I was thinking of upgrading my Premiere to the XL4, and found this site selling for $269. It's Ultimate Home Theater (dot us). Unfortunately I can't post the direct link because I am a new user here.
Does anyone have any experience with this site, and is it legit?
Both seem to stream recordings and live TV to another TV in the house. Somebody throw a book at me and explain the simple concept I'm missing.
New TiVo user trying to figure out the 'best' quality to record at with most recording time capacity. Any guidelines or recommendations on when to use Best, High, Medium or Basic? I've already chewed up 150 gb of my 500 gb in less than two weeks recording almost everything at Best. Used to constantly push the limit on my 120 gb Philips.
TiVo HD with TA on TWC, Southwest Ohio. For several months now I've noticed that anytime an SDV channel gets assigned QAM modulator frequency 543 MHz, there will be severe video pixelation and audio distortion. The signal level is 40 to 45, occasionally going down to 0 and occasionally losing tune on the channel altogether. SNR is 28 dB and RS error counts climbing rapidly. This is the ONLY QAM frequency that has these deficiencies. All other frequencies have signal strengths of 80 to 100, SNR of 34+ dB, and no RS error counts. Even adjacent QAM channels such as 549 MHz.
Today I had my second service call for this problem. The tech was the same one who came for the first call and this time I was able to show him the numbers for 543 MHz in DVR diagnostics. He immediately concluded the problem was upstream from my equipment and went outside to do something.
Turns out the first thing he did was get into the tap box at the corner of our yard and tighten the connectors. And that immediately fixed the problem! (Although it may have introduced problems on other QAM channels -- only time will tell if the fix is complete.)
My question for those who may know is:
Can a poor cable connection cause severe attenuation just on ONE 6 MHz frequency band? It seems counter-intuitive to me but .... ???
Amazon has the Slide remote listed for $49.95 with free shipping this morning. Get one before they are gone if you wanted one.
I want to purchase a Premiere 4 with Lifetime in the next day or days or whenever the Mini comes out.
If I purchase a Premiere 4 with Lifetime from a third-party seller, can I still purchase the 3-year extended warranty from tivo.com?
Is buying the unit directly from tivo.com liable to be the best deal I can get, assuming I can use code PLSR? I used PLSR a few years ago on a TiVo HD.
I have two S2 Tivos (+one temporarily disconnected). I have Cablevision SD cable boxes.
The 'problem' Tivo is a S2 DT model TCD649080.
The other is a S2 Humax T800.
Problem: DT Tivo 649 - any content recorded after 2/24/13 (approx) AND any channels watched 'live' are so dark it is unusable. Basically, you can see figures moving but no real images. I have tried every combination of brightness, contrast, etc. I can think of with no noticeable change. This was all work fine in the beginning of Feb and has for the past 4-5+ years.
Content recorded earlier in February 2013 looks fine. AND - if I transfer a program from the Humax T800 to the DT 649, it plays fine. Content I move from DT 649 to Humax T800 is as dark and unusable as it is in the DT Tivo.
I have verified that bypassing the Tivo 649 and going straight from the cable box to the TV works fine.
My thinking is that there is a problem with the component(s) in Tivo 649 that capture(s) the video from the cable source. I have tried all possible alternative Tivo outputs: Svideo, composite, RF and multiple TV inputs to eliminate the obvious. I have restarted and re-powered the Tivo a few times.
My questions for the forum:
- What might I have overlooked?
- Anyone seen this before? Suggested fix?
- Does it make sense to try to repair? $ vs. remaining life?
- If I decide to try to have it repaired, do I do that with Tivo directly? Other repair options?
My dissatisfaction with Cablevision's services cannot be described with civil discourse. For example, they randomly apply changes to the STB and restart it. It does not remember the previously set volume setting, so it defaults to 17/30. When you watch a program that recorded before you found out you have to raise the STB volume, you have to BLAST the sounds around the program. Poor cable products and service along with the lack of MRV on S3 & HD Tivos has left me reluctant to upgrade. If I change to FIOS, their DVR option (includes MRV) + economics probably does not end with a new Tivo. :(
Appreciate any suggestions...
I just attempted to transfer a program and it seemed to transfer okay (i.e. it took a long time and the size of the file was as expected). But it won't playback in WMP. Just a few pixels show up and it crashes. I first opened it in VideoRedo and the large frame was totally pixelated and "plays". The bottom filmstrip thumbnails were fine.
So what's changed since my last successful transfer - 10 days ago or so?
- put the PC time back to real time.
- applied curl.conf edit
- installed VideoRedo (trial version, still in trial mode)
- updated DivX player (came with a trial converter, tried once)
- lots of conversions (of other shows) learning how to make and get a clip MP4 to my smartphone. (using AnyVideoConverter)
I am retrying the same video transfer now. I will try another show too. For some (cynical?) reason, I don't really expect either of these attempts will change things tho.
Oh, my TD is 2.8
What to look for? What else to try?
my problem is i cant get all of the channels to come in, i get no message just a blank screen, i have had twc here 3 times now i have called the twc cable card hotline and tivo support, they all say the cable card and the tuning adapter is both paired, i have went into settings and it shows 0 emms whatever that means some channels will come in fine and the other ones wont,, so what should i do to fix this problem> because i am paying for cable programming that i cannot get the channel to come in. i forgot to tell you i have the series 4 xl premier
I have just purchased a Sony KDL40HX853 television. With the external ariel connected, the television indicates that HD 1080 is being watched (when tuned to an HD channel). Whenever the Tivo box is watched even on HD channels the television indicates that only SD 576i is being displayed. I have had lengthy discussion with Sony but their technical support assures me that the television information on the signal is always correct and working properly.
The virgin engineer came out but claimed that the picture was HD quality. I suspect that the TV is up scaling the picture but I find it irritating that it should be better - I have just spent over £1000 on this product. Can someone please help!!!!
Sony and Virgin are blaming each other.
I have an HP LX195 running WHS. I believe I am running pytivo because I see the option of transferring my content from the server to my Premiere under My videos.
Is there a way to issue a command from my computer which would send my content from HPLX195 to my Premiere.
At the moment, I can only figure out how to do this from the Premiere itself.
Please let me know. Thank you.
So, how exactly how/when/where did they make the switch while transferring Joe? That was a shocker, huh?
Wasn't Kevin watching as they loaded him into the transport truck, and then, FBI-Lady followed as they drove out of the facility, with chopper overhead? What did I miss?
I saw that the warden swapped/edited the surveillance video, but what was the timing?
Seeing the cult of followers at the mansion was odd and creepy for me.
I think I am about ready to JUMP OFF this train. While I like each of the actors, the story is just too far fetched. The for-effect loud/screeching SFX at the "scary" parts are cheap and insulting.
Falling off the fence.
I cant get access to Winmfs site,I cant find where to register can i find the software any where else ?
I've searched and read through many similar topics; but mine seems unique. My Series 3 THX(OLED) Tivo recently started misbehaving. Playback on recent recordings would stutter/freeze - If I skip forward I could resume playback, and even skip back to near the original freeze point and catch what I missed. Sounds like a typical HD issue so far. However, just today I found the unit in a reboot loop where it will boot fully and work for about two-three minutes(not including boot time) and then reboot. It doesn't matter what I do for those few minutes; watch live TV, playback, stare at the TiVo Central screen, etc... Still seems like the typical HD issue. Next I set the Kickstart 57 code to see if the file system could be repaired. You're supposed to get the green screen with the "serious issue" notice for about three hours while it attempts to repair the file system or whatnot. Here's the deal - even in this mode, it only stays "up" for about two to three minutes and then reboots! And, now that I used KS 57 to "mark" or flag the file system as needing repair, due to the fact that it never gets a chance to finish before rebooting, it now is in a continuous loop of booting to the recovery mode, which it will never successfully complete! I can't force any other kickstart modes to work either. It wants to finish trying to fix the file system instead, so there's no trying KS 54 or even KS 52. However, I'm suspecting the issue lies somewhere other than the HD since even the recovery mode reboots after a few minutes. I haven't timed it yet, but it seems to be constant and consistent in duration. I opened the unit up and the fan appears to be working fine. I don't see any obvious power supply capacitor bulging or any obvious sign of electrolyte leakage either. I just got a new Premiere XL recently so I'm not attached to the old one, but there are a bunch of shows I'd like to get off of the unit, and If this is fixable, It would be nice to be able to resell. If the answer is new Hard drive, I'll just sell it for parts as I'd lose the shows anyway and the unit is not lifetime. However if anyone has some hints I can try I'd give them a shot. I've already disconnected the CableCard, Coax, and Enet. I really just want to be able to bring this back to life long enough to get a few more key recordings off of it. Thanks in advance for any help!
I am trying to use the kickstart 52 on an Series 2 (TiVo TCD649080
). All of the other kickstarts work as described except this one. I get the "Almost There..." screen but not the "Installing a service update" or "TiVo is installing new software from the TiVo service" screen.
I've tried it several times and now the red LED on the right is staying amber even on Tivo Central.
I finally purchased a Steam so I could stream recordings to my iPad (and download them for road trips).
I have a MoCA network set up. I can't figure out why it takes 15-20 minutes to transfer a program on my own network when I can download the same show from iTunes in only 10 minutes?
My network is much faster than my cable modem. Does the Stream impose limits on transfer speeds? I'm sure there is a reason why transfers are so slow.
i have a tivo slide that operates my cambridge sonata AR-30...just vol up and down, mute and power. those keys were individually "learned" to the slide....worked great.
i have since broken the slide and replaced it with another and even though the new one seems to be learning correctly (4 blinks), i get nothing.
also, tried my glo remote, no luck.
any thoughts why this worked previously, but now doesn't.
There is a good chance a lot of people will want to use their Mini's MoCA connection rather than run an Ethernet connection, which is less likely to be present around the house.
Because a lot of people are new to MoCA, hopefully this quick 'n dirty info will help answer most questions off the bat. This isn't a complete A-to-Z MoCA FAQ; it just answers the most common questions that have come up.
If you are a FiOS TV customer, skip to the end.
Enabling MoCA in the Home
There are two ways you can set up a MoCA network to get your Mini and/or P4/XL4/Elite up and running.
1. The cheaper option is to connect your P4/XL4/Elite to your network via Ethernet. This will allow the box itself to function as a MoCA bridge and communicate with the Mini over MoCA. Then connect the Mini to coax and no further setup should be needed. (Using this method, your Mini is relying on your P4/XL4/Elite for its internet connection, so if your Tivo is offline for some reason, so is the Mini.)
2. If wiring your P4/XL4/Elite with Ethernet is not desirable, you can purchase a MoCA adapter ($50 from tivo.com, also available on Amazon, eBay, etc.) and connect it to your modem and router as shown below. This will enable MoCA and your P4/XL4/Elite and Mini(s) will all be able to communicate with the network without further setup.
It is recommended that you install a Point of Entry (POE) filter at your cable TV's point of entry in the home. This helps keep your MoCA signal strong and prevents your MoCA signal from exiting your home and potentially either allowing neighbors into your network or creating interference with neighbor's services. They're $9 on Tivo.com and can also be purchased cheaply elsewhere (eBay, etc). If you are a FiOS TV customer, a POE filter isn't necessary.
Setting up non-MoCA enabled Tivos for MoCA:
If you would like to connect an additional Tivo that is not MoCA-enabled (Premiere, Premiere XL, and the Series 3 and earlier DVRs) to the MoCA network, you can purchase a MoCA adapter and connect them to your Tivos in this fashion:
FiOS TV Customers:
Your home is already MoCA-enabled if your Verizon-supplied router is connected via coax. Your Premiere 4/XL4/Elite and Mini can simply be connected to the coax, and that's all that needs to be done under most conditions.
This is the recommended setup method to getting a MoCA network working for those that have a cableco-supplied Tuning Adapter. A splitter is needed for the MoCA signal to bypass the Tuning Adapter.
I am running late to a birthday party so I can update/fix/add more to this later. Lol. If there are ideas of things missed (but remember it's not a complete and total MoCA FAQ) then post them here.
