Just watched Mike and Molly (recital) saw what I thought was Tim Conway but was such a small part and no mention of him guesting wasn't sure looked on tv.com it was. I don't watch commercials were there any saying he would be on? Is odd such a small part for him.
How much do you all know about MoCa? My question is not really related to the moca functionality built into the tivo, but moca in general. The tivo is in my bedroom and my router is in the living room. I have no ethernet connection in the bedroom and am currently using powerline ethernet. It does OK most of the time but occasionally do get some hiccups when streaming due to the fact my building is really old and the electrical cable is not in real good shape. I was looking towards going wireless and was doing some reading and saw where it was mentioned that moca often times is a much better(and very overlooked) solution to both wireless and powerline. So I'm looking at moca for my internet connection to my tivo. So here's the question..... The coax cable going to my living room thats hooked to the cable modem and router is a single cable going all the way back to the apt buildings tap. The coax cable in the bedroom is also one single cable going directly back to the tap. If I put two moca adapters on these cables will they work considering they have to go thru the tap? Does the tap not affect the operation? I'm guessing not since I'm pretty sure the tap is just a simple hub for splitting up the trunk cable into different outputs but I thought I would make sure. Thanks!
We have seen the issue where the Series 3 Diagnostic screen can provide NO info, but hangs to a point of needing to pull the plug. However, I would have thought that the Premiere 4 and XL4 that I just got would not have that issue.
Well, the P4 is OK for now, but I just tried this on my XL4 and I get NO DATA. The Diagnostic screen does come up, but has no data. It has worked before. The one thing I do notice is that I can hit the left arrow and it comes back without pulling the plug, but I wonder if anyone else has seen this.
OH, this XL4 has not gotten the just released software yet, only my P4 has it
I have a S3 OLED unit with lifetime. Before I put it out of commission it was having trouble with CableCARD slot #2. Anything recorded from a premium channel on that card would be pixelated or partial. I tried swapping the two cards and re-pairing them but still effected slot #2. Looking around on here, and looking at the capacitors on the power supply, I'm pretty sure the cause is a bad power supply. I don't have the time or inclination to try and fix it so I just bought a new Premiere. Anyone here interested in taking it as-is for $200 + shipping?
I have the original box, manual and power cord. No remote or HDMI cable. If you're interested send me a PM.
I like Klaus the Hero much better than Klaus the Villan.
Bonnie's dead, but Jeremy is alive. Ugh.
Silas is Stefan's doppelganger, that should be fun.
And Katherine is human. Ha! How long until she gets someone to make her a vamp again?
I really like Matt and Rebekah together.
Was this the season finale?
Finally, someone ends up pregnant. I thought the series would end without that happening! :)
They keep showing us numbers from Hit List, and I'll be damned if I can figure out how it's all connected. Especially when the show has changed venues, etc, it all just seems like disconnected songs.
The season was probably in the can before the show was cancelled, so I wonder if "the end" will be a season-ending cliffhanger or a series-ending goodbye.
I think my Premiere (746320, upgraded to a 2TB HD, with lifetime) may have bit the bullet, but am not quite sure what is wrong with it. The TiVo is completely unresponsive; there are no lights on the front of the unit. Doing a hard reboot of the TiVo yields the same result, it doesn't even get to the first gray screen.
To give a little background, this particular TiVo had been having occasional (a few times a year) problems where I would hit the TiVo button to take it out of standby, and I would get no audio or video signal. All of the lights would light up on the front like normal, and you could see the flashing amber light on the unit in response to the remote, but no audio or video. Originally I would have to reboot the TiVo to get it out of this state. More recently I bought an iPad and I discovered that I could still connect to the TiVo through the iPad and if I browsed to a show on the iPad and tried to play it, then the TiVo would get unstuck and start playing the show and everything would be normal again.
I dont know if that is a precursor to the unit dying or not, but the TiVo did exhibit this behavior 1 day before it died completely. However, we also had a thunderstorm in the overnight hours on Wednesday night and there was one lightning strike which appeared to have been VERY close by. My TiVo is on an APC battery backup, but for power only, not the ethernet connection, nor the coax coming in from the antenna in the attic (I am OTA only). The rest of my AV setup in that room seems to be okay, although I will admit I have not tested every other component yet.
I opened up the TiVo to check the power supply and I didnt see any apparent bulging capacitors. I have a Series2 that I have replaced the power supply on and I have seen bulging capacitors in desktop computers before, and I have seen other pictures on how subtle the differences can be, so I think I know what I am looking for there (but I will readily admit I am not infallible). Is it possible the power supply can go bad without any apparent bad capacitors?
I also put the TiVo on a Kill-a-watt and noted that the TiVo is still powering the fan and the HD is still spinning up (I know a PS can be bad with both of those still being powered), and the TiVo was drawing 0.33 amps and between 19.6 and 19.8 watts. I dont know if that means anything, but I did grab that data.
If I did get a surge through the coax, then would that point to the motherboard being fried & possibly beyond repair?
It seems to me the best course of action would be to try a new PS first, and then if that doesnt work, to get it diagnosed by Weaknees? Any other ideas? Sorry for the long post!

We are likely moving overseas in the next few months. We are unsure of where we are going, so I am not sure what kind of TV we will have access to. I want to be prepared to stock up on a years worth of entertainment for me and my son. If I download a bunch of movies from Amazon to store on the Tivo, will we still be able to access them if we are overseas? My husband thinks that even after it is downloaded, it checks back with Amazon before it will play. I just thought it would be easier then buying a bunch of DVDs.
I just received my premiere xl4. I moved the cc from my premiere xl to the new xl4. I called my provider (cablevision) to bind the card to the new Tivo.
Tivo has been updating all day. And everything seems to be working. However I noticed one of the tuners does not seem to be authorized for cable channels.
It will tune to broadcast networks (nbc, cbs, abc etc) but any other cable channel throws the message this channel is not authorized.
I am using the live button to switch between the 4 tuners and the other 3 seem to have no problem tuning to any channel. But then the 1 continually behaves like the cable card is not activated.
Anybody seen behavior like this before?
Its not a tuning adapter issue as I don't use it (my cable has sdv but there are only a few channels on it so its not worth it).
From the beginning. A few months ago, I attempted to send a purchased episode of a cable show from amazon to my Tivo. First, amazon sends an email stating that the episode is available, I then log on to amazon. Alternately, I click on the link of the episode in the email which sends me straight to the page where I am able to choose which device to send the episode to (PC or Tivo DVR). I choose Tivo and it tells me that the episode will be downloaded to it. A few minutes later, the blue light on the front of my Tivo lights up and stays on for about 22 minutes while it downloads a 44 minute episode.
I digress. A few months ago, all the steps were done or followed except that the video never made it to my Tivo. I contacted Amazon.com in "chat" mode. They solved that by telling me to simply reboot my Tivo. Voila! That worked. A few days later and another episode download attempted, same thing. This time, rebooting once did not do it, so I rebooted again (probably not a good idea), but it worked. Great!
A third time, a couple of weeks later, same thing, no downloading. When rebooting didn't work, I contacted amazon again and they responded with something different. The had me check my internet speed (23Mbps), and then had me de-register my tivo from amazon.com, then re-register it. THAT worked. A couple of times more, same thing, except amazon also had to force the download from their end, which worked those two times.
This week is quite different. Reboots and de-registrations did not work. Enter amazon.com help. This time, they had me have my Tivo do a connect (Messages & Settings > Settings > Phone & Network > "Connect to the TiVo service now:). We tried that 3 times and each time, my Tivo successfully connected (over the internet). The rep then tried to force the download, but this time it didn't work. I now have 3 episodes (and a free movie provided by amazon) that won't download to my Tivo.
By the way. I dumped Cable TV almost a year ago and have enjoyed HD Antenna with the occasional downloads from Amazon.com, along with my Roku and Netflix streaming to fill in some of the missing blanks. Netflix and Roku works great and I can view any of my amazon.com library from the Roku in low def. Episodes downloaded from amazon in low def look fine and are much better quality than watching on Roku.
What worries me is that amazon.com may come back to tell me that there isn't a problem with them, but with my Tivo. I wouldn't know what to do about that. At this time, amazon says that they are looking into it. Add on: Amazon just announced that they signed a contract with (?) that will allow them to be the sole conveyors of certain shows for the next several years (for instant downloads). Some of those shows are about to become available once aired this summer.
Sorry for the huge post. I'm hoping there is a good solution out there.
I had it all figured out pretty early in the first hour. Irene was Moriarty; the big reveal would be the season cliffhanger; next season will be the big showdown between Sherlock and Moriarty.
Good thing they had a better idea! :D
I had a TiVo about six years ago and loved it - best GUI, best remote, best experience. :) But for various reasons I've been stuck using other DVRs since then. Now I'm ready to jump on the TiVo Premiere + Stream bundle and while I'm at it I also want to upgrade my home NAS. :)
In reading various threads around the Internet (that may have been two or three years old) I was starting to get the impression that Synology NAS's required modifications or hacks to work nicely with TiVo, whereas something like the Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra 2 Plus (RNDP200U-100NAS) was more "plug n play". But then coming to this site it seems lots of people are happy using their Synologys. (Perhaps these "hacks" people spoke of are simply installing pyTivo or something? I'm a python developer, so I expect setting up pyTivo will be a piece of cake for me.) Anyway, the Netgear model seems to be several years old and appears to be SATA 300, so that's kind of a deal-breaker in 2013.
So at this point I'm thinking I'll get the Premiere XL4 + Stream bundle (with lifetime service) and add the Synology DS213j (when it's released later this month) with a pair of Western Digital WD20EZRX (2TB) drives in RAID 1. Then I'll install pyTivo on the Synology. (btw, are there any other software packages I may also want to install?)
So does that seem reasonable? Before I drop this much cash, I just wanted to check with all you experts to make sure these seem like good hardware choices that will play nicely together. Any suggestions, advice, recommendations are welcome.
I live in Coral Springs, FL, and we have the worst cable company in the world. last year, we bought two Tivo Premieres for $99 each and the life-time buyout fee of $399 per machine. I love the Tivo interface, and the ability to share recordinsg across the network.
Rcently, our cable company ditched its analog channels permanently. all channels are digital now. We don't have a cable card nor use the cable provider's decoder box, we just buy the basic cable package plus extended cannels, for a total of about 99 channels( the lower 99).
we dont get any pay channels, but are fine with that.
one of the major problems with the changeover, was that the Tivo program guide doesn't match any of the new channels, even after running all updates and re-scanning all the channels. its been two months now, and still no correction. the channels are the "same' n the sense that lets say that channel 19 is the CW network, but channel 19 doesn't have any content on it, Channel 19-1 and 19-2 have the content( one is SD and the other is HD ).
this poses the problem where none of the programming matches the channels...
I was looking at DirectTV as an alternatve, and saw that they have a Tivo unit. My question is this: can i utilize my existing Tivo units on our TVs, and put the DirectTV Tivo unit on a 3rd TV, and have them all co-mingle together nicely, including sharing recordings across my home network? Or do I have to have directTV Tivo units on all TVs to decode the Direct TV signal?
Thanks for any advice/knowledge that you can give:)
Very happy Michael Scott was there. It was a very subdued appearance but I thought it was well done. It was fairly obvious when Jim said he couldn't be best man.
As an overall finale it was at ok.
Kind of a middling BBT episode, IMO. And as season finales go, well, not much of one, IMO.
But they FINALLY cured Raj of his affliction. And great! Not much more to say about that.
Kinda don't care about Leonard and Penny for some reason.
I'm amused by that fact that both Arrow and Supernatural had season finales titled "Sacrifice".
However, Oliver Queen, you have failed this city.
To be fair, I didn't see the second device coming either but Malcolm has been one step ahead for a while now so it's not a total stretch.
It looked to me like the second device didn't destroy all of the Glades but maybe half of it?
(Certainly the Arrow Lair was intact.)
Tommy, Tommy, Tommy. Well, I didn't see that death coming. And it was set up well.
I really enjoyed Colin Donnell's acting this episode for not only his death scene but his reaction to Malcolm playing his mother's voicemail.
And Diggle to the rescue!
I was a tad concerned that they might off Diggle when you consider how they seem to be playing up Roy (and it's also amusing that on last week's episode of Blue Bloods, David Ramsey's character
was shot and possibly crippled
Also nice to see Quinten be a hero too and I thought his goodbye to Laurel was heartfelt as well.
With all that was going on, it would have been easy to miss Oliver's first kill back on the island was Fyers.
So what happens next season?
Has anyone been able to get v3.0 of the Tivo iPhone/iPad app to work with the minis?
After upgrading they no longer appear in the Select DVR list.
I followed these instructions http://www.iphonefaq.org/archives/971543
to go back to the previous version of the app, and can now control them again from my iPhone.
