cue music from tablet? android apps?

Sun, 03/24/2013 - 19:55
I have free tivo desktop on my PC and was able to publish my mp3's to be playable on my Tivo ok, but is there an android app so I can cue music to play from Tivo with tablet instead of having to turn TV on?
On Android playstore the 2 main full fledged apps I see are-

official Tivo for tablet app
- reviews complain of slow app
- unavailable for jellybean

DVR commander
- less features than tivo app?
- faster than tivo app

Anyone care to share impressions comparing these? I just installed Tivo for tablet on my ICS tablet. It seems to run fine for me despite horrid reviews on android play store. Mostly due to jellybean incompatibility? I dont see how to cue music from within app.
Other tivo adroid app I installed is "tivo music server" and it works great as a way to play music from a micro SD card wirelessly to tivo from an android device. all navigation controls need to be done from TV menu unfortunately. The only other Tivo apps I see is "network remote for Tivo" & "RCX for Tivo". These last 2 apps seem to be basic remote apps. Will these or any other apps allow me to cue my music and leave TV off?

KidZone?

Sun, 03/24/2013 - 19:46
I looked through the TiVo Mini manual and saw that the Mini has Parental Controls, but it made no mention of KidZone. Can I assume that KidZone is not supported in the Mini?

WTS: Premiere with Lifetime

Sun, 03/24/2013 - 17:28
Hello everyone, I currently have a Premiere, Premiere 4, and now a Mini. Long story short, when the wife found out the Mini is going to rob one of her 4 Channel tuners for live TV on the Mini she was not real happy. I'm going to order another Premier 4. I'm going to sell my 2-tuner Premiere with Lifetime if anyone is interested. It's in my computer room hooked up to a UPS and does not get much use. I'm on a business trip until this Thursday so this is what I think it is and I will be exact with pictures of the info screen, outside, and inside including HD and PS when I get home. We are in a smoke free, no kids, almost retired environment. It's a TCD746320 with upgraded WeaKnees 1Tb (could be 2Tb, I'll check). I have original box and accessories. I will ship Double boxed UPS for free to anyone in USA. $390. Only PayPal please. I will post pictures and more detail after next Thursday. If no one here is interested after I post pictures I will move to eBay.
Thanks,
Tom

TiVo Stream needs to be restarted after a few days of no activity

Sun, 03/24/2013 - 17:25
I thought that this was tied to a specific Stream box but I am now on my second one and experiencing the same issue. After several days of no activity, when I go to use Stream, it cannot stream anything and asks me to troubleshoot. It gets hung up on the checking software version step. I then have to restart it and after 5-10 minutes, all is working again.

That is until a few days of inactivity and I go through this all over again. Anyone else have similar experiences? If yes, is there a known fix?

Solving: "You do not have an AC3 audio codec installed.". No sound on playback.

Sun, 03/24/2013 - 16:43
TiVo technical support won't help with this, because it is a playback issue. From TiVo Desktop 2.8.3 "TiVo Desktop Troubleshooting" I get:
You do not have an AC3 audio codec installed. Playback of audio from TiVo recordings from some TiVo DVRs requires an AC-3 audio codec, such as the one included in theTiVo Desktop Plus upgrade. The Home Premium and Ultimate Editions of Windows Vista include an AC-3 codec and is often included with software for playing DVDs.I am using Windows Vista Basic. How do I best go about getting a Dolby AC-3 codec, so that audio will work on playback?

I'm dropping my cable and going Internet only when I move in a month, so it's time to get rid of the TiVo. :(

I have an XL4 in great condition with lifetime service and also a TiVo Stream. They're separate auctions, but if you want to buy them together I will cut you a deal on shipping.

If you have any questions, ask away.

MoCA Without Cable Modem

Sun, 03/24/2013 - 15:27
Is it possible to create a MoCA network without a cable modem? My router (Apple TimeCapsule) is fed the internet connection via ethernet cable from a Cincinnati Bell Fioptics box in a utility closet. There is no visible cable modem. What I'd like to do is use a Tivo Premiere XL4 to create the MoCA network by connecting the Tivo Premiere XL4 box to the TimeCapsule with an ethernet cable and then connect the coax cable from the wall into the Tivo. From there, I'm hoping that I can connect other Tivos (Minis or another Premiere box) with the coax cable from the wall directly into the other Tivo boxes and utilize the MoCA network to enable the Whole Home functionality with Tivo. Any idea if this will work?

Cisco1520 Issues

Sun, 03/24/2013 - 14:40
When I lived in Illinois and had Comcast, I would get 10-15 Tivo suggestions daily recorded. Since I moved to TWC I have yet to get a single Suggestions recorded. I have the Cisco1520 SDV box and I'm awaiting the installer to come today and look at the hardware. Any help from the community would be appreciated.

Sun, 03/24/2013 - 13:59
When I want to view a picture file or play a music file, I get an error # 0-65535.I only added one picture to tivo plus in case I had a corrupted file and still got the error. This has happened on my series3 and xl4 . I have no trouble transfering programs to pc or sending video files from pc to the xl4 and watching on tv. Can anyone tell me what this error is and how to fix it? I'm using windows 7 and tivo plus 2.8.3.

Tivo Stream fact check

Sun, 03/24/2013 - 13:00
This is a just a fact check on Tivo Stream. I've read all of the threads as well as the Reviews on Best Buy.

Question: One reviewer indicates that he is an Elite owner (as I am) with 4 tuners and that the Tivo Steam reserves/ties-up one of those even when not in use.

Is this true?

Many thanks!

Loving the Mini

Sun, 03/24/2013 - 12:15
I've read every thread here for months, so I'm aware of the many people where the Mini doesn't work for them. I'm a new Tivo customer because of the Mini, so I must be the kind of customer Tivo is targeting. Here is my story.

Until November 2012, we just had a standard definition CRT TV in our family room where we did most of our TV watching. The Comcast 3416 DVR with a 160G hard drive we had was good enough for SD. We had been sticking with the SD TV for so long just because I didn't think there was a good enough HD DVR solution available. We had another 3416 downstairs in the home theater (110" front projection, high definition, etc) but we really only watched football games, the Tour De France and the Pro Cycling Challenge down there. I paid almost $20/month for each of these crappy DVRs, but they worked good enough. I hated the idea of paying for the 3416 in the home theater since we used it so infrequently.

We decided to finally upgrade our family room to an HD TV, but before doing so I had to figure out a better DVR solution since 160G won't cut it for HD. I first looked at Comcast's new offerings, but they were terrible. Their whole home solution base DVR had a 500G HD and I think only 2 tuners. It was not expandable to add more storage at the time. In some Comcast locations they are starting to allow you to add a 1TB external drive to the 3416's but that wasn't available in my area.

I had looked at Tivo in the past many times but never made the switch because of the cost or the lack of features such as access to Comcast Xfinity On Demand. In November 2012 when I re-visited Tivo and learned about the Premiere XL4 and forthcoming Mini, this solution now did everything I had ever wanted:

- Lots of storage space (2TB)
- 4 tuners
- access to Xfinity On Demand
- ability to watch our recordings on either TV

I now have an XL4 in the family room and a Mini in the home theater. This is perfect for us since we don't watch much TV in the home theater. I allocated zero tuners to the Mini since I have no need to watch live TV in the home theater. I certainly didn't want to waste a tuner allocating it to the Mini permanently. On the rare occasion when I need live TV in the home theater, I'll just hit record from the guide on the Mini and immediately play back the recording. When DTA becomes available, I won't even have to do this. I don't need Netflix in the home theater since I have a PS3 there.

I've been following the DVR market for years but there has never been an ideal setup for me available. Now the XL4 + Mini is exactly what I've been hoping for.

No need to respond saying the Mini doesn't work for you. I've read every one of your threads already. I just thought I would share MY experience as a new Tivo customer that is very pleased with an XL4 + Mini for a whole home DVR solution.

Video Quality and Settings

Sun, 03/24/2013 - 12:15
My first post here though I've been lurking for months. I recently jumped back into the TiVo world after many years of satellite and cable DVR hell. I bought a Premiere XL4 and really love it hooked up to my Pioneer Kuro.

So we recently broke down and bought a 720P 32" Sony Bravia for the bedroom (I've also been opposed to owning more than one TV in a house but lost my resolve) and it's a great little TV. Perfect size for the space. Well, the purchase coincided with the intro of the TiVo Mini so I added that to the mix alongside an AppleTV. I purchased and installed the Moca adapter from TiVo, installed the mini and went through setup. The TiVo prompted me to select 1080i as the video setting and I went along with the suggestion. Bottom line, the picture quality looked pretty bad. Pixilated, dropped frames, just aweful. At first I chalked it up to the Moca speed but when I looked up the speed in the TiVo the measurements looked good. Then I thought maybe it's the fact that my Kuro is so far superior to my Sony that I'm just spoiled. That's partly true but not enough to account for the bad quality. After lots of setting mods, I changed the video setting on the TiVo to 720P. BAM, instantly the image quality improved. It's still not as good as the Kuro and I do need to calibrate the Sonybut I'll take it.

So, I have to ask, what is everyone choosing for video quality setting? Should you simply match your TV's native resolution? It gives options to choose more than one but why would I do that? I went and changed my Premiere XL4 to reflect all setting 720P and higher and I don't really notice a difference. Anyway... just curious what selection everyone else is making.

BTW, love the Mini and hope that TiVo keeps improving it with software updates.

Fix and add Apps

Sun, 03/24/2013 - 10:50
Firstly, I can't believe the Amazon App does not allow Prime customers to watch their "already paid for" content that other systems (Roku to name 1) allow. Fix this!
Next, please approach the Plex developers into building a client for Tivo. They already have one for Mac, PC, Linux, Google tv, IOS, Roku, Apple TV, Android,... You're missing the boat.

Spontaneous Reboot

Sun, 03/24/2013 - 09:19
Just set-up a new (to me) Premiere box with wireless connection and Comcast. Was in the middle of watching a show (live TV) on the second day of having it and the stupid thing restarted itself. Lost 5 minutes of the show I was watching. It went back to normal for a couple minutes. Then it went to the M Card info screen! I hit Clear and it went back to programming. What is the problem?

programming the volume control

Sun, 03/24/2013 - 07:42
Hi , I can program the TiVo volume control to decrease the volume on my Motorola 501 , but, I cannot program it to increase volume.
Also, I cannot program the mute control.
I'm using the learning method, I've given up trying to find the correct code.

Can anyone help?
