Guide showing "Upcoming:" on most of the channels

Fri, 06/28/2013 - 14:19
I've been manually connecting to TIVO to download the guide for a few weeks now off my iPhone hotspot since I lost my home wifi (long story) and I have to keep manually doing it 5 or 6 times until it goes through however a few days ago the guide is showing with lots of channels displaying "Upcoming: (then the name of some show)" on most of the channels.

I restarted the TIVO Premiere and downloaded the guide again but still the same thing. Anyone else having this happen to them?

'Low Winter Sun' - AMC's new drama starring Lennie James

Fri, 06/28/2013 - 12:11

Quote: The AMC original series Low Winter Sun is a contemporary story of murder, deception, revenge and corruption in a world where the line between cops and criminals is blurred. Low Winter Sun begins with the murder of a cop by a fellow Detroit detective. Seemingly the perfect crime, in reality the murder activates forces that will forever alter the detective’s life, and pull him into the heart of the Detroit underworld. Starts August 11.

How do you connect your Tuning Adapter?

Fri, 06/28/2013 - 11:08
I have split my coax signal between my Tivo and the required Cisco TA with the USB being the only connection between the two devices.

I had a blank screen even and called Tivo tech support. After going through the paces and verifying the connections, the CSR suggested removing the splitter and connecting the coax to TA in series before the Tivo. I took that suggestion under advisement and retained my setup. I had be advised that the splitter within the Cisco TA is inferior to high quality stand alone splitters.

So how do you make the tuning adapter connection?

Can I put the P4 anywhere to start MoCA?

Fri, 06/28/2013 - 07:49
Have Ethernet & Coax wiring to every room in the house. Going to setup P4 & Mini's around the house tomorrow.

To enable MoCA on the P4:

1) can I just put p4 in any room or does it have to be at the patch panel where all the house's low voltage wiring run through & where router & modem are at?

2) Currently use Tivo's wireless N adapter but is it removed from the MoCA setup per TiVo Diagram - how do I get TiVo information now? Do I have to somehow connect P4 to the router in #1 above?

iPhone app not displaying all programming

Fri, 06/28/2013 - 01:53
Anyone know why series don't show up in the guide for HBO, Sho and such when using the TiVo app on an iPhone? I can't see any programs in search either. When I view the guide for any of these channels I only see movies. I understand they don't let you copy them to the device due to copyright restrictions but shouldn't I still be able to see and schedule recordings?

TiVo Premiere...completely new drive...pixilation

Thu, 06/27/2013 - 22:52
I replaced a bad, original drive on a 45hr TiVo Premiere (one of the very first). Used a WD AV 1TB drive, and rebuilt from scratch.
For a month or two, all was well. Recently, however, I've been getting pixilation problems, partial recordings, slow-to-respond interface and stalls. Once, a error saying "error C501" popped up.
Is it possible there was a software update from TiVo that didn't work, or are cable signal strength problems a better possibility? What kind of cable signal strength should I be looking for (Cox Orange County cable card).
Or, has the new drive begun buggering up somehow?

One for the gals: Guys Who Are Easy On The Eyes.

Thu, 06/27/2013 - 21:41
(And some of the guys. :))

(Also, I'm aware there's a hot girl in the middle. You guys have plenty of chances to discuss her. This one's for those of us who appreciate the boys.)

I was just poking around tonight and I found this photo of the Big Bang Theory cast and I thought there'd be some other men fond types who'd enjoy it.

Feel free to share your own.

Can the mini downgrade HD?

Thu, 06/27/2013 - 21:13
If have an older TV (like the old RCA style connections) can you still watch live TV on it with a Mini, provided the Mini is paired from a Tivo Premiere XL 4?

specifically if the live tuner is HD?

FCC Announces Internet Captioning Deadlines

Thu, 06/27/2013 - 19:03
There very good news everyone, from the FCC own website:

FCC Announces Internet Captioning Deadlines

Submitted By Admin On Wed, 04/11/2012 - 13:40
After many years of hard work by the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) and other organizations and advocates, the IP closed captioning rules were published in the Federal Register on March 30, 2012 and establishes April 30, 2012 as the effective date for the rules. According to the rules, video programming shown on the Internet after being shown on television must have captions based on the following schedule established by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

The new rules require the following schedule for each category of new video programming to begin full captioning compliance:

September 30, 2012: Prerecorded programming that is not edited for Internet distribution;
March 30, 2013: Live and near live programming that was recorded within 24 hours of broadcast on television;
September 30, 2013: Prerecorded programming that is edited for Internet distribution.
This means that by September 30, 2013, 100% of new video programming shown on television with captions must have captions when shown online.

By contrast, archival video programming that is already available online but shown or re-aired on television must be shown online with captions based on the following deadlines:

The programming must be captioned within 45 days after the date it is shown on television with captions on or after March 30, 2014;
The programming must be captioned within 30 days after the date it is shown on television with captions on or after March 30, 2015;
Such programming must be captioned within 15 days after the date it is shown on television with captions on or after March 30, 2016.
In addition, the rules require that covered "apparatus" (including computers, smart phones, tablets, DVD and Blu-ray players, and any physical device capable of receiving or playing back video programming simultaneously with sound) sold or manufactured in the United States must have closed captioning capability as of January 1, 2014.

HDMI fried, swap old HD into new TiVo?

Thu, 06/27/2013 - 18:30
So lightning came in via my cable, took out the HDMI on the TiVo (RGB works), all HDMI I/O's on my Onko AVR and one HDMI input on the Tv. I found the ground block lead from my cable drop disconnected in my basement by a careless plumber when my boiler was replaced years ago, so it shouldn't happen again.

So the TiVo has a 2tb drive upgrade. I ordered a refurb TiVo for $99 with intentions of swapping the expanded drive Into the refurb and being done.
Doing a quick search it seems I can't do this without formatting the 2tb drive and going through the upgrade procedure from the refurbs "stock" drive.

Is this true or is there another option? I really didn't want to lose all my recordings.:(

Lower channels with no signal

Thu, 06/27/2013 - 16:57
I have two TiVo HD models. I'll call them Living Room (LR) and Master Bedroom (MBR). Both have Charter cablecards in them. In my area (North Texas), Charter went all-digital (June 11). The cable coax comes into the attic, hits a splitter, and then two separate lines go to the living room to feed LR and the bedroom to plug into MBR.

So same models of TiVo and same signal coming in.

The problem is that the MBR unit is not getting a signal for the lower channels: 2-13. It was previously getting those signals, but stopped 2-4 days ago. The LR unit has those channels with a strong signal.

I am at a loss for where to begin to figure out why MBR is not receiving those lower channels. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Thu, 06/27/2013 - 15:04

have they started updating twice per day?

Thu, 06/27/2013 - 10:43
maybe I'm crazy, but the last week or so I am seeing two automatic updates per day

Premiere XL4 and Amazon download

Thu, 06/27/2013 - 09:02
I am unable to link my new XL4 with Amazon.

I cannot order videos for download from Amazon from the Tivo or from the Amazon website like I used to from my Series 3.

The XL4 does not show up as an option to register on Amazon.

On tivo.com the XL4 is enabled for downloads.

Any thoughts?

I brought it to Amazon's attention that it was not on their list of devices to register.

Big Brother Season 15 Live Feed and After Dark Discussion (SPOILERS)

Thu, 06/27/2013 - 08:53
Let's get this rolling!

Noms are Candice and Jesse.

There seem to be two major alliances in the house, one with all boys and one with all girls. More details coming as I get caught up.

Mad Men - Final Season Speculation (spoilers for all aired episodes)

Thu, 06/27/2013 - 08:37
Thought it might be fun to throw out ideas on what might happen in the final season. Have a guess on what might happen? A dream scenario you'd like to see played out?

I think Don will die. Not after a fall from a tall building :), but Don Draper the person will cease to exist. I could see him faking his death somehow and letting Betty and the kids move on with their lives without him. I could also see him re-assuming his Dick Whitman identity and turning himself in to the Army.

Streaming from P4XL to 2-Tuner w/MoCA

Thu, 06/27/2013 - 07:36
I'd like to ask for some feedback from anyone who has a P4 or P4XL (with built in MoCA Adapter) and a 2-tuner Premiere with an external MoCA adapter, with regards to streaming.

Does it work as well as streaming from the P4 or P4XL to a Mini?

I'm on FiOS, if that means anything since I'm not 100% sure if all MoCA traffic runs through the router or not.

swapping hard drives

Thu, 06/27/2013 - 07:20
I have two lifetime Series 3 (OLED) TiVos. One is now caught in the dreaded reboot loop. I opened it up and it indeed has a bulging cap. I plan to take care of this with a local shop.

In the meantime, can I possibly take the hard drive out of this rebooting TiVo and put it in the other working Series 3 (OLED)? Then transfer the programs on it to one of my other networked TiVos (2 Premieres and a TiVo HD)? Basically, are programs tied to my account or are the programs tied to the rebooting TiVo's motherboard somehow?

I realize I will also FULLY test this hard drive as well to make sure it is OK and not a failing drive.

Deadliest Catch - OAD 6/25/2013

Thu, 06/27/2013 - 07:16
Well, Dane proved himself to be a complete idiot! Whether Keith and the crew were right or not, sucker-punching Freddie is not going to make ANY captain want to keep you around.

Felt bad for the Hillstrands on the Time Bandit. Those pots were coming in well stocked, but 95% had to be thrown back - but dayum, 719 at the end made up for it!

...and Elliot, if you want to try to speak to your women, don't P them off in the first place!

Aereo vs TiVo

Thu, 06/27/2013 - 07:03
I am in the Atlanta area and recently got a beta invite for the new Aereo TV service. Have been using it for about 2 weeks now (I think it goes live for everyone on July 1st).

I must say, its actually a rather good service & I have been liking it. It includes cloud DVR service (20 or 60hrs) & while its definitely in its beginning stages & not perfect by any means, I think it has some promise. For now, it works mainly with standard browsers, Roku and Apple devices. I personally used it on a laptop and my wife's iPad and the image quality was pretty good. Of course, I realize this depends on your internet connection. I have a 40Mbs Comcast connection so I am sure this definitely helped. I would like to try it on a Roku at some point and see how easy it is. Its only for local channels (in certain markets), but maybe it will also paved the way for someone else to come up with a true a-la-cart internet TV package of some kind.

Its not a direct threat (yet) to TiVo, but I do like the whole "cloud DVR" concept and would love to see TiVo go in a similar direction. I'm sure its not in the cards at all for their upcoming Series 5 line of DVRs, but maybe down the road they will incorporate something similar (like local programming only). Only time will tell.
