Multiple TV on one tivo?

Sun, 01/20/2013 - 11:38
Premiere XL on Charter Cable. I am feeding my SD tv with the composite (R-W-Y) cable from the tivo A/V output.

If I attach a HD tv using hdmi to the tivo will it feed signals to both TV's?

Thanks, Jon

Missing Channels - Charter

Sun, 01/20/2013 - 11:05
Premier - Charter with Tuning Adapter(TA) and CableCard.

I was receiving all my subscribed channels last week. This week a few HD channels show the screen that it is searching for a signal. On one of the channels I happened to see a weak signal come and go (pixelated for a few seconds then 0 signal, repeat a few times.)

I have used both tuners to test signal under the TA, DVD Diagnostics screen and neither tuner sees a good signal.

The DVR and TA have been power cycled and Charter has sent a reset to the TA. The truck should be here this afternoon.

Is there any chance this is a TiVo issue and not a Charter problem? What issue/how should I check for TiVo issues?

Possible to Transfer Shows from an S3 to a XL4?

Sun, 01/20/2013 - 08:29
Against my better judgment, I'm considering upgrading to a XL4. If I bought one, would I be able to transfer my shows on the S3 to the XL4 over my home network? I would do this before selling the S3. And does it require going through the Tivo Desktop software as an intermediary? Thanks.

TivoDesktopPlus won't install

Sun, 01/20/2013 - 01:16
I've had TivoDesktop 2.8.3 for quite a while. (Windows 7) Today I purchased the code for the upgrade to Desktop Plus. However, when I go to help/purchase upgrade/and enter the code, I get the message, "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable." ... "enter a path to a folder containing the installation package TiVoDesktop2.8.3.msi".
I cannot find any file with that name. The installation package for 2.8.3 is TivoDesktop2.8.3.exe - NOT .msi

I have re-downloaded Tivo Desktop and reinstalled to no avail. Now what?

BTW - by default, it's looking for the .msi file in C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Temp\ - I hope it doesn't expect anything in a TEMP folder to stay around forever!

Moving Content To TiVo

Sat, 01/19/2013 - 22:49
I'm interested in taking the decrypted DVDs that I have and using TiVo Desktop Plus / pyTivo / kmttg to either serve up to my Premier or to transfer to my Premier. This looks like a much easier model than swapping my TV's input back and forth to my DVD player.

My question is should I transcode the DVD mpegs and, if so, to what?

I know how to consolidate the VOB files. I have VideoReDo and Handbrake.

MRS error: can't watch now

Sat, 01/19/2013 - 22:42
I have a Premiere and an XL4. The XL4 is using MOCA directly and the Premiere has a MOCA adapter on it.

MRS was working great with no problems.

My wireless router died so I got a Netgear WNDR4500 to replace it.

Ever since I got it about 75% of the time when I initiate the MRS from the Premiere it fails with an error of "can't watch now" and then the Premiere locks up completely and will not respond to the remote or app commands. I have to pull the plug and reboot it.

And then MRS will work fine for a while as long as we are watching shows.

It is obviously something with the new router but I cannot find any settings that seem to fix it.

Any ideas?

HD to XL4 + 3 Premieres: MoCA question

Sat, 01/19/2013 - 21:23
Hi All,

First, TiVo is priority one for my TV. When DirecTV stopped supporting them years ago, I dumped a 12 year relationship with them and switched to Comcast. TiVo is the sine qua non of TV. There is no substitute.

That said, since moving to Comcast on TiVo HD units, I've had a couple pet peeves. Being booted off live TV for two kids' TV shows to record is one, and the ridiculously slow (slower than real time) speed at which things transfer between units and the TiVo Desktop is the other.

With the sale just started, I finally am biting the bullet. Tivo Premieres around the house it is. But that leads me to a question regarding networking.

The XL4 that will be the centerpiece is wired Ethernet. It will be the only 4-tuner unit. The 75 hour, 2 tuner Premiere that will be in the basement is also hard-wire Ethernet. Two upstairs bedrooms will have Premieres do NOT have Ethernet, and no way to get it. I'll have to go the MoCA route to make that work.

So, the question is, do I need to put the two units that are hard-wired to Ethernet on a MoCA adapter as well? I don't see how the data can get off the XL4 and onto the MoCA (coax) network in the first place.

The TiVo site says if it is an XL4, you don't need MoCA, so perhaps it will sense when there's MoCA talk on the coax and just deal with it.... but what about the one in the basement? It is a 2-tuner Premiere, and I'm presuming it will need a MoCA adapter if it wants to reach the XL4 or the bedroom units.

I will also have two WIRED PlayStation3 units (one each at the site of the wired TiVo units, each on the same hub).

So, if I understand correctly, I need 3 MoCA adapters, one each for the non-XL4 units, whereas the XL4 will act as a bridge.

Or, if there is a TiVo God of Serendipity, the fact that I have an XL4 acting as a bridge could mean I don't need ANY MoCA adapters?

Thanks for helping set me straight.

We have been stuck on "getting info" for almost 3 hours. We are connected wireless to cable with TIVO Premiere. Should we hang in there or reboot?

dialog audio too low on Tivo Desktop recordings

Sat, 01/19/2013 - 19:13
I have Tivo Desktop Plus v2.8.3 running on my laptop with Windows XP. Playback of shows downloaded from my S3 have perfect sound on commercials, but during the shows, the dialog audio levels are super low while the "background" audio (laugh track, music, ambient sounds) are normal. I can't turn the volume up high enough to make the dialog discernible.

I've adjusted my laptop audio settings 9 ways from Sunday with no improvement. I tried the same show on my Windows 7 Desktop and the sound is fine. Is this a codec issue?

I ran ggieseke's TivoDesktopCodecMgr tool. The graph shows AC3 in to MainConcept Dolby Digital Audio Decoder, then to Tivo PCM Boost before going to Default DirectSound Device.

Is there a setting on my Tivo that needs to change?

Thanks for any assistance.

premire xl4 and cisco ta 1520 problems

Sat, 01/19/2013 - 17:45
it seems that cisco ta 1520 only allows 2 tuners. so if have a premire xl4 with 4 tuners you(like me) are in trouble til another update from cisco comes out. Cablevision told me they have no other boxes they are planning on using

3 month old XL4 goes dark

Sat, 01/19/2013 - 17:12
Yesterday my XL4 rebooted itself while I was watching a recorded show. Things were normal after that until a little less than 24 hours later when the recorded show I was watching went dark. I switched to live TV - also dark with a no signal message, other channels dark, other recorded shows dark.
What went wrong with my Tivo?

TV Land, Syndicated Shows - HD Question

Sat, 01/19/2013 - 16:34
Here's what may be a stupid question - I"ve been watching syndicated reruns like Roseanne, Cosby Show, etc. on TV Land HD. They play 4:3 on my HDTV.

Are these shows actually broadcast in HD or would it be the same if I recorded them on the standard channel and not waste the HD recording space, or is the picture quality actually better?

Works?

Season Pass List

Sat, 01/19/2013 - 14:25
I did a search for "Season Pass" in thread titles, went back several pages, and was surprised that there was not a thread for people's Season Pass lists (easy enough to copy into Excel or similar program from the TiVo website Season Pass manager, clean it up, and post here).

I know I'd find it interesting to see what other's season pass lists look like, and perhaps discover new shows where someone has a lot of crossover with my own list. And of course, if you're worried about privacy, you don't have to post here. ;)

Since there wasn't a thread about this that I could find, I had to make a best guess as to what forum it best fit in. "TV Show Talk" seemed to make the most sense, but feel free to (gently) guide me elsewhere if I was wrong. Or for that matter, to guide me to an already-existing thread if you happen to know that there was one. Thanks!

With all that out of the way, here's my list. "Fringe" was just removed, considering that the last episode aired last night, and "Continuum" is still on the list solely because my wife liked it. I had a hard time because I was continually rooting against the protagonist throughout the pilot. Come to think of it, "Grimm" is also on the list due to my wife. Note that these are not in any particular order, especially now that I have a 4-tuner TiVo.

:)Hi All!

I am a brand new TiVo owner, having bought a Premiere 4 last weekend. I wanted the Premiere 4XL (mainly for the recording space), but my Best Buy didn't have one, so I got the Premiere 4. I have a DVR expander, so I do have lots of room, but I am wondering if I should have looked harder to find an XL... I have an old TV (no flat screen or HD or anything special), and don't have any plans to replace it. Any thoughts?

Help with Dead Tivo HD

Sat, 01/19/2013 - 10:38
Hi

I would like some advice on repairing my Lifetime Tivo HD (1.5TB drive upgrade). After a recent power failure, the Tivo would not boot. Symptoms are:

1. No Video on HDMI or composite outputs
2. Hard drive spins up; i can hear the head seeking
3. Fan is on
4. Green and Yellow lights on Ethernet connector light up but do not blink; Et
5. Cable cards removed
6. Only power and video connected (no e-net or cable connection)
7. Power supply voltages OK but a little low; 12V supply was 11.5V

Based on the above, I purchased a replacement power supply from Weaknees.

After power supply was installed, no change in results. Any ideas on next troubleshooting steps?

FYI I am an EE so I can handle complex instrcutions but I only have a DVM.

Thanks

DirecTV GENIE and TiVo the same??

Sat, 01/19/2013 - 08:58
I was at Best Buy yesterday, where a DirecTV salesman was trying to sell me on DirecTV. I said that if I went for it, I want the TiVo option. So after calling his manager about getting TiVo over Genie, he got off the phone and stated that, in fact, Genie's software is based/licensed from TiVo and it's the same thing.

This didn't make sense to me, since if you go to the DirecTV website as of this writing, you can either get the Genie DVR OR the TiVo. If that was true, why have two competing products?

If it is true, when did this take place? Anyone know for sure?

It sounded more like a salesman telling me anything I wanted to hear in order to get me into a 2-year contract.

No picture either tivo

Sat, 01/19/2013 - 08:50
I have two tivos hooked up to the same tv, but can not get a picture using either tivo.
I am getting a picture using the DVD player.
Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Rebooting started again

Sat, 01/19/2013 - 07:58
I was one of the customers affected by the frequent reboots that was supposed to be fixed. It did appear to be fixed for several days, but they started again a few weeks ago and while they are not nearly as frequent now, they still reboot fairly often. I wonder if anyone else is experiencing this? This is happening on more than one unit so I doubt it is the equipment.
