Delays & Reboots

Sun, 09/30/2012 - 11:28
We have a Tivo HD and a "My DVD Expander" Western Digital external drive model WD5000F032.

Recently it sometimes doesn't respond for several minutes to various commands. After a delay of several minutes, sometimes it does the command, but sometimes reboots instead.

Any idea what the problem might be, or how we can troubleshoot it?

Can I play a .tivo file on my Android phone?

Sun, 09/30/2012 - 09:00
I transferred a file from Tivo to Desktop (W7). WMP plays it fine, as-is. Then I uploaded it to my Dropbox cloud so my phone (Android) could play it as-is. (wishful thinking). It wasn't.

What do I need to do/get to play it on phone? I looked at some Tivo apps but they look more like a MyTivo.com app than what I am looking for.

Should/Must I convert it to some other format on Windows first? What one and how? If there is no Tivo app to play it natively, I would want a format that is native on Android and does not need a special app to play.

I would also like to trim it too (on the PC), but not mandatory. I only need about 10% of a 1/2 hour recording for one scene. The .tivo file is quite large.

Sony Series 1 Stand Alone Dial in Problem

Sun, 09/30/2012 - 08:00
I have not been able to dial in and assumed it was a problem with the internal modem. I bought an external modem from Weaknees and still having a problem. In order to dial in I have tried several prefixes such as ,#034 and ,#019 without success. I have moved to a new area code and have found 11 phone numbers to use but I can't change the old number. What must I do to change the dial in number? I have the screen that should allow me to change the number, but nothing I do removes the old number. Any suggestions?

New member losing my mind over moca

Sun, 09/30/2012 - 07:48
I am trying to set up moca on a TiVo premiere series 4
I simply cannot find the menu items to turn moca on as per the instructions

I go to the choose network hookup screen and my only choices are
Wireless n
Wireless g
Phone line

The docs say I an supposed to have a option to configure moca here but it so not there. Yes in sure it's a series 4 premiere, in fact I have 2 of them, and I can't find the menu on either. I looked around at other menus as well and I can't find a single reference to moca

I even went so far as to repeat the whole guided setup...no dice

Oh, they were previously on Ethernet so they have connected to TiVo in the last 24 hrs and should have all the latest updates

-did TiVo remove this feature?
-am I going crazy?
-is there some trick I am missing?

I see no reference to moca in any TiVo menu

Clarification-- just checked. I guess the boxes are TiVo premiere series 4. But that is i gather maybe different from a TiVo premiere 4?? If so I have major issues with whoever names products for them (seriously TiVo premiere series 4 and TiVo premiere 4 are 2 different products in the market at the same time competing with each other??

But anyway is that my problem? Does the series 4 not include moca but th just plain 4 include. Moca?

TiVo Premiere Question/ New member

Sat, 09/29/2012 - 23:41
I have basic cable, and not really looking to upgrade that. All I want to be able to do is record a few shows and pause and rewind live tv. I really don't want to pay a month service. If I get a TiVo Premiere, will it work if I don't have service?

Strange channel setup - help?

Sat, 09/29/2012 - 22:02
I live in an apartment building where basic cable is provided to us, along with HBO, included in our rent. So I bought a TiVo Premiere. We don't have cable boxes or CableCARDs (or any way to acquire one) - they use equipment provided by the cable company to place HBO on an unused basic-cable channel. The cable company also provides the digital local channels unencrypted, which both my TV and TiVo detect. However, TiVo gives no guide data for the local digital channels (it always says "To be announced"). Is there any way to add this data to the guide? (e.g. telling the box that the local CBS digital channel should have the same guide data as the cable CBS analog channel) I'd like to record my favorite shows in HD when possible, and not have to use the manual record function.

Western Digital MyBook Died

Sat, 09/29/2012 - 20:28
My second WD DVR expander in 3 years just died. Has anyone had any success with other brands? Or I am better off just upgrading the internal drive to something more reliable?

Thanks, and sorry if this has been asked before - I searched but didn't see anything, although I'm sure it's there.

Doctor Who "The Angels Take Manhattan" 9/29/12

Sat, 09/29/2012 - 19:00
I thought that this was the best use of Amy and Rory this season, and a fine farewell.

The Angels were a little wasted in my opinion, used just as a means to an end (Farewell to Amy/Rory) instead of being the real focus of the episode.

The idea of the Statue of Liberty being an Angel is amusing, but I don't think it would ever be able to get anywhere, especially to a building in the city. I imaging there are not that many opportunities for movement when no one is looking at the statue.

Nice to see River again, I hope that she stays for the Christmas episode.

Since when can the Doctor whip out some regeneration energy whenever he feels like it?

I read that any scenes that they actually filmed in NY had the Angels/Tardis added in Post - http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2012-...hattan-preview

Tivo Desktop won't transfer The Avengers

Series 1 Lifetime Tivo Transfer problem

Sat, 09/29/2012 - 17:45
bought a broken series 1 lifetime unit that should have an activation date prior to the 2000 cutoff that would allow me to transfer service to a newer box..

in the past I called tivo and gave them the newly purchased vintage serial number to add to my account then called back the next day to transfer the lifetime to a newer unit. now Tivo wants me to run guided setup to change the zipcode to my area or at least tell them the zip code of the last known time it was setup..

1. unit is fried, don't want to fix a unit I'm going to never use again
2. don't have a phone line going on 3 years now, and don't want to but a series 1 network card and do the above.

is there a way to get around this short of calling until I get an amenable service rep?

Is TiVo activation even needed during this scheduled maintenance?

Sat, 09/29/2012 - 15:54
Hello! I just bought a Premiere XL4 and am going out of town tomorrow but am facing the fact that there is a scheduled maintenance and can't activate. The TiVo seems to have downloaded enough guide data to last while I'm out of town, but is this normal? I thought it wouldn't work unless activated. Maybe TiVo is allowing it initially since it's a new device AND there's a scheduled outage? I just want to make sure I get back from my trip and everything I set to record actually does.

iHeart Radio festival 2012 concert on CW - Monday, 10/1

Sat, 09/29/2012 - 15:02
CW Network to air the iHeart Radio 2012 Festival (or at least highlights from same) on Monday, 10/1/2012.

The article mentions the meltdown from Greenday lead: Billie Joe Armstrong though I'm pretty confident that would be heavily edited in the televised version of the show (especially given the language that he used).

Airtime is 8pm in the east. Check your guide for more information and all that jazz.

off-the-shelf replacement drive ?

Sat, 09/29/2012 - 13:49
Can I buy a TIVO drive (same as stock size) to just replace my current internal drive ? I don't want to be bothered with prep and cloning. I just want to remove the old drive and screw in the new one. I don't need to save any shows. Can this be done ? Where can I find one ?

Guide data appears wrong for a number of channels

Sat, 09/29/2012 - 11:39
I'm seeing discrepancies between TiVo's guide data and that of Zap2It TV for a number of channels as of October 1. Channels I've noticed with screwy data are:
Cartoon Network
Comedy Central

There might be others, but that's ones I've noticed. Problems I've seen are:

1. Guide data simply being wrong, where the wrong show is shown airing at the wrong time.
2. Guide data shows the correct show at the correct time, but there is no detailed program description so it just shows generic data.

As such shows are getting scheduled at the wrong times in addition all airings of a show being aired.

For example, I have a season pass for Robot Chicken on Cartoon Network. Compare TiVo's listings to Zap2It's listings.

Basically it looks like TiVo's guide data is wrong or not updating for some cable channels.

TiVo guide data problems (showing generic and also wrong at times)

Sat, 09/29/2012 - 11:29
I'm noticing a large number of programs scheduled to record in my To Do list that have generic guide data, so they are scheduled to record. This mainly seems to be cable channels like Nickelodeon, Comedy Central and Cartoon Network.

When I checked TiVo's web site, the guide data matched what I saw on my TiVos, but when it does not match Zap2It TV. Usually they are identical, but starting 10/2 they no longer match.

For example, here's Cartoon Network's MAD in the TiVo scheduled and here it is on Zap2It TV. Notice that Zap2It actually shows episode titles and TiVo does not. Not only that, but TiVo has a 6:30 AM daily airing which isn't in the Zap2It listings (it shows another program airing at that time).

Here's The Daily Show at TiVo's site and at Zap2It's site. TiVo correctly identifies which episodes are repeats but doesn't show who the guests are. Zap2It shows the guest info.

Other channels like Fox, Discovery and NBC are fine.

It's like TiVo's guide data is out of date or corrupted for certain channels or something.

Anyone else seeing this?
