My previous thread is resolved. My 160GB drive only appeared to be failing because it was full. That problem is solved, though I've lost all the TV shows. No worries, though. There are ... other ... ways to find shows I've missed.
When I thought my drive was failing, I ordered a new 160GB drive. Now that it has arrived, I decided simply to add a 2nd drive, doubling my recording capacity.
I used WinMFS to perform the mfsadd function. WinMFS claimed that everything was done, and I went to my Tivo (Series 1, standalone, Philips HDR112) and installed both drives. I plugged in the power.
My TV screen immediately flashed up the happy little Tivo guy with the words "Your recorder is starting up." I waited. And waited. After 15 minutes, I did a hard reboot, pulling the power cord and plugging it back in.
I waited. And waited. More than an hour and still the same "Your recorder is starting up" screen.
I shut it down, pulled the drives, put them back in my PC, ran WinMFS, and "divorced" the drives using mfssplit. Put the A drive back in the Tivo. It booted just fine. Glad to know I didn't break anything, but really?
What am I doing wrong?
I have been using TiVo Desktop Plus for years to transfer shows from 3 different TiVos to my PC for archiving/storage.
This morning, all three Tivos will not transfer. Transfers fail. Yet, I am able to download to Tivo Desktop, the list of shows on each of the TiVo units.
So, even though I have rebooted the TiVos and PC, I don't think it is a router issue as if it was, I would not be able to download the list of shows on each TiVo unit.

I have been using KMTTG for quite a few months now, never had an issue. This morning, I got my first real scary error message. I deleted KMTTG and re-installed, did everything properly... yet when I go to d/l a program from my list, this is the message I get. Here is a screencap of it.
When I tried restarting and doing it again, got this message:
Can anyone please help out?
Quick question for the moca experts here. I'm considering purchasing a Premier 4 and if I understand it correctly, connecting that DVR to my home ethernet enables moca over my coax. That will be great once the mini comes out but should I install a POE Filter or can moca be disabled on the DVR until it is needed?
In another post notting came up with the reason TiVo to PC transfers are failing, no matter which software you're using, Desktop or otherwise.
The TiVos are handing out expired session id cookies.
I reset a PC to think it's only the 13th, and now I've got a transfer going successfully and about as quickly as I've ever seen one happen.
At the wise suggestion from another forum, I am asking if a newly acquired philips 7000 can be tested without going through the hookup/registration process?
If not, has anyone got experience with the "switchover" procedure?
Sudden file transfer failures kmttg/tivo desktop
I have had file transfers working fine for a very long time in both kmttg and Tivo Desktop. Today they suddenly stopped working. I can see the Tivos and get the Now Playing Lists, but when I start a transfer it aborts with an error. Tivo Desktop log says "error 4" but I can't find anywhere what that means.
File transfers started failing on 3 Tivos simultaneously.
I tried a whole bunch of things. Stumbled across one thing that worked. Changed kmttg to use Java instead of Curl. Tivo Desktop still does not work.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them. If not, at least I'm documenting a partial fix for this problem
My tivo suggestions are NOT recording anymore. Suggestions are one of my favorite things about the box. But lo and behold just out of the blue all of my thumbs *ratings disappeared. I only noticed this because i went in to edit them. I've went in and done more thumbs ratings, even went as far as clearing my ratings and still got a big ole "0" suggestions recorded. I've researched and followed instructions about clearing thumbs, turning off suggestions and then turning them back on. Even restarted the system in between the turning them off and on. This is an issue that I really hope someone has some advice on. I love my suggestions, but now I'm not getting them. What steps must I take for my box to start recording suggestions again? I'll do anything. My does connect through a wireless USB adapter. And it does have some kind of cablecard in the back. I tested channels on the cable card and they all came through. I'm also new to TiVo, got it through my cable company. I just want the easiest and most known working solution that will get my suggestions back to recording. Please help.
My Tivo Desktop Plus was working fine this afternoon, and then this evening, right after the support hours closed, started acting up. Basically, whenever I try to download a video, any video, from either of my Series 2 Tivos, it immediately fails, and nothing I've tried has gotten it working again.
Here's what I've already tried (not necessarily in order I tried them):
1. Rebooting my PC;
2. Repairing Tivo Desktop Plus (through the PC's control panel);
3. Removing and then putting back permissions to download videos in my account on tivo.com
4. Changing the discovery protocol from Bonjour for Windows to Tivo Beacon and back again (didn't work using either)
5. Making both the Tivos connect to the Tivo service (repeatedly)
6. I checked to see if I should re-input my media key but it looks like if I do that, I won't be able to access any of the many, many programs I have on the PC, so I didn't mess with that.
7. I killed all the Tivo related processes I saw in Windows Task Manager and tried reopening Tivo Desktop Plus
I'm out of ideas what I can try, and since I won't be able to talk to support until tomorrow, thought I'd ask here if anyone has any ideas what else I should try. Any thoughts?
All of a sudden I can no longer download any video content via pyTivo...each time I try now I receive an "Error - 400" message. This just started happening today, as I downloaded a bunch of shows yesterday with no problems. It looks like there was a Tivo update which occurred today to enable "Flingo", so I was wondering if this might have something to do with the problem. Anyone else experience this and/or can help me debug the issue? It happens with pyTivo running under either Mac/OS or Windows. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!
I've got a Premiere, in the Bay Area, recording OTA. The season passes on it were mostly transferred from another TiVo, before it was decommissioned.
But for some reason, it's not recording the show Community. I can see it in the guide, but if I search for it by name, all of the episodes are "Title not available."
I deleted the Season Pass, and tried selecting it again from the guide (skipping to Thursday night)... and "Season Pass & Other Options" isn't one of the options.
FYI: The S3 in the same room doesn't have that problem. Wha?
Strange development today. For months I've been able to download files off my TiVo premiere by pointing my web browser at its IP address on my local network. (I can't use the tivo desktop software for some odd reason, it can't connect, but I've never had issues just straight up pointing a web browser at it and logging in with my media access key.)
But today, while I can log in with my MAK and browse the files, I can't download them. I get a message of "Bad header, session id missing." Nothing's changed with my browser or TiVo; I was downloading just fine this morning, even. I tried restarting the TiVo and no go.
Any idea what's going on and how to resolve it?
I have had a Tivo Premiere for 2 years. During this time I have used the "Tivo Desktop" application and also kmttg to transfer shows from my Tivo to my PC.
I have never had a problem with this....... until now.
Tivo desktop and kmttg are both able to see the "now playing" list on my Tivo. However, neither of them can transfer shows off of the Tivo at all.
I restarted my computer.... that did not help.
I restarted my Tivo..... that did not help.
I went to Tivo.com just to make sure that the settings on this Tivo are enabled to transfer shows..... everything is fine with that.
So how do I figure out what is wrong? I cannot think of anything else.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
What kind of Download to device speeds is everyone seeing?
On my iphone 4S i am only downloading about 5-6Mbps a sec(600k)
I dont believe it is my 2.4 network as laptops at a further distance do about 50-60Mbps...
Not sure if it is the iphone or what... Streaming is usually ok unless i get too far
We had been TiVo and DTiVo users for 13 years, and in that time we didn't think we'd ever need to learn how to use another remote. Last year I replaced our aging DTiVos with HR24s. After just simply too long a time wanting to throw the RC65 remote out the window every time I use it, I decided to try the THR22's peanut with the DirecTV DVR. Strangely, there is almost no information anywhere on the web about other people trying this other than simply advising that "some TiVo-specific buttons won't work". Yeah, and?
So far I've managed to get it to work on RF by first activating its RF then setting the DVR back to IR and then once again to RF. But that's about it. The thumbs don't work, as expected, but rather surprisingly the "Live TV" button doesn't work. Because I don't have the TiVo UI running, I have been unable to program my TV's power or my Yamaha receiver's power or volume buttons into it. Do I have to use the 961+xxxxxx procedure? How? Our old TiVo remote had some limited learning abilities and I was able to program in small macros to turn the TV and receiver on and off at the same time; I don't believe anything like that is possible with the DirecTV code set (the RC65 remote can't do discreet "off" for the Yamaha).
Anybody have any idea how to program the THR remote without a THR22 DVR present?
New guy here... i have a very old hughes version directv tivo unit. i want to replace it with a only old philips dvr 7000. before i jump into the replace/contact provider mode, is there any way to bench test the unit i have to confirm it works?
I was sitting here doing my taxes and pulled out my TiVo XL4 receipt from September. The tax looked odd to me so I got out my calculator to figure it out. Here's what my receipt says:
TiVo Product Lifetime $399.99 tax $49.00 Total $448.99
TiVo Premiere XL4 $349.99 tax $0.00 Total $349.99
Wireless G Adapter $0.00 tax $0.00 Total $0.00
TiVo P. E w/Service letter $0.00 tax $0.00 Total $0.00
Sub Total $749.98
Order Total $798.98
Now in L.A. tax was 8.75% at the time. So, $399.99 x 8.75% = 34.99
So I called TiVo and was on the phone for over an hour while they tried to figure it out. They sort of came up with the idea that I was charged tax on the MSRP of $499.99 for the XL4 and $59.99 for the Wireless G. Well, that would work, but that's not what my receipt says, AND the Wireless G was supposed to be free.
So they put me through to a supervisor named Raymond, who was a total jerk. He told me I was wrong several times. He told me that tax in L.A. was 9% (it is now, but wasn't then). He told me that tax on $399.99 was $49.00, it's not, it's $34.99. He kept insisting he was right and I was wrong. I finally asked for his superior and he told me that HE was the supervisor and he didn't answer to anyone else. After dogging him more, he said he would have someone call me back. I hate that. No, unacceptable. So I finally got the number for corporate.
Before I called them, I called the California Board of Equalization, told them the story and they basically said that TiVo is wrong and I should file a complaint. They said that a consumer MUST be able to extrapolate the tax they paid from the amounts listed on the receipt. So if the tax is based on the MSRP, that price needs to be on the receipt. They also verified that they can't charge tax on "free" items.
So then I called corporate, got a really nice guy named David. He told me the same thing, that the tax is on the MSRP for the XL4 and the G adapter. He said because it's a "bundled" package, they can do that...not unlike a cell phone package.
Well, the guy at the BOE told me that the only "bundle" that can do that, is a cellphone, not any other equipment.
So now they're looking into the matter and will supposedly get back to me on Tuesday.
If I'm right and they're wrong, they're going to have to do a lot of refunding to customers. So check your receipts and see what you paid and if it makes sense to you...make sure the tax is right according to the price listed on the receipt.
I'd be interested to hear if others have the same problem.
Well, I got one used and... unbeknownst to me, my wife got me a brand new one for Valentine's Day. Whoops!
She paid full price, and yes, I could return it... but I'd have to ask her for the receipt, if she even kept it, and, well, I'd rather not have that particular conversation or suffer its consequences, if you know what I mean. :D
I'd rather take a modest loss and "pay it forward" a tiny bit by giving it to someone on the forum.
I've sold boxes on here before, and I have a 100% ebay feedback rating as well if references are an issue.
I'd offer it up for $110 including shipping to the contiguous 48 states. That price is net to me - paypal, Dwolla, popmoney, mail me a check/money order, whatever: as soon as it clears, I ship via Priority Mail (2-3 days typical delivery).
This is a brand new, never opened, never used Tivo Stream - as it's just the sealed box, I didn't think it necessary to take pics, but if you want some I can certainly oblige.
PMing me on here emails me instantly, so I should respond expeditiously. Thanks for your interest!
