6 year old DVR, Directv has gone to own dvr but with TIVO software, (I'm told), If I go with DirectV, I am told I must buy HD service also...Question if I go to Best Buy and pay $150 can I use with DirctV and not buy HD fees, ( old TV)
My Series 3 (TCD648250B) died recently, which I first thought was the HDD. I was unable to backup the drive with WinMFS (got an error reading the drive) and the drive failed SMART tests. So I found Unitron's fresh image for my model and started over with a new 1TB drive (WD10EAVS restored with WinMFS). Couldn't get that to work so I replaced the caps in my power supply.
Now the TiVo will boot just fine with the fresh drive and I get through setup without any problems. I then get error 51, which is expected. So I do a Clear and Delete, but the TiVo never boots successfully a second time. After getting through the initial setup it seems like everything is working fine (except the error 51 of course). But then I can't get it to boot again after selecting Clear and Delete, which is necessary to clear the error 51. It just hangs on the initial powering up screen (all lights on the front of the box on). Is this where it would hang for hours during a clear and delete?
Any suggestions? I've used old posts on this forum to get this far and it's been incredibly helpful, but I'm at a loss now. I've got lifetime service on this box so I'd really like to rescue it.
Did anybody else's Tivo Premiere restart by itself overnight? My TP4 did and I think a friend of mines did too. I immediately checked the Account Information screen for a new build but the version number remained the same. Usually, this kind of behavior signals that a new update is imminent so who knows.
My old Slingbox PRO-HD finally broke, and I'm contemplating replacing it with the new 350. Ideally, I would like to send HDMI from the TiVo to my receiver, and component video to the Slingbox. I seem to recall this may cause HDMI handshake issues if all the devices in the HDMI chain aren't turned on. Is this still the case?
I was reading that Dish Networks hopper DVR can automatically skip commercials.
Do you think this feature will be available on Tivo in the future rather than having to fast forward?
Finally! That whiny b*tch is gone!
I knew when they had to do the physical task with the barrels that they wouldn't get there before the roller derby moms.
I'm thinking that next week's two-hour finale will be two single episodes with a Philimination at the end of the first hour, then a flight to somewhere (coastal) in the US for the second hour. Or possibly straight to the final destination at the beginning of the first.
Not sure who I want to win, now. The final four are all pretty non-descript.
Congratulations to Jon Snow! ;)
The scene with Jaime and Brienne was fantastic. His recount of why he killed the king was riveting. Not to mention how Bolton tricked him for as long as he could about Cersei!
Tywin continues his quest for father of the year. Loved how quickly he erased that smirk off Cersei's face!
The HDD is constantly "thrashing" around. This has been going on for weeks now. I decided to do a power cycle which initially solved the problem, but only for a week. Now it's back to thrashing.
I have a 2nd 652, but that is not doing this.
This is setup for OTA & CATV w/ no CC if that matters. It also does not have any desktop functions (access) in use. It has a WD 1TB internal drive (WD10EZRX) with the intellipark disabled with no external drive connected.
This is not a noisy or bad hard drive. The thrashing is quite, it either has to be dead quiet in the room or I have to place my ear next to the deck to hear this. It sounds as it's doing a defrag process continuously or indexing (if that is what it is called). I used MFSLive boot CD to image the drive.
Any ideas what is going on and why a power cycle temporally fixed the problem?
Being a loyal TiVo customer since day one, I was really excited when the slick email came from Tivo marketing announcing the capabilities of their new Tivo Stream product. It was just what I was looking for. I have an iPad, but hardly use it over my much preferred Android Tablet and phone. This was way back in mid 2012, and the promo email, website, and everything that talked about the Tivo Stream said "Now Working With IOS Devices" and "Android Support Coming Soon".
Well, the reason I decided to buy it the first day it was available was that I could play around with it on my iPad, then it will REALLY BE USEFUL to me when the android comes out SOOOOON! No reasonable person would expect soon to be close to a year. Since then, Tivo got $129.00 for the box, and all the monthly fees....while I wait to figure out what TiVo means by "Soon".
Android devices now outnumber IOS by quite a bit...GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER AND STOP MAKING PROMISES TO SELL PRODUCTS THAT YOU CANT KEEP!!! Where can I get my money back for a product that was completely misrepresented? It doesn't appear TiVo ever plans to add the Android support.
When will I buy another TiVo product after being a loyal customer for so long???? SOON!
Did the way the realtor made the comment about the 2nd Ave subway make anyone else's ears prick up?
It did mine, so I looked it up.
and still not built, lol.
I guess I don't understand the map on that article well though, cuz it looks like even though the 2nd Ave subway hasn't been built there are a couple of parallel lines a couple blocks over, no?
The claim is that Hulu Plus subscribers watch less commercials, but it that really true. And if there are less commercials, how much less?
I'm a bit skeptical when Hulu marketing info states that paying subscribers help keep costs down. The reality for all advertising business models is to maximize profits through advertising. If Hulu has companies buying ad time for for TV series XXX, I can't see them turning down money because they have a policy of only couple minutes (or whatever) of ads for paying subscribers. I would suspect that if they could match the networks with 18-19 minutes of of ads per hour, Hulu would do it. :)
I created a whole season thread because there does not seem to be the love for this show that it deserves. Single best comedy on tv right now.
JLD is really hitting her stride. The writing is razor sharp, and the show requires multiple viewings to get all the jokes. I just hope they can sustain this level of excellence. Great great great.
Since this tends to be the place we come to when we have questions or problems, I wanted to share some personal "good news" and thanks to the TiVo folks.
My cable company recently added about 24 HD channels to the lineup. After a week without seeing any Guide Data for these new options, though, I sent a Lineup Change form to TiVo Help. They say to allow for about a week for anything to change. . . so I was very pleasantly surprised to see that accurate Guide Data showed up in less than 48 hours. And I didn't have to do a thing to get it -- no restart, no Guided Setup redo. It was just there. And it just worked.
I know. . . Not anything earth-shaking here. But as someone who watches a ton of TV -- and who has loved TiVo ever since our first S2 unit in 2002 -- I just wanted to say a public "thank you" for a small job done well.
I love those long pauses on the mat after Phil tells a team they are the last to arrive.
You just know that means non-elimination. :)
Does Tivo still use the Teleword paid program for downloading info? I don't see it listed in the onscreen guide.
Craster stabbed in the throat, Lord Commander Mormont stabbed in the back, many of the remaining Night's Watch men in rebellion, and Sam fleeing with Gilly and her son. Who knew Sam had some of the hero in him?
Margaery just about has Joffrey eating out of her hand, and it looks like she will soon have Sansa doing the same -- suggesting Sansa might have Loras is genius!
Arya accusing the Hound of murder and Beric Dondarrion to be the champion to fight the Hound in a trial by combat.
Littlefinger has two featherbeds to be placed on the ship with him. Is he planning on taking Sansa with him? If so, at least she would appear to get her own bed.
Varys has the sorcerer, who castrated him as a boy, confined in a box. As Varys said, patience is helpful in plotting revenge. And now Varys is plotting with Olenna Tyrell.
Tywin Lannister says he is doing everything he can to rescue Jaime. But all he appears to be doing is sitting at his desk and writing. Tywin does not trust Cersei because she is not as smart as she thinks she is, and she fails to control Joffrey.
One-handed Jaime is ready to lie down and die when he finds he cannot fight worth a damn with his left hand. But Brienne is grateful to Jaime for saving her from rape (or she still plans to trade him for the Stark girls), and she bullies Jaime into choosing to live.
Theon is back where he started, tied to the cross. It seems Theon has no friends left (if he ever had any).
Daenerys could speak High Valyrian all along, and it did not require much patience for her to get revenge on the nasty slave master, who learned, for a brief moment, that a dragon is not a slave. And Daenerys has a loyal army, marching with all three dragons flying overhead.
COULSON IS ALIVE!!!
Oh, yeah, also ABC is planning on airing this show in its fall lineup. Pilot co-written and directed by Joss Whedon.
Fresh from his role in the summers box office smash, Marvels The Avengers, Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) returns to the worldwide law enforcement organization S.H.I.E.L.D. He puts together a small, highly trained, team of Agents to tackle the cases that havent been classified yet, the new, the strange and the unknown. That team consists of straight arrow Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), an expert in combat and espionage; pilot and martial artist Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen); and brilliant if socially awkward scientists Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge). Theyll be joined by civilian new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet).
I almost don't care if it's a huge flop and cancelled in the third episode. Coulson is alive and they CAN'T cancel it by summarily bumping him off again!
I get most of my news from MSNBC, CNN and even Fox News. (TV sources). I wonder if in the future networks will even bother interrupting regular TV since many people do not watch live TV for regular shows. I flip to a 24 hour channel for stories such as the Boson incident and even scheduled events such as Presidential addresses. For really breaking stories I use Internet sources.
