Odd HR10-250 Weather Related Reboot

Thu, 01/17/2013 - 19:13
I have a brand new HR10-250 box and it's snowing pretty bad here and I have had to go out a few times to deice the dish to get service back but my box does a weird thing and not sure I can turn this feature off? (if it is a feature) Once I deice the dish, our service is perfect til the ice builds backup on the dish and we lose signal and I get that but what I don't get is why my box reboots itself when I lose signal. As soon as the signal drops to nothing, box will reboot and I get the message..Welcome Powering Up. I have a brand new HDD in the box and I doubt that's the issue as it only happens when I lose complete signal?

Charter self install cable cards

Thu, 01/17/2013 - 17:13
I just got off the phone with Charter and they told me that they no longer do professional installation of cable cards, and that I can pick them up at the office when I return their dvr box.

Is there anything I should be aware of regarding steps I need to take regarding installation for my premiere? I'm anticipating the worst in regards to this set up - is it more complicated than popping in the card and running through the on screen setup?

If there is any where online that I can find instructions for dummies, that would probably be the most helpful. I didn't find Charter's website to be particularly useful in this regard.

SyFy's Continuum has Air Date issue

Thu, 01/17/2013 - 17:08
FYI - The new to SyFy series Continuum shows Original Air Dates of middle of last year (probably when they aired in Canada or where ever the show came from). Thus, a Season Pass set as 'NEW' will not catch the new episodes. Set it as New & Repeats if you want to catch the show....

Justified - "Where's Waldo" - S04E02

Thu, 01/17/2013 - 16:33
Still no thread? I am so glad to have Raylan back. I watched last week's episode 3 times and am rewatching "Where's Waldo" for the third time. Art's "Marshall stiffy" and Tim's deadpan "That's a nice image." was great. Every scene with Art was worth rewinding. Not sure if we'll see any more of the Truth clan but that was a public service ad on the dangers of inbreeding.

Lots of little threads to unravel. Looks like it could be a fun ride.

Nice recap at http://tvrecaps.ew.com/recap/justifi...n-4-episode-2/ (some minor spoilers.)

'Do No Harm' - First episode available on NBC website

Thu, 01/17/2013 - 15:57
Just a FYI,

The first episode of the new show 'Do No Harm' is available on the NBC website. The first episode is also available via magical means. It begins airing on Thursday, January 31 10/9c.

Quote: Dr. Jason Cole (Steven Pasquale, "Rescue Me") is a highly respected neurosurgeon who has it all - a lucrative career, confident charm and the gift of compassion. But he also has a deep, dark secret. One morning, after waking up disoriented in a wrecked hotel room amidst near-naked women he's never seen before, he knows one thing: it happened again. Every night at the same hour, something inside Jason changes, leaving him almost unrecognizable - seductive, devious, borderline sociopathic. This new man is his dangerous alternate personality, who goes by the name Ian Price. For years Jason has battled Ian, keeping him in check with a powerful experimental sedative. But now his - their - body has developed a resistance to the serum, setting Ian free once again. And to make matters worse, after being suppressed for so long, Ian is hell-bent on taking revenge on his oppressor. With everyone Jason cares about at risk - patients, friends, coworkers and even the woman he loves - he must stop…

Plex for VM TiVo

Thu, 01/17/2013 - 15:49
Does anybody know if I can use Plex on my VirginMedia TiVo box?

Currently VM are trickling the apps available to proper TiVo boxes at a painfully slow rate, e.g. still no Android support*, despite it being on TiVo for nearly 2 YEARS now and absolutely no sign of Plex ever being made available...

* only iPhone support, despite Android outnumbering iPhones by more than 3:2 in the UK and the mobile phone branch of Virgin Media not selling iPhones!

Reboot Loop w/2 CableCards, Fine w/1

Thu, 01/17/2013 - 15:14
I sure hope someone here has an answer or at least some info for me. Last night I unplugged my Series 3 to move it into a different room. After plugging it in, it rebooted all the way to "Almost There, just a few minutes more" and just as it's about to be done...goes to "Welcome Powering up" And it will do this forever. However if I pull out one of the cable cards so there is only one in the bottom (doesn't matter which cablecard is in there), it boots up fine and works fine with one tuner. If I try to insert a second one, I get an immediate reboot and it starts looping again. Frustrating as I'll get out since it seems you're waiting forever for these to boot up. Anyway, just didn't know if someone knew anything about what the culprit could be, or should I just use one cablecard and be done with it? Thanks a ton in advance! :)

Kroll Show (Comedy Central)

Thu, 01/17/2013 - 14:54
Anyone else watch this sketch show starring comedian Nick Kroll, which premiered Wednesday night?

I was laughing out loud all the way through the "Wheels Ontario" segments, to the extent that I had to use the jump-back button a few times so I could hear dialogue I missed. (Although I think I laughed the most at the ultra-Canadian names in the opening credits -- "Mackenzie Ng" was probably the best.)

Fox Soccer to become 2nd FX Channel, FXX

Thu, 01/17/2013 - 13:37
I'll just quote the important pieces..

Quote: According to several published reports (like this one in Broadcasting & Cable), Fox Networks is on the verge of changing its Fox Soccer channel into an FX spin-off network, tentatively titled FXX, with a focus on both comedy and a slightly younger audience to differentiate itself from FX. Quote: "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" was specifically cited as a series that would relocate to the new channel; its seasons tend to begin in September, which is what B&C said is the target date for launching FXX (or FX2, or whatever it's ultimately called). Extra episode of Oprah & Lance

Thu, 01/17/2013 - 11:48
OWN's original schedule only had the Thursday episode listed with Friday being a repeat. They are in the process of updating the guide information to reflect the second episode that will air on Friday. If you have your Season Pass set for "New Only" you may want to schedule it manually (just in case your box doesn't connect in time to process the info automatically).

Do I have to power down when removing/addding FIOS m-card?

Thu, 01/17/2013 - 11:25
Title says it all, need to move it to new box, just wondering.

Ultimate Spiderman

Thu, 01/17/2013 - 10:52
I'm an old guy, or at least that is what my nearly 16 YO daughter thinks and I love all things Spiderman. The Spider Friends years IMO are an embarrassment, but I really liked the MTV series and the more serial one that ran for several seasons post 80's with the cool guitar riff at the start.

The Spiderman where he goes to counter earth, it's OK, but I like to see Spidey in his native element, so on to Ultimate Spiderman.

Sure this one is about a Kid, but after watching a few of these on Netflix I'm hooked. Each episode leaves me feeling like I'm going to burst out laughing at any point. It's there built up inside my chest and just looking for a way out. This show is really well done and portrays Spidey as a smart mouth and hilarious kid.

I'm digging it.

Go watch it, it's really good.

3D on TIVO

Thu, 01/17/2013 - 09:55
In answer to a query of TIVO regarding the implementation of 3D service, I received a rather vague answer. No, TIVO didn't have any 3D content but yes TIVO was 3D ready. What does that mean?

ESPN has a 3D channel and many cable providers have on-demand 3D movies (depending upon your subscription to HBO, Starz, etc.). Understanding that TIVO doesn't usually pass cable on demand programming, it falls to Internet providers such as Netflix, Amazon etc. to obtain content. Of all these none have 3D content except VUDU! VUDU does have 3D movies for rent or purchase.

Does anyone have any scissors to cut through this knot?

VHS to Premiere?

Thu, 01/17/2013 - 09:48
I was wondering if its possible to copy the contents of a vhs tape to tivo and then transfer that recording to my mac?

How painless or not painless of a procedure might this be? The big bonus for me that I could see is archiving many tapes at a time, and then doing just letting it run with the computer so that I don't have to babysit footage, like I was doing when I tried this project a long time ago with my vcr hooked up directly to my computer.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Face Off Season 4 thread *spoilers*

Thu, 01/17/2013 - 08:52
We have a new season and some early front runners- anyone watching?
I love this show and its focus on the competition- no house drama.

American Idol - Season 12

Thu, 01/17/2013 - 08:24
I started to watch tonight. Only got about 45 minutes in, when the snittiness between Mariah and Niki were too much. I stopped it and I'm going to wait to watch until after they go through all the cities and are back in Hollywood. We'll see then. I'll give it one more chance, if it's not any better. I'll probably be ditching the show.

What did you think of the new judges?

Uncutting the cord

Thu, 01/17/2013 - 08:24
Twenty six months ago I was so fed up with the high price of cable that I cut the cord and went with OTA. I saw about $150 drop on my Verizon bill, which also includes Fios phone, Fios Internet, and Verizon wireless. I installed a roof top antenna/amp and a Tivo Premiere. Despite all the bad reports on this forum about Tivo and OTA, I can say Tivo and OTA work very well. We get all the Washington and Baltimore channels here in northern Virginia. I was very content with the free TV service at our house on 5 TVs with 1 Tivo.

I was constantly getting sales calls from Verizon trying to sell me Fios TV, and I often listened for price quotes which were all lower than my previous cost but still in the $100+ range. Last week I got a call and was interested, so I got the pricing for adding Fios to a single TV for $15 more than my current package of internet and phone for a total of $116 for all Fios services. That covers 75mb internet, phone with free long distance, extra line for fax, the Fios Prime HD package, and a cable card, and all taxes and surcharges. Plus I get a $250 prepaid Visa card. So I figured that refusing the offer was just being stubborn, and it really is not worth carrying the cord cutter flag for a measly $15/month. I think that lots of incentives were thrown in because my 2 year fios contract recently expired. I am getting a new line installed so it does not interfere with the OTA signal on the other TVs. I really only want a few channels back, and the $15/month is worth it. I still refuse to take a cable box, so I am glad I have the Tivo to use which will serve cable and OTA channels.

Prior to the Fios install, should I run Guided Setup for Cable/OTA without actually having the cable card? Would that save time when the installer is at the house, or do I need to wait until the cable card is in the box? Any other suggestions?

buying lifetime subscription through Best Buy at 0% financing

Thu, 01/17/2013 - 08:02
I was looking to possibly get a 4 tuner Premiere from my local Best Buy. I got a 2-tuner Premiere from them last year and while I didn't wind up doing this, the Best Buy rep at the time seemed to indicate that they have a Best Buy rep that deals with TiVo and they could handle getting a TiVo lifetime subscription through them.

Therefore, the lifetime subscription could then be charged to my Best Buy account and (along with the TiVO itself) ultimately also qualify under the Best Buy 18-month 0% financing option (& earn Reward Zone points to boot). I was a little leary and didn't follow through on this. Simply got the lifetime subscription on my own, but does this sound doable? Or is it something that was probably told to me by an employee who didn't truly understand it (wouldn't surprise me) and was just trying to sell a TiVo?

vic is no nucky, nor tony sorprano! letting his wife live is gonna come back to haunt him for sure. the mob daughter using the cop as a way to get back at daddy was just mean of her. she had to know dad's reaction, she's not stupid

also telling dad that the rat is the daughter is one heck of a gamble.

i see doom and death and heads buried in the desert
