Dr. Phil reruns on OWN.

Wed, 07/10/2013 - 12:37
God I can't believe I'm admitting this, but our household is a bit addicted to Dr. Phil on OWN, and have been for a while.

But I am FRUSTRATED. How many years of crap has he put out, and OWN only plays, like, 100 of them-and some of them are REALLY lame?

I don't care about your weight loss challenge from 2008! Play more about creepy husbands! Or mixed-up Moms!

Sheesh. :o Anyone else watch the reruns?

BREAKING NEWS: TiVo Rolling Out Multiroom Upgrade to RCN in September including DTA

Wed, 07/10/2013 - 12:18
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r284...29977101597132

Quote: [TiVo] TiVo Update 20.2.2.3 ALL Markets..

Good Morning Everyone,

I've been traveling and on vacation for a bit and haven't been checking in here as much as I would like to, however, I wanted to give a quick update on the TiVo Front and communicate that we have pushed out a patch to your TiVo's over the last few weeks.

Right now we are wrapping up Chicago which will complete our TiVo Upgrades. This update has a number of under the hood enhancement and bug fixes. There is no UI changes but several fixes to on-going issues such as. :

TiVo's going into a Service Level A issue and thinking they are in-active.

Bug that was causing TiVo's to reboot spontaneously.

Customers with two or more premieres that had MRS turned off still got the option to PLAY content from the other TiVo Premiere. (V123) Error

And there was some other bugs that were affecting us when we staged them in the warehouses.

This will complete the upgrades until around september when we will be tracking another upgrade for the TiVo Population. That upgrade will have a lot of enhancements around MultiRoom and around the way a tuner is allocated for use with the Mini.

I hope all is well.

Issue transfering shows from Tivo HD to Premiere

Wed, 07/10/2013 - 08:33
I have 2 TiVo's, 2 Slingbox, 2 wired computers, a wired blu-ray player, a wired Smasung SmartTV, a wired VoIP box for my home phone service, and a wireless access point on my home network serving a wifi printer, a tablet and a laptop. The little LinkSys router I have has only 4 network ports, so I picked up an unmanaged 8 port network switch to give me the extra ports I need connect everything.

Recently, I'm having trouble transfering shows from a Premiere to a TiVo HD (Series 3). Works fine going from the HD to the Premiere, just not from the Premiere to the HD. Whenever I try to transfer a show from the HD to the Premiere, the Premiere will spontaneously reboot. It does that every time regardless of what show is selected or whether it was an HD recording or not, and show length doesn't appear to matter either. It's every transfer, every time, and only when going from the HD to the Premiere.

I contacted support to try and figure out what the problem is (online chat). The support guy (Nathan) said that I'm on an unsupported network configuration, that network switches of any type aren't part of the approved network connection design and that he couldn't help me.

<begin rant>
TiVo technical folks need to start thinking about just how people use computers and things in their homes. NO ONE that I know (including my aging parents of all things) has less than 4 networked devices in their homes. If the only supported configuration is to have some generic router running the Internet connection and both (or more) TiVo's connected to it AND NOTHING ELSE, then you support people have a serious problem. Nobody, especially anyone that is tech savvy (at least those that I'm associated with), has a configuration like that.

And besides, what the hell does my Internet router have to do with communication between 2 TiVo's on the same network?? The router doesn't touch internal traffic unless it is destined for the Internet link. Don't even try to tell me it does. I'm not only a Cisco and Microsoft certified IT tech, but I also manage a wide area network for an entity that covers several US states including the one I live in. I'm well aware that the TiVo's need to 'call home' on a regular basis for updates, guide listings and the like, but I can't for the life of me understand how that should have anything to do with transfering a show from one TiVo to another, especially when it worked fine the week before and just suddenly stopped working a week later.
<end rant>

I understand that TiVo can't provide support for people's home networks, regardless of the type or arrangement or what hardware is in use. That's not my problem. My problem is that TiVo Support will not troubleshoot an obvoius problem when a network switch is involved. That's just ludicrous.

Now, having gotten all of that off my chest. Hopefully folks here can provide some insight into the problem.

Tivo HD:
10.1.1.11 address (static)
wired ethernet connection

Tivo Premiere:
10.1.1.10 address (static)
wired ethernet connection

Transferring shows back and forth worked not more than a week ago (that's when we last did it). Yesterday afternoon it failed as described above. We tried 7 or 8 different show transfers, all failed as described above. I transfered 3 shows to the HD, all without a single issue. SO I know they are talking to each other on the network, it just appears that the Premiere is having a hard time with things.

This is the third time in a couple years I've contacted Tivo Support for something, and I'm sorry to say its also the third time they've let me down. My last call was over a year ago concerning a dead Tivo box. Instead of fixing it ($150) we repalced it with a new Premiere ($99). I was told that the old dead box would be removed from my account. It's still there, and they still want me to pay for it or reactivate it even though it was not only unusable, but was dismantled and recycled more than a year ago.

Before that, my first call, was for this same type of problem. Back then I was on a supported network configuration and they were still unable to help me. I actually found the answer here after asking for help.

My wife is fed up with Tivo at this point, and she's about ready to pull the plug. We already own the hardware (and one lifetime activation) so I'd rather try and fix whatever the issue is first. But I could just as easily setup a couple XBMC boxes or Media Center or something and replace the Tivo's completely. I'm considering that, honestly, but we've already invested so much money in the Tivo hardware that I'm not ready to part with it quite yet.

Geez, I'm long winded. I get like that when I'm upset.

Tivo UI showing up on Evolution HD DTAs

Wed, 07/10/2013 - 07:10
Interesting tidbit on how Tivo is branching out further into MSO land...

http://www.evolutionbb.com/cable/Exp...e/page650.html

New TiVo® UI on Evolution HD uDTAs

Operator-branded HD uDTA, powered by TiVo. Now your lowest-cost box can deliver a feature-rich user experience on every TV. The MSO-branded Evolution Digital HD uDTA is a one-way DTA served by a traditional data carousel which provides a UI experience consistent with the TiVo STB. It provides a low-cost solution for operators looking to extend TiVo service to second and third TVs with a guide and navigation experience not normally seen on DTA devices. Additionally, it’s an extremely compact device able to fit on top, beside or behind the TV.

Endeavour - BBC

Wed, 07/10/2013 - 05:29
This is a prequel to the popular "Inspector Morse" series, portraying Morse as a young man new on the force. The mysteries are in that same familiar style - lots of suspects, plenty of red herrings, families with long-buried secrets, much of it centered around Oxford. Shaun Evans is excellent as the shy, taciturn young Morse. So far the mysteries aren't quite on a par with the best of the original series (or the sequel "Inspector Lewis"), but they're still ten times more intriguing than most of the crap we get over here in the "states", imho.

Well worth a look for fans of "Morse" and "Lewis".

Summer Sale

Tue, 07/09/2013 - 19:48
Has anyone purchased a factory renewed Tivo? Looking at picking up a couple of the 74.99 Tivo Premieres to use as whole home options in 2 bedrooms. I currently have a Tivo Premiere 2 tuner in the family room. Figure they would be good options. I would have to purchase 4 MoCA adapters to make it all work, and would go monthly for the subscriptions (multi-service discounts) until I can save up for the lifetime options.

Does this sound like viable option? I don't want to purchase a premiere xl 4 to use two minis. That would give me six tuners throughout house which is more than I need.

Thanks in advance for the input!

Model TCD240080 compatible with FiOS

Tue, 07/09/2013 - 18:03
Can anyone tell me if TiVO model in title of thread is compatible with Verizon FiOS. I have been offered one by a family member. This box has lifetime service. Not sure how all this works.

Problem accessing channels

Tue, 07/09/2013 - 12:33
For the past several days I have not been able to access all my channels. I get most, but not some.

I get a message that says Trouble accessing channel (V53).

I have unplugged Tivo, and tunning adapter. Tested the channels on my cable card (they were all there)

I am with Cox Cable San Diego South County -- they tried sending signals to Tivo...did not resolve.

Please advise. Thanks.

Get Out Alive With Bear Grylls S1E1 - 7-8-13

Tue, 07/09/2013 - 05:52
I liked the premise more than the show. The survival part was great until they started eating fish eyes and drinking their own pee.

They've got glacial streams right there. Why the need to drink their own pee? That sort of turned the show into Fear Factor instead of a survival show for me.

Might watch it again as they hopefully got the stupid Fear Factor stuff out of the way.

PY Tivo transfer speed, faster on N wireless?

Tue, 07/09/2013 - 00:00
Hey folks.

A quick question here. My entire house setup is on a N wireless network, but my Premiere is using the dated G Tivo wireless adapter. I tried hooking up my N adapter to the Tivo but then read that N adapters don't work on Premieres so I may buy a bridge.

However, my main reason for doing so is the slow transfer speeds using Pytivo. On average when I pull from the pc to the box, it's 2-3 x the playtime of the file. So if it's a 2 hour movie, typically takes 6 hours to code and transfer (full hd movies).

Does anyone know if I hook my Tivo up with a bridge ore N wireless adapter will I see an increase in speed? I have a fast computer with a high end cpu so I'm assuming that's not the bottleneck. Thoughts? Thanks!

A cuople of problems with both my tivo premiere xls

Mon, 07/08/2013 - 23:44
I have verizon fios and on both my tivo premieres i have video out of sync the audio is fine but the picture is a little fast like watching an old movie from the 1920s,sometimes when i fast forward it will correct itself but then a few minutes later it goes out of sync again! also when i rewind a program i'm watching whether its live or recoded, when i hit the rewind button it goes instantly all the way back to the beginning of the show i'm watching . Any ideas how to solve these problems ? If not i will try calling tivo or verizon tomorrow .I feel like i'm watching streaming channels on the internet as the motion is not smooth during action scenes and even during a scene where people are just talking. This happens whether or not i use my onkyo 809 av receiver,or just my samsung tv.:(

Missing Directories.

Mon, 07/08/2013 - 23:36
Last night I list most of my directories in my Now Playing List. I had in for all HD recordings. Also if I recorded several of the same TV show, it would it in a new directory and show how many. I still have a recently deleted directory. What has happened and how do I fix it? I have a Tivo 3 that does antenna TV. I us it to record TV shows. Thanks

Under the Dome S01E03 "Manhunt" 7-8-13

Mon, 07/08/2013 - 23:12
This show is really running off the rails. I agree with Alan Sepinwall's review of this episode.

http://www.hitfix.com/whats-alan-wat...-under-and-out

Episode 2 was a big misstep, but one the show could have recovered from. "Manhunt," though, continued all the stupid things from last week and added more. There's absolutely zero urgency from any of these people to figure out how they're going to survive inside this thing with limited supplies of food and water. There's barely any urgency about finding ways out, for that matter, except from characters who are crazy and/or chained underground in a bomb shelter. The dome seemingly makes people crazy — which thus far is just an excuse for contrived, clumsy melodrama designed to distract both the citizens and the audience from the actual problems created by the dome — so I suppose it's possible it's also pacified everyone into a "Don't worry, be happy, crack a joke about the dwindling bacon supply" attitude, but there's been no suggestion that's the case. The characters are either bland (Deputy Linda, Julia, Joe), cartoonishly evil (Junior, this new jerk Carter) or played by an actor who deserves much, much better material (Big Jim).

Below Deck (Bravo) Season 1

Mon, 07/08/2013 - 23:03
As described in this thread about new/renewed Bravo shows:

"Below Deck" - Summer 2013

Produced by 51 Minds with Mark Cronin and Courtland Cox as Executive Producers.

The upstairs and downstairs worlds collide when this young and single crew, known as "yachties," live, love and work together onboard a privately owned extravagant yacht. Working and tending to the ever-changing needs of their demanding charter guests is not always smooth sailing.

*****
I watched the premier and have the series as a low priority on my recording list. It might have potential, but does seem to suffer from the common reality show syndrome of "pick intentionally-conflicting personalities that are forced to live/work together".

The boat is a very large motor yacht with all of the requisite toys. They make several comments about week-long charters costing up to $100k (although they never seem to say that about this specific boat/charter). I'm watching mainly because of the boat, which is over the top in furnishings, much like NASCAR drivers' motorhomes.

Outside reviews of the premier have been almost overwhelmingly negative.

Media Server

Mon, 07/08/2013 - 18:21
I have a Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit machine - right now, I am only using it for checking emails on Exchange - so that it updates all my other machines

I have a lot of disk space and we also have the NAS325 with 6T and two Roku 3.

Summary (from Speccy):
  • Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit SP1
  • CPU: Intel Pentium 4 /Northwood 0.13um Technology
  • RAM: 1.00GB SDRAM @ 132MHz (3-3-3-6) (I have RAXCO High-Speed RAM Disk that I can install on this machine.
  • Motherboard: Dell Computer Corporation OptiPlex GX240 (Microprocessor)
  • Graphics: DELL 1702FP (1024x768@1Hz) /16MB ATI Standard VGA Graphics Adapter (ATI)
  • Hard Drives: 233GB Western Digital WDC WD2500JB-00REA0 ATA Device (ATA) 38 °C - there are a total of three
  • Optical Drives:SONY DVD RW DRU-830A ATA Device
  • Audio: Intel 82801BA/BAM AC'97 Audio Controller
I do not know how much RAM I can purchase or if the RAXCO High-Speed RAM Disk will do the trick.

Nothing else will be done on this machine. Is this enough for this to be a functional media server?

Thank you!

When is TiVo going to post a profit?

Not that EBIDATA smoke and mirrors BS either.

When does Rogers expect them to post actual profits from actual revenues?

Backing up TiVo recordings

Mon, 07/08/2013 - 16:32
I have a TiVo Premiere. I have backed up some shows (like my Blackhawks playoffs games this year!) to my computer, using TiVo Desktop. I then copied those files to a 2TB external hard drive. My question is, is there any way to play back those files from the external on my tv? I'd like to remove them from my TiVo to save space. I didn't think it would work to plug the external into the TiVo, but I tried, and got a message: This DVR does not support using USB to connect a device to add recording space. I don't want to add recording space (I already have the official 1TB extender), I just want to be able to watch the recordings on my 61" tv, rather than my 17" laptop monitor. I don't want to burn them to DVDs, as I have over 500GB of files, some of them over 30 gigs. I suppose I could convert them to another format, but that would be a huge waste of space and time. I use TVMobili with my Blu Ray, but it doesn't recognize .tivo files. Any suggestions?
