I am trying to set up so I can cancel DirectTV and use a NEOTV box for Netflix/Hulo+ and all the other stuff on the net. However I still want to record my local channels that I get to my Sony Bravia HD TV.
I have read (I think) all the threads about setting up a TIVO to receive OTA digital broadcases via a Digital to Analog converter box or an old VOOM box.
I have a Series 2 dual tuner and an older Series 2.
To date I have tried the following...
Using the Series 2 Dual Tuner:
With the Series DT and selecting Satellite, the voom box worked great but it kept rebooting..I guess its bad.
I then substituted an old Directv HD receiver that I was no longer using. It has input for digital tv input, but I could not get past the boot up screen for the box because it said it had an invalid card? Card was good when I de-avtiveated it.
I then substituted an old Hughes Box but no matter how I tried I could not get the TIVO to change Channels even tho I told it the satellite receiver brand was a Hughes?
Lastly I substituted an APEX D to A converter box between OTA antenna and the TIVO. Then I learned that the series 2 does NOT have the option for setting up with Antenna Only.
Note: completely re-configuring TIVO each time. Took forever!
Using the Older Series 2 TIVO:
Configured with Antenna Only using the APEX brand box. It works, BUT, the box only finds about 25 of the local channels? Multiple scans at different time of day .. no fun. If I connect the OTA antenna to my Sony Bravia HD TV It finds ALL the local channels...about 45 of them. (Orlando FL).
I did read that you could use the Series 2 with Converter Box of you selected a Satellite Brand that used same codes as the converter box. Found that APEX was supposedly a Hughes.. but that didnt work for me?
Beyond getting a different brand Digital to Analog converer box doe anyone have any other ideas?
Ever since the Fall update, we've had numerous problems with our Premier,
ESPECIALLY regarding the 30 min CACHE:
1) If you hit record on a live show and are behind a bit, Tivo will jump to the end of your show when it's done recording....leaving you to have to go find your once "live" show in the playlist and then find where you left off.
If your watching-while-recording sports, you get jumped to the end of the game....Tivo used to seamlessly deliver you from the live recording end to the beginning of the cache of the next live show!?
2) We used to be able to watch live tv a half hour behind (using cache) even if it needs to record another show in the next hour. Now, we lose the show we are watching (it dumps the cache) and it jumps to the next show in progress.
Now you have to hit record on everything just in case you want to finish the show before it turns the tuner.
3) We used to be able to hit record and grab a few minutes of the previous show, even if it's gone into the next hour. So if you see something you'd like to capture at 9:50, you could still hit record and Tivo will record that PLUS the ten o'clock show after it. Not anymore. Now it dumps the cache and jumps forward.
Been told by Tivo to restart and run tests. No help.
If they replace it, I wonder if we'll just have the same issues.
It all started after the UPDATE.
Is the ToDo list a "Premiere only" function? When I try to connect to either of my Tivo HD's all I get is the "Waiting" screen.
The current Time Warner promotion in my area is a $150 Best Buy gift card for switching to their bundled package. Around Christmas the promotion was the same gift card plus a Microsoft XBox.
I've decided to switch from my local cable co to TWC but figure I should time the switch such to maximize my promotion. Anyone watch their promotions close enough to know if the current $150 is typical/good/bad??
I have been a Tivo customer for a LONG time back to the first series 2 single tuner DVR, but now have a Series 3, and a Tivo HD. I am paying about $13 for one of them and $7 for the second one.
I would like to replace the Series 3 with a Premiere XL4, and want to know my options. Can I just replace the Series 3 online with the Premiere and keep the same monthly pricing?
I see that this DVR is available online and in store (Best Buy) for $350 ($50 off) right now, and I would love to have 4 tuners at my disposal on one device.
Is this an option?
i FF thru a show to see how bad the football overrun was then got to the start of the show, i paused
then went to myshows and started another program which i fell asleep to
when i got up, i noticed the machine was paused back on the 1st show
how did it do that?
Under normal circumstances, when one relocates and changes providers Season Passes are supposed to automatically realign themselves with your new channel lineup when you repeat the Channel Lineups portion of the Guided Setup process.
This didn't happen (with a few exceptions) when we just switched to Brighthouse. I suspect it's something to do with this weird tuning adapter thingie we're now compelled to use. The SPs say (example) channel #107, when in reality the show is on #1007 - so it doesn't see it.
I brute force manually recorded the shows last night that were supposed to be SPs, but this will not do. Any way to rectify this other than deleting all season passes and adding them back in one by one?
Hopefully this fixes all the stream problems I've been having.

For the past few months I've been getting Emergency Broadcast System tests every single day, at all hours of the day, on all channels. It starting to get annoying because about 50% of my recordings have Emergency Broadcast System test. Last night in the middle of a HBO movie I get a 30 second Emergency Broadcast System test. The worst was this weekend during the NFL playoff game with Seahawks vs 49s, they decided to have a test. If they want to tick people off, right in the middle of NFL play game is truly the best day\time.
OK I get it, they need to test the system, but they are testing it so much it is like Chicken Little declaring the sky is falling several times a day, if there is a actual Emergency, people are going to blow it off as just another annoying test.
I have a Tivo Premiere, Mac Mini running OSX10.8.2 and pyTivoX v1.3. Despite downloading 720p clips, after transferring them to the Tivo, I loose a lot of quality - what am I doing wrong?
I'm not at all sure what hdd to look for so I figured I'd check with the experts;)
I did get an adapter for Pata to Sata...I could use(once I find it!) Aren't the sata more efficient on power, I remember reading how power supplies do fail..? Not at all sure what chipset the adapter has? I just wanta get it done...since 1997! haha
Interesting little show...well first episode that is. It's already aired in Canada. I caught it before Being Human's season debut tonight.
I was using TiVo A in the living room, going through the on-screen guide, and I hit record, when it reported conflicts, which puzzled me because nothing else was scheduled at that time, until I looked at the top of the screen and it was attempting to schedule the recording on TiVo B in the other room.
I couldn't figure out why, nor did I know you could do that. Then I remembered earlier in the day I had been watching on TiVo A a recorded program streaming from TiVo B's queue. Out of curiosity, on TiVo A, I pressed Now Playing, and the highlight was on TiVo B at the bottom of the list.
I pressed Live TV, viewed the on-screen guide again, pressed record again, and it was still trying to record the show on TiVo B.
The only way to get TiVo A to record the program on TiVo A was to start playing a program in TiVo A's queue, stop it, and then try to schedule the recording from the on-screen guide again. That time it worked.
Is this normal, or a bug?
P.S. FYI, both TiVos are Premieres purchased in 2012, connected by Ethernet cables to a Cisco router with the latest software update (20.2.2-01-2).
Lo and Behold, look what showed up on my Now Playing last night.
Nice to see you again Hank.
I lost interest towards the last few eps last season, and it continues to look grim for my favorite T.V. bad boy, but I will go along for a few eps to see what they got.
Is there a new show On Showtime they are attempting to tandem with this? Now that Episodes will not return ti 2014, what is a girl to do?
OK. Who else is watching? Admit it!! It's OK.
Many of you know I am a sucker for just about any sort of teen/adult drama. And even more so fore period pieces set in the 1980s. Loving the fashion and music here.
I know very little about the Carrie Bradshaw character, apart from knowing she is a character from the popular TV series Sex in the City. I never watched that show.
The actress playing young Carrie is adorably cute.
Hi there - I am a very early tivo adapter from the 2003-2007 era. I cancelled my subscription around 2007 when I decided tv was no longer worth paying for, and haven't had any cable or satellite since then.
Well, I just had cable installed yesterday and I have a promo with free dvr service through Charter for 12 months. As awesome as it is to have a dvr again for the first time in years, its functionality is completely underwhelming to me compared to what I used to be able to do with tivo.
If at some point I was to switch back to tivo, I was wondering what the difference is with the tivo boxes & service then vs. now?
The boxes seem to be much less expensive - I don't want to mention what I paid for my first box that I bought back in the day. Is there anywhere I can go that would describe the differences of how the technology has changed or improved over the years?
Using TiVo Transfer within Toast 11 on my Mac, was having difficulty listing programs residing on my DVR through my home wireless network. TiVo/and Toast/TiVo transfer has been working flawlessly for more than several years, until a couple weeks ago when the 'no listing of programs' problem started. Rebooting the Mac seemed to restore program listing.
Earlier guidance on the Forum suggested reboot the DVR. I unplugged the DVR for 5-10 minutes, then plugged back in. TiVo gives me the Welcome! Powering up... screen, screen goes dark, then the Almost there. Just a few minutes more.... screen, screen goes dark, then back to Welcome! Powering up... screen, etc.
One time, I got the THx screen, then the menu; I selected Live TV, and then back to Welcome! Powering up... screen.
Any thoughts on what the problem might be?
I don't think I've ever seen a television episode as revolting as this one.
Anyone watch this?
