Quote: “Ripper Street” is a riveting new crime series set to premiere within BBC America’s Dramaville on January 19, 2013 at 9/8c. The eight-part series is set in and around Whitechapel in London’s East End in 1889, during the aftermath of the infamous Jack the Ripper murders.

The series, created by “Mistresses” writer Richard Warlow, features a dynamic cast starring Matthew Macfadyen (“MI-5,” “Pride and Prejudice”), Jerome Flynn (“Game of Thrones”), Adam Rothenberg (“Alcatraz”), Myanna Buring (“The Twilight Saga,” “White Heat”) and David Dawson (“Luther,” “Secret Diary of a Call Girl”). The action centers on the notorious H Division, which is charged with keeping order in the all-consuming chaotic East London streets. The first episode will air on BBC America on January 19, 2013.

FYI,

This has started airing in the U.K. and the first episode is available via magical means.

Tivo Premiere + External MOCA adapter still not getting COX Plus Pack channels

Sun, 12/30/2012 - 18:13
Hi all,

Is there anyone out there in the Phoenix or Orange County (CA) COX service area who is using an external MOCA adapter and is able to get the so-called Plus Pack channels? These are the HD channels that COX moved to the H.264 standard this year that can't be received by Tivo HD's, but supposedly can now be received by Premiere units.

Thanks to a software fix from Tivo this past spring, all Premieres that have internal MOCA adapters enabled can receive these channels. However, I have one of the first wave of (non-Elite) Premieres, a "Premiere XL" model, and it doesn't have an internal MOCA adapter. So I have been using an external (Netgear) MOCA adapter to enable ethernet networking. What I found however, is that despite my best efforts, as well as the efforts of some Tivo and COX personnel, my unit cannot receive the Plus Pack channels. Apparently the fix that allowed the Plus Pack signals to pass through the internal Tivo adapters does not work for an external one.

Unless I am doing something wrong....so I'd like to see if there is just one person out there in either the Phoenix or Orange County area who is:

1. Using a Premiere-level Tivo without an internal MOCA adapter
2. Using an external MOCA ethernet adapter
3. Using a COX Tuning Adapter (in order to get SDV channels)
4. Able to receive the Plus Pack channels.

Other COX areas may also have been affected, but I am not sure of those.

The Plus Pack channels in Phoenix are:

HD service also required
1101 - Hub HD (Bonus Pak also required)
1133 - DIY HD - (Variety Pak also required)
1134 - Cooking Channel HD (Variety Pak also required)
1161 - Outdoor Channel HD (Sports and Info Pak also required)
1900 - SWRV HD (Variety Pak also required)

Corresponding Premium subscriptions also required

1202 - HBO Signature HD
1203 - HBO Family HD
1204 - HBO Comedy HD
1205 - HBO Zone HD
1210 - HBO East HD
1211 - HBO2 East HD
1212 - HBO Latino

1222 - Action MAX HD
1223 - Thriller MAX HD
1225 - Cinamax East HD
1226 - More Max East HD
1230 - 5StarMAX HD

1242 - Showtime Showcase HD
1243 - Showtime Extreme HD
1251 - TMC Xtra HD

1263 - Starz East HD
1264 - Starz Kids & Family HD
1265 - Starz Cinema HD
1266 - Starz Comedy HD

Thanks in advance,

Thinking of switching to TWC+Tivo from U-verse

Sun, 12/30/2012 - 16:59
Posted: 30 Dec 2012 22:47
I currently have U-verse U200 (basic+HD channels, no premium) with Whole Home HD-DVR and second tap. That plus 10/1 internet costs a whopping 160/mo in San Antonio. It was palatable with the promo $40 off for 6 months, but now its getting a little crazy. That plus reliability issues with the DVR have me thinking about switching.

TWC bundles a similar lineup with 15/1 internet for 90 before taxes. The bill starts to climb though with equipment rental fees.

So I thought about going back to TIVO. Had it previously in upstate NY and it worked great. Had it with DirecTV and it was great too, sad to see it go when I got my regular DirectTV DVR.

I have no experience with CableCard, but from what I've read it ranges from painless self install to sheer hell with confused/poorly trained techs. That in conjunction with the need to use a tuning adapter since TWC uses switched digital video (SDV) here in San Antonio.

Can anyone share their experience with Tivo and TWC (particularly in Texas)? Is my logic in switching screwy? Will I not be saving what I think I will be saving?

Controlling Tivo with a Receiver in the mix

Sun, 12/30/2012 - 14:51
I have the Tivo HD and the HDMI cable out no longer functions on it.

I just got a Denon 1613 receiver which doesn't have component input.

So, I sent the Tivo video signal to my Sony KDL-60ES700 using a component cable, and sent the audio signal out of the Tivo and into the Denon using an optical audio cable.

I get picture and sound now - but when I turn off the TV using the Tivo Glo remote, the image turns off but the sound keeps playing...
ex. Watching a recorded movie on the Tivo...turn it off using power button on the Tivo remote. The movie keeps playing over the Denon audio.

Edit: I tried using the Remote Control setup - and it didn't work at controlling the Denon receiver audio....

Any ideas?

TIA,
Cindy

stuck in powering up, can I replace drive with new one?

Sun, 12/30/2012 - 09:57
My Tivo HD (original model) is stuck in powering up... Assuming the drive is dead and I replace the drive, how do I get the Tivo software loaded onto it. All the research I've done on MFStools seems that it wants to copy the stuff from the old drive to new drive. My question is, how do I get the software loaded on the drive (or by simply putting a new drive in the Tivo will it somehow load it). Thanks!

Network Adapters N vs G

Sun, 12/30/2012 - 09:20
I am purchasing a Tivo Premier XL4, the details on it say that both the N and G adapters are compatible. I have an unused G Adapter right now, is there any reason to buy the newer N adapter?

How Many Streams at once?

Sun, 12/30/2012 - 07:30
Just got the Stream and so far so good. Looks great on the iPad. Just wondering if anyone knows how many simultaneous streams on different devices can be done at once. I have the first Premiere with only two tuners and am not sure if this makes a difference. Thanks for the help!

Cox customer looking for relief

Sun, 12/30/2012 - 01:55
I'm in Orange County CA (Irvine area) and Cox is the only option. The prices go up while quality and service get worse. I'm thinking about ditching TV and phone services completely, and considering Tivo, Roku, Boxee, XBox, or some "other" smart box for the TV part.

I will be doing my homework elsewhere but I'd really appreciate comments on any of the points below.

Our desires are modest. We don't watch sports. We do get HBO but wouldn't cry about losing it. We like BBC America, science/history/nature programs. We don't care much about network TV, but the wife does like some ABC programming. We also don't care about watching TV on mobile devices, though I like the idea of setting programming through my Android.

So, for other Cox (especially OC) customers:
1) Why did you go to Tivo?
2) If you're still with Cox, why?
3) I hear about Cox dropping HD channels for Tivo users. How is that legal?
4) Does the Tivo box become the tuner/DVR to replace Cox hardware?
5) Is that why they need to be informed about the Tivo?
6) Do they require a Card? Any idea how much it is around here?

7) I'm also not getting warm fuzzies about Tivo these days. I looked closely at it years ago and was impressed with the developer community, hacking, third-party software enhancement capability, etc. But a decade later I still see people complaining about limited features. What's up with that?

8) That said, I'm looking at Premier (99-149) just to start, may get a v4 later, don't need XL4. Are there any "if I had known then what I know now I would have got the other one" notes?

9) (Tender subject) I see people here saying they're having a hard time getting their LT agreements transferred to new hardware. Seriously? What's up with that? From my noob perspective I'm wondering if I'm going to get my 500 bucks worth as hardware continues to improve. Is this something for concern?

10) Some people get Tivo and another box. Why? What are we missing or gaining with Tivo?

11) Can we get content via Roku or another box and save it in the Tivo DVR to continue watching over time?

12) How is OTA in this area? We don't care about network TV, but if we can get it OTA, especially in HD, it would be nice. And I'm wondering how many channels, quality, etc. Oh, and which antenna are you using? :)

13) Finally (really?), we might ditch Cox and go with DirecTV. I see there's a lot of synergy with Tivo. Anyone recently make this move?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your patience and consideration

Thoughts about the 'cons' from this review on a TiVoHD

Sat, 12/29/2012 - 21:10
This is a old review for a older product, but I would like to know how you guys feel about these comments from this review;
http://dvr.productwiki.com/tivo-tcd652160/
Quote: Internal software glitch won't pick up HD video from certain broadcasters

HD picture quality through internal tuner is much lower than when using an external tuner
Channel scan misses a lot of analog cable channels

Prone to lock-ups, often happens if it fails when trying to get WiFi, needs to be unplugged to be reset

Wi-Fi adapter is very slow to make a connection

Interface with the remote is slow, takes awhile for anything to happen after a button press Especially the first three points. What does he mean "HD video from certain broadcasters"? And "HD picture quality through internal tuner is much lower". I know many have stated the sensitivity is suppose to be lower than the original Series three, but I never read anything about what was said here.

Tivo Premier Stuck on "Will Transfer Later"

Sat, 12/29/2012 - 19:07
So I transfer videos from my laptop to my TiVo via the TiVo app on my laptop. I've been doing for years without fail. Recently, my TiVo gives me the "will transfer later" screen and never actually downloads the videos.

In an attempt to fix this I have tried:
  • unplugging TiVo for 30 seconds
  • restarting laptop
  • restarting tivo
  • restarting home network
  • reinstalling TiVo desktop on laptop
  • restarting router

Nothing works. Help please?

Modifying channel lineup

Sat, 12/29/2012 - 18:24
My cable channel lineup does not show the listing for the HD channels that I receive. For example, CBS, channel 2 shows the listing, but CBS HD, channel 2-1 does not. I'd like to change the target channel or frequency assigned to the channel 2 listing. I have a Tivo Premiere, 350GB drive.

Are there discussions or tools to get at the channel lineup information?
Thanks

Streambaby running on 2 different WHS boxes over same network

Sat, 12/29/2012 - 16:45
I currently have a WHS (HP LX195) with Tivo Premiere. I would like to install a 2nd WHS box. Would it be possible to use Streambaby for both WHS boxes on the same network?

If so, is there way we could tell from the main screen which streambaby is connected to which WHS?

HME for python not working on Windows

Sat, 12/29/2012 - 16:14
Hello all,

I am trying to set up and run pytivo video manager for Windows, but I am running into a problem, and maybe someone can help me. I installed hmeforpython and read the README and set it up like it suggested. I then read the README for your application, and did the same. I run the server as so:

C:\Users\ch1\Downloads\hmeforpython-master>start.py
HME Server for Python 0.20
Sat Dec 29 17:56:23 2012 PyTivo Video Manager version 2.1b module initializing
Cache file does not exist - no thumbnails loaded
Sat Dec 29 17:56:23 2012 Server Starts
Registering: clock
Registering: tictactoe
Registering: vidmgr

When I go to my tivo, I see the apps there, but when I click on any of them I just get a "Please wait..." message, which is on the screen for a really long time then I get this error:

"An error occured while running the application. HTTP failure (Http connection error: 0x50005)"

Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

NOTE: I updated the vidmgr install, but still no luck running any of the hme apps.

I am running a Tivo Series3.

Thanks,

Dead TiVoHD, possible dead motherboard?

Sat, 12/29/2012 - 16:02
A couple of weeks ago I came home to find that that my 5 year old TiVoHD was dead (no lights, fan, or video output but the HD still spins). Pulling the cover, there were two bulging capacitors on the power supply. Bought another TiVoHD off Craigslist and made sure that it booted before switching the PSUs. However, that made no difference. The HD will spin but no lights, fan, or video output.

The unit has lifetime and was upgraded to 1TB so I would like to fix it but not sure what recourse I have at this point. Anyone have some insight or suggestions?

For Sale: Tivo Premiere (TCD746320) w/ Lifetime Subscription

Sat, 12/29/2012 - 14:43
Hello,

Long time lurker, first time post :) I am looking to sell my Tivo Premiere (TCD746320) w/ lifetime subscription. Wanted to post here before I try Ebay/Craigslist. We just got Directv, so no need for the Tivo at the moment. The Tivo is in excellent condition and works great (only used it with OTA antenna). I have all of the original packaging and cables/remote. Also, I purchased the extended warranty which expires on 05/21/2013. Asking $400. If you have any questions, let me know. Thanks!

Premier constantly rebooting - surge not getting enough power?

Sat, 12/29/2012 - 13:08
I bought the Tivo Premiere back in September, and it is plugged in through an APC surge protector (not UPS). I also had our old non-HD TV, cable coax, and the Tivo Wireless-N stuff plugged into it. I recently plugged in our DVD player and set it up so we could watch DVD's as well. However, in order for us to watch Tivo in this new setup, I have to keep the DVD player on (since the Tivo AV cables are plugged directly into the back of the DVD player).

Last night, we were trying to watch a Tivo recording when the show stopped running... then the Tivo rebooted itself two or three times before it stabilized long enough to allow us to finish watching the show. This morning, I woke up to the Tivo stuck at the "powering up" screen. After speaking to Tivo support, it seems the Tivo was not getting enough power through the surge protector... and it appears to be working by plugging it directly through the wall outlet. (It has been running for over 30 minutes so far without it crashing... which is much better than what it was doing earlier.)

Does that make sense at all? I feel the Tivo is "unprotected" by keeping it off the surge protector, but I am not sure what else to do unless I move something else off the surge instead.

pyTivo on a Raspberry Pi?

Sat, 12/29/2012 - 11:25
Has anyone tried running pyTivo on a Raspberry Pi yet? The standard Debian Wheezy image for the Pi includes a couple of versions of Python so I was wondering if pyTivo would run.

OTA signal. Help!

Sat, 12/29/2012 - 10:56
I live in new York city, and my OTA setup gets us plenty of viewing options on my TiVo Premiere. But the signal on some channels sucks. I went through a few antennas before I got the RCA indoor that I'm using. (an apartment dweller doesn't have any outdoor options. But some days, the local CBS affiliate looks like when you have a satellite dish in a snowstorm, and it's unwatchable. Some days it's perfect but the NBC affiliate does that. The others are never a problem.

I'm willing to take any advice!

Thanks
