I was excited about the TiVo stream product (actually i still am and forever hopeful that they will improve it) and couldn't wait to purchase it. I had to drive to two different best buys before finding it. After about three weeks of usage (very limited) here is why i decided to return it:
1. I was hoping i would be able to save the downloaded files and you do not have access to them. Perhaps they willl have some Tivo Desktop integration in the future to speed up the transcoding. I think it's great how fast it is but i really would have liked to save these to an external hardrive for loading later via itunes or whatever.
2. I really didn't like how the viewing liveTV option left the recorded show on my TiVo. If i was going to watch a particular show i probably wouldn't have minded it but sitting around trying to surf the live tv guide and having all these shows that i had to delete on my TiVo was a pain! Perhaps they will fix this with a newer release.
3. On my final day of usage where i was thinking about taking it back within the 30 day window i started to see an error message popup that said 4 streams were already being viewed (reached my maximum) and that i would have to stop one of them to view another one. The problem was is that i had just rebooted the device, watched only 1 show, and then tried starting a 2nd show. From my viewpoint i had a fresh box and had only attempted 2 streams. So why would i get this error. I did everything but reboot the box and couldn't get it to work. Then i decided boy is this really worth $130? Maybe they will have it fixed in a few weeks or perhaps not.
4. After reading tivocommunity and one of the threads about it being discounted in the future i thought to myself again .. boy at $130 this is a lot of money for something that isn't working flawlessly. So if i return it now, perhaps i could by it again in the future, assuming they make some of the above improvements, for $99 or so? Or perhaps not. Thought it was worth the gamble and unplugged it and took it back for a full refund.
Last night I got home and my THD had lost all it's channels. None were showing up at all. This THD does not have a cable card, tuning adapter, or any of those new-fangled Copy Protection wrappers cable companies like to unload on unsuspecting customers. Just a plain vanilla THD with no mods.
I restarted the box and the channels came back. In fact, I shorted the intro video by going to the TiVo menu and hit live TV. I saw a message for a moment or two that it was locating channels. Wouldn't the analog tuner have just shown them?
Ideas on what might have happened? Is my box dying?
Went to download a show to my iPad and it failed, did a test of the TiVo Stream, it started to install an upgrade. Great! But, what *IS* the upgrade, what version, whats new? Do we get release notes on these patches?
I get emails for subscribed threads. Most of them, in the body of the email, list the previous day's posts. Some however, have a link at the top of the email, goto newpost. I *think* the instant notifies have the newpost link, and the daily notifies don't. But I'm not sure of that.
IAC, I find newpost to be much more useful, as sometimes I visit a thread during the day,and when I want to visit the next day using the email, it requires me to scroll down until I actually find the newpost.
Is there any way to get a newpost link in the daily update notification? Does what I'm asking even make sense?
Does anyone have experience using TIVO Series 2 model Pioneer DVR-810-H-S with the new Belkin @ TV product or with Slingbox Solo? My home network where the Tivo & Belkin (or Slingbox) will be located has internet upload speeds of about 1.5 to 5 Mbps while the remote location has download speeds of only 1.0 to 1.5 Mbps. Will these speeds be fast enough to get a satisfactory picture? I'm leaning toward the Belkin @ TV but would appreciate any advice. Thanks
I just read that Netflix has settled the lawsuit against them for not having closed captions available on all material, and has agreed to do so. They also claim that ~90% of their material already has captions. So how do I get my TiVO Series 3 to show them?
Has anyone else noticed that the ends of a lot of recorded programs are cut off? It happens a lot on the half hour and hour programs and is pretty irritating. Yes I know how to add extra time to the end of recordings and always do this for recording things like NASCAR and such. It just seems that on some programs that arent preceded by live events we seem to miss the last 30 to 60 seconds or so when they show upcoming previews. Its almost like the system clock is off by 30 or 60 seconds. I checked the system time and it is about right with Internet time so Im not sure what the problem is.
It would be a pain to add two minutes to each program we record and seems like an unnecessary step. Im sure this would play havoc with programming that follows if it was on a different channel. The start of the programs seems to be OK, its just the end that gets cut off. We are using a fairly new THR22-100 but this was also happening with our older legacy (as tech support likes to call them) SD units prior to the THR22.
Any body else having this problem? In a search, this seems to have been a problem years ago but I couldnt find any recent posts on it.
recently a certain show i try to upload will only upload a few minutes then stop for some reason....unsure why..but the pic is just fine for the first few min so it is working
if i pull the show, it 100% transfers all the time
what about a show would make it not be able to be pushed? i could understand why i wouldnt be able to push at all, but to have a few min load then stop is weird
I received my Stream yesterday and set it up. I put it on top of my router. It worked perfectly for a few minutes but after about 15 minutes my downloads started failing, the one download I was able to get to complete gave an "unable to play recording error" and I couldn't get it to stream anymore.
After a bit of troubleshooting I noticed my router was sending off a lot of heat and the stream was extremely hot. I moved it off the router out on it's own and it started working again.
Looking at the box itself it seems to be all air holes and a fan. I would be very careful about putting this into a poorly ventilated cabinet cabinet or on/near another AV device that gives off a lot of heat.
I've had a Tivo HD for several years now with no problems, but last night it started giving me out of space errors. The strange thing is, the number of shows on the tivo is very limited - there's no way i could be at capacity.
So i downloaded some program to tell me what was on my Tivo and its reporting that I have 56Gigs of space used and 0 GB free.
I know Hard drives recover from failure by marking sectors as no longer usable, which is a probable cause to this loss of space, but before i start cracking open the tivo and taking it out of commission, i was wondering if there was anything else i should try to help fix or validate the problem.
Oh, i should mention that i went to Tivo Diagnostics after getting the out of space error, where the screen hung for 10 minutes on "please wait"- i had to pull the plug on it. So technically i've rebooted :)

I was really happy with my stream and thought it was great technology.
Then one day my wife pointed out that now we can't see the Tivo Premiere from the Tivo HD (or the other devices) so we couldn't transfer shows. I spent 2 weeks troublehooting that problem, only to find that the way to correct it is to enable multicast IP on my 2 routers. Great. There is a solution.
Except that wen you enable multicast, the stream cannot see the Premiere so I can't transfer data.
So we have the great mexican standoff. I have to turn multicast on so that we can use MRV, and then I have to turn it off to use the stream.
What a mess.
I have Charter Cable..Thinking of getting Tivo and replacing my cable dvr box..What is required for Tivo to work right..
There doesn't seem to be much interest in this show so I'll start a season thread. I was very unsure about this show after the first episode but I'm kind of enjoying it. We'll see.
Every time I begin to think about moving on to something else they do something to make me laugh out loud, and stick with it. This past week's was Bryan saying "What's going on? Is it my birthday?" I had to pause.
Interesting idea for a series. Is this really the first Nashville or country music based series? If so, credit the show creators, because this clearly is an idea for a series that is way overdue. I wouldn't be surprised if this series isn't too far off of some of the real drama that happens around Music Row. I was interested enough, even though I'm not really all that into most country music.
So far, it's very country music oriented... but with the Juliette Barnes character having some vague similarities to a Taylor Swift-like performer, I wonder if the parallels will continue to show the crossover between country music and pop.
I also wonder how fictional they will keep this version of Nashville, or whether they'll start to feature drop-in guest stars from the real world of country music.
I'll keep watching for now, if only because there isn't a whole lot else on Wednesday nights.

Have a new Tivo XL4 and have noticed a problem sometimes when deleting Tivo suggestions while they are recording.
In the Tivo Suggestions, I hit the clear button to delete an active recording, the menu with the 3 options comes up [Stop Recording, Stop Recording and Delete and Cancel]. Occasionally, the focus isn't on the delete menu, but still on the list of Tivo Suggestions. If you try to use the back arrow to dismiss the screen or hit the clear button again, it blanks out the entire screen (just black).
Sometimes you can hit the TIVO button to restart the menu, but a couple of time all I saw was a blank screen with only the live channel window. You have to unplug the TIVO and restart it to clear the problem.
The software is up to date. Anyone have any ideas?

Is it just me or was the music really odd. Almost comedic. I didn't like it. It didn't fit the feel of the episode to me.

Owes a lot to Nolan's version of Batman and I had to get used to Stephen Arnell after several years of watching Justin Hartley on Smallville but overall, not bad.
Green Arrow was one of the few things I liked about Smallville at the end, so I'm looking forward to seeing this interpretation of the character and his DC universe... SP safely in place for now.
