I'm wondering if this is just my Roamio. The advance goes in fast forward instead of all at once. I liked it a whole lot better the other way. Is there someplace in settings to change this?
After over a week in pure hell trying to get my Roamio working with our Cox Cable Card we finally got it sort of working enough to record a couple shows. Problem is I am finding that the closed captioning is not working when you are 1X fast forwarding. I have had an older 2 tuner non-HD TIVo for years and years and I use this feature ALL the time to skim through boring parts of shows. I miss this terribly. Please tell me this feature is not gone! This is one of the major things that sets Tivo apart from the other DVR's!
This has all been such a headache that I don't know how much more I can take!:(
I had a very strange experience today with my Roamio Pro unit. I got home from work and turned on the TV to find every tuner and every channel I tuned to basically be showing an entire screen of macroblocking problems. Occasionally pieces of the show would appear but mostly macroblocking and no audio. I figured something was just generally wrong with the signal, but my Internet connectivity was fine. So I switched over the my Premiere XL4 and everything was fine there too. I rebooted the Roamio and when it came back up, everything was fine.
So somehow it got into some strange state where it behaved like it had poor signal quality on everything, but a reboot fixed it.
I hate when something happens that makes me question how much I can trust it when I don't check it every day.
Is this a new issue that the live preview (or whatever you call the small video window in the top corner of the menus) will show things that it shouldn't when Parental Controls are enabled?
My 3rd grader figured it out this morning to watch a show we had recorded for the kids but apparently wasn't allowed by the ratings. So the kids just watched it in the small box! Thank goodness that's all they watched.
I'm missing Kids Zone more and more...
... anybody experience this??? It happens when it's not used for a period of time. It's on a UPS if it matters. As for as I can tell it doesn't reboot on it's own. I looked if there was an "Uptime" counter, but can't see any paging threw system/network settings.
Today, had a new Mini experience that has not happened to me before.
Turned on display. Blue screen, with the "wait a moment" little circle thing rather than the normal behavior where it asks if you want live TV, etc.
Waited 20 minutes, just to give it time. Never changed. No response via remote. Only recourse was to unplug mini. After about a 7 minute boot cycle, it came up normally.
No power issues (it's behind a UPS), no Fios issues, nothing happened to the host, etc. It just barfed for no apparent reason.
Just sharing in case anyone else has experienced this new feature.
On two recent occasions, my Premiere XL completely stopped responding to remote commands while I was streaming a show from one of my other boxes. Once the show ended, I was then able to once again control the machine normally. Has anyone else experienced something like this?
Does anyone know what the internal temperature should be in the Roamio? Mine is reporting 45 degrees Celsius, while my premieres are in the 30's. I was moving the Roamio and noticed the right side was very warm to the touch.
My dad has Cox video and FIOS internet - for various reasons. The Premiere XL4 has a wireless adaptor to FIOS. Can I install the Moca adaptors between this XL4 and a Mini - and would the XL4 be smart enough to share video through Moca and still use the wireless adaptor to FIOS for Tivo and guide updates?
I jsut replaced a Series 2 with another Series 2. On the one I installed. When I record a shows (I have tried a number of different ones), if I try transferring it to another TIVO, the shows always have a red x next to them and it won't allow the shows to be transferred. I can record the same shows on other TIVOs so it is not a copyright issue, but I am stuck and haven't been able to receive an answere from TIVO support as how to fix the problem.
I would appreciate some help if anyone knows the solution.
I am using the older version pytivo from 2009. I trying to use the newer version but I do not understand some of it.

5. Copy the ffmpeg.exe file from step 5 to \<install folder>\bin\. If the directory does not exist, create it.

8. If you are using Windows Firewall, add a Windows Firewall exception for UDP 5353 so that Windows wont block pyTivos new zeroconf share announcements. (The most common reason pyTivo shares dont show up or disappear from the Now Playing list on the Tivo is firewall blockages)
9. Start pyTivo by executing the file \<install folder>\pytivo.py.
10. Now that it's running, point your browser to http://localhost:9032

I wanted to put a bit of space between my Roamio Basic and my Apple TV and HDMI switch.
I found a wire rack that fit it perfectly, a Rubbermaid "1J2609BLA Small Expandable Wire Helpers Shelf".
The rack has two pieces, a rack with 4 legs and an extension with 2 legs and 2 vertical hooks.
I started with the extension. I wanted a "shorty" rack to being the Roamio up about 1" so as to better place the unit behind the cabinet's glass insert. Bending the vertical hooks straight down was simple. I then cut off the legs to the desired height.
Even easier was the upper rack...just snip the legs off to the right length, replace the rubber feet and it was good to go.
FYI...thanks to the forum for the info about upgrading the Roamio to 3TB. It was super simple.
Also, the HDMI switch is a Sabrent ST-HDMI. It works well and its small lights match the ATV's light perfectly. There's even a profile for it in Logitech's Harmony One's devices list.
Does it matter much whether I create a Favorites guide vs. a My Channels guide? Meaning, would creating a Favorites guide influence my TiVo Suggestions folder? I'd rather it not.
Will tivo ever solve the v301 error code problem? after 3 years i still have problems trying to find music on rhapsody ,because of this problem i'm thinking of switching to directv tivo clearly doesnt seem to care about its tivo fanatics to fix this problem!! :mad:

I have the Roamio and two minis connected over MoCA. In one of the rooms I have a PS3, WD TV Live and an Apple TV. I used to have them connected via Powerline adapter but since now I have MoCA connecting the mini I though maybe I could use the ActionTec to go from MoCA to ethernet by plugging the cable that from the wall to the MoCA Adapter and then the Ethernet cable to an ethernet switch.
Will this kind of setup work?
I can't find an answer on this. Does the Roamio support dynamic tuner allocation out of the box today or is this coming in the fall update?
I have a Roamio Pro and 1 mini. The mini has taken 1 of the 6 tuners in my Roamio so I assume this feature is not yet available.
I have 2 more mini's to set up and wanted to know the answer before I did hook them up.

I got a TiVo HD with cable card, all has been fine with TiVo connecting to service for the last 3 years same router all computer and ipads work fine I am using a wirless g adapter to get service but now TiVo can not connect to the service I get a message connect to network channel info good until 9/20. I rebooted TiVo unplugged adapter rebooted router all the this and not service. So next I get a enternet wire plug that in the back of TiVo. I get this screen connecting preparing ,connection ,getting info ,disconnecting ,loading info all say done. So it goes back to this screen ,next attempt sat 9/14 5:24 last attempt fri 9/13 12:49 last status succeeded. But I still have the message connect to network for channel lineup good until 9/20. Is my TiVo service working now and will this message go away.
I know some are having issues with hubs, I was too. I cut the hub out and went back to the 4 port powerline adapter, but as stated below, its ugly. This unit was had for $62 and is working great, looks good too.
I recently got this from Amazon, and like it so far. Since moving around a lot, Ive just kept Netgear XE-104 powerline adapters going, but to be honest they are ugly. Square box in outlet with 4 Ethernet cables coming out in a living room is not the best. I decided to take a look at what was out there on Amazon, and noticed this setup. The black box looks a LOT better sitting on my stand, and the activity lights are very dim and wont be annoying, unlike the other powerline adapters I have that require Lightdims.
Back offers plugs 1 thru 4, and you can see they are color coded for priority. If you have more than one device hogging bandwidth, it'll spread out out with #1 getting the most and #4 getting the least. The other part that's nice is this does not have to be plugged into the wall itself, it has a normal 6ft power cord and can be placed with options. The direct plug in units can be problematic, especially if you are using surge protection with fat plugs.
