Fix Descriptive Audio!

PLEASE Fix Descriptive Audio issues. This is now a deal killer for Tivo. In my experience thus far, for those (cannot be identified in advance) shows which have "Descriptive Audio" capability, multi-room is dead with Tivo. Any transfered shows cannot be viewed IMHO, as the audio is so distracting that I have never been able to use any of the transfered content. I'm told by Tivo support that there is not any current effort being made toward this, and that this is a result of "merging" audio on Tivos part. MRV is one of the most key and critical functions of the Tivo for me. Without reliable MRV that is not degraded by the inability to not hear this distracting "descriptive audio", Tivo is not a solution for me at least. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE fix this! ASAP! Descriptive audio has been known and coming for years. Tivo should have been on top of this. That's what we pay for.

pyTivo transfer speed really this fast on the premiere?

background setup specs:
pyTivo running on a Windows7 box, AMD 8120FX (8 core) cpu, 8gb ram.
1 tivoHD
1 tivoPremiere
100mb wired lan

so my previous experience with pytivo was only transferring to the TivoHD (premiere is brand new). Basically, regardless of how fast my pc was (i upgraded it recently), my transfer/encoding/decoding/whatever is the proper term to the TivoHD was not that fast. For a 720p show/movie, it would go just a tad faster than viewing speed, so i could wait a minute and start watching, and it woud keep ahead of me. However, on a 1080p show, it would take at least twice as long as the show was, so i'd have wait to start watching the show until about 3/4 of it had transferred so i wouldn't catch up to it. If i recall correctly, i read somewhere that after a certain limit, the bottleneck was the Tivo.

Well, i just got my premiere up and running, and started some transfers last night. let them run over night because this was what i had lined up:

8.5gb 1080p ~2hr movie
5.5gb 720p ~2hr movie
1.8gb 720p ~45min show

I started them sometime around or after 8pm and queued them up (honestly, i can't remember for sure, i didn't pay attention), watched a little tv until 9, then went to bed. So based on my experience on my TivoHD, i was expecting it to run well into the morning. It would've taken at least 6 hours if not more.

Well, this morning i went to my PC and saw that pytivo was done at what i interpreted as 10:30 last night. Seriously? it only took 2.5 hours to do all that?

is that about right from what people have seen? i'm going to need to do more samples. i had previously rarely dealt with 1080p files because of the slowness, but now, that's no longer an obstacle it seems.

Minute Over Problems?

I noticed that some of the shows recorded were cutting off early, so I added a +1 minute option as a default. While I have not had a chance to check on this, I am wondering if that would cause a conflict in overlapping recordings. Our Premiere can only record two shows at a time. So if there were back to back two show recordings scheduled, how does Tivo handle the overlap? Does it shorten a recording or cancel it if there is a back to back conflict?

Transfer recordings and season pass from a deactivated premiere

I am getting a replacement Premiere XL 4 due to my MOCA and "S02" issues. TIVO is sending me the box first, I left a deposit, and they are going to automatically switch my lifetime to the new box.

Yesterday they shipped out the replacement. This caused my present box with all my recordings and season passes to be deactivated, and the box in transit has been activated with the lifetime from my defective premiere.

I was hoping when the new box arrives that I could transfer the recordings and season passes. Since it is deactivated I am not sure I can do this. Does anyone know how to do this and if it is even possible?

I haven't found a particular pattern to this, but I've noticed at least 3 incomplete recordings since receiving the fall update. They don't seem to be associated with a reboot. Anyone else?

I'm looking to probably sell a TiVo Series 2 DT (w/ lifetime) on ebay. I remember reading a post a while back about someone who sold one, but after it was shipped, it was DOA & the hard drive was damaged.

Therefore, I plan to ship mine insured. I have a FedEX account, but who is the best for shipping a TiVO and protecting it against possible damage AND making an insurance claim if needed; FedEX, UPS or USPS? Just curious.

transfer of lifetime tivo service

so ive never officially tranfered the lifetime tivo subscription to my name. i want to do this so i can get the deals tivo offers on new tivos. anyone know how this is done. i see where you initially register the tivo. how do i transfer the service from the person whom i bought this from on ebay to my own name? and is there any other way to get signed up for awesome deals on a new tivo series 4?

Cox San Diego change to H.264/MPEG-4

Last week I note that I could not receive all of premium channels (in my plus package) on my TiVo HD and could not resolve it over the phone, so they sent a Cox guy out. I had to work, so my brother was there when the Cox guy came and found out that Cox move all premium channels to H.264/MPEG-4 including the SyFy channel. :p The TiVo HD will slowly become a doorstop as Cox move other channels in 2013. While talking with the Cox guy my brother found out that Cox in San Diego is planning to replace all the DVR's with 6-tuner DVR's with a one-TB hard drive in 2013. Did not who would be building the DVR's or what software would be use. If this turn out to be true there no point in replacing the TiVo.

Moving to a new cable provider in FL

Is there anything I can do to make the process faster/easier?

We're using a Premiere Lifetime with M-Card cable card - but going to another state - another provider - another cablecard and channel setup. The new provider will be BrightHouse in Florida - we've had them before in California.

There's a chance we may go to a Premiere 4 Lifetime in between as well - but I'll have both boxes for a while so the season passes can transfer over and the 2 channel Premiere with Lifetime can get sold.

Streaming election results

I do have an iPad with a 3G connection and my Android phone has a 4G connection (and this would be better since I still have an unlimited plan).

We currently have a Premiere Lifetime and would like to soon go to a Premiere 4 Lifetime.

The only "deal" I get is $100 off Lifetime (online existing customer discount)
Premiere 4 - $250
Lifetime - $400 (regular $500)
Total $650

Not a great deal - we'll wait for now until something better comes along.
I've already added 2 more channels of HD recording using EyeTV anyway... and it was very inexpensive!

Xfinity and Premier 4

I haven't used a Tivo in almost 4 years because Comcast/Xfinity wasn't supporting them with OnDemand. But it looks like now they're supporting the new boxes with full OnDemand access. I have a couple of questions that maybe someone can answer?

1. Based on a recent post, it looks like it still requires a CableCard to work. Is this true, or is the hardware such that it's compatible right out of the box?

2. Assuming you need a CableCard, do you need just one, or do you need 4? I know on previous HD Tivos you needed a separate card for each tuner (i.e. if you wanted to be able to record 4 shows at once, you needed 4 separate cards).

3. Quality and support for CableCard applications used to be horrible. I remember stories of people needing to switch out the cards multiple times before they found one that worked. How long has the Xfinity/Tivo service been available? Are the Comcast service techs going to be able to support it? I can't handle needing to make 20 calls to Comcast before I get it working as advertised.

4. Is there a separate fee paid to Comcast for the rental of the CableCard. As it stands now, the economics are pretty compelling to go with a Tivo box. Comcast charges $16/month for their HD DVR service. If I can buy a Tivo box, pay them $15/month and not pay some additional fee to Comcast, it's a no-brainer. I can "amortize" the cost of the Tivo box very quickly given how much better the service is than Comcast's DVR software.

5. Any other opinions on this topic would be welcome.
