I'm a new TiVo adoptee and purchased two Premiere XL4's with lifetime service. That said, I'm having intermittent soft reboots sometimes as often as once/day on my family room Premiere and only a few times on my master bedroom Premiere (which is used a lot less). It never happens while simply watching live/recorded TV, but only when I'm interacting with it. I use the TiVo iPad app most of the time versus the remote (not sure if this has anything to do with it) and today I hit the TiVo button and heard the ding but the TiVo never opened up the page so I hit it again and all of the tuner lights illuminated briefly and the unit restarted unexpectedly and then I saw "Just a few more minutes..." Because both of my Premiere's have done this I'm hard pressed to believe it's a double hardware fault. Again, this only seems to happen when I interact with the TiVo. Tech support could only tell me that TiVo's will reboot to protect themselves - not sure from what in this case... My signal levels are perfect and both TiVo's are hardwired over gigabit with plenty of air ventilation and nothing above or below them. I'm hoping that TiVo keeps some sort of event logs which tech support could analyze. Anyone else seen this kind of behavior?
For those of us who do care. :)
Watching the red carpet show now (slightly behind live).
The segment with Michael Kors, Vera Wang, and the other designers talking about film costumes inspiring fashion was a lot of fun.
What's your favorite look so far?
Had my 500GB 4-tuner for just over 6 months but it has started to give some signs of hard drive issues. I've had 10-year old S1's with working original drives so this is unexpected. Anyone else seen issues this early? I'm tempted to pull the drive and copy it now but don't want to jeopardize my extended warranty.
For the last week when I watch a recorded program it would freeze for a second and restart. It only happen about 2 times in the 6 days. Is this a sign that some thing going to happen?
I've been using an HP MediaSmart EX480/WHS (Windows Home Server) to extend the size of my Series 3's storage space for several years now with great success.
Using the "HP MediaSmart Expander for TiVo" addin of the WHS console to auto-transfer episodes of a show as they air to the WHS, then transferring them back to the TiVo when I was ready to watch the entire season(s) has made managing my S3's limited space doable (as well as letting me record new shows on 'speculation' and then waiting to see if they get good reviews or if the network ends up Firefly
This method has worked really well for me for me for some time now... but the file transfers have suddenly stopped working, with the "File Transfer Status" tab showing all transfers with a red "X" and the red error message "Cannot contact TiVo DVR, please check that it is powered-on is connected to the network. If problems persist, please consult the documentation.
" in the info block when you select one of the failed transfers.
Since just about every element making up this very
useful system has been deprecated by it's maker (HP gave up on the MediaSmart line... Microsoft has taken the WHS OS in a different direction, and as for the TiVo corporation... <grrr>... don't get me started, since they still
refuse to put sufficiently large hard drives in even their top-of-the-line models!), I'm kinda stuck trying to figure out the problem myself.
The only changes in any portion of my setup prior to this problem was caused by having to go back to my old router for wired networking, while changing the 'new' router to only function for wireless networking. This change occurred a week or so before the transfers began failing, so I doubt it has anything to do with the failed transfers, but I can't think of any other potential root cause. Both WHS and S3 are hard-wired through the same gigabit switch.
Other random points about my current setup:
- The "Files on TiVo DVRs" tab of the HP Expander addin is still being updated with new shows from my S3.
- The S3 hasn't shown any issues (any new ones at any rate <grin>).
- I am still able to use my S3 to transfer and play content that was previously transferred to the WHS.
Things I've already tried, unsuccessfully to fix the problem:
- Rebooted both WHS and S3 multiple times, including after each of the following changes.
- Changed which network ports (and even which switch) the S3 and WHS are plugged into.
- Significantly reduced the amount of video currently stored on the WHS (thinking I might have run into a previously unknown limit).
- Uninstalled and reinstalled the HP MediaSmart Expander addin.
Anyone have any suggestions for other things I should try, before I have to start taking more extreme measures (like trying to pick up one of those problematic drive extenders) to avoid running out of space?
Very cool episode. Loved seeing the Reagan shooting from the perspectives of all the different parties who knew nothing at the time. We have known for so long that Hinkley was just obsessed with Jodie Foster that we forget that the U.S. thought he might have been a Russian agent.
The whole Al Haig claiming he was in charge has always been a joke and he has always seemed like a buffoon for saying it, so I never considered the Russians might have seriously thought a coup was happening in the U.S. That was very interesting!
I always wonder what Jodie Foster feels about the shooting.
This just started happening after the latest software upgrade.
While fast forwarding through commercials an unexpected skip of 10+ minutes occurs.
Sometimes it skips all the way to the end of the show and then I have to back up and figure out where I was.
TIVO guys, c'mon! I've been a loyal TIVO customer since 2000! I don't buy Apple products. Period. Ever. Help me and other friends of TIVO who don't buy Apple out here. Where's our Stream for Android?!
I thought it might be fun for those of us that are outside of the 18 to 49 demographic all the shows are shooting for to have a place to come and voice our opinions (in more colloquial terms, bitch about).
I'll start. For the most part, the newer sitcoms suck. They're all trying to be Friends, which they're not, by any stretch of the imagination.
Oh, and we can also discuss what we like. IMO Downton Abbey is one of the most compelling programs I've watched in years. I can't wait to see what's going to happen next season.
I'm new to Tivo and have a few questions.
I'm thinking about downgrading to this "Comcast Blast Plus" package using a Tivo Premiere. Is it possible to get this package for the listed $79 plus tax?
Is this Blast package charged a HD access fee?
Does the Tivo require any kind of Digital or STD adapter box with this package.
Thanks for the help!
The details of the Blast Package:
Requires subscription to Blast Plus with Digital Economy TV service and Blast!® Internet service. Pricing subject to change. TV and Internet service limited to a single outlet. Equipment, installation, taxes and franchise fees extra. TV: Basic service subscription required to receive other levels of service.
I want to take a bunch of framed family photos and put then up the stairwell in a nice pattern.
So, nails or hooks aren't really a good solution. I may go with a number of picture shelves, but that's not quite the look I'm going for. Is there a sticky solution that would allow for repositioning, that would not mar the paint, and that would hold the weight of a larger photo in frame?
I am not handy! So if I had tools, time and talent I could probably make a mounting deal, but I have very little of any t,t, or t.
I have 2 Premiers and an XL all with Lifetime subscription. For the sake of the discussion, I will refer to them as "Family Room", "Bedroom", and "Basement". They are all hardwired to my network and they can see one another. Each TiVo can see the others when viewed thru "My Shows". I can see what is recorded on the others as well.
When I try to view something on the "Family Room" TiVo that is recorded on either the Basement or the Bedroom, it never comes thru and just goes back to the menu.
When I try to view something on the Basement TiVo that is recorded on the Bedroom, it never comes thru and just goes back to the menu. But when I try to view something that is recorded on the Family Room, it comes thru fine.
From the Bedroom, I can view things recorded on the "Family Room" or the Basement.
From the Basement or Bedroom TiVos, when I view Multi-Room Viewing Advanced Help, it shows the "Family Room" TiVo connected via MoCA. I do not have a MoCA so not sure why it is saying that.
Any ideas what is going on? I have tried restarting but that did not help.
OK, I installed a new drive that I installed a new image on, all seemed good, it was working and I was watching tv but the recorder has rebooted randomly several times so I thought I would try checking with kickstart, I hold pause when light turns amber and when second light turns amber I enter a code, tried several like 54, 57, and the screen flases like it is going to the kickstart page but then just reboots? Any ideas? It is a philips series 1 with lifetime service. HDR112
I have a DirecTv HR34, and the following boolen search picks up all the Nascar races: AALL NASCAR NNOT PRACTICE QUALIFYING
I programmed the same thing into the Tivo, and it is recording all sorts of stuff like Nascar live on speed, but is missing the races.
Does anyone have a boolen wishlist search set up that will catch all the Nascar (Sprint, Nationwide, and Truck) races, without recording all the practice, qualifying and other non-race shows?
Just a quick question here..
I have Lifetime THD's (652160) with 1TB upgrades. I will sell these when TIVO has their next Premiere 4 deal. :-)
Anyway, does anyone have any idea why they go for about $350 on eBAY and less than $100 on a local, in my case Portland, Craigslist for sale site?
It seems that eBAY is about $350 and Crtaigslist is about $100. It seems to me that the Craigslist site would be the same or even more as a person could come see the unit before they buy. I mean you can list the condition as a 10 on Craigslist and the potential buyer would only be out some gas if he saw it and it was not as advertised.
I just finally bought a TiVo Stream. Set up just fine and allows me to stream shows from any of my 3 TiVo Premiere units onto my iPad and iPhone while in the house.
But apparently not all iOS devices are supported because I can't AirPlay to an Apple TV3 box. Why not? And from a search, the lightning to HDMI adapter won't work either. To me, this sucks because I have a TV in the kitchen that does not have a TiVo box connected, but has a little Apple TV mounted to the back. I'd really like to also watch TiVo shows in there via my iPad or iPhone AirPlay connected to it (or worst-case HDMI).
Seems like their software makes this a limited device that may lead me to decide to return it to Best Buy. Otherwise for the iPad/iPhone, it seems to work as advertised. Just very limited!
Can I view shows I've transferred from my Tivo to my computer through Desktop on my Tivo again, if I've deleted those shows from my Tivo? If so, where do I find those on my Tivo?
Also, can HD shows that have been transferred be seen again in HD?
Being confused is a normal state for me, so this is not that unusual.
But, I am trying to wrap my head around the "bridge" devices and how I can connect my S3 and Premier to communicate with my wireless router. Right now I am using a Tivo N adapter on my Premiere and a Tivo G adapter on my S3. I am going to purchase a new Premiere unit and also hook it up to the existing network (somehow) and don't really want to shell out another $90 for an N adapter.
I have gathered that hard wiring the DVR's to my router is the preferred setup, but routing the ethernet cables will be problematical due to the distances and home architecture layout. I have done a bit of research into the MOCA system, but am not convinced it's the way to go for me (but my mind can be changed).
Can someone explain the "bridge" system to me? A diagram would be most helpful.
Thanks in advance. You folks here on TC are the best :)
Just recently file transfers have started to fail. I select "Pick Recordings to Transfer". Check the box for a Masterpiece Theater Classic...Downton Abbey Season 3, and after a few seconds the transfer status window indicates "The system cannot find the file specified". The file is on the TIVO. In fact I cannot transfer any files. All transfers fail in the same fashion. This has just started happening. I have successfully transferred hundreds of files to my PC prior to this.
