Tried a search to no avail. Today, we received the "new update" that changed the HD menu!
Until I read the info about the new update, I didn't even know I had a choice in menus. Anyhow, the new menus call for pushing a or b or c . My remotes do not have... a b c ???
Unless there is a work-around, I guess I have to go back to the other menu (which worked fine, but i can see the advantages of the HD menu.)
I am not going to buy new remotes unless I reaallllyy have to.
Any help appreciated. thank you. rich
Well, we finally made the break. We hope we don't regret it, but 2 weeks before Thanksgiving the final straw broke this camels back. Shows weren't recording properly on our DirecTV Tivo's.
Hours of testing, resetting and a visit from a tech (again), seemed to resolve our issues. Then Glee, Revolution and CSI NY didn't record on either of our Tivo's. The HR24 only recorded one of the shows.
So, I purchased a Premier XL4 and a Premier. I phoned Charter Cable, they were out in 48 hours with two cable cards. One hour later we were connected via Wireless N and all channel data was downloaded and Tivo updated to the latest O/S.
We signed into our Tivo account online, used their brilliantly designed T.V. guide and I had 40+ shows added to Season Pass manager in about one hour. The DirecTv boxes arrived today and I'll have them at the Post Office tomorrow morning. We became a DTV subscriber in 2003 because they offered at the time a full fledged Tivo. Then moved to HD 10-250... then their prices started to go up and we were forced to use their DVR. Dissat just kept growing and culminated in us moving to the new DirecTv Tivo units that are out today. Seemed okay, until August...
Now that we've been using the Tivo's for a couple of weeks, we are both amazed as to why we ever left. The picture seems sharper, and we can't figure out why. The Premier XL4 is brilliant. Super fast and we have fallen in love all over again. I LOVE transferring content to my laptop for roadtrips. With the holidays coming, we can load up our laptops for those times when we need to "escape family.. hee hee".
OH... and when all was said and done, we are actually saving $82/MO. So, in 11 months we will have recovered our initial investment and then begin saving. So, it all comes out in the wash, as they say.
Happy with TIVO Again
For some years I have been recording TV programs on a Sony HDD/DVD recorder using cable-box>SCART>Sony>SCART>TV. The latest incarnation of the cable box is a TiVo and that has worked fine for about a year.
Suddenly, however, in mid-program the video signal stopped passing through the Sony: the TV made an irritating fizzing sci-fi type sound and the picture was a set of black lines moving from right to left. I can't be sure, as I was operating on automatic at the time, but I think I might have just switched the Sony on. I have been messing about with cables ever since, and trying to reach a conclusion as to what exactly has stopped working but haven't got anywhere. At the moment, the SCART signal will pass through when the Sony is switched off but the faulty screen starts as soon as it is switched on. When a signal is created within the Sony, by using the menu system, or playing a recording or DVD it works just fine. Any attempt to record something from the TiVo disk produces a recording of sound but no picture.
Some weeks later my TiVO has started misbehaving in that sometimes no signal gets through to the TV, even with a direct HDMI connection. If I reboot it everything (apart from the issue in the previous paragraph) works normally. A while later I'll switch the TV on again and there may be a signal, there may not.
Does anyone have any ideas what might be wrong, or how best to test things to work out what's wrong?
Given the latest problem it looks like time to call the Virgin engineer who will doubtless just assume an unknown intermittent fault and replace the box - and I doubt very much if there is any way I can get my recordings off it first. It would be <so> nice if the USB was enabled for connection to an external disk to run the files off the old one and then transfer them to the new one.
I was also thinking of upgrading my Sony to a DVD recorder with upscaling and HDMI output and all the other options they have these days. But there is no point if it's not going to work with a TiVo, any TiVo, so can someone confirm that Virgin haven't quietly "upgraded" the machine to prevent recording via SCART? There is an awful lot of very confusing information out there on the subject of copy protection.
So I have two premieres. One has a lifetime subscription and the other does not, BUT it has a 2 tv hard drive upgrade.
Can I take the 2 tb drive out and just plop it in the lifetime premiere? Or...
Thx in advance
I haven't seen this since I was a teenager and it first came out. It's premiering on PBS starting Friday the 14th.
When in the F* are we getting this? This is ridiculous! No on-demand access... Prices going up.. Comcast pulling Starz HD channels. I don't know why I pay for this! Throw us a bone so we can get access to the HD on-demand content that Comcast took away because it was available on demand...... Well not if you have TIVO!

Well that didn't leave me crying in a corner or wanting to jump off a cliff or anything.
I'm so pissed at both brothers right now. Sam for not trusting Dean more and allowing Martin to knock him out like that and still walk out of that room. Dean for another round of "Benny is better than Sam" remarks. My heart was breaking at Sam's reaction and comment back, "it must be so nice to find someone that you can trust after all these years". I honestly think I chocked on a sob right there. Then you have the phone trick. That was just about the lowest thing he's ever done to Sam. I literally cringe thinking about how it was even premeditated. Ugh. These two just cannot stop screwing each other over. I don't know how much more I can take of this and now I get SIX WEEKS to let this fester. Do not want.
Benny. I'm annoyed that he's turned out to be decent. Only for one reason. Because just once I'd like Sam to be right. But nope, always Sam is making the wrong choice or trusting the wrong people/monsters. Dean is always right and the monster he chooses to trust is good. OF COURSE! UGH.
I know they have a plan. I know this is not forever but it really sucks. Now what, Amelia is back in the current day picture? What about Don? I swear to GOD this better not turn into some stupid love triangle because that is about the last thing this show needs. It's just not that kind of TV (and thank you for not making Don some abusive jerk that we actively rooted against, which I was kind of thinking before). And I guess that clears up the "is she real" argument as she obviously is. Is there anything "supernatural" about her or the relationship with Sam? I doubt it but could be. I honestly keep leaning toward the possibility that Sam might have been about ready to just drive until he drove off a cliff when he hit that dog. Him telling Amelia in the flashback that she saved him was so earnest, so heartfelt and seemed to have such underlying depth that my mind just goes there. I'm not sure if I love or hate that idea honestly.
I just realized as I'm typing all this. Benny is Sam's insecurity. Amelia is Dean's. Dean has always had abandonment issues and always with Sam since he left them for college. Amelia is everything normal that Dean knows Sam wanted. Ugh. Benny is the one person that hasn't failed Dean. Sam feels like his entire life is one failure after another, especially where Dean is concerned. I just cannot deal with these two right now. I'm gonna go over here and cry some more while you all give your thoughts on the episode and my post. :(
The episode aired last night and I think it was titled NYC Comic Con, but they stopped in maryland and visited my friend's home and her collection. He did buy some of her collection and that means she's going to Disney!!
I had never seen the show before but now it's a SP.
My tivo premier box has been locked on a screen that says preparing the update this may take an hour or longer for over 24 hours. when i talked to the support last night they said it must be a big update and was not very helpful. anyone else had this the box is less that2 years old.
Recently, I've started having weird, erratic problems with transfers from my 2 premiers using Tivo Desktop Plus. The file sizes on my PC do not match the sizes on the Tivos, and I am losing anywhere from 10%-50% of the shows. But, it doesn't happen on all shows, and there doesn't seem to be any pattern to it. I've tried direct transfers via kmttg, and via directly linking to the boxes with pretty much the same results.
The shows are complete when you watch them on TV, this is only a transfer issue.
It seems that there's something in the files that is causing the Tivo units to stop transferring (like an EOF) before they are really done. I've rebooted both boxes. I've transferred between boxes, then tried downloading them with the same results, so that tells me it is something in the recorded files.
I just noticed that one of the two red recording lights was on. Curious, I looked at the ToDo and Now Playing lists. neither one showed that anything should be recording. Yet the red LED is showing on the front panel.
Then I went to watching live TV and I noticed that I could only affect one tuner, the other tuner seemed to be stuck on TVLand. I could not change that tuner away from TVLand.
Why was the TiVo recording something that I did not ask it to record?
Why was I unable to stop that recording when I wanted to use both tuners for my own purposes?
What in the world has happened to my TiVo? Has it developed a mind of its own, a mind that is against me, a mind that is set upon world domination?
So I finally got into the 21st century and bought an LCD TV that could support HDMI. Up until this point I've had my S3 connected to a 36" CRT through component cables. I connected my HDMI cable while the component cables were still connected and now the video output is jumbled (audio is fine - see attachments). However when I reboot, it's fine (also see attached), but only up until it's completely done rebooting. Note this is still the component connection to the CRT. I haven't gotten the HDMI to the LCD to work yet.
Is there anything I can do?
We've had our Tivo HD for about 5 years, and it's getting jittery and sometimes stops and needs rebooting. I've decided to try a new 2TB drive from dvr_dude.
If I use the free version of the "Tivo Desktop" software to back up our recorded shows to our computer's hard drive, and then upgrade the Tivo's drive, will I be able to restore them to the upgraded Tivo?
Or do I need the $24.95 version of "Tivo Desktop" to do that?
Just got tivo stream 3 days ago from Crutchfield. Let me start with slight rant that tivo rep said there is no warranty on tivo stream bought at a retailer and that tivo will not fix it or replace it. I insisted that couldn't be right, read him the warranty on the website, but he put me on hold several times and stuck to his position.
Anyway, I am sure Crutchfield will take it back but would like to fix it so here is my problem. The stream set up fine on my ipad 3 and worked fine. I can do anything in a particular session but once I close it and try to use it again, it doesn't stream. It controls my tivo and it starts the tivo premiere recording but then I get an error that says "Can't stream show now" "an unknown error occurred". If I reboot the stream, however, it then works. I can use it again as long as I want but the next time I get the same problem with the error message and it not working. Gone throught this for about 8 cycles and every time is the same. I can only stream and/or download if I reboot. It does control my tivo without a problem if that matters.
I have searched and haven't seen this particular problem. Any ideas before I return it?
Wow, malcolm has no idea how lucky he just got.
Probably the best move to get rid of Carter. Abi is in a good spot to be brought to 3rd.
I just bought a new box to replace my DT. I wanted to get the HD channels finally. Well once I got it and got everythign connected I started to have Audio Sync issues. The bigger problem is that it is speratic not constent. I have tried a hundred different system settings changing from coponent cables to fiber and am still having the issue. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I'm wondering if Tivo HD software updates have been or are scheduled to be End of Lived?
I've read conflicting answers on this question and was curious to see if any knew of a definitive answer.
what prompts this question is my HD has bugling caps and i am looking to replace them and expand the drive from 1gb to 2 gb. However if this investment is not worth it (i'm on a monthly not a lifetime) i would consider getting a premiere 4 and just upgrading the drive on my own.
Thoughts? suggestions? Random spouts of flame?
I'd like to know...
I have several TiVo's at home that I use with my Fios service. I also have a TiVo at our country place, but only have very limited TV channels with our Comcast service.
I'm going to try hooking up a new Slingbox 350 to one of our home TiVos and use it to get our recorded shows at the farm. I thought about getting a Google TV device just so I could get the stream onto the farm TV, until I realized that Apple TV/Airplay mirroring is supposed to work with the iPad. That sounds like a better solution to me.
Does anyone else control their TiVo remotely this way? Does it work acceptably?
