Final Gear reports that according to the ticketing people, they will be filming new episodes on January 23rd. As they usually film on the Wednesday before, this means a new episode will air in the UK on Sunday, 27th with four more to follow.
I'm sure it will air on BBCA very soon after the UK showing. Those of us that use *alternative* means, probably won't even wait that long!! ;)
A couple days ago I experienced a problem with my five-year old HD TiVo with Lifetime subscription. I went to watch something I'd expected it to record that morning, only to find that it hadn't been recorded. So I clicked around the TiVo menus and saw that my TiVo seemed to have forgotten it was a "lifetime" device. I saw a message saying that my account was expired or cancelled (I forget the exact terminology). I also saw that the menus shown to be were limited to a very restricted set of options. I'm assuming this is what people see when they don't have a paid subscription for their device or lifetime service on their device.
So I tested my network connectivity. The test was successful. I tried a service-connection to refresh my program data, and this failed. I logged into the website, and the website showed my device as correctly having lifetime service. So I rebooted my device completely - and only then did it register as having service. Again, I forced a connection to download the program data - and when I did that, it correctly downloaded the new data.
Next, I checked my season passes. Every one of them showed up as "None Scheduled". Apparently when my device lost track of its subscription, it stopped checking when to record season passes. I re-ordered the list by moving one item higher in priority assuming this would force the TiVo to re-schedule everything - and this worked as I'd hoped.
If I look back at the Recording History I see a number of items listed as "Not Recorded" or "Won't Record" and when I check the details the TiVo says these items weren't recorded because "it was scheduled with a TiVo Plus service feature." with instructions on how to upgrade to TiVo Plus via their website.
From what I can tell - I'm back to normal, but I've never had a TiVo lose track of its subscription/lifetime service before. Has anyone experienced this before? Is it indicative of a one-time bad download, or a larger warning that this device may be near its end-of-life?

First a little backstory:
I know Charter has their own DVR, however, at the time I ordered my first Series 2 TiVo, Charter did not have DVRs available in my area. Since then I have also purchased a TiVoHD. Both have been working just fine, Series 2 with cable box to tune in premiums/digital stations and the HD with cable card and tuning adapter.
However, on 12/21 I added Charter Internet and did a self install. At that time, they change my package from Digital Home/Digital View/Charter Premium (Showtime & Movie Channel, HBO & Cinemax) to Charter TV Select/Silver Package. While I lost TMC and the Encore stations, I gained back stations that were in the Digital View Plus group (BBC America, Sundance, IFC, etc.) To me this was an even trade as the faster internet connection would enable better streaming via Netflix, Amazon, Epix, etc.
Here is the issue:
I seem to have lost many of the "basic" cable stations, such as the local stations. The HD versions in the "hundreds" range come in just fine.
A tech was called out on 12/22 to troubleshoot the lost channels issue. While working on the issue, he noted that mine was one of a couple of cable card calls he had. He called the next job to see if they were having the same issues and they were...using TiVo and HD comes in fine but not locals.
It should be noted that the channels come in just fine on the Series 2 as well as a direct connection to the TV.
At that point, the tech said it was most likely a larger problem on Charter's end and left. However, that call was after he did a lot of troubleshooting inside and outside the house. He was here for what seemed like a couple hours.
Here is the question:
I did not know if anyone here was having any issues like this and/or what my next course of action should be? The channels are still out and while most of the ones out are available in HD, not all of them are.

ION TV made a last-minute switch of Flashpoint episodes on December 18, 2012, replacing #510 "Lawmen" with #512 "Fit for Duty". My TiVo recorded "Fit For Duty" twice, on December 18 and 21, but incorrectly labelled the earlier recording as "Lawmen". "Lawmen" will air for real on January 8. Your SP probably won't pick it up, so check your To Do List and do a Manual Recording if necessary.
I was going to recycle my Humax DVD writer 40 HR because I bought a Premiere and the DVD part doesn't work. The TIVO rep told me I might consider selling it because there is a big following for them. Where would i sell it and how much do they go for? I have the option of adding lifetime service for $99. Would that add alot of value to it?

As I wrote to Erik, I suppose my biggest beef with TiVo (and other DVR services) is that, ten years ago, I paid $400 for a DirecTV/TiVo DVR and I OWNED the machine. I did not have to return it to TiVo, because it was COMPLETELY MY OWN PROPERTY. Now, one still has to fork over roughly the same amount, but the machines are leased (i.e. NOT owned) by the consumer. And although Erik has assured me that, if the machine is replaced and I fulfilled the 1 year service agreement on it, I can "do whatever (I) want with it", he "would like it back" after it is deactivated.
I was under the impression that wasn't the case anymore.
Are these still "leased"? If you buy a used 'lifetime' unit, how does that play out?
Are there any stats or any ideas on what the average lifetime of a TIVO HD is?
It seems to me that the drive is working extremely hard even when you are just watching a Hi Def channel - given the repeat function.
I know there is a large disparity in lifetimes even for the same model drive, but I am looking for expectations (such as mean time before failure).
New to Forums, but NOT new to TV. So if I've put this in the wrong place, let me know.
I was able to successfully program my old (a few years old) GLO remote to the Vizio VHT215 sound bar. There have been lots of posts on this issue, as the Vizio uses a non standard 5 digit code that was not supported by just about any other remote. I programmed the Vizio ON/OFF power to the 2nd TV POWER button (hit 1 when setting up the TV Power button), up/down volume, and mute. I will say, it took a few tries, as I was getting 10 quick flashes which indicated a failed program, but after a few tries, one by one I was to get this to work.
However, the bad news to my story is that a NEW (just received) GLO remote will not accept programming for my existing Marantz A/V which the original GLO remote (now dedicated to the other Tivo with the Vizio sound bar) worked perfectly. The question; are there issues with new GLO remotes? All programming appears to be accepted correctly, BUT will not control the A/V receiver. I'm only attempting Power on (withe TV Power button - 2nd device control) and OFF programming the INPUT button, as the Marantz uses two different codes for ON and Off.
I've tried the programming any number of times, and the other remote functions work OK, including CODE entry for the Marantz and Samsung TV, but the training functions do not seem to be working at all.
Hello, new guy here with a problem. I am on RCN in the Lehigh Valley PA area. I have an HD RCN Tivo premiere Quad in the main TV area and a smaller box that I think they call a "tivo preview"?? in the bedroom. The issue now is with the smaller box. It has an error or it that says "N30, no internet connection" and it also just has a blank screen that says "searching for cable signal".
Both boxes did this yesterday, power cycling the main unit took care of its problem, but power cycling the smaller box did not fix it. What would be my next logical step to fix it? Also, on the smaller unit when I go to "settings" it is asking for a password. I don't ever remember setting up a password for this box. How do I reset that??
I'm a swimming coach and want to hook my video camera into my TiVo to record swimmers live but have an automatic 30 second loop playback so they can review their technique.
Can anyone help me out with how to get the TiVo to do this and what cables I need?

I received a Stream for Christmas and I've been trying to set it up with no luck. I've followed the instructions to plug it in and wait for the solid white LED before firing up the iPad. As soon as I bring up the TiVo app it immediately jumps into TiVo Stream Setup, but Step 1 is all the further I can get. Apparently the stream needs a software update. Although the prompt says it can take up to 20 minutes, it has been running for hours. The blue bar fills up slowly over about 25 minutes and as soon as it reaches the end the bar will backup and start filling again.
I let this run for over an hour the first time and figured it must be stuck, so bailed out of the app and even shutdown the iPad so the app was truly down. I rebooted the Stream and waited for the white LED again. It has been running for over an hour again and just keeps doing the same fill the bar and back it up again and again. Out of boredom I went online to TiVo.com and registered the Stream to my account, hoping that might be causing an issue, but no difference in behavior. Any ideas on what to do?
Just to answer a few questions before they are asked:
- YES, I have NON-CableCo provided Premieres (An Elite and 2 standard Premieres, unmodified)
- YES, all of the TiVos are hardwired to the network
- YES, everything is on the same network segment
- YES, I have broadband (16Mbps from Comcast)
- YES, the iPad is fully updated
- YES, the TiVo App version is the most recent one available on iTunes
- YES, all of the other functions work correctly on the TiVo app
- YES, I've rebooted the Stream and the iPad
J have tivo elite. I use a Harmony one remote to turn on a Toshiba dlp tv and a Yamaha receiver. When I power up the system the tivo changes to a blank channel. What could be the cause of this?
We just rented The Lorax from Amazon on Demand. It was probably 3/4 downloaded and my kids were about 15 min into it when it froze. We tried patience and then all appropriate buttons before giving up and rebooting the box. After the reboot... The Lorax is no longer in the Now Playing list. The blue light is on. But in the To Do list it says the transfer will start after the last transfer completes. We've been like this for about 30 min now. Very frustrating. My 6 year old says "this is probably why the movie only got two and a half stars." :)
Any suggestions? Or do I run out to RedBox to get the movie?
Is there any way to store music (mp3s) directly on the TiVo's HDD? I have a 1 GB drive on my TiVo HD and it would be wonderful to just have all my music on the drive and dispense with all the network issues.
I just tried to watch the parking spot ep of big bang, there was no dialog (silent) but the laugh track was at full volume. I know it wasn't the tivos fault was it CBS or my affiliate?

OK...I posted earlier about constant rebooting - start up screen , failure to respond to Kickstart. Hard drive is probably ok, though not sure about corrupted files ???
I removed WD drive, installed in my linux desktop PC and came back with SMART data indicating Good drive, no errors, and ran a scan with no faults. Drive showed 66 interupted power downs.
so....what next ?
Can anyone offer power supply output readings to use as a reference in case the power supply is flaked out ?
No capacitors appear bulged or warped but I have to start somewhere.
I am not inclined to think it is power supply since unit powers on, displays a start up routine, and goes through a self diagnostic loop, (then repeats the loop)
I currently have 2 Tivo units in service specifically an elite unit and a premier on both tivos there is one deleted show in the deleted shows folder that I am unable to delete (different shows on each unit ), when I select the item and subsequently select permanently delete the unit doesn't reject the command but it seems to cycle back to a listing of the deleted items yet the item remains. I have tried restoring the show and re-deleting with the same result. Any ideas ? Txs
