My Digital Antennae

My antennae where I live sucks!!!....it keeps going in and out all the time. I have a season pass to record a show and I cannot access the channel because it is too far away not in my viewing area....will the roamio still record it if I cannot access it in another area? please help.

I'm surprised there are no unpacking videos.

I posted this in another thread but thought it might be better to post it in it's own thread.

I got my Tivo Romio today, threw in a 2GB harddrive and connected up the OTA. Everything was great until later this evening when I tried channel surfing when guess what. I hit a V52 error message.

Searching for a signal on this channel. (v52)

I have figured out that the problem is if you are trying to use the 3rd tuner. I was able to reproduce the problem by recording two programs then changing to another channel. If I canceled one of the recordings I was then able to tune the channel it was complaining about.

Called up tivo and they are shipping me a replacement. I really suspect this is a software issue but I'll take the replacement all the same.

anyone know what all was changed? I noticed I don't have a stuttering issue anymore with channels sound

So last night my Wife was watching TV in the other room via the Mini. I pulled up a YouTube video of "Never Gonna Give You Up" on my iPhone and then cast it to the Mini. Like 3 seconds later I hear "What the f*ck?" come from the other room. :D

Confused potential new user

Hi. Thanks for any and all help in advance and I apologize for questions that are likely to be redundant to the community.

Until recently we had DirecTV and really enjoyed the tech that came with it. Then we moved and have been stuck with Time Warner (Franklin County, NY) due to tree issues preventing service from either satellite company. We HATE the Time Warner HD DVR. It is just outdated, clunky tech. Now we are considering investing in TiVo. The new Roamio line looks awesome and we'd most likely get the Plus edition.

I just don't quite understand how this works and I need some hand holding. Cost is the first issue. The startup fees are no problem, but right now it wouldn't be ideal for us to drop the lifetime subscription even if that does make more sense long term. We have one HD Time Warner DVR. Do we have to keep that? Can we downgrade boxes (or alternatively have no Time Warner box at all) without downgrading our TV package? If so, will I save any money with Time Warner and be able to cancel out the TiVo subscription fee?

I guess my main question is this: What do I need from Time Warner to make the box work and how much will that impact my monthly bill from Time Warner? I'm hoping it cuts it down some to make up for the bill from TiVo. Time Warner is so unlikely to be able to help me out here based on past conversations with their "customer service" that I haven't even bothered calling them to ask and instead found this forum.

This could be bad news, can't believe I am supporting Time-Warner.

Time Warner Cable's (NYSE: TWC) current standoff with CBS (NYSE: CBS) over retransmission fees is being closely watched by other TV distributors such as NBC, ABC and Fox and could ultimately set the standard for future negotiations.

Typically retransmission negotiations focus on small fee increases, but CBS has asked for a big increase to make up for what it considers a historic injustice in terms of what cable and satellite providers pay for their content. According to SNL Kagan as reported by Hollywood Reporter, CBS wants to leap from 66 cents per subscriber per month to $2 per subscriber per month.

According to SNL Kagan analyst Justin Nelson, any time one of the larger networks such as CBS sets a new standard in terms of pricing, it's likely the rest will follow. CBS is considered a trailblazer in this area, and the company is saying it delivers much more in terms of programming and viewership and believes it should be paid market rates.

SNL Kagan also noted that in 2011, total broadcast retransmission fees were only $1.76 billion, while cable channels were paid around $27 billion that same year.

I'm new here and I just happened to be looking at something on the net and saw where people have been using TiVO on their FIOS service. Here is my setup and I want to know how I can benefit from going to TiVO.

I have 2 HD Multi Room DVR's and two normal FIOS boxes. I have the two multi room DVRs because we record a lot and currently you can only record two shows at a time but then you can't watching anything else on that TV.

How do I benefit from going to TiVo from what I have?

lets keep one thread going with price deals on the Roamio units. I'm sure there are a lot of folks like me who are on the fence waiting for a price drop to pull the triger. I bought two premiere units on first day of launch 3 years ago. With all the pain that brought on, I've sworn to never pay the premium to be a beta tester.

So far I believe the best deals are from weaknees. $40 off the Pro model (couplon code Roamiopro) and $25 off the Plus model (coupon code roamioplus). and I believe weaknees has no taxes (for most) and free shipping.

WiFi connection problems

It will connect after multiple attempts, but then drops the connection multiple times throughout the day. I have to reboot the tivo, and try multiple times to get it to connect again. Even when connected it shows the broadcast channel as 0 even though I am broadcasting on channel 11. The XL I have connects with no problem, shows correct channel and everything. Have rebooted the router multiple times, all other devices including my XL box connect just fine.

I "accidentally" ordered 2 Roamios - Need advice

I initially ordered a Roamio on Tivo.com and then saw the Weaknees offer which came to about $120 less with no Tax and coupon. I tried to cancel my Tivo.com order but it was too late. My Tivo.com order just got here, and now I need to wait 2 more days to get my Weeknees delivery. I am also going away on Thursday for the weekend.

Do you think if I setup and install the Tivo.com order, and then when my WK DVR comes in, I can ship that back to Tivo.com? I know its slightly unethical but I woudl be sending them back an unopened DVR. My concern though is that I see tivo.com already has the ID.

Arrggh! Its stairing at me and waiting 2 days will drive me nuts!

My Cablevision experience for initial setup

Short story: My new Tivo Roamio Pro seems to be working just fine without a tuning adapter. I am a new Tivo/Cablecard user. Anyone know what channels need a TA, if any?

I want to detail my recent experience in dealing with Cablevision employees while trying to setup Roamio. I am hoping others can provide input / learn how clueless their employees are.

I am on their "Raritan Valley" system in Central NJ. My subscription level is the "Optimum Value" package and HBO. Prior to going to CV, tried doing my own research on their site and I found two help documents which listed different channels as requiring a TA.

- lists foreign language, some sports channels, and 3d channel

- lists foreign language, more sports channels, and 3d channel
- also lists "limited premium HD movie channels" (which means 1 or more channels in each movie package, HBO, Showtime...etc)

I headed to the "Optimum Store' in Piscataway to get a CableCard and TA (Tuning Adapter) if I needed one. I asked for a new CableCard and the slob behind the counter said "oh I don't have a way of knowing if it's new; whatever the warehouse sends us". Maybe a clue that the one she gave me was old and roughly used would have been the multiple dents in the card, and the 2009 date on the sticker. I explained the conflicting list of TA channels to her and asked if she could look at my subscribed channel list and let me know if I need it and what for. Her response "oh you should just check online, but I will give you one now and if you don't need it, just bring it back."

So I get home and I try calling their 24/7 support. I explained that I just picked up a CableCard and a TA and I wanted to know what channels required a TA because of the web site conflict. This guy seemed to not have a clue as to what either device was. After a few minutes, and putting me on hold, he tells me "Well the difference between a CC and a TA is that with the TA you will be able to get the digital program guide, video on demand...and with the CC you won't." =)

Eventually he transfers me to the "CableCard dept who is more knowledgeable". This person seemed to be a little more educated on the matter. Yet he still couldn't give me a good answer to my TA question. His answer was "Yes, well I think for all the HBO channels you need the TA". I told him some of the reasons I was getting Tivo was because I haven't been happy with the existing hardware performance for years and the new software/guide they recently pushed out has broken features/created at least 10 bugs. I told him I submitted the issues and got a response to the effect of "we know that the new guide will take some time to get used to..." and I know that they started rolling this out a year ago on Long Island, and the same issues came up and haven't been addressed. Crickets from his end...I guess they can't acknowledge they have problems.

So then the the next day I finally get my Tivo and I call into CV to pair the CC with my Tivo. I asked for someone knowledgeable in CC and I was transferred to another dept. So we initialize the card and then I tell him that I picked up the TA with my CC but I don't have it hooked up yet. Again, I ask what is it needed for? This might be the best response yet: "You need it for most channels, the higher the channel number is, the lower the frequency is, so it is harder for the Tivo to tune it in. You should hook it up." From what I have learned on my own from the internet, the TA is a two-way box that is there for the SDV channels only. Tivo sends the channel request to the TA, the TA then asked for the SDV channel to be thrown on a set of limited bandwidth frequencies and then the TA tells the Tivo which frequency to tune to for that SDV channel. Then after some timeout if no one in the area is watching that, it drops off and the channel is not longer tune-able without another request from the TA.

So I still do not have the TA hooked up. Based on one of the lists in those "help documents" saying the TA was needed for 803 (hbo family hd), 804 (hbo comedy hd), I have been continually checking if the Tivo picked them up. Each time I have tuned to 803 or 804, it works and there is no extra delay or anything.

Is there anyone on the same cable system that can confirm the necessity of a TA?
No one at Cablevision seems to know a thing. If there is no real purpose for it, why waste the electricity and any possible added delays for Tivo <> TA <> HeadEnd communication.

how much should I sell my premiere's for?

I have

-Premiere XL with lifetime
-Premiere basic with lifetime (I think 320GB?)

I also have the following accessories
-TiVo stream
-TiVo slide remote (I never really had much luck getting the bluetooth to work, I don't think its broken, jsut think its more user error)
-WD My DVR 1TB expander (not sure if I'll hold onto this or not)

I do not have the boxes or manuals. Just the units and remotes.

Is my best bet eBay? And should I sell the accesories seperatly or combine then with the XL?

I'm looking to upgrade to:
-Roamio Plus with Lifetime
-TiVo Mini with Lifetime
-at somepoint I'll upgrade the plus with a 3TB drive

Would be nice to take a big bite out of the upgrade expense.
