American Idol - Top 3 Results 05/09/13 - Videos for those who gave up this year

Thu, 05/09/2013 - 20:44
I am very happy right now that the two contestants I started rooting for in the top 10 have made if to the final 2. America and I finally see eye to eye.

Here they are for the benefit of those who stopped watching this year. No guy with guitar this year.

Candace Glover Top 10 Performance - I Who Have Nothing

Kree Harrison Top 10 Performance - Crying

Kree Harrison Top 3 Performance - Here Comes Goodbye

Candace Glover Top 3 Performance - Somewhere

The return of Jack Bauer? Hopefully.

I read that made me smile I really hope it happens. Especially as a limited run with less episodes. Damn it we need this to happen.

What should I be watching out for?

Thu, 05/09/2013 - 19:11

I am about to take the plunge for a Mini. What should I be watching out for?

Our home has effectively one TV in the family room. Each of three boys has a TV in their room for video games. Every kid's bedroom, the home office and family room is wired with a 24 port 10/100 switch with gibabit fiber backhaul to the server rack, so network bandwidth "should" be ok. The only coax we have in the house goes straight into the family room.

One son just loves live sports, sometimes causing contention for the Tivo in the family room. We have looked at having our house drilled and coax pulled into his room, plus cable box, but I am not too keen on that idea. We saw the Mini and figured this might be the perfect solution, not just for him, but for all of the kids.

We all enjoy Netflix and Comcast on-demand. We enjoy watching shows on the server, served up via Streambaby and PyTivo. We enjoy watching family videos the same way and also perusing pictures from the server. We also enjoy some audio stored on the server. If we get a Mini for my son's room, what issues are likely to arise? I can already see that the other two boys might also want a Mini.

How much bandwidth do they consume? Is the thin-client Tivo experience similar to sitting "on the console" of the XL4? It seems that direct use of Streambaby will be gone, as well as Netflix. Maybe Xfinity will work; I am not too sure. I can't decide from the posts if multiple Minis will or won't work on a single XL4, or if each mini will grab a dedicated tuner.

If we do install a mini in my son's room, what about the experience might be disappointing?

Many thanks,

Randy Jackson officially leaving American Idol after this season

Thu, 05/09/2013 - 18:08
I know it was mentioned in the AI thread for this week, but if anyone is like me, they might not be following the weekly threads.

Quote: "Yo! Yo! Yo! To put all of the speculation to the rest, after 12 years of judging on American Idol I have decided it is time to leave after this season," he says. "I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry." http://www.eonline.com/news/416905/r...-american-idol

If rumors are true, the entire rest of the judging team, as well as the producers of American Idol, will also be leaving, and major changes to the show are planned for next season.

Second Tivo Premiere

Thu, 05/09/2013 - 18:05
I have two questions:
1. Is there a search function on this Forum?
2. If I buy a second Tivo for another room do I need to pay an extra monthly charge? My intent is simply to view the Tivo I now have in another room. If there is another way to do this, what is it?

Motive on ABC uses original Canadian air dates

Thu, 05/09/2013 - 16:43
Motive begins on May 20th and is now in the guide, but it's using the original Canadian OAD's so you'll need to set your SP or ARWL to record repeats

KMTTG fails to trasfer in batch mode (command line)

Thu, 05/09/2013 - 16:04
I have an issue with KMTTG. Every time I attempt to transfer shows off of my TiVo, it will stop at "RUNNING 'REMOTE NP List' JOB FOR TiVo: DVR-7775" and will eventually tell me "ERROR: RemoteInit - (IP=, port=1413): Read timed out" The weird thing is that if I run this program in GUI mode, it has no problems downloading shows. I'm wanting to get this setup because this is on a headless server, in which I'd rather not use a GUI through VNC and I'd want to schedule this program to execute. I've tried Google, but it doesn't seem like anyone else has this problem.

NBC renews 'Parks and Rec' and orders other new series

I am excited about the Rand Ravich show Crisis. I really loved "Life" and was hoping he would have a new show.

Arrow - S01E23 - "Darkness On the Edge Of Town"

Thu, 05/09/2013 - 13:59
Well, Ollie, that's certainly a fine mess you've gotten yourself into.

Malcolm Merlyn's been one step ahead of you all this time and he whupped you good to boot.
(And have you thought about investing in a real mask?)

As expected, the device created by Dr. Brion Markov creates earthquakes.

And I'm willing to bet that Spoiler: Malcolm will run it through the old subway tunnels to set it off.

I did like Felicity at Merlyn Global though and Diggle's method of rescuing her.
(Although him having a job there was a tad convenient now, wasn't it?)
(And a "teraflop of data"?)

And back on the island, can Ollie prevent Fyers from downing that Ferris Air jet?
(And if Yao Fei is dead, who continues to teach Ollie how to be a baddass? Slade?)

Tommy, Tommy, Tommy. You can just see the darkness rising in him.

All in all, setting up nicely for the season finale.

Real World: Portland - Full Season

Thu, 05/09/2013 - 12:47
Nia, who apparently prefers to argue when she is wearing just a bra and panties, has added some pretty amusing drama to this season. As in all recent seasons, it's hard to like any of these people, but I felt a little bit bad for Jordan when Nia clearly provoked him over and over again until she got a reaction out of him. Her one-sided recollection of the night was too much. I would think what she did, pushing him hard in the face, would have been enough to get her kicked off the show, but I'm glad that didn't happen.

Program Data Will Run Out

Thu, 05/09/2013 - 12:10
I reviewed all the posts on this subject and they're pretty old.
Is anyone still dealing with this issue?
When I spoke to support today, they said noone else is having this problem.
Series 3 - connects sucessfully every day - cox cable w/TA
Got the message "program data will run out......"
I didn't believe it because I could see data way past that date.
After that date, the data was only there when looking at the directory on live tv. Search function wouldn't show anything.
Repeated the complete guided setup and message went away for a few weeks then came back.
Went in and reset the zip code (only takes a few hours to download instead of all day with new guided setup) and message went away for a few days. Now it's back again.
TIVO says to connect to the service twice in a row then restart so I'll give that a try.
The tech says noone else is calling with this problem so if others are maybe we should start calling and calling.

Your Thoughts on TiVo Mini as a Whole House TV solution?

Thu, 05/09/2013 - 08:50
Goal: Using TiVo(s) (or Cable boxes) in central closet to watch TV's in different rooms.
The original premise above was to gather all the boxes in a centralized location.
But with the introduction of the low profile TiVo Mini over ethernet & MoCA Coax - I can basically deliver live & recorded TV to at least 2 additional location above the main 4 tuner TiVo Premiere XL4- with not additional cabling.

In short, the goal is to allow TV in each room to have it's own tuner & TiVo watching ability but negate additional cabling & minimize monthly Comcast fees.

  • TV locations: 1 MBR, 1 Kitchen, 1 family room, 1 upstairs bedroom, 1 Loft
  • One 4-tuner TiVo XL4 - tuners would share Live TV & record simultaneously upto 3 TV location above
  • One 2-tuner TiVo Premiere that could be split (ie both TV watch the same thing) with any 2 location above
  • House has Coax & Cat6 @ each above location - so TiVo signal can come come over via MOCA (coax) or Ethernet (Cat6)
  • BluRay & Amp only need to be dedicated only to Family room - not distributed

Costs Comps:
This setup all with TiVo Lifetime service: (1) PXL4 = $750 + (2) TiVo Mini = $500 + (1) TiVo PXL = $500 = $1750 out of pocket

Comcast fees*: 1 AnyRoom DVR** = $20/mon + (4) Set Top Boxes = $50/mon = $70/mon***
* Estimates since they don't make it easy to tell
**Not available in all areas.
*** Does not include additional cabling upgrades to put all the boxes in one place with HDMI switchers &/or HDMI extenders ~ $1000

  1. How would IR & RF work to control the TiVo Mini's that would be mounted behind the secondary wall hung TV's?
  2. What am I missing in my quest for whole house TV watching?
  3. Is this a cost effective solution? based on above - my out of pocket cost = $1750 vs. $70/mon for Comcast box fees+ Switcher & cabling = payback period of 11 months.

Unable to have two SDV channels tunned at the same time?

Wed, 05/08/2013 - 22:28
After a recent outage with timewarner it seems my Tivo is no longer able to tune two SDV channels at the same time. I have had the cable card replaced a couple of times. I am now suspecting the tuning adapter but getting frustrated with the process. Anyone else have this issue? Any solutions?

I have a series 3 hdvr Thanks,

All TiVo reps are NOT created equal.

We have a TiVo stuck on a startup loop. Been there done that six months ago, got the replacement.

Now, I'm sure they get a lot of inept people calling, but seriously, you can see we've been customers since 2001 so maybe we might have an effing clue about what we're doing?

But this jerk (hi Bob!) was trying to blame it on:

1. Being plugged into a UPS (saying those are really just to give you time to back up your 100 page thesis if the power goes out). So, we should "let TiVo take the brunt of the restart" and forget trying to save an $800 investment if there's a lightning strike...

2. Bad wiring in our house (asking us when the house was built and claiming "who knows what those contractors do"). At one point he said "I have a $100,000 sound system but I plugged a $1000 receiver in and it blew up. So you just never know."

3. Using an external expander (asking us if we read the hard drive manual and/or contacted them regarding hooking it up because they can be wonky). Um, no, we plugged it in and followed the Tivo's on-screen instructions.

4. Not plugging in the expander in the right order.

5. Having anything else plugged into the UPS along with the TiVo (we don't but it shouldn't matter).

6. Having the TV and TiVo plugged into the same outlet (he was talking to us about things like grounding and circuits and ...SERIOUSLY?

7. Claiming we never did a guided startup (then how the hell were we recording programs?).

Basically, it was something we're obviously doing since this is the second one that's died. Then he tells us that after a third replacement they won't replace it again. Huh?! We said we bought the warranty. Nope, three and you're done.

The whole conversation was just completely ludicrous. The things I've mentioned are the BASICS of what he touched on, and everything just sounded utterly condescending. I SO wish we had been recording it because we were just so gobsmacked. My husband and I just kept looking at each other and mouthing "Is he serious?"

Needless to say we asked for a manager and he didn't seem very with it, either--he was just kinda like "Hey, soooo, where are we at? Let me look at your info..." instead of jumping in feet first and taking control). But to his credit he processed the exchange as if we were still within the first 90 days so there's zero cost to us AND we still have the rest of our original warranty left. He said he had no idea what the other guy was talking about limiting exchanges to three.

So, if you happen to get Bob who sounds quite a bit dooshy and questions the build construction of your house while diagnosing a dead TiVo, hang up and try again. Or record it for all to enjoy.

American Idol - Top 3 Perform - OAD 5/8/2013

Wed, 05/08/2013 - 21:55
I have no idea how America is going to vote. I can say that in the few years that I have watched this show the this is, by a long shot, the most talented top three I have seen.

If I had to rank the rounds I would say

Round 1 went to Angie
Round 2 went to Kree
Round 3 went to Candace

Some of the song choices tonight did not let the singers soar. They really handcuffed Kree with the 1st and 3rd song choice but she was stellar on the 2nd song.

I said this back at the top 10 two months ago and it still holds true today

Quote: Originally Posted by Maui (Post 9559233) I think overall Candice is the best singer out of the top ten but I find myself pulling for Kree. Candace is amazing!

Survivor Caramoan : OAD 5-8-2013 - "Don't Say Anything About My Mom"

Wed, 05/08/2013 - 20:10
Poor Brenda, I almost feel sorry for her.

Honestly, I would not have given my reward away to the other 4. It was a terrible strategic move because it made her way more likable in a Final 3.

Cochran with his mother chitchatting about her flight and whatnot was great.

Anyway, finalé on Sunday, right? I would love to see Cochran win. At this point, I think any of them except Sheri could win it.
