I have pretty much decided to come back after my commitment ends, but I was wondering... Is there a real difference in the Roamio vs Premeire UI. I know the Roamy is faster but the price is the premier is significantly less. I asked Tivo the question through chat and all they gave me were hardware specs.
Is there any difference in the UI itself? This question is especially for folks that have done the upgrade.... Can you articulate why its worth it? I am coming directly from dish. I imagine the speed of the premier will actually be faster than what we are currently using.
I know we have a thread for HDD questions but it is too long to dig in to find the answer to a simple question..
Has anybody tried swapping out the drive in a Roamio Plus for a larger one?
Since the Tivo website redesign the lineup issue page does not work for me. Mediacom did their digital upgrade here and I've tried three times to submit the changes over the last two weeks. When I hit submit I get sent to the "UH OH! Looks like you're lost." page and I don't get the auto-generated ack e-mail as I have in the past. Has anyone else been able to use it since the new site went live?
Please confirm what I believe I can accomplish. I have a TIVO Roamio Plus. I have no wired internet where I want to place it. I believe that MoCA is supposed to provide that function but needs to be set up in a room with both wired internet and coax. Is that correct? Then if I take it to the room with no wired internet but coax, I can stream via MoCA over coax? I've tried but haven't been successful in the setup but I think an earlier post addressed my problem which is that my cable TV and cable modem are provided by different providers. Before I start crawling around to find my TV input, are my assumptions correct?

I've noticed several times where a suggestion is deleted as soon as it finishes recording from my Roamio Pro. Note that this doesn't happen with every suggestion recorded. FYI, my hard drive has 99% free space. I've never seen this behavior with my XL4. Anyone else seen this?
Do the new Tivos work completely wifi now? I don't use wifi at home. Everything is hard wired. Only one Tivo working now and think it's ready to go.
Is there a way for the Mini to automatically go to Live TV when I turn on the TV? Instead of having to press Live tv. I don't mind if it takes one of the Roamio's tuner permanently.
Anyone using the Harmony Smart Control with Roamio? I have to place the Harmony Hub fairly close to the Roamio. And often times, there is a delay with pressing the key or I have to press it a few times. I was using it with a PremiereXL and didn't have any of these issues at all.
I currently have Fios with 1 DVR and 3 cable boxes and considering the new Roamio Pro. I have some questions if someone can help.
My main TV room with the DVR is not near my FIOS wireless router, but another TV with a cable box is right next to the router. Can I plug the TiVo Pro into the router there and use a mini and have all the functions of that box on my main TV through the mini? Or would I be better off buying a MOCA and installing it up there and using the TiVo Pro in my main TV room?
Would it be wise to replace all my Fios equipment with a Roamio Pro and mini's? Is there anything I lose?
Last question, can I access my local channels when out of town through the Roamio so as to watch my local sports teams, news etc.?
TiVo needs to add native DNLA support for both the Roamio and Mini. There are clearly a number TiVo customers that what this supported and have had to rely on 3rd party products like pytivo and streambaby. DNLA simply needs to be natively supported.
My Roamio Pro did not record Breaking Bad last night. I checked the history, and the reason given was "Channel Not Authorized." The channel in question is 479 -AMCPHD. I can watch that channel live without a problem and it is checked as a channel that I receive. I have been recording this channel on my TiVo HD for years. What would cause the Roamio to label it "Not Authorized" and not record it?
I have trying to access Tivo search for several days and keep getting the message that our systems are currently unavailable,PLease check back later! ... in a cheery tone. The top of the window says scheduled maintenance. Seems suspect that this maintenance has been going on for days. Is anyone else seeing this when trying to use Tivo Search or is it just me? I have restarted the unit - no love.
The info button gives you where you are in the show but takes about 4 pushes to get rid of UI (plush you have to do the math to tell how many minutes are left). There are various buttons that pause the show which tell you how many minutes you have seen and how many minutes are left. I would like this view but I don't want to actually pause the movie. I've tried many buttons and haven't found one that gives me what I want without pausing the show.
At all times of the day, it tells m that program content is "to be announced". I have Comcast digital cable in Brookline, MA. :mad:
I received my Roamio on Friday (9/30). I also have a Premiere, TiVo HD, & Original Series 3 all used for OTA only, on the same TV, & fed from the same 4 way splitter.
OTA Reception Observations: As a point of reference I have intermittent multi path issues and my Series 3 units handle my issues better than my Premiere. Based on the last 3 days the Roamio is better at OTA reception than all my other units. In use the Roamio appeared to be about the same as my Series 3 units (they all were receiving the same channels, as normal the Premiere was missing one of them), however using the signal strength meter on all my units and stepping through each channel (including the ones I don't get) the Roamio was able to lock on several channels that the Series 3 units (and Premiere) could not lock on at all, however the signals were still too weak to produce a watchable picture.General Observations:
- I setup my Roamio without buying service and was surprised to find the only think that worked was the tuner - it would not record or provide access to any apps without service
- Upon ordering Lifetime service it only took secs for the box to be activated. In less than 1 hour I was able to transfer files from my other DVRs and computer. I was also able to transfer seasons passes on line and setup podcast downloads.
- Boot time is about 3.5 minutes.
- I could not change the Roamio's remote address with the Roamio's remote. Of course my other TiVos did not respond to the Roamio's remote however the Roamio did respond to all my other TiVo's remotes.
- The coax cable end and area around the tuner connection is worm to hot and much wormer than any of my other TiVos.
- Streaming a show from my Premiere actually provides a superior experience as compared to using the Premiere directly. Accessing the Premiere from the Roamio is like accessing a menu option on the Roamio itself - fast.
File Transfer Rates (MRV), all values are rounded to a whole number:
- Roamio to Computer = 93 Mb/s (using free TiVo desktop)
- Computer to Roamio = 93 Mb/s (file was uploaded to computer from Premiere using TiVo Desktop).
- Premiere to Roamio = 80 Mb/s
- TiVo HD to Roamio = 30 Mb/s
- Original Series 3 to Roamio = 30 Mb/s
- Series 2 to Roamio = 3 Mb/s (yes that is correct).
Conclusion: The Roamio appears to be an excellent OTA DVR. It is fast and a joy to use.
So I'm purging my Premiere XL4 and will be getting it up for sale on Craigslist or eBay soon. I also have a Stream that needs to go. Will I fetch more for the Stream if I sell it separately than if I include it with the XL4?
I bought the Roamio Plus today. Everything went fine with installation, except for my existing expander which shows as "unsupported" in my Roamio.
It is the same expander (approved by Tivo) that I have been using with my Premiere 4. I made sure I unpaired it from my P4 prior to hooking it up to my Roamio. Roamio recognizes it on the pop up screen, however, it shows it as "unsupported" when I try to set it up.
I called Tivo and they could not figure it out. They said it may be a problem with the hard drive, which I doubt it since it was working great until I got the Roamio.
Any idea on how to fix this?
God issues all the time, over priced Services and OUTDATED Equipment!
I have been a TiVo Customer Since 1st Box Rolled out, it cost A lot a was Giant but worked 100X Better than these boxes! You always blame every issue on Cable but Always you and after paying $40 a month for another 2 years plus buying New Boxes Again you want me to pay 100s Again?

Before Direct Tv took Over you guys were worth it but now I can get 4 shows record free with Cable Dvr and I can with service I pay a large month fee for and always Glitches!
Plus Netflix, Hulu, Rhapsody, ect and Cable I'm paying $300 a month a can't get current Equipment?
It's not I can't afford it,
It's the principle, in a time when everything's obsolete every couple yrs and cost $2 bucks to make you think TiVo would be more interested in collecting its staggeringly high monthly fees
Then pushing out life long Customers they stepped on to get here!
I am so. Disappointed in TiVo, as well as feel gauged for equipment replacements!
