A while back I upgraded this tivo S3 with a 1tb drive. It appears that drive is now going bad. when using winmfs it stops at partition 12 and never finishes. I have left it overnight and no progress. when I attempt to do a backup of the os, boot and the other options it appears to be ok but I can't restore those to my new drive, I get node 1 or node 0 errors.
trying the dd-rescue now but after 15hrs I think its only 6gb complete.
I have used windows tools on the new drive to check it for errors. It has been formatted to NTSF and chkdisk has been run on it. since then I have run diskpart and clean. also formatted in winmfs.
Have I screwed up the new drive? Is there a trick to copy over a drive that has already been upgraded?
Been working on this for days.
GREAT stuff! Very insightful! I'd recommend it for any car or tire enthusiast. It doesn't just focus on manufacturing but also focuses on testing and R&D.
Kinda funny to see them drifting big trucks.
I don't see it airing in the next two weeks so I guess you'll have to watch it on YouTube or thru some other means. Not sure how long it'll stay up.
I am in Ontario,Canada and thinking of buying the following on Ebay:
TiVo Premiere Receiver Series 4 in Box TCD746320 HD
Can this be used for OTA,ie: HD Broadcasts?
btw: Is it possible to buy one on the TIVO website and have it shipped to Canada?
I recently replaced the power supply on my Tivo HD TCD652160. The new one I put in was identical to the one I took out only the capacitors were good. I then found a complete unit on Ebay that came from a highly rated individual, and I got it for a fraction of the price I paid for just the power supply, even though I got a fair deal on the new power supply also. The question is, the power supply in the complete unit is very different from the one I took out and the new one I put in. The foot print is the same but the arrangement of the capacitors, cooling elements and coils is not at all like the other two and I was wondering if anyone knew what was the reasons for the two different power supplies? Is it simply just different suppliers with different design solutions or was it a design fix when all the power supply issues were discovered. Thanks in advance for your time.
TiVo HD upgraded to a Hitachi HD31000 1TB drive. It has a single M cable card provided by Comcast.
Symptoms: Video and audio will freeze randomly and repeatedly. The actual freeze time will last for several seconds, play again for a second or so, then freeze again for several seconds. The freezing episodes will usually last for several minutes. When it happens, commands from the remote are sometimes ineffective. Sometimes I am able to get it to respond and fast forward until it video resumes normal playback. The pausing effects recorded content, recording content and "live" TV. In fact, I've found that when video freezes in and out on a recorded program, it effects live TV as well.
This behavior causes the TiVo to reboot about 1/3rd of the time. Usually it will reboot when I am unable to get the TiVo to respond to remote commands.
Additional info: I don't know if it's related or not, but I've had problems with the tuner for over a year. There are some occasions when watching one channel will cause the other tuner to go black. (It will not show any video or play any audio when this happens)
Does this sound like a hard drive in it's last days of life?
I am looking for some help with a new remote control. The remote control for our Hughes Tivo had some buttons that were getting hard to function so I bought a replacement remote(same model number) on Ebay. It works great for the Tivo but I cannot get it programmed for the TV. I know the TV is supported since the old remote works. One thing I noticed is when I type in the codes sometimes the red light blinks three times and sometimes it does nothing. I also tried the automatic one where you type in the 0999 code. The instructions say to press the channel up button every 2-3 seconds and if it reaches the end the solid red light will go out. In my case the red light goes out after pressing the channel button once. Is there a way to get the code that the old remote is using? Anything else I should be trying? Am I missing something simple? I've tried researching this in the forums but have not found anything that helps.
Moved to Tivo HD Series 3 section. Sorry
New season of the show started last night. Not sure if this is season 3 or 4.
I thought it was a pretty good episode. They left all 3 of the main characters in pretty bad situations at the end of last season. Kinda liked how they handled them all.
So, the original werewolf character to the show is now no longer a werewolf, but his girlfriend still is. I can only assume that he'll get re-werewolfed sooner than later. Also liked the witch in the story. Curious to see what she does with the dead werewolf buried in the ground.
Sally, the ghost, is back in her real body?!?! That was something I wasn't expecting. I think this could be very cool. She's more or less a zombie now that isn't worm infested.
Aiden's story was the most confusing. Like who was the dude that dug him up and how did he know he was even buried there? I guess there aren't many vampires left in the world either with whatever virus(or whatever) is being spread around humans.
I really like this version of Being Human and look forward to seeing what they do this season.
No thread yet? I didn't finish watching the ep yet but I found the photo shoot to be pretty hilarious.
There has to be a better way to set up a new Comcast with an M-cable card than calling the cable company and reading off numbers on the phone. I recently set up a new box: Spent half a day (on and off) on the phone before they agreed to send out service rep. The cable card can talk to the cable company to order on demand programming. It should be able to send set-up and diagnostic information, also.
It's customary to blame schedule inaccuracies on Tribune Media. However, last week was the season premiere of Justified on FX. It was scheduled to run at 10pm and 11pm. Due to a schedule conflict at 10pm, I recorded the 11pm showing. I realized I got the last five minutes of the 10pm showing first and missed five minutes of the 11pm when showing when the recording cut off.
Tivo's program guide showed Justified running one hour - starting and ending on the hour. But I checked Comcast's program guide and they had the correct times and showed the program running 65 minutes. Comcast boxes would record the start and end of the show correctly. Comcast boxes' on screen listings carry a TV Guide logo. Maybe their listings are more accurate than Tribune Media's.
If somebody from Tivo reads this, I hope they will talk to Tribune about it. We pay Tivo for program listings and Tivo pays Tribune (Tivo must be one of their biggest clients). I think we have a right to expect accurate - to the minute - listings, without having programs cut off at the beginning or end.
This topic hasn't been visited in a while - is Tivo ever planning on implementing an ability to delete recordings via web and/or iOS apps? :(
First you got Scott Pelley interviewing Travis Tygart, chief executive of the U.S. Anti Doping Agency, which is a plug for CBS Sports, which I think is on Showtime while on the CBS News. So if you don't subscribe to Showtime you're SOL. This would be better on 60 Minutes. Then you got Oprah, who is dragging her interview with Armstrong into a two night affair to try and boost ratings in her flagging OWN television network.
I could care less about Armstrong doping, which everyone was doing in the dirty sport of cycling. I'm pissed off that this scumbag who went out to destroy those who try to expose his drug dealings is trying to get sympathy from John Q Public by coming out with a "limited" confession. May you burn in hell Lance.
I am trying to set up so I can cancel DirectTV and use a NEOTV box for Netflix/Hulo+ and all the other stuff on the net. However I still want to record my local channels that I get to my Sony Bravia HD TV.
I have read (I think) all the threads about setting up a TIVO to receive OTA digital broadcases via a Digital to Analog converter box or an old VOOM box.
I have a Series 2 dual tuner and an older Series 2.
To date I have tried the following...
Using the Series 2 Dual Tuner:
With the Series DT and selecting Satellite, the voom box worked great but it kept rebooting..I guess its bad.
I then substituted an old Directv HD receiver that I was no longer using. It has input for digital tv input, but I could not get past the boot up screen for the box because it said it had an invalid card? Card was good when I de-avtiveated it.
I then substituted an old Hughes Box but no matter how I tried I could not get the TIVO to change Channels even tho I told it the satellite receiver brand was a Hughes?
Lastly I substituted an APEX D to A converter box between OTA antenna and the TIVO. Then I learned that the series 2 does NOT have the option for setting up with Antenna Only.
Note: completely re-configuring TIVO each time. Took forever!
Using the Older Series 2 TIVO:
Configured with Antenna Only using the APEX brand box. It works, BUT, the box only finds about 25 of the local channels? Multiple scans at different time of day .. no fun. If I connect the OTA antenna to my Sony Bravia HD TV It finds ALL the local channels...about 45 of them. (Orlando FL).
I did read that you could use the Series 2 with Converter Box of you selected a Satellite Brand that used same codes as the converter box. Found that APEX was supposedly a Hughes.. but that didnt work for me?
Beyond getting a different brand Digital to Analog converer box doe anyone have any other ideas?
Ever since the Fall update, we've had numerous problems with our Premier,
ESPECIALLY regarding the 30 min CACHE:
1) If you hit record on a live show and are behind a bit, Tivo will jump to the end of your show when it's done recording....leaving you to have to go find your once "live" show in the playlist and then find where you left off.
If your watching-while-recording sports, you get jumped to the end of the game....Tivo used to seamlessly deliver you from the live recording end to the beginning of the cache of the next live show!?
2) We used to be able to watch live tv a half hour behind (using cache) even if it needs to record another show in the next hour. Now, we lose the show we are watching (it dumps the cache) and it jumps to the next show in progress.
Now you have to hit record on everything just in case you want to finish the show before it turns the tuner.
3) We used to be able to hit record and grab a few minutes of the previous show, even if it's gone into the next hour. So if you see something you'd like to capture at 9:50, you could still hit record and Tivo will record that PLUS the ten o'clock show after it. Not anymore. Now it dumps the cache and jumps forward.
Been told by Tivo to restart and run tests. No help.
If they replace it, I wonder if we'll just have the same issues.
It all started after the UPDATE.
Is the ToDo list a "Premiere only" function? When I try to connect to either of my Tivo HD's all I get is the "Waiting" screen.
The current Time Warner promotion in my area is a $150 Best Buy gift card for switching to their bundled package. Around Christmas the promotion was the same gift card plus a Microsoft XBox.
I've decided to switch from my local cable co to TWC but figure I should time the switch such to maximize my promotion. Anyone watch their promotions close enough to know if the current $150 is typical/good/bad??
I have been a Tivo customer for a LONG time back to the first series 2 single tuner DVR, but now have a Series 3, and a Tivo HD. I am paying about $13 for one of them and $7 for the second one.
I would like to replace the Series 3 with a Premiere XL4, and want to know my options. Can I just replace the Series 3 online with the Premiere and keep the same monthly pricing?
I see that this DVR is available online and in store (Best Buy) for $350 ($50 off) right now, and I would love to have 4 tuners at my disposal on one device.
Is this an option?
i FF thru a show to see how bad the football overrun was then got to the start of the show, i paused
then went to myshows and started another program which i fell asleep to
when i got up, i noticed the machine was paused back on the 1st show
how did it do that?
