Multiple remotes

I have a premiere Xl. I have connected a wireless HDMI device to it so that I can share e TiVo signal on 2 TVs, in 2 different rooms.

The TiVo is installed in a cabinet and originally had a Bluetooth slider remote to control it.

In reading the forums it looks like you can't add a second slider to the TiVo, even if you use 2 dongles. Since mine is buried in the back of a cabinet, can someone verify this? If that is the case, what is your recommendation for a second remote?

It will need to be Bluetooth or have an ir blaster type of feature.


tivo locks up

have had the premier for a few months, time warner cable, no problems.

yesterday, while playing a netflix stream, image froze. tivo would not respond to any buttons. did a cold boot by removing power cord, went through the whole boot-up and worked fine

today, it would not come out of standby (green light showing), no response to any buttons, again re-boot, worked ok

until it again froze midway through playing a recorded show (show was still being recorded) again a cold boot and now it is working

any advice?


HDMI (receiver) causes Tivo reboot?

I experienced something that I consider rather odd:

My Tivo (Elite) suddenly started to misbehave and apparently not respond to remote commands. It then rebooted and kept rebooting. So I called Tivo tech support and they decided the unit would need to be replaced.

Luckily, I had an old Tivo HD so I plugged it in and this unit also kept rebooting. Long story short, I finally linked this to the HDMI ports on my receiver. For some reason, connecting to any receiver HDMI would cause Tivos to constantly reboot. A reboot of the receiver fixed the issue.

I again called Tivo to cancel replacement request and also asked tech support why HDMI would cause reboots. Got a bunch of nonsense answers such as "Well, HDMI is a good protocol but you need to check your power strip etc"

Does anyone know why HDMI would be causing Tivo reboots? It was certainly not affecting other HDMI connected devices (e.g., a BluRay player).

That was total BS. Congratulations for being a great team and working together through great obstacles when the other two teams completely fell apart under the same circumstances. Instead of just letting you split the money, like you would have if the other teams hadn't imploded, you're now going to fight each other for the prize.

I'm not sure why this aggravated me so much... the two "losers" didn't seem bothered by it at all. I really think it's wrong to change the rules in the last few hours of a competition like this. You start as a team and you should finish as a team.

Replacement power chord for Mini?

The Mini's Power cord plug is not very conducive to fitting behind a close to wall flat panel TV wall outlet.

In other words, it's too fat to fit into a recessed wall outlet box.
Can I use something else? If so what?

TiVo Premiere Netflix App

How do I get back to my instant queue after a show completes? Right now the app seems to freeze, and in order to watch another show I have to press the TiVo button, restart the Netflix app, and then choose the next episode. I've tried the stop, pause, and play buttons. I've tried the nav arrows. I don't know what else to try, and it really seems like something ought to get me back there without needing to restart the whole thing.

how to test premiere drive

I have a WD AV drive that may be going bad (under one year old) - what is the best software to test the drive with, assuming I pulled it from the Premiere in question.
Or, is it better to test it while still installed in the Premiere?
I assumed it would be faster using PC software, externally mounted.

PS - I am trying the amber light/pause/kickstart code thing, but can't get past the green screen of death

Can you tell on the Program Description if the movie or program is being broadcast in 5.1? I only see "Dolby Digital" when I go down to Dolby ICON.

I have an odd problem. I have a Series3 HD 32hr Model tcd648250B. I have three older hard drives that are 1 tb 1 tb and 240 g. They all boot up fine in the tivo. I am trying to put a brand new wd green 1 tb in this unit. I have tried winmsf copy and backup and restore to the new drive and when I put the new drive in, the tivo first splash screen shows up and never goes any further then this. The lights on the front stay on and never change. I even bought the instant back for this unit and baked the new wd hard drive and have the same effect. I hear lots about power supplies, but the other three older hd's boot fine. I have also tried mfslive 1.4 backup/restore and same effect. Any suggestions?

Shows not deleting from or showing up in My Shows list

I've been having an issue with programs not deleting from My Shows and newly recorded shows not showing up.

When I go to delete something, it will just put the X next to the show but it will not move to the deleted folder. New programs do not show up in My Shows and there is even no history of them being recorded.

I can restart the TiVo and then everything works right for a while. All the shows that it had recorded but were not being listed now show up. It is normal for a period of time, sometimes very short, sometimes a few hours, and then has the issue again.

When this happens, it won't let me create, delete or change season passes.

Anyone have any experience with this? It's been happening for a month or so, possibly since the most recent update. Getting very frustrating. Thought I would come here first before trying my luck with tech support. Thanks.

Tivo blinking off then back on

Every time I go from our TV input to Tivo input the TV Display will blink off then back on once. This will happen if I first go to 'Live TV' or 'Menu'.

It has been happening for the last couple of days.

Anyone else having this issue?

Been awhile since I used a Premier. I would often buy HD TV Shows on Amazon and either manual or auto download (tv pass) to my premier, but I had an XL.

Was kinda curious how many one hour HD episodes I could fit on the standard 500gig drive.

Noticing on the xfinity listings that tomorrow's race (7:30 am ON CNBC) is incorrectly listed as a track and field event, so if you have a season pas set for "Formula One Racing", you might miss it. There are reruns later on NBCSN that are listed correctly, but still.

I got one for less than the listing price by emailing the vendor and negotiating. The unit arrived in two days by priority mail. It's a brand new item and I had it up and running in less than an hour after the postman delivered it.

TivoHD -> Premiere 4 - Netflix blackouts

I recently replaced my tivoHD with a premiere 4 due to mpeg 4 streams. I still don't have my m cablecard but I'm watching netflix and every few minutes the screen turns blank, not audio for like a half a second. I never had this issue on my tivoHD. It's incredibly annoying. Is this a known issue or is there a problem with my Internet connection?

I can't stop rewatching 'Malcolm In The Middle'

The last week I've been watching marathon sessions of Malcolm In The Middle, from the beginning. I just finished Season 4 Episode 10 right now and am about to move to episode 11.

I miss this show so much. I haven't seen a single bad episode yet.

I can't believe US releases of the show on disc, other than season 1, are still held up, allegedly, by excessive music licensing costs. There's so little music actually in the episodes. It's at least good to see the folks in the UK are finally getting a chance to see it though.

Moving from Comcast to DirecTV. Need some guidance!

Hello All,

I currently have one each of a Series 1, Series 2 (both Sonys) and the original Series 3 TiVo w/ 2 cable cards, all working with my Comcast. Both the Series 1 and Series 2 are using Comcast's Digital Adapters, receiving more than just the basic channels. I can use my TiVo remotes with them, and all works just fine.

Except for the Comcast pricing.

I was looking at what all my neighbors have: DirecTV, but none of them have TiVos... just the DirecTV company's current DVR.

Here's what I would like to know...

If I jump the Comcast ship, I can get the DirecTivo HD for (I believe) $199.

What would I need to do for the other TV's upstairs? I would only want very limited channels... equivalent to basic. I'd have to give the Comcast Digital Adapters back.

Is there such a thing as plugging in the coax from the Directv into the back of the Series 1 and Series 2 to get ANYTHING at all? I could be wrong, but I thought I remembered seeing, during the start-up process, a choice for DirecTV... but maybe not.

If the regular coax won't produce any results, what is the DirecTV equivalent to the Comcast Digital Adapter? Something bare minimum (Comcast charged me $0.50 each for theirs) just to get the basics up and running on that TiVo.

Lastly... do any of these boxes need a phone line to update, or am I thinking about something else altogether.

I've been a long-time member of this forum, helping whenever I could.... now it's time that I need to ask for help! And, of course, thanks in advance!!!

series 2 won't boot up

I got a R10 that suddenly gives the message "powering up" and then "just a few more minutes" and when it normally goes to Directv is comes back with "no signal". The green light is on but will not communicate. I attached a rf satellite finder and booted up with it inline. This is the first time I used this meter. Could I have shorted out the power supply or does this sound like something else?

Networked TiVo's not showing up in each other's Now Playing

Seems to be related to the software settings at tivo.com as far as I can tell.

I have rebooted both systems and when they come up, they can see each other in the Now Playing list and shows transfer just fine. But, give it a few minutes after the reboot for them to ping tivo.com again and then it goes away from the NP list.

Any ideas?

This has been working for a long time, so I'm not sure what's up.
