Is there anyone here who has enough old TiVo models to have the various peanut remotes and can take a comparison picture of all of them side by side?
Off the top of my head I can think of the Roamio remote (which I don't have - yet) which is smaller than...
The one that came with the Premiere which I do have.

The slideout keyboard remote
The older Series 1/2 remote that is supposed to be physically like the Roamio from what I read.
I'm sure there's more than that. What am I missing? What did Series 3 have, I don't remember.
I'm buying a roamio and am going to sell my premiere XL4 with lifetime subscription. Is there anything i need to do to delete stuff on hard drive or just leave it as is? Also can anyone get my account info from tivo if they have the unit? Do I deactivate it from my account or does it need to stay on it for lifetime to work with new owner? Sorry for all the questions. Never did this before and usually just pass my old electronics to my kids but they both have directv.

I just took my cable card out of my TiVo Premiere XL and put it into my new Roamio Basic. I got the normal black screen saying to call to activate. Was finishing up some things and came back to the TiVo to make the call about 10 minutes later and miraculously my CC was activated and all my channels are as they should be. No call required.
That's a first for me since getting my first CC TiVo way back when. I'm beyond thrilled with how easy everything has been with the Roamio.
I always thought Tivo downloaded two weeks worth of schedules, but I tried to set my Series 2 to record Survivor, which starts Sept. 18 and it doesn't find it. I also tried searching by time and see that no programs are in the schedule after 7:45 PM on Sept. 18. Is anyone else having the same problem finding programming after Sept. 17, or is it just me? If just me, any suggestions on how to fix it? I already manually connected to tivo and it connected and downloaded just fine, but still only goes out to Sept. 18 at 7:45.
Yesterday when I went to pick up my Roamio I noticed my Best Buy was out of TiVo Streams. The tag said clearance and had them at $119. I was told they had no more streams on order and would not be getting any in.
Does anyone know if TiVo is getting rid of the Streams?
Just got my new Roamio Pro and back in the Tivo family after many years away. So far, so good, but one question at this point.
On their blog, Weaknees says "The Plus comes with an RF/IR remote, and unlike the Roamio, the Plus has a Remote Finder. If you misplace your TiVo remote, just press a button on the Roamio Plus front panel and the remote will emit a signal to help you locate it. "
What button is this? I can't find anything on Tivo's website that describes the butttons / lights on the front panel. The included owner's manual says...oh wait, there's no included owner's manual.

I have A Verizon Router and a linksys EA 4500. I have the linksys functioning as my primary router in the house. When I Hooked up my Roamio and tried to use moca on it to connect my mini upstairs it screwed everything up with my Linksys. It looks like the Roamio was picking up the ip from the verizon Router. I have the Roamio connecting to the linksys with moca turned off and as soon as I turn moca on it jumps ship.
What can I do to keep the moca running on my Linksys network and not verizons? Will a filter somewhere work? How can I keep the Roamio from straying onto the Verizon? Drove me crazy all night trying to fix this. Thanks for any i put.
i was wondering where does the tivo box get it's time base for the clock?
i am talking about the time of day clock used to record by not the logic clock used by the cpu and other chips.
i know some clocks use the hum of the ac line and counts the waves that's why take that clock and use it over seas or connect to an inverter or ups it can tell the wrong time.
does tivo use the ac line or a crystal oscillator or divide the cpu logic clock?
i notice shows getting cut off so i wonder if there is a time drift.
has anyone reverse engineered or tore down a tivo 4 power supply and seen anything that connects the ac line to the mother board.
i have the tivo along with other stuff on a cyber power 1000 va ups witch has frequency matching that will maintain a constant 60 hz up to 5 hz on both sides of a frequency drift and line conditioner that will maintain constant voltage even when other items on the same line sags or surges the voltage like air conditioner or refrigerator
Some n00b kmttg questions here, so please forgive if they seem green.
For ages I've been a user (if not a proponent) of TiVo Desktop. Even paid for it many years ago. It's been what I've needed to use simply because I used it almost exclusively for just transferring programs back and forth from my TiVos to my desktop where I have quite a truckload of saved stuff.
Anyways, tonight I looked at kmttg, and have to say it's much improved over the last time I used it. I'm considering using just that for my transfers over desktop, because of the radically larger amount of info and options available to me. There's one other beef with TiVo Desktop is that some shows that we keep on the TiVo's (mostly kids shows like Dinosaur Train, stuff like that) have a habit of just being transferred again for no apparent reason, I'd like to stop that.
To that, if I go that route, what do I need to do in terms of uninstalling Tivo Desktop? If I just uninstall TiVo Desktop, will that leave my computer in a state where I can watch the .tivo files on my desktop, and also leave it where I can see what's on my desktop from the TiVo's elsewhere in the house?
Or if I uninstall TiVo Desktop, is there something I need to add on to kmttg to replicate the "server" function? (again sorry if I'm not using the terms right).
I suppose the other option would be to disable all auto transfers in TiVo Desktop, and then just leave it alone, never running desktop, but I suspect that's not the recommended way of doing this.

I actually have tried to read up on this, but I'm still a little confused. I live in an apartment and it's just me, so I'm fine always watching TiVo on my TV when I'm at home. I don't ever feel the need to wander around in my tiny apartment watching TiVo on my iPad.
What I'd want to use the TiVo stream for is when I'm away from home. What exactly can you do with the TiVo stream when you're out and about? From what I can tell, it looks like you need to download programs to your iPad when you're at home, and then they take up space on your iPad, and then you can watch them while you're away. Is this it? Do things sync, so that I can delete a show I've watched on my iPad and don't need to remember to also delete it to free up space when I'm back home from my TiVo? Roughly, what percentage of programs are 'locked' and don't allow you to transfer them? (I have Comcast, if that matters.)

I'm brand new to the Tivo world, and hooked up my Roamio Plus tonight. We are with Time Warner in Dallas, so I have the Motorola cable card and tuning adapter.
The guided set-up for the Tivo went fine and pairing the cable card went smoothly when I called TWC's cable card line. The one hiccup that has come up is with the tuning adapter. The tech sent a couple hits to the TA which did not seem to help as the light is still blinking. The tech suggested that the signal strength to the TA was low and was keeping the TA from picking up the signal. He suggested getting a cable signal amplifier from radio shack first before rolling a truck to our home to check the signal from the outside box.
I have seen other posts related to signal boosters to help with picture quality, but didn't see anything related to helping the TA directly. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this that they could share?
Also, we are currently only able to get 4 of the tuners to record. The tech felt that once the TA was working the other two tuners would work as expected. I was also wondering if this is accurate.
I will say I have really liked what I have seen so far in playing with the channels we do have. I'm just hoping this hiccup can be resolved otherwise it'll be a deal breaker for us.

President Obama will be speaking on Tuesday night. It is not known yet at what time it will happen, but if it is at 9 PM Eastern, it could throw a major monkey wrench into NBC's and Fox's schedules, as NBC has a live episode of America's Got Talent scheduled (and they can't fit 12 acts into either the hour before a 9:00 speech or the 90 minutes after it), and Fox has the So You Think You Can Dance? finale.
It's not so bad if the speech is at 8:00; Fox can squeeze the SYTYCD finale into 90 minutes if necessary, and NBC can extend AGT out to 10:30. Note that a shortened SYTYCD episode would affect the west as well.
There is also the possibility that Fox will not air the speech, but will air a graphic saying that the speech is on Fox News.
I'm a longtime tivo customer who was very excited when the Roamio Tivo Plus was announced. Sorry to say I've been very disappointed in the tivo Roamio plus. I currently have a very reliable Tivo Premier XL with 2 Tuners. Picture Quality has always been great and the user interface, while slow, has always been reliable. I was excited for the Roamio due to its faster interface, built in wireless ability. and promise of 6 tuners.
Boy was I wrong...while the user interface was slick and looks great. the Roamio's tv picture quality was degraded compared to my old XL Premier. The live tv and recorded shows appear darker then the old unit and colors either washed out or bleeding, particularly the premium channels were bad. In addition some channels are more pixelated than I have noticed in the past. My theory is the cable signal being split 6 ways leaves less signal for each of the 6 tuners.
Also the Roamio sporadically and unpredictably will completely loose signal on one or more tuners, causing one or more programs to not record. If I have to be in the room to make sure my favorite shows are actually recording it kinda defeats the purpose.
In addition, the new internal wireless connection is WEAK! My new Roamio sat in the same location as the old XL but struggled to find a wireless signal. My tivo wireless adapter for the old unit never had any trouble. Roamio frequently looses Internet while I'm in the middle of searching for programs, so u can imagine how we'll Netflix or Hulu streaming work....or don't.
Just so your all aware, I didn't plug one Roamio box in for 10 minutes and give up, I actually exchanged the Roamio twice and spent days between tivo and the cable company troubleshooting. Tivo has worked great for me for years, the only thing that changed is the Roamio so I'm doubtful it's something I've hooked up wrong or my cable company did.
At the end of the day the faster user interface lives up to the hype, but the bottom line is I love tv and the Roamio needs to reliably record what I want with a great quality picture...if it can't do that then what's the faster interface worth.
So I'm going back to my reliable Tivo Premier XL...hopefully it has another year or 2 left in it and I can only hope tivo can work out the bugs by the time I have no choice but to get another one.

Has anyone else had random reboots just watching live TV, I've had 2 so far in 2 days. A little worried.
Tivo Premiere reboots over and over
A few weeks ago one of my Tivo Premiere units started becoming increasingly unstable.
At first I found it locked up on a channel with a pink screen. The unit became more unstable that it would lock within 5 mins of just sitting at menu screen.
Put in another drive from a spare Tivo and did a clear and delete. Once everything was setup I called Cablevision to redo the cable card. Everything worked great.
The box ran from 1230am et today till about 5 today. At some point it started rebooting till I returned home at 8pm. I got it to stay up for 45mins and now it loops at welcome screen.
Any suggestions would be appreciated
Does anyone know how to acquire a 6-Tuner M-Card? My cable provider (Cox Cable of Hampton Roads) only has M-Cards that provide 2 tuners. :( After talking with TIVO support, who determined that my M-Card did not have the proper upgraded firmware. I have been to two of their 'solution' cards and even waited an hour to get to talk to the techie M-Card dude at Cox. They are clueless about any M-Card in excess of 2 tuners (however, they have a new Cox-labeled DVR that does 6 tuners...). So I am looking for another M-Card provider. Can anyone help?
I know the Mini isn't even 6 months old yet, but has Tivo ever run any special pricing deals on it? Or has it always be $100?
I am looking to pick one up soon for my Roamio and hoping to save a few bucks since I paid full price + lifetime on the Roamio.
I know Amazon has it for 88 right now. I haven't checked into other sites yet.
I should be getting a Roamio before too long, replacing a two tuner Premiere box. I know you can copy season passes from one of your boxes to another through the website.
However, what about suggestions? I've built up rather a lot of them (I haven't counted, but about 70 or so, with half of them set to auto record). It would be nice not to have to re-enter all of them.
Especially one that I have which will take awhile to redo. It's one that has every actor that has played a companion over 50 years of Doctor Who, with the phrase "Doctor Who" excluded. That way I can see other stuff they've been in. :)
Anyway, I didn't know of a way to do that, but I thought I'd ask in case it is available, and I just don't know about it. Tkx.
So I am wondering how that TiVo will stay in business.
Purchased a Roamio this week and turned-in my TWC Cisco DVR--because the interface and the quality were terrible.
After getting the device set-up on TWC, only 3 of the 4 tuners worked--so a multiple set of calls to support started.
CASE #1: 130904-008911
Our representative [Stu] told us that the DVR needed to be replaced and it would be better and easier for them to replace it than taking it back to Best Buy, where purchased.
After a lot of problems even getting to that diagnostic, Stu told us to, "Wait a little while, take a walk and get a cup of coffee" and all would work out. Wow Stu, great advice for a piece of technology!
The results were to get a replacement shipped out but the catch was we had to call back in twenty minutes to get the shipping unit TiVo Service Number replaced in the account, but he could not do it as it required just a quick call back into the system to accomplish this.
So in twenty minutes (actually we waited about an hour) we called back.
CASE #2: 130904-010930
So Dan tells us it takes four hours not twenty minutes and that we need to call back to get the quick-switch taken care of.
(4 hours and 30 minutes later)
Guess what, we get Dan again! What luck!
But also guess what, we have to call back in several hours (8PM MT) to make sure that it goes through.
Hey Dan, get us a supervisor on the line please.
Well the supervisor stated that they would take care of EVERYTHING! Just let him get another supervisor that would be there on Thursday to take care of the switch-over and all will be well.
TWO DAYS LATER
Call back and in same form and fashion the DVR says it has no service--they kick-off a remote connection, again and again.
And now I have to wait 24 - 48 hours for everything to make it through the system.
Guess What, this is the biggest piece of junk I have ever dealt with from a support, service and hardware perspective.
Wow, just wow!
Reviews are going up on Best Buy, Amazon and other sites to warn against the huge colossal waste of technology and time!
Along the way I was promised calls back from Supervisors and the masses, but have I gotten ONE call back--NO!
