someday.
If FIOS went IPTV (or did anything else that made TiVos incompatible) and TiVo did not have a solution, would you stick with FIOS or TiVo?
I'm using the Fall 2012 update on my Premiere XL. One change to the new HD To Do list has removed functionality I consider essential.
In the old SD To Do list, when an upcoming recording overlaps another one by a few minutes, they will both record, but there was a clear indication that one or the other will be clipped. In the new HD To Do list, that indication is not shown.
I use these indications to know when to move one of those To Do items to another household TiVo. With those indications now missing in the HD UI, I'm forced to switch back to the SD UI (where they're still shown). Has anyone else encountered this issue, or found an alternate way to see this information?
(Tried working through TiVo forums and customer support, with no success. They insist in treating this as a feature request rather than an existing feature that was lost/broken in the last HD UI update.)
I go to the keep until menu, change the date, hit select and the date does not "stick". Am I missing something?
Just installed tivo desktop for mac. Have allowed connections for tivo desktop. Server is running. Get an error that I can't access the server. Mac OS 10.7.x
Has anyone had luck with the Kingwin IDE to SaTA adapter bridgeboard? My hard drive baked just fine using it with my desktop but stalls in the tivo at the "Powering up, just a few more minutes" screen. I've seen a couple bad reviews here on the boards about the kingwin adapter, but has anyone actually been successful?
I've had my xl4 and premier since 2/15 and have lost three recordings in process. While Tivo CSRs have told me this can happen with software updates, I've learned here that these won't occur during an active recording. They also told me that I should not have the tivo's plugged into a surge protector and that I should protect my boxes with an extended warranty...really? Some helpful fellow tc members pointed out that the boxes should be protected with UPS units. I have done this and still have incomplete, 15 of 60 minutes, recordings. Furthermore, when a recording is interrupted, it doesn't restart when the box comes back online...even comcast dvrs do this!
Any ideas? If my wife misses Justified again, I'm dead meat!
boy they really shy away from medical stuff. that woman thought she had gold with all her sales, nope
the peanut thing just seem blah to me. i wouldnt invest
they were scared to death of the tatoo thing too. i guess the fear of lawsuits does stop some products from getting off the ground
the shoe thing to me seemed like a side hobby and not really doing to do so well. i do think the market is very hard to get into and be successful but in a year when they do a follow up we will see the real story
heck on dateline sunday some lottery winner was told how much it costs to even enter the shoe industry and she barely had enough money for a single shoe lol
I remember years ago, there was some controversy with the episode "The Puerto Rican Day Parade" and it was pulled out so syndication. I'm a pretty regular watch of the show in syndication and last night, for the first time I can remember since the original run, they showed that episode. I believe it was the penultimate episode of the series (if you don't included the clip show that aired prior to the finale). It was weird in that I remembered very little about the episode, and, in hindsight it just wasn't all that funny. It was almost as if I was watching it as a new episode.
Does anyone else recall seeing it played in syndication at their location? Does TBS play it? I wonder why it was put back in the rotation?
I have just setup my new P4. I have 3 other Tivos on my network. A HD, S2DT, and a 2-tuner Premiere. Those 3 see each other in the now playing menu and can transfer videos between them. The P4 shows in each of their now playing list and they show in the P4's also. However, when I try to access any of them from the P4 to transfer from them I get an error message that there is a network problem and it cannot display any shows. When I access the P4 from any of the others the message says there are no shows. There is one in reality. It is the Tivo welcome video but the others do not see it. I have tried both wired and wireless. Hard and soft resets, multiple downloads from tivo all to no effect. I checked on My Account and they are all enabled for MRV. Can anyone help?
So I am considering selling my lifetime premiere I bought new about 2 years ago in order to get a premiere xl with lifetime since I just bought a stream to test it out, but if it doesn't work I'll return it and considering buying a mini.
1.) How much is my tivo premiere worth with standard HD and lifetime?
2.) The xl only has digital tuners, will that be an issue? (I use FIOS)
3.) will the mini or stream take up on of the tuners and allow people to continue to use the TiVo on the primary tv?
The Fans team finally wised up! I have to wonder how much of an accident it was that Shamar got sand in his eye.
On the Favs side, I'm finding Cochran's little insights to be amusing. Also, as goofy as he is, I'm entertained by Phillip and from what we can tell, most everyone else is as well. Who'd have thunk it?
More water challenges, still no puzzles!
