Shows in Wishlist recorded and immediately deleted?! Help!

Tue, 02/05/2013 - 23:12
Sigh, this one's got me vexed.

Tivo Premiere DVR, totally empty of any programs (no suggested, no recordings, no nothing). Wishlist items programmed, set to record, no conflicts, delete when space needed, save up to 5 episodes. The show comes on, the Tivo records it, then immediately deletes it (even gone from recently deleted) and reason listed in History is "space needed". There's nothing recorded, please help!

Smash "On Broadway"/"The Fallout" (S02E01 and S02E02, 2/5/2013) - Spoilers

Tue, 02/05/2013 - 22:37
Ok, the spoiler thread. I previously discussed the first of the two episodes in another thread, when it was posted to the internet, but some probably waited until it hit the air.

During the scene with Karen listening in on Jimmy playing and singing in the bar, the only thing I kept thinking was: "Chuck? Chuck? It's Marvin... your cousin, Marvin BERRY... You know that new sound you were looking for? Well listen to THIS!!!" :D

I think I liked the first episode better than the second, and I'm not sure why. I think maybe because the whole first episode seemed a little more grounded. I had trouble believing the second episode, and it didn't help that they decided to include a fantasy musical number. (the Eurythmics "Would I Lie To You?") That, plus them crashing (and being allowed to crash) the Wing's gala seemed to stretch incredulity.

I think, at least for me, I would prefer if they wouldn't try and force musical numbers into this show. This show isn't Glee. This show actually has a decent dramatic storyline in addition to the music. I'd prefer if the music comes when it fits in naturally, and if that means less music on this show, I'm OK with that. It makes when they can feature it that much more special. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like that's the way this show is going.

I'm not sure what to think of Jimmy. There's something rather offputting about the way the actor is performing the character. I'm not sure if I can describe it well enough. I think it may be that he doesn't come across quite natural enough. He seems a little stiff. And frankly, in those moments where he wasn't mad at Karen, where he was supposed to be flirting with her, I actually think there was *anti*-chemistry, like he was sucking the chemistry away from the other characters in the scene. I dunno, maybe it's just me.

The song of Jimmy's that Karen sang was actually rather good... but then the clip of the song that Karen and Derek listened to was, frankly, rather cringe-worthy. The show's musical writers need to try harder if they want me to believe this is the next Rent, because although he sang the hell out of it. the "Broadway Here I Come" song wasn't very good either.

resolving conflicts

Tue, 02/05/2013 - 19:33
I've had this Premier, using HD, for six months - this is my first time with old shows and news shows overlapping and conflicting. (Comcast cable, if that makes a difference.)

Is there a way to see all my Season Passes in a calendar-type spreadsheet so that I can see and rearrange, say, the Mondays at 10 PM conflicts/overlaps? A way to sort the Season Passes by day and time?

And do I have to actively look at History or ToDo to see conflicts? I don't get any notifications?

And, if I try to re-Season Pass a program that plays again say at 2 AM, TiVo doesn't accept that as the Season Pass, reverts to the prime time. Help with that?

And, sometimes the same program is playing on several channels but only once in creating a Season Pass was I able to select a different channel.

Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome

Tue, 02/05/2013 - 12:17
Not exactly a season pass, but the TiVo guide data (both on my device and on the web site) shows the premiere time as 9:00 pm E/P on Sunday. The SyFy web site shows 8:00 pm, and so does Zap2It. I'm guessing it's the TiVo data that's in error.

Tivo Nightmare!

Tue, 02/05/2013 - 10:18
I was at my stepfather's house to watch the Super Bowl, he had just replaced his original S3 with a premiere, because the S3 was having issues. We were watching the Sandy Hook kids sing "America the Beautiful" and the picture was was breaking up slightly. I figured it was a problem with his cable.

Then the Tivo reboots -- "Uh-oh-- well it should be back before we miss too much of the game"

And then . . . . .
GREEN SCREEN -- "Tivo has detected a serious problem which may take 3 hours to repair"!! AAAARRRGHHH!!

Fortunately we ran to the local Home Depot, snagged a digital antenna and swapped the TV over to that. As the Premiere is still relatively new (even if it is a refurb) I told him to to contact Tivo and have then send him another one.

How I Met Your Mother - P.S. I Love You - OAD 02/04/13

Tue, 02/05/2013 - 08:42
Summary: Filler

Nothing of importance in this episode. I don't think I even laughed once. Normally, I see posts about how awful recent episodes are and I think that they really aren't that bad. This one certainly was. The Barney storyline of going to Canada to interview boyfriends was way out of character. The stalker thing was ridiculous. The whole episode was abysmal, in my opinion.

Show us the mother already and lets get on with romancing her until the series finale. Stop with the filler episodes already.... sigh.

Why does TiVO make is so hard?

Tue, 02/05/2013 - 07:27
I have 2X TivoHD's and 1 X Premiere (dual-tuner). I have a yearly deal on the premiere and one of the Tivo HD's. I keep calling to upgrade the yearly TiVoHD to a 4-tuner and they have no deals for me. Not even that, if I want to change out my hardware they want me to cancel my yearly tivohd and purchase a new premiere and new service. I thought phone company upgrades were hard.. Why does TiVO make it so hard for me to give them more $$? I want to keep my service, I want to pay for a new box. But you make it so hard...

Unsubbed TiVo in My Shows

Mon, 02/04/2013 - 21:14
Don't know if this has been reported before but I noticed a few days ago that one of My Premieres (never been subbed) suddenly turned up in My Shows, its displayed as DVR-xxxx (TiVo Premiere)

Previously it would show up on the iOS app but never before on the TiVo.

Directv dvr r10 channel guide missing

Mon, 02/04/2013 - 20:21
Starting on Sunday, the channel guide on my DVR R10 is filled with "To Be Announced" for every channel. My old 1996 Sony B2 and my newer HR21-200 are both working fine.

Did Directv do another upgrade in an attempt to break my DVR? I.e. like a few months ago when they had the twice an hour reboot issue.

MoCA losing connection

Mon, 02/04/2013 - 20:14
A couple days ago I set up a MoCA network with a handful of Actiontec MI424-WR (rev F) routers off eBay. Configured using info on AVS forum (apparently I can't post links yet...) - basically - disable wireless, disable broadband coax, disable IP address distribution, assign unique IP.

My setup is CenturyLink Q1000 DSL (bridge mode) -> Netgear WNR100 -> everything else. Comcast for digital TV service. I've got two TiVo Premieres, an HD, and an S3. The HD is direct ethernet; the primary Actiontec + Netgear are at the same location. Premieres and S3 on MoCA. Everything worked great, I could transfer between all of them much better than I ever could on wireless. Went to bed, got up the next morning, and none of them could see each other.

Verified from a computer that I could not log in to the admin screen of the 3 remote Actiontecs. The primary one, connected to the router, I could get to OK. After rebooting/ unplugging/ the remote Actiontecs, everything eventually came back up. Next day, again, all had lost connection.

The wiring in my house is far from optimal, I know there are a couple of splitters buried in walls with no way to get to them. In the interest of trying to minimize loss, I'm using a Holland DPD2 diplexer to split the frequencies at each coax outlet (vhf outlet to tivo, sat to actiontec.) I put a 4way 2-2150MHz splitter at the cable inlet - SWM MSPLIT4R0-03 - with a POE filter on the input side. Frankly I was surprised it all worked. But it did.

I'm not including a number of details here for the sake of brevity. I can certainly provide more if it would help. It just seems like there may be something basic I'm missing in the router settings. The only other obvious thing I can come up with is trying to reduce signal loss - at the HD TiVo outlet, it reports cable strength as 62. The other TiVos are around 85-100. The HD outlet is also where I have the first ActionTec feeding into the rest of the house, so given that that line is weak, could that be problem? Can a weak signal manifest as having connection for awhile, but eventually dropping out?

I can run some temporary cables to other locations to troubleshoot, maybe test one coax outlet at a time - but given the connection takes hours+ to drop, that will be a long process. If it is just a router setting, I'd rather figure that out first.

Not Using Tuning Adapters - Am I missing anything

Mon, 02/04/2013 - 20:05
I currently have 2 Cisco Tuning Adapters on my account and I am not using them. From what I can tell I am getting all of my channels that I am paying for.

Am I missing something or should simply return them to Cablevision the next time I am in the area of there Customer Center.

I am in the New Haven CT system.

kickstart 54 questions

Mon, 02/04/2013 - 20:04
I have a Tivo HD with a 1TB upgraded internal drive (no extended drive) and lifetime subscription. I started having some problems where the unit would freeze and then spontaneously reboot. I decided to run a Kickstart 54 test and here are my results so far:

Initial State Pass
Short Test Fail 7
Conveyance Test (jumps around between 10-90%)

The test has been running now for over 34 hours. How long should it take? Should I clear the test and restart? Why does the percentage complete go to 90% and then reset down to 10% or 20%?

What are the recommended next steps? Should I try another diagnostic test?

Cablevision - Channel List of Copy Protected Channels

Mon, 02/04/2013 - 19:42
Good Evening,

Recently I finally got all of my Cable Cards working perfectly. I now have 3 Tivo setup to do my recordings.

I have a TivoHD with a 1gig HD and 2 Tivo Premiere with standard drives. I believe that they are 320gig units.

Because of the level of Copy Protection that is set on the programming I am starting to run into issues with content filling up the drives before I watch it. Very soon the Tivo will have to start to delete stuff to keep up with my requests.

I called Cablevision to ask them if they have a list of all of the channels that are copy protected so I can reorganize my recordings but unfortunately there is no such list.

I am in the New Haven CT system for Cablevision. Does anybody know of a list of channels that are copy protected so I can reorganize my recordings.

Thank you,

Performing TiVo Hard-Drive work with a Gigabyte Motherboard PC

Mon, 02/04/2013 - 19:28
I'm the (un)fortunate owner of a PC which has a Gigabyte motherboard (GA-EX58-UD4P to be exact). I need to perform some tasks with the hard drives in both of my TiVos:

1. Series 2 (Toshiba RS-TX20), with a Seagate 750GB DB35 hard drive. It is showing symptoms of picture freezing, followed by rebooting. I'll check for bad caps, but I suspect the hard drive, since I can get it to freeze and reboot at the exact same spot in a recording. I was planning to use SeaTools to run diagnostics on the drive.

2. Series 4 Premiere, with the stock 500GB drive. I've purchased a 2TB WD20EURS drive to increase the recording capacity. The procedure looks pretty straight-forward using the jmfs tools.

Before diving in to these tasks, I need to know what precautions to take due to the Gigabyte motherboard. I've done some reading about the HPA issue, but I think I need some specific instructions on how to prevent the possibility of messing up my TiVo hard drives.

Thanks for any helpful information (or a pointer to the information).

ERR-2 Comcast/Xfinity On Demand - when using Tivo Search

Mon, 02/04/2013 - 16:52
Does Xfinity On Demand work for others if you go to it via Tivo's search via Find TV->Search

I seem to get a LOT of ERR-2 when attempting to actually watch it.

I can watch shows if I go directly to Find TV->Xfinity On Demand

For example - if I search for "Airplane" - it does appear in TiVo's search as available via Xfinity On Demand. But if it try to watch it - I get ERR-2. When I go through Find TV->Xfinity On Demand and look for it there - it doesn't appear to be available... So possibly ERR-2 is really indicating that the show is not found. So why is the TiVo search finding things that don't really exist in Xfinity On Demand?
