I have a TiVo HD I purchased in 2008 and have used it with both antenna and cable. For last year I've been just using a Comcast DVR and haven't used my DVR (like my TiVo BTW). I just moved to new home and trying to set up again using antenna and have Ethernet cable directly to unit. I keep getting a SO2 error after it connects to network and tries loading info. And it takes 30 minutes before it errors out. Have rebooted DVR, router, and modem. Have given it 48 hours to reload directory as suggested. But it still receives SO2 error. And ideas please?
If a cablecard is "bad" (cableone tech supports word not mine) what are the chances that I'd get all my normal channels except for pay channels like HBO and Cinemax? Seems like it would either work completely or not work at all.

This is what I think it should be or it will be in 6 months to a year.
Roamio Pro $399
Roamio Plus $250
Roamio Basic $150
OK, I understands it is faster (supposedly) and built in wifi. But I think right now they are all overpriced.
Does a TIVO access the disk if it's disconnected from the antenna? Here's why I want to know.
I recently purchased my first TIVO - an upgraded Series 3 HD Lifetime. I use it with an outdoor antenna - no cable. The previous owner had no issues with it. But it is freezing on me - won't respond to the remote, and leaves the screen frozen with whatever picture frame was there at the time of the freeze. I must unplug to fix it. It does this on both strong and weak signals.
I would like to isolate the cause. My thought is that it's not the too-weak or too-strong signal cause, or fluctuating power since it fails on all types of signals strengths, and it's on a dedicated UPS plugged directly into the wall.
I'd like to determine if it's the disk. I ran the KickStart code 54 and it passed, then code 57. It still froze afterward. But perhaps the disk still has some issue that these tests didn't detect.
The one condition where it has not failed is when no signal is connected to the input, so that it is always searching for a signal. If it doesn't access the disk when disconnected from the antenna (nothing of value to record, so don't do it), then that would support this conclusion.
Thanks in advance for responding to my initial question, or any other suggestions for finding the root cause.
Tivo's Roamio FAQs state that the Roamio UI will not be ported to the Premiere.
Does anyone know if Tivo plans to offer the Roamio UI on the Mini?
I'm pondering the thought of getting a Roamio at some point to replace the S3 as my main DVR. If I move the S3 to another room, will it act as a "Mini" and be able to stream shows from the Roamio DVR or is it too old? My S3 has a lifetime sub so I want to continue to use it, but consolidating recordings on one DVR is desirable.
I have a few questions before I spend any money on TiVo. I'm currently using Windows 7 Media Center with five extenders, 10 tuners: (2 ATSC connected to an outdoor antenna, 2 ClearQAM, and 6 CableCARD), and 6TB of storage space (4TB internal, 2TB external, plus a 60GB SSD). I built it about 2.5 years ago, and it has been really nice. At the time, the feature set of the TiVo Premier was sorely lacking (no streaming).
My network is currently all wired cat5e gigabit. However, there is one place where the wife would like a small TV (in the kitchen) that would be difficult to wire with Ethernet, but easy to put a coax cable there.
The Roamio-Pro/Mini combo looks interesting. I like the all-in-one features (Netflix and DVR in a single box) of the Mini's. I also like the unified search. Here are the questions:
1) If I connect the Roamio-Pro to an Ethernet connection (which goes to my gigabit switch), and then connect a Mini in a room that doesn't have an Ethernet cable (using MoCa), will the Mini function as a MoCa bridge, thereby allowing me to connect other Ethernet-enabled devices (like a Bluray player) to the Mini's Ethernet port?
2a) If I have a movie, say in an MKV container, with H.264 video, and AC3 audio, how difficult is it to get the movie to upload/play on the Roamio and the Mini's?
2b) What steps are necessary to make this happen?
2c) Are there limitations on the bitrate of the video?
2d) Also, does the Roamio/Mini support DTS audio tracks? How about "soft" subtitles (NOT burned-in to the video)?
3) I assume that the Netflix app can run on the Roamio AND on the Mini's. Can more than one person watch Netflix at the same time? (Of course, I understand that it depends on the speed of the broadband internet connection). But, what I want to know is... can two or three people use a combination of the Roamio and/or the Mini's to all watch a different Netflix show at the same time?
4) Is there a limit to how many Mini's can be watching live/recorded/internet TV at the same time? Obviously, you can't exceed the number of tuners in the DVR. But, does the Roamio-Pro limit the number of Mini's that can be watching TV concurrently?
Thanks for your time. I look forward to the answers.
I would advise you to check your Best Buy's tonight or tomorrow morning. The Roamio's are all on the Thursday trucks in my area headed to stores. They may get there before close or at worst case tomorrow morning. I am in the Chicagoland area...Mine is set to be delivered tomorrow from Amazon.com, was going to get the Roamio Pro from Best Buy if I found it at retail before the Amazon.com order came in...
Surprised nobody has mentioned this yet. I know a lot of people here are clamoring for HDUI screens for everything, but I say leave good enough alone. HDUI Wishlists screens are an example of how perfectly functioning SDUI screens are being replaced by buggy and less featured HDUI screens.
I use wishlists a lot as search bookmarks. So, for example I'll have a title only wishlist called "NFL Football" and use the "upcoming" menu entry to see upcoming games that I may want to record.
The new HDUI Wishlist implementation is just terrible now for that functionality. At least 3 things that are annoying:
1. All wishlists are now set to auto-record automatically by default up front without up front option to not do so. So when I setup a generic wishlist with 100s of matches now the scheduler gets bogged down scheduling all of them only to all be cancelled a few minutes later when I get the chance to go and turn off auto-record option.
2. When using the "upcoming" feature when you push into show details of a match and the left arrow out of it you are thrown to the top of the "upcoming" list every single time. Extremely annoying if you are going through a big list and trying to pick out individual recordings to schedule.
3. Channel up/down to move between show details in upcoming doesn't work, just as is the case for all the other HDUI screens.
i.e. Functionality that worked fine for years has now been crippled. So for anyone asking for everything to be ported over to HDUI, be careful what you wish for. I personally would like to have the old SDUI implementation back for a lot of things, especially Wishlists.
Anyone with a Kill-A-Watt measure the new Roamio boxes power consumption?
My TivoHD ate it's original disk drive a couple years ago. I used one of the recommended drives and a program referenced in these forums to rebuild it and everything was fine until a month ago.
It began with the picture sometimes freezing if left on the same channel overnight. A quick channel change would bring everything back to normal. It was random and rare so I thought little about it. A week ago, it began pausing for a fraction of a second during playback but not, I think, live TV. That raised alarm bells, but I didn't have time to deal with it.
Yesterday, I watched some live TV and a few pre-recorded shows then went to bed. This morning I noticed the picture was frozen again. This time, the channel wouldn't change, the Tivo button did nothing. It was COMPLETELY frozen. I pulled the plug, waited 30 seconds, and plugged back in. All I get is "Welcome! Powering up..." and nothing more. Green power light is on, but nothing else.
Is this another drive failure or am I looking at a bad motherboard? I can replace the drive again if that will work, but don't want to go to that trouble and expense if it won't help. Suggestions?
Also, if the existing drive won't boot but the data is otherwise undamaged, can it be retrieve onto a new drive? If so, could someone point me to the instructions for that? Thanks.
I have a TiVoHD with a $6.95 monthly plan. I want to upgrade to a Roamio ( the 2TB Weaknees Basic is the current contender), most likely with lifetime. Losing the $6.95 is a shame, but I see no way to avoid it since there are no transfer specials right now (or likely to be in the near future).
When I drop the sub I know that new guide updates will stop and eventually new recordings will be impossible. Will I still be able to play existing recordings on the box? Cox, unfortunately, copy protects everything so I can't transfer the recordings to the new box, so I'd like to be able to consume my saved recordings while new ones from those SPs/wishlists are recorded on the Roamio.
I figure it has no value, other than enabling me to get an MSD discount for lifetime on a new Roamio.
I'm pondering the difference between a plus and a pro and was wondering:
If I'm on FIOS, how accurate are the 'hours of storage' numbers? I was under the impression that tivo's just stored the bitstream, so it depended highly on how much the upstream provider compressed.
(new to tivo's)
Can I use the same TA from my S3 that I'm replacing with the roamio
I'm not happy with the new web site. I went to try to schedule a show from work yesterday from the Tivo app and kept getting errors - I forgot it doesn't work remotely with my TivoHD. So I went to use the Tivo web page on my iPad and found there's a new drop down menu that covers the top half of the page. The drop downs covered the search field on my iPad so I couldn't search for my show - every time I tried to click in the search field the drop down popped down and covered it. When I finally was able to navigate to the show through several more clicks, it showed the wrong channels. I then found I had to sign in - again - because the drop down menu somehow redirected me to a new page and didn't keep my credentials cached. Sigh. (I was away from my PC so that wasn't an option.)
I really miss the old m.tivo.com page that just worked nicely on my iPhone.
My take on the base Roamio is...ZERO internal MoCa capability? Currently I have my XL4 connected via MoCa to my Fios router. With the base Roamio, I would need an extra adapter...correct?
Another excellent episode. This has become must-watch TV for me. Fast moving, taut, and as much as I don't want to admit it, Kruger is nailing her role. I still think she's miscast, mainly because of her looks, but she absolutely plays the part to perfection.
I wasn't thrilled they went to the old trope of "just as someone is going to reveal incredible info, they get shot", but I got over it quickly, as the following scenes were amazing.
For the first time, I found the scenes on the ranch (Charlotte & Ray) interesting. Ray brings a new dynamic to that plot that Charlotte alone couldn't. But seriously Charlotte, you ask a guy during sex a question, you think he's gonna give you a straight answer.:D Oh, and Graciela's price to play:eek:--very interesting.
If I'm the tailor to a cartel head, I'm sure as hell not gonna comment on his weight gain. Es stupido.
Has anyone been able to get or find any deals directly from Tivo or any other retailers?
I currently have two S3s which I want to replace with a Roamio Plus and a Mini (both with lifetime). One of my S3s has lifetime, the other has the grandfathered $6.99 MSD.
I've heard of some folks being able to get a $99 lifetime deal on existing S3s, which I could then use to bring up my MSD box and then turn around and sell it (with the other S3).
Guess I should just call Tivo directly to see what they offer, and if it's nothing good go with Weakness before their $25 off coupon expires...
Anywho, if you were able to get a deal from somewhere, post it here! Thx!
Many posts refer to the Roamio without telling us what model they are talking about so I would suggest the following abbreviations, (others can suggest other Abbreviations if you don't like what I am proposing)
Roamio basic with 4 tuners and a .5Tb drive TR-4
Roamio Plus with 6 tuners and a 1Tb drive TR-6
Roamio Pro with 6 tuners and a 3Tb drive TR-6P
