For the past few months I've been getting Emergency Broadcast System tests every single day, at all hours of the day, on all channels. It starting to get annoying because about 50% of my recordings have Emergency Broadcast System test. Last night in the middle of a HBO movie I get a 30 second Emergency Broadcast System test. The worst was this weekend during the NFL playoff game with Seahawks vs 49s, they decided to have a test. If they want to tick people off, right in the middle of NFL play game is truly the best day\time.
OK I get it, they need to test the system, but they are testing it so much it is like Chicken Little declaring the sky is falling several times a day, if there is a actual Emergency, people are going to blow it off as just another annoying test.
I have a Tivo Premiere, Mac Mini running OSX10.8.2 and pyTivoX v1.3. Despite downloading 720p clips, after transferring them to the Tivo, I loose a lot of quality - what am I doing wrong?
I'm not at all sure what hdd to look for so I figured I'd check with the experts;)
I did get an adapter for Pata to Sata...I could use(once I find it!) Aren't the sata more efficient on power, I remember reading how power supplies do fail..? Not at all sure what chipset the adapter has? I just wanta get it done...since 1997! haha
Interesting little show...well first episode that is. It's already aired in Canada. I caught it before Being Human's season debut tonight.
I was using TiVo A in the living room, going through the on-screen guide, and I hit record, when it reported conflicts, which puzzled me because nothing else was scheduled at that time, until I looked at the top of the screen and it was attempting to schedule the recording on TiVo B in the other room.
I couldn't figure out why, nor did I know you could do that. Then I remembered earlier in the day I had been watching on TiVo A a recorded program streaming from TiVo B's queue. Out of curiosity, on TiVo A, I pressed Now Playing, and the highlight was on TiVo B at the bottom of the list.
I pressed Live TV, viewed the on-screen guide again, pressed record again, and it was still trying to record the show on TiVo B.
The only way to get TiVo A to record the program on TiVo A was to start playing a program in TiVo A's queue, stop it, and then try to schedule the recording from the on-screen guide again. That time it worked.
Is this normal, or a bug?
P.S. FYI, both TiVos are Premieres purchased in 2012, connected by Ethernet cables to a Cisco router with the latest software update (20.2.2-01-2).
Lo and Behold, look what showed up on my Now Playing last night.
Nice to see you again Hank.
I lost interest towards the last few eps last season, and it continues to look grim for my favorite T.V. bad boy, but I will go along for a few eps to see what they got.
Is there a new show On Showtime they are attempting to tandem with this? Now that Episodes will not return ti 2014, what is a girl to do?
OK. Who else is watching? Admit it!! It's OK.
Many of you know I am a sucker for just about any sort of teen/adult drama. And even more so fore period pieces set in the 1980s. Loving the fashion and music here.
I know very little about the Carrie Bradshaw character, apart from knowing she is a character from the popular TV series Sex in the City. I never watched that show.
The actress playing young Carrie is adorably cute.
Hi there - I am a very early tivo adapter from the 2003-2007 era. I cancelled my subscription around 2007 when I decided tv was no longer worth paying for, and haven't had any cable or satellite since then.
Well, I just had cable installed yesterday and I have a promo with free dvr service through Charter for 12 months. As awesome as it is to have a dvr again for the first time in years, its functionality is completely underwhelming to me compared to what I used to be able to do with tivo.
If at some point I was to switch back to tivo, I was wondering what the difference is with the tivo boxes & service then vs. now?
The boxes seem to be much less expensive - I don't want to mention what I paid for my first box that I bought back in the day. Is there anywhere I can go that would describe the differences of how the technology has changed or improved over the years?
Using TiVo Transfer within Toast 11 on my Mac, was having difficulty listing programs residing on my DVR through my home wireless network. TiVo/and Toast/TiVo transfer has been working flawlessly for more than several years, until a couple weeks ago when the 'no listing of programs' problem started. Rebooting the Mac seemed to restore program listing.
Earlier guidance on the Forum suggested reboot the DVR. I unplugged the DVR for 5-10 minutes, then plugged back in. TiVo gives me the Welcome! Powering up... screen, screen goes dark, then the Almost there. Just a few minutes more.... screen, screen goes dark, then back to Welcome! Powering up... screen, etc.
One time, I got the THx screen, then the menu; I selected Live TV, and then back to Welcome! Powering up... screen.
Any thoughts on what the problem might be?
I don't think I've ever seen a television episode as revolting as this one.
Anyone watch this?

I posted this question in the TiVo help forum and it was suggested that I head over to this forum with my question, so I'll give it a try here:
I'm trying to make a back-up hard drive for my Toshiba TX20 using winmfs, and I connected the TX20's IDE 250GB HD to my XP OS computer with both the TX and my computer HD jumpered to cable select, with my computer HD being in the master position on my IDE cable and the TX drive in the slave position, and after starting my computer I can't get out of BIOS and into Windows. Any suggestions?

I am using a dual tuner Priemire. Recently I noticed that the current time is now showing in the upper right hand corner of the screen and when you are watching a recorded show the counter shows as well as the current time. This looks very similar in the old days with my Seires Two when you press play, select, play, 9, select to show the time. The box is still using the current software of 18.104.22.168.
My wife stated the TiVo rebooted in the middle of one of her shows a few days ago and then the time was there. This shows all the time while watching live TV as well as the counter and time while watching a recorded program. This is not the time that shows below the preview window when you hit the TiVo button and are looking at what has recorded or any of the other menus where you see the preview window.
Is this a new Easter Egg? But I have no idea of the button combinations she hit.
What would cause stuttering on the Pandora service on a TivoHD? Our other Tivo (S3OLED) on the same home network does not exhibit this problem.
(EDIT: I should add that I do only have a 1Mbps downstream link from Knology at our house (128kbps up).. As I understand it however, Pandora uses only about 128kbps downstream anyway. And as I mentioned, our other Tivo is not having any issues with Pandora at all.. So I don't think our measly 1Mbps downlink really has anything to do with it.. But I thought it would be worth mentioning.)
Originally we had mediocre wireless service to this Tivo, Tivo's only "signal quality" would report somewhere in the 35-40% range. (pretty abysmal, huh?) I put a full-size WindSurfer Ez-12 Parabolic Reflector
on an external large Wifi antenna connected to our router and increased the signal quality to 65-75% signal strength in Tivo's network settings diagnostics screen. This was enough of a signal increase to MRV 1080i shows in JUST-above real time (30min transferred in 25 minutes). Not enough to skip commercials, but enough to start watching immediately.
We finally started to use Pandora in the bedroom, but it would occasionally pause and stutter. So I thought that maybe the wireless connection while vastly improved, was still occasionally dropping out.
I then looked into various ways to improve things farther, and looked into MOCA, Ethernet over Powerline, and wireless range extenders. I settled on MOCA because I already had coax between the necessary locations, and in this 30yr old house, re-wiring something or running new network cables to the bedroom is not feasible. Ethernet over Powerline is reportedly inconsistent, and range extenders reportedly cut your throughput to do their repeating.
Anyway, I purchased and installed two MOCA routers (two WI424WR rev-D's), ran some tests with a short coax and with the home wiring (using frequency diplexors at each location), and am able to get upwards of 50Mbps bidirectional and 85-90Mbps unidirectional. *PLENTY* for Tivo..
Yet, Pandora STILL pauses and stutters! :(
Am I doing something wrong?
Season 8 of Dexter will premiere earlier than usual
-- June 30 of this year. And its creator refuses to speculate if that will be the final season...
Is it just me, or would the show be (insert number of your choice, 2 or higher) times better if it concentrated on the kids with Bob and Linda being secondary characters? This episode is a classic example.
Does anyone know how to fix an issue with the downloading of HD Movies from Amazon.
On several occasions I have ordered a movie, the download starts, but goes VERY Slowly. After 20 minutes or so I only had 3 minutes of the movie. I rebooted and after another 20 minutes only 17 seconds of the movie! Clearly this is not "on demand". :)
I have purchased many TV episodes using the Amazon website and sent them to the TiVo with no issues. This seems to be related to ordering movies from the TiVo itself.
It's a Tivo Premiere.
1a. No working standby (one that will allow waking for timer recordings). There is no reason to have a HDD fully running 24/7, especially when one isn't using the device or has any scheduled recordings. Why have the outputs active all the time? All other DVR's that I have had experience with have at least have a standby. Some even will go to a low power mode that still allows timer recording and less than 30 second boot times,
1b Allow timeshifting to be turned off. If you don't use it, why have it continuously recording?
2. No function buttons on the front panel. Though not the only device that doesn't have these,
3. No stop button; every conceivable record/playback device has had a stop button from record players on. I realize there are ways to 'stop' a recording, but a stop button isn't one of them. Are these people from another planet?
4. No ability to skip that annoying "Guided setup" even for a minor change or problem. Give me the option of doing it manually. Everyone isn't brain dead,
5. No separate scans for OTA and CATV. I have never seen a tuner that has dual ability (both modes) not to have this. More unnecessary time consumption wasted for no reason. If only one or the other (OTA or CATV) needs a re-scan, why should I have to be forced to do a complete scan?
6. No ability to add a single channel w/o scanning through the entire spectrum. That's utterly stupid & completely unnecessary. They apparently assume one scan is all you need, every single station/service is available 24/7 and there are no issues with reception problems, stations change physical channel numbers etc. There are users that are above intelligence that actually do know physical channel numbers and can enter just what they want w/o doing any scans. Give us that option,
7. Very limited time span for their "Grid", less than two hours is ridiculous. You own all the patents you need, why aren't you using them?
8. Boot times from power off are excessively long. At least they are for the series three,
9. No recording history (record log), unless I missed something,
10. Annoying child like beeps when in the menu that can't be turned off easily,
11. "Suggestions" that can't be turned off (that I know of).
Applies to Series 3/HD models.
