Just replaced my router with a new ASUS RT-N66U. For everything on the network other than Tivo it is working great.
Except none of the Tivos can complete a connection.
Tivo reports Failed during configuring. Or on trying to test the network connection it reports failed to obtain account status.
I can see the TiVo's on the network. All three are configured with static IP addresses. Kmttg can download from them. I can see pytivo and pull a video. Cannot push as none of my TiVos are connecting with the service.
Is there some incompatibility of this router with Tivo or my ATT DSL connection? I did read some earlier posts about setting MTU to 1492 for a DSL connection but this router has no settings for MTU other than for PPOE connections which does not apply to me. Perhaps just the wrong router?
My previous Linksys E3200 router works but has gotten very slow. If not the ASUS, can someone recommend a new router that has decent performance and configurable QoS?
I have the XL4 and just got the Mini for my other bedroom (office). I m returning my cable DVR and have an old Series 1 in that room which is being retired. So I got the Mini since I don't need to record in that room.
I figured I could hook it up and at least access the XL4 TiVo recordings until I get the subscription. I called TiVo support and they said that it won't work unless I pay for the monthly/lifetime service.
I was wondering if that is the case, or can the Mini be used kind of like a transfer device to view pre recorded shows on the TV it's connected to.
I plan on getting the lifetime service in a couple of months, but for now, I wanted to see if the Mini would work for viewing recordings only until then.
I was looking at my Amazon account the other night and discovered that I had written a review of my original Philips Tivo from 2000. It's amazing to think that 30 hours of hard drive space (of course it was basic quality!) was considered a lot back then.

Wow! I've had my Philips TiVo unit since December (my Christmas present to myself) and I have been quite impressed with it and think this is the greatest entertainment device since DirecTV.
I have the 30 hour unit which gives me a lot of room of programming. I generally record movies under the Best Quality setting and other programming under the other settings.
The other features I like are the Season Pass, the ability to pause live television and video quality and sound. The Season Pass feature enables me to never ever have to worry about having a tape in the vcr to tape programming or setting the timer In my life, I don't have the time to spend worrying about videotape.
Being a movie buff and a sports nut, the pause button comes in handy frequently when watching live television. One thing that I've done while watching sports is rewinding back to catch some of the action, thus avoiding commericals.
And finally the video/sound quality is outstanding. I have my TiVo hooked up to my home theatre system and the sound quality is not altered.
The drawbacks of the TiVo unit are trivial in my eyes, but I will point them out for the benefit of others who have DirecTV. If you have a DirecTV system or other DSS, you will find that it will take quite some time for the unit to index the channels/programs when initially setting it up. Patience is necessary. Second, do not ever turn off your DSS receiver. This will cause the TiVo unit to freeze the next time you attempt to use it.
I have no regrets with my decision to purchase the Philips TiVo unit and highly recommend it. You can finally control television instead of it controlling you.
I am ditching Comcast (good riddance!) and switching to an HDTV antenna. However, I still have one analog TV connected to a Series 2 TiVo, and it looks like there's not a very good selection of digital tuners available these days.
What tuner would you recommend for me to connect a Series 2 TiVo to an HD antenna?
Despite that extra weaKnees space on one of my old TiVo Series2 units I need to offload some programming, while at the same time I have a friend offering a Western Digital WD TV Live Hub. Ive used a bunch of tools over the years to get things onto my Mac, usually grabbing things with a browser and doing conversions later, sometimes watching those 4GB movies turn into 30GB mov files after demuxing sound. During the TiVo Cookie Monster Scare in mid February (yes, got fixes) I looked at kmttg and oh, man, that be a whole lot of decryption and conversion choices.
My desire is lossless final output aimed at high-def television, and Im trying to sort past all the ipad and droid choices to figure out what kmttg option would be a good match for the WD TV Live Hub (which apparently wont play MPEG2 directly) to my TV set. I was thinking maybe what I want is the hb_television setting (mkv/h.264/aac files) Am I getting warm? Better choice for a high def TV set final output?
I've been using followshows.com for my fav series. It's ok but doesn't offer many options. Does anyone know of any similar sites that also offer email notifications of your favorite series season premiers and finales? That would be great. Thanks.

I see that TiVo and Virgin Media are in Partnership in the UK and the new models in the US look awesome. What I would like to see is TiVo to release Australian version of their Premiere, mini and stream.

Anyone having this issue? I'm on Comcast, Chicago. For the past few weeks, this show has been recording old shows a bunch (4 or 5 episodes) every Saturday night. The show airs Sunday nights. This is really annoying. :down:
So, apparently the person at my local mediacom office gave me a cablecard that's paired with a set-top box. So on my account, I'm still being charged for the box, and not just a cablecard ($15 vs $2). I need to swap out the cablecard currently in my tivo for a new one (which i have) that's a standalone card.
My question is, is there anything special I have to do?
I'm assuming I need to power off TiVo, and do the swap, and go through guided setup again. Or at least the cablecard configuration.
Does anyone know?
Searching didn't seem to turn up this info, so I'm wondering if anybody knows where the temperature sensor is located in a TiVo HD unit.
When I woke up 6/21 the TiVo was endlessly rebooting. The temperature in the room was a few degrees higher than usual, so I lowered the room temperature and the TiVo agreed to start working again. It continued to work fine all day and night. The room temperature was allowed to rise a few degrees again overnight, and this morning the TiVo was failing again. Lowering the room temperature just a few degrees again got it out of its rebooting loop.
The TiVo is reporting an internal temperature 6-8 C higher than usual. Normally the temperature is 36-38 C, but now it's 44-45 C once it warms up. It seems to start rebooting once it goes over 46 C.
Cleaning out what little dust was inside made no difference. I already clean it at least twice a year with an ESD-safe vacuum. I also already had two extra fans in the unit (a small one on the heatsink on the motherboard, and a second 60mm fan in the front of the power supply since there are vent/intake holes there). The hard drive isn't the problem, it has been checked. There are no obviously bad capacitors on the power supply.
While I suspect the power supply is probably responsible for this situation, I am very suspicious of the increase in the detected internal temperature and would like to investigate it further. There's no way the air inside of the case should be 6-8 C higher than usual, so I'm guessing the sensor is failing, or something is running much hotter than usual, or maybe the heatsink on the motherboard isn't making good thermal contact anymore. If something specific is getting too hot, it's probably near the sensor since everything inside that I consider safe to touch while the TiVo is running feels normal.
Any help would be appreciated before I seriously consider tracking down a replacement power supply. :)
Ok, so in Philly, Comcast has moved alot of the channel lineup around, before for instance, channel 301 might have been HBO and Channel 310 might have been HBO HD. If you have one of their boxes, there is a little menu that pops up and prompts you to watch in HD if you want.
Before I was under the assumption that this went to another channel, actually it doesn't, it just converts to a HD stream instead. This shocked me because I actually thought Comcast was just being crappy and didn't have all the channels in HD.
Is there any default way to Comcast to just broadcast HD channels, or am I stuck essentially not getting all my HD premium channels because the TiVo box is unable to switch each channel from SD to HD.
I had started a Clear & Delete Everything on my TiVo Series 2 when the power went out to my house. When it came back on the TiVo would not start, and flashes the red record light.
I assume I need to reload the system image. I have another TiVo Series 2 with a different size HDD. Can I make a backup of that system image and restore it to the damaged TiVo? Any other suggestions on where to get the system image and do this myself? Thanks.
I guess the title says it all. I have had Tivo's since D* took them on. Never, repeat, never had any problems with them. I waited, and waited, to get the HD Tivo and last year I finally got it.
What a disappointment. I have had all the problems mentioned in this forum at one time or another. I am sick of it.
So...what to do? I am wondering about the HR44 if I could get it. Now I have one and only one tv in my house, and no plans to change that. Would the HR44 be overkill? What other unit should I try to get if that is the case?
And lastly I do have the lifetime DVR service so what extra fees for the HR44would I incur if that unit would be practical?

You got to see this. No live padding in Europe. The DVRs know when shows actually start and actually end.
Why Do Americans Have the Worst DVRs?
Our digital recorders cut off the last minutes of sporting events and our favorite shows. That doesnt happen in Europe.
No clipping either because broadcasters don't follow the scheduled times and try to make programs run together - starting them 30 seconds early or ending them 40 seconds late.
Key Points: European countries have an embedded signal saying what program is on. Tivo's can use that signal to start and end recordings on time. US networks don't want us to have this for some reason.
I've had Streambaby working for several weeks on new computer until this evening.
It starts up as a service and is running. However, it sees the folder, sees the MP4 files fine.
Then when I attempt to play the file I get "please wait" until a V01 error (service unavailable) appears after several minutes.
I do have port 7290 open as TCP. This has worked fine for weeks until now.
Is the issue related to Pytivo push of videos? I am wondering if there could be a conflict between the 2 apps somehow?

Rather than forcing TV watchers to pad their recordings manually, broadcasters could send a signal to cable and satellite providers when a program begins and another when it ends. Your DVR would grab these signals, ensuring that it starts each recording when it should start and ends it when should endnot at some (often-wrong) scheduled time, but at the real time.
