Cable Cards and New Hard Drive

Hello,

My dads Tivo HD(652) had the ext. drive die and I ordered a new 2TB drive from WeaKnees. My question is with Frontier FIOS do I leave the CableCard in when I put in the new Hard Drive and boot it up? Or do I take out the Cablecard and run Guided Setup and after that is finished put the CableCard in?

Well, this ought to be interesting!

Due to CableCard issues, not counting S10 of PR that has just completed, I've only seen the seasons of PR that was aired on Bravo. So I know the designers from the early seasons but not the later ones. (But you needn't spoiler-tag stuff from previous seasons on my account -- just speculation and other stuff from this season of All-Stars which hasn't aired yet.)

To keep the weekly discussions separate, I propose putting the episode title and OAD in the post title area.

I'm about to watch the first episode now, and will be back later.

Help... Serious connection issues

So two days ago my Tivo started acting up. I keep getting a "Problem with the Service (N33) error. So I'm very computer savy... So I started with some basics... Checked all my connections... Everything is good. The Tivo is hardwired via a Netgear N600 router and then a 5-port Netgear switch, this configuration has worked problem free for 10 months...

So I power cycled all network devices... And all of my other networked devices including an AppleTV and my Slingbox Solo are connected to that switch and are functioning perfectly....

I went into the TIVO, and tried to force an update, only for it to get stuck on the Connecting : Negotating. After about 5 minutes it gives me a "Service not found"... I checked all of my network setting... All of which seem fine. I tried to just Test Internet Connection which did the same thing as the forced update. "Service not found (N13)"

It said to check and see if ports are blocked. Now given nothing was changed on my router, but I checked it anyways, and as suspected, nothing was blocked...

So it gets stranger.. Today my AT&T MicroCell also network connected to the router stopped connecting to the Internet. And again I have no idea why it's not working either...

I have Comcast Internet, and still everything else working without issue. I did a speed check and I'm pulling 20mbps down and 5mbps up... So that doesn't seem to be a problem...

I want to try and hook the Tivo directly up to the modem and try and rule out the router, but I've been reading here that I may not be able to do that.. But those threads were a few years old...

Anyone have any suggestions for me... This is uber frustrating!!!

HD Add hard drive external?

Hello, I was wondering if the WDBACW0010HBK has been found to work with the Tivo HD. It is a Western Digitial My Book Essential 1TB.

I have looked around the forums and have not found much for the tivo hd, just the premier.

DirecTV knows their TiVo DVR is faulty. Won't replace it though.

Like many TiVo fans, I held off on switching to DirecTV until the announcement was made that they would be releasing a new TiVo box. I was thrilled to get out of our high monthly payments to Comcast and called DirecTV right away.

I was told I could get an HD DVR for $99. The customer service rep sounded surprised that I wanted instead to pay an $100 for their new TiVo DVR. It also ended up being $5 more per month for the TiVo service, something they didn't tell me, but I figured was worth it once I found out.

Well, since then, like many, many others with the THR 22-100, I have had consistent problems with it from the onset. Aside its internal clock being behind 30 seconds on every channel (resetting doesn't fix it), the biggest issue is the frequent stuttering and pausing. If you're watching a sitcom you're going to miss the punchline. If it's drama, you'll miss important dialog. Forget about enjoying a musical performance.

So, when I called in April after many months of tolerating this, the guy was super nice and told me that it was probably just a hard drive problem. He also nicely told me that this was the first time he had heard of the problem but that they were relatively new. They sent me a new one free of charge with a return label so I could send the old one back with no additional cost to me. Very good customer service.

Then the new one came and it was exactly the same - stuttering, skipping and pausing. So I put off calling them for a long time. Too long apparently because when I finally called today I was told they knew about the problem and would not replace it.

So they DO know that their crappy equipment isn't working correctly! They told me there was no point in replacing it because the replacement would likely be the same way. They said it is a software problem, not a hardware one. They are writing a new program to try to fix the software problem, but there is no time frame. The woman I talked to rudely said "I am telling you that there is no time frame, which means it could be today or tomorrow or next week." I replied with "Or next year."

When I heard all of this I asked just to be "downgraded" to a the standard DVR (which in my opinion I should be paid $99 to do since the faulty THR 22-100 was $100 more). After getting the run around and being placed on hold for several minutes, I was told that it would cost $49 for a technician to come out and hook it up (as though the customer is not capable of plugging in a glorified VCR) and $20 in shipping. Last time it was a simple transaction: they ate the shipping costs and sent it to me to install myself. But now I'm told that is an impossibility.

This isn't customer service. I'm not sure what it is, but the people at DirecTV clearly do not care about servicing their customers. I would get rid of DirecTV in a heartbeat if it weren't for the over $300 in early termination fees I would have to pay.

So the bottom line for those of you who have this equipment is that they know it's broken and are working on fixing it. The bottom line for those who are considering switching to DirecTV is DON'T.

Showtime Season Passes

Hi Everybody !!
I have the new Direct TV TiVo and for some reason when I try to set up a season pass for "Homeland" and "Dexter" on Showtime it never shows up on my TiVo "To Do" list. What am I doing wrong ? Trust me.....I've had TiVos long enough to understand how to set up a season pass, but for some reason something isn't working. I even made sure that the Showtime channel was checked in my channel listings. When I try to set up the SP it asks me if I want to modify it, but still never shows up on the to do list. I have it set to only record "First Run" episodes and to start and finish on time. Any help would be appreciated !! Cheers !!

TiVo to TiVo transfer conflict?

I was attempting to transfer a show from Premiere in the living room to my HD in the bedroom. I received a conflict message that I have never gotten before stating that 3 shows that haven't even been recorded yet, will be deleted early. What confuses me is that the TiVo HD is nearly empty, and even if all the shows in the To Do list record there would still be enough from for this show and several others. Anybody else ever experience this? If so is there a way to stop it from deleting shows that dont need to be?

SageTV Refugee - One Feature Missed!

So not too long ago I bought a SageTV HD300 and the software to run on my media server... a week later Google bought SageTV. I used the product until last month when I had a problem and knew I wouldn't have any way to get support, so I made the decision to buy Tivo, and I am very happy with my TiVo Premiere Elite, but one commonly used feature of my SageTV I haven't been able to replicate.

I copy my DVD's and Blu Rays to my media server. This keeps me from having to keep 100's of gel's in the living room for my toddler to destroy, and keeps me from having to get my lazy butt off the couch to watch a movie. I use DVDFab to rip the DVD's and SageTV plays them just like the disc was in the drive, the key feature being that Subtitles work perfectly. (This is vital for Wife Acceptance Factor).

Now I'd really like to sell my HD300 because I'm not using SageTV any longer, but I need a workable solution and I can't find one. Using StreamBaby I can rip my DVD's to MP4 and watch them, but I lose sub's...

So I come to you, the community, and hope that someone can point me in a solid direction! Note: I don't necessarily care that the answer be Tivo based, if an AppleTV can do the trick, or a Roku or a Polish Sausage I'm willing to look into it!

pyTivo with Mountain Lion

Hey I was just seeing if there are any users here who have succesfully been able to get these two working together?

I had PyTivo working succesfully with Lion and SnowLeopard but have had no luck with Mountain Lion. The service itself reports that its on, and running but the TiVo never sees the list of my movies on my Mac.

Premiere 4 observations

I just set up a new Premiere 4 (TP4) with a new 2Tb WD AF drive (with the park delay turned off), I know I saved only about $35 over the TPXL4 and I did not get the THX certification or glo remote, but I did get a 0.5Tb drive that I used to upgrade the TP4 and will now put that drive aside in case my upgraded 2Tb drive goes bad sometime in the future. (The TPXL4 would require me to purchase a 2Tb drive for backup and hope the drive i purchased had the same or more sectors that the TiVo 2Tb had)
The OEM drive used in this TP4 was a Seagate pipeline HD .2
I have not seen the inside of the TPXL4 but this TP4 system looks much different than the TP, the power supply is 1/2 the size and has only two wires going to the mother board, so the MB must make up all the other voltages needed. It may be my imagination but this TP4 seems much faster than the TP in the menus and boot time. (the cold boot time was 2:50) Reordering the seasons passes was also much faster than the TP.
The cable card from Comcast was activated by me in three minutes using the Comcast special phone number.

Tivo = Biggest scam EVER

After 6 years of Tivo service, I have to say, I've never, ever run across a bigger scam artist. This tops netflix and gamefly, on cancelllation and refusal to provide service when paid. Talk about just flat out ridiculous... here's what happened:

Over the summer, I was @ my sisters, and we got to talking about Tivo, and she mentioned she wanted one. Well, being the nice guy I am, I told her that when I was upgrading, I would send mine to her.

August came, as did the 4, and I grabbed one. Having two already, I called in and told them to cancel the service from the one that was up in September (already paid, etc), as I was shipping that to her. This was done, or so I thought....

Today, I got a notice from PayPal that they attempted to charge the card again for this device. Of course, that threw me, and I had to check it... Turns out, yup, they've been charging the device since September, DESPITE being told not to charge the device, and to take it off of my account.

This is what is called fraud, a scam.. Apparently, they're so desperate for cash that they will just keep charging the card, no matter what, despite being told to take it off of your account. This is the first time I've seen them do this, but this is just ridiculous. Time to look for other alternatives, apparently.

So glad about the Diggle part. Shows where the hero tries to keep his identity and plan secret for too many episodes suck. Let a couple people in to the inner circle, so the hero has someone to talk to and work with. Makes the show so much better.

Thoughts on Deadshot? My thought would be that the eyepiece stopped the arrow from killing him, Ollie had to get Digg out of there, and Deadshot was able to wake up and escape before the police got there.

Not a very deserted island, eh?

Seeing Laurel kick ass was appreciated.

So, last night I was watching Law and Order SVU and they had a few flashback scenes listed as 1999 that showed both Mariska Hargitay and Richard Belzer from that time frame. It was then I realized that this show is the current show I have been watching the longest.

My TCD652160, which worked beautifully for a long time now has problems. It worked great until about a week ago, and then started rebooting more and more frequently. It got to the point it would only run about 10 min, and then reboot. I tried kickstart, but no success. After researching, I opened cover and had one swelled capacitor, which I replaced.

This improved things quite a bit, where it will now run about 1-1/2 hours or sometimes longer, but then instead of rebooting, it just totally locks up and I get the GSOD. The only way to get it back is to power cycle.

I've tried running the various kickstart codes, which all succeed, except the overnight test, where it locks up somewhere during the process and won't finish.

I'm trying to figure out if I have a likely hard drive problem or if there are other power supply problems. It doesn't seem like it would be the power supply, because it can have been in the lock up mode for hours (warm/hot components) and it will still reboot and work okay for about the same time period. In other words, it doesn't seem to make any difference if it was powered down for an extended period, with cold components or not.

On the other hand, I'm not sure it's the hard drive either. I'm tempted to replace it with a new one, maybe from a seller on eBay, that already has the image, but I really don't need the larger capacity all that much, though it would be nice.

What do I look for? I've read that voltages are difficult to check on the power supply's, and you can get get proper voltages and still have a bad supply. Or is it more likely that the image on the drive somehow was corrupted, and is causing the problems? It is interesting that it works for a while, but suddenly and inexplicably locks up.

The interesting part is that it no longer ever reboots, but instead, always just locks up with the GSOD. To me, this seems that it's probably the drive, but then again...

If I buy an ebay drive (I don't have a PC with a SATA port, and don't want to spend the money to get one, or buy the CD needed, or take the time to do it), are there any recommended sellers? I see DVR Dude and uoph as the most common sellers of imaged drives. Anyone have any experience with either?

THR22 - Tell me its not DEAD already?

Got my new THR22 4 months ago, slim 5 dish with swm and 1 receiver so no multiswitch, and it worked for a while... but nothing but problems this last week. I hope this thing is not dead already... or slowly dying
first question: what is the difference between dish setup #4 slimline 5 and #18 slimline-5S (SWM)?? I have tried both but not sure which is what I should be using as any choice also allows you to say 2 tuners and SWM=yes?.

But I have been going in circles after years of hassle free dvr-40 (expanded of course), what started as an error
" Multi switch problem. Check that cables are connected correctly and the multi switch is working properly" confused me as no multiswitch, one line coming from the LNB to the power inserter, 1 cable from power inserter to thr22 swm input... sat input 2 emptly?

but thinking it was a short open connector, I changed out all the connectors and made sure I had at least 1/8-1/4 copper stinger to go into the connection. This seemed to work for briefly, but then I noticed I was getting half pvr'd shows... first 30 minutes was fine, then it went blank and said "searching for authorized content". this was pretty non selective, every show taped over a 2 day period, so I had DTV reauthorize the box and I checked all signal levels... high 90's across the board...

now I get "searching for a signal on Satellite In 2 (771) and searching for a signal on Satellite In 1 (771) intermittently... even though high 90's on the signal meters?

All this seems to have started over the last few weeks... colder weather maybe.... but I am starting to think that my new Tivo box is dying a slow and painful death, taking me a long with it???

Any advice or insight would be appreciated, or do I need a new box?
