Base Roamio and Streaming

Sat, 08/31/2013 - 14:21
I have a base Roamio and a Tivo Stream coming Tuesday.

Do both of them need to be wired to the router?

I have a Apple Airport extreme and a Apple Airport express currently, with the extreme hooked to the cable modem, and the Express as a (wireless) extension to the network. The express only has connection so if I have to hook both the roamio and the stream up, I am out of luck.

We are cutting Directv and going with a Roamio and 3 Apple TV's, I have the HD Antennas hooked up and all is good there.

Question about Roamio streaming

Sat, 08/31/2013 - 13:03
Hi all,

Current premiere owner here, but highly interested in upgrading to the roamio. I had a couple questions about the streaming capabilities.

1. I know it's possible for all iOS devices, but is it possible to connect one of these devices to a TV via HDMI (and a digital AV adapter with an iPad for example)?

2. Any idea if the streaming will be rolled out to PC/Mac anytime soon much like the slingbox can do?

I want my son who is in college in another state to be able to watch our local NFL team without paying the hefty price for Sunday Ticket - any knowledge on this would be much appreciated, thanks!

Tivo Search

Sat, 08/31/2013 - 13:02
Help please. I am a new Tivo user. I am trying to figure out how to search for shows currently available to watch. For instance, I would like to be able to search for football games that are currently on and viewable, not in the future. Or, search for kids show that are currently on. I have found how to search for shows, but it seems to be search all times and formats and I can not tell if they are on now or in the future. Is there a quick search for shows currently on?

Tivo Roamio Question for Current Owners

Sat, 08/31/2013 - 12:48
I'm interested in a Roamio Plus box. I was wondering if it had the same annoying issue as my XL4. If anyone with a Roamio could test this for me, I would appreciate it.

With the TV Preview window on (upper right corner) while going through a Tivo menu, if you push the live TV button or the guide button, does the TV preview audio stop and then restart and a black screen comes up for a quick moment?

Thanks for anyone who tests this out for me.

Help with kmttg please

Sat, 08/31/2013 - 11:58
Hello everyone,

I have a new Roamio on the way and am trying to set up Kmttg to help me out with my transfers. I have read the instructions a few times now and have seemed to do everything correctly. I am getting errors and cant figure out what to do. I know its something probably pretty easy and I'm missing it. I have pasted the errors below so maybe somebody could point me in the right direction. Thanks

Guide speed on Mini from Roamio

Sat, 08/31/2013 - 11:54
I've noticed that on my two Minis that the guide data is slow to populate compared to when my Minis are connected to my Elites. On my Elites I can go down to the next line and the info on the right is populated in a split second. When the Mini is linked to my Roamio, the info on the right column takes one to two seconds to populate. Could this just be because I recently set up the Roamio PRo and it will speed up in a few days?

It does seem to have guide data out to 9/12. But it is very slow going out that far since it takes 1 to 2 seconds to populate with each change. While when the Mini is connected to the Elite I can change it superfast since the change is almost instant. What speeds are other people seeing with the Mini linked to the Roamio?

Roamio "network status" screen doesn't show MoCA?

Sat, 08/31/2013 - 11:02
I'm using my Roamio Plus as a MoCA to ethernet bridge. However, I don't see the MoCA network statistics page under network status like my XL4 shows. The Roamio displays only ethernet information under network status.

Has Tivo moved the MoCA statistics somewhere else?

ATTENTION:TiVo Support Representatives Dtv no longer trying to support tivo thr22

Sat, 08/31/2013 - 10:27
I have 2 thr22 , and wound up with no on demand for downloads. I have equipment protection extra 7.99 monthly. Call for service and service tech installs 2 hr24's without trying to fix problem, I'm at work get call from my wife as to whats going on I talk to tech he says they can't be fixed.
I told him to leave thr22's behind as I have shows on them I wanted to watch. Called directv get runaround ,get local service area phone number they tell me they only have one thr22 in stock for ny/nj area ? I was told to call back to directv and see about getting tivos fixed. It took me a few days and got a rude liar from tech service. tells me all kinds of bs how I only have 3 days to complain about different dvrs or I am stuck with them.(I did call back within the 3 days) I lose it with him and ask for supervisor. All went well with him. Got referred to different department.
They have me reinstall tivos reactivate them and now are working except really slow hbo, showtime downloads.
I have been told by numerous reps at directv that tivo will no longer be repaired or leased

Opera Developers SDK

Sat, 08/31/2013 - 10:20

Reading up on the standard Opera SDK platform - seems interesting. I am wondering if the will have a TiVo specific library for apps.

I am also hoping TiVo offers some API calls like search and video playback.

I may pull the SDK down and start building a video library to access the content on my server.

My code slinging is pretty rusty - but I am interested in the platform.

What remote control came with which model?

Sat, 08/31/2013 - 10:14
I'm going to be selling my Series 3 boxes on Ebay in the next couple days. Since I use universal remotes throughout my home, I had stashed all the original remotes in a drawer years ago. Unfortunately, I can't remember which remote came with which model. Does anyone have a photo of the remote that came with the original S3s (the ones with the OLED screen on the front)? I also need a photo of the remote that came with the THD XL. Thanks!

Survivor: Older Seasons vs Later Seasons

Sat, 08/31/2013 - 09:54
I'm currently watching season 2 (still into it, so no spoilers, please!) and while I'm enjoying it very much, I think I prefer the later seasons. This season is a lot about the hunger, too much so, imo. There is very little on-air strategy discussion compared to the later seasons I've seen. (Who feels like scheming when you're starving?) The challenges don't seem as intricate or clever or as interesting and of course there's no HII. I like the HII, I think it adds a "wild-card" kind of element to the game.

These earlier seasons were certainly a stripped down, bare-bones version of game play, which has its appeal, but overall I think I prefer the later seasons, where there are more bells and whistles making the game play a bit more complicated.

Static in menus on Roamio Pro?

Sat, 08/31/2013 - 09:46
I only found one other thread that mentioned it, but it was in relation to Xfinity on demand. http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb...d.php?t=507890

Is anyone else getting occasional continuous static in the menus? The only way to stop it once it starts appears to be to switch to live TV or turn on the video window. It never seems to happen if the video window is on though so if you leave the preview window up you wouldn't see it except unless you were in settings. I have had it happen while creating wishlists, creating season passes, and when I selected another TiVo to browse.

I am directly connected to my TV via HDMI with no receiver and previously had a Roku hooked up without issue. I have tried both PCM and Dolby with the same results. It seems to happen instead of a sound effect and then doesn't quit until a video starts playing. I haven't read any reports of it so I am wondering if maybe there is a problem with my Roamio.

Issue Transfering shows between Roamio Pro and Series 3 boxes

Sat, 08/31/2013 - 09:17
I just got my Roamio Pro set up last night. Everything seems to be working fine, except I cannot transfer shows between my old Series 3 boxes and the new Roamio Pro. I can transfer shows between the old Series 3 boxes still.

From all three boxes, I am able to see the other two boxes at the bottom of the Now Playing list.

From the Series 3 box, if I try to select the Roamio, I get a message saying "The <Roamio box name> DVR has no recordings. Press LEFT to return to the Now Playing List." There are, of course, in fact recordings on the Roamio.

From the Roamio, if I try to select either Series 3 box, I get a message saying "The <Series 3 name> DVR's My Shows cannot be displayed because of a network problem. Press LEFT to return to the My Shows List."

From either Series 3 box, if I select the other Series 3 box, I am able to see the list of shows on that box and transfer them without problem.

All three boxes are on the same subnet ( All three have IPs in the 192.168.1.x range. All are hardwired with ethernet to a gigabit switch.

The Roamio Pro and one Series 3 box are plugged into the same switch. The other Series 3 is in a different room, plugged into a different switch. (These two switches are connected together.) Again, I have no problems transferring shows between the two Series 3 boxes, so the switch config is not the issue. Furthermore, I cannot transfer shows between the Roamio and the Series 3 box that are on the same switch.

I have looked at the help on the Tivo site.

Multi-Room Viewing Troubleshooting is not much help. The first section talked about generic problems. All three boxes support MRV, all have an active Lifetime sub, all are set to allow transfers (though I will note that the setting is now called "Video Sharing"), all have a current software version higher than 9.1 (11.0k for the series 3, and 20.3.6 for the Roamio), all are on the same tivo account, all are on the same subnet, all have the same Media Access Key, and none have special characters in the name (unless a space is a special character, which all three boxes have, but it doesn't seem to hamper the two series 3's from transferring to each other). TivoToGo is a,a,a for all three boxes.

Multi-Room Advanced Help talks about additional help for Roamios with sufficient software version, but my box doesn't seem to be doing what it says.

"From TiVo Central > Settings & Messages > Help > Whole Home View… > Streaming Between TiVo Boxes > Multi-room Advanced help"

I go to the Help menu, and I don't see a "Whole Home View..." list, just "Whole Home". Selecting it allows me to select a "Streaming Between Tivo Boxes" item, but there is no "Multi-room Advanced help" option underneath it. It just shows some of the same debugging info as related above from the TiVo web site. Selecting "Transferring between TiVo boxes" (which is what I am actually trying to do) provides some generic debugging info, none of which is relevant to my problem.

In neither case have I been able to get it to generate the "Information displayed on the Multi-Room Advanced Help menu" information, which is supposed to list all the DVRs on the network, along with their various stream and transfer diagnostics.

So, I'm at a loss. Any suggestions before I try calling TiVo?

This is important to me because the Roamio is replacing one of the two Series 3 boxes, but I still have a bunch of shows on the old box I want to watch before I sell it or give it away. Unfortunately, because of my setup, it's not very convenient for me to keep them both actually connected to the TV full time, so I was planning to just keep the Series 3 connected to the network, and just transfer the shows over (either in bulk, or as I am watching them). I'd also prefer not to transfer them to the other series 3, since it's in a bedroom where I don't do a lot of comfortable TV watching.

What part of "fixed" does TiVo not get?

Sat, 08/31/2013 - 08:52
I've always set my TiVos to output a constant resolution, to avoid the flicker that accompanies a mode change. Currently, I have a Premiere set to use only 1080i, and a Roamio set exclusively to 1080p60 (on two different TVs). Yet, sometimes I still see the flicker, on both these units.

It only happens with some network-transferred videos, which cause the flicker just as I start them. The sad thing is that the before and after resolutions are the same -- the TiVo is technically obeying my settings, but still invoking an unnecessary mode change, to switch from one resolution to the same resolution.

Roamio Pro and Tivo Stream on same network?

Sat, 08/31/2013 - 08:42
Just got a roamio pro up and running last night. Downloading shows to my ipad mini worked flawlessly.

But i still have a Tivo XL4 in the bedroom that i would like to occasionally download shows to my iPad... i have a tivo stream i was using before the roamio pro... if i plug that back in and put on network, will i be able to stream/download shows from my XL4 to my ipad mini? And how will that affect streaming/downloading from Roamio Pro? Does the ipad tivo app just automatically know which device (roamio built-in, tivo stream for XL4) to use for streaming/downloading from each individual box?

Anybody had success with such a setup yet?

Can't get my TiVoCasts in HD

Sat, 08/31/2013 - 08:37
I had decided to transfer some of my video podcast subscriptions from my S3 to my Roamio. And by "transfer", I mean redo them on the new box. I noticed that the old "Web Videos" HME app doesn't seem to be available anywhere on the Roamio (?), but under Download Manager, it said to use Search.

So, I searched for "Tekzilla". It came up in the results, and it had a little "HD" logo on it. Great, I thought -- subscribe. But to my dismay, when I looked at the downloaded video, it was 480p. Meanwhile, my S3 is still downloading new episodes in 720p, so I know it's not that they're unavailable or that the feed changed.

There was only one search result for Tekzilla, and there was no option to select the resolution. Is there a way around this?

(The same thing happened with "HD Nation", which is why I said "TiVoCasts". But I quit trying after seeing those two.)

Will tivo ever stream media from a computer like Apple tv vs transfer?

Sat, 08/31/2013 - 08:11
I have Apple TV and TiVo and I love both for individual reasons, hbo go is nice on Apple TV, Spotify is nice on TiVo.
Apple TV is nice because it doesn't have internal storage and playing a video is dependent on wifi connection.
TiVo to play a file on desktop you need to transfer it first but once it's there can play without buffering but then it takes space on your TiVo hard drive.

Curious if Tivo will ever stream media from a computer like Apple tv vs transfer and take up space.

Picture quality on 60" plus displays

Sat, 08/31/2013 - 05:35
I notice a slight picture improvement with the Roamio over the S3, but maybe that is my imagination. The dell 50" is starting to act up and I am planning on replacing it. My question is can I go too big? I have a large room that I am considering a Panasonic plasma ST60 60-65". Will broadcast (comcast) HD quality suffer if I go 65"?
