Checked the top questions thread and the possible solution link there is broken, so here I am. :(
My older DirecTV serial connection boxes (DRD523RB & DRD503RBC) are finally being phased out. DirecTV shipped a couple free reconditioned SD boxes, but there have no serial connections (D12-100). So now how do I control a non-serial SD STB from my Series 2 Humax boxes?
I have a DRT400F and a T2500. I currently use their USB ports to connect them to my WiFi so they update their guides.
The Patterson serial/usb converter is no longer available and I have no experience putting DirecTV boxes on my network or doing any of the "coding" I have been reading about online, to either box (STB or TiVo). The most I have ever done with these boxes is upgrade the HDs in the TiVos.
1) Is there a simple hardwire solution to let my Series 2 boxes control these D12 non-serial boxes?
2) Does it use the current Series 2 control port, or do I have to use the USB on BOTH the DirecTV box and the TiVo?
3) If I have to utilize the USB on the Series 2, am I now forced to use the phone jack to allow the box to download new guide info & updates?
Thanks for the help.
I've had the occasional TiVo customer call in and inquire about the games accessible on the TiVo. They seem to be more popular than I was expecting, and more than once I've heard a customer opine about the selection of games. Meaning they wanted more. In general, the more frequent TiVo game users appear to be either age-advanced or elderly, predating even the Atari or Calecovision generation!
So I thought I'd suggest something along the lines of simple multiplayer games. Like a few different card games. Something relatively simple where the rules are already commonly understood. I believe it would get quite a bit of use!
I am an employee of a telecom company out on the eastern seaboard. I am not here in any kind of official capacity, of course, but here to do some digging around and getting familiar more with the technical end of the TiVo product. I'm sort of doing research on my own so as to become a go-to guy here for TiVo related situations.
Had one installed myself, and I love it. I think I had my TiVo for all of three days before I chucked out my old VCR. Didn't even see if there was a tape in there first. Didn't care. Didn't seem particularly relevant.
Do the TiVo corporate folks visit these forums, or is this largely a TiVo aficionado-run site?
Anyways, just wanted to say hello!
"Maron" on IFC is pretty good if you're a fan of the WTF podcast.
Think of Marc Maron as Larry David without the loudness, money or wife.
"This is sad." "I mean, it's sad that you came here."
"Yeah, Marc, I'm pregnant just to get you."
Set a SP, or check it out online on on VoD.
(I didn't realize that I hadn't selected IFC or Sundance on my channel list on Uverse. Duh!)
May 4, 2013: Both my TiVo's just reported that they downloaded and installed the Fall 2012 update:
Your TiVo DVR was updated!
You now have the Fall 2012 update.
Here is my current software version under Account & System Info:
Both TiVo's are Premiere (Series4). I already got this update last fall.
Is something wrong?
It plays on the Audience Channel (channel 101 and others). My short description would be Transamerica meets Weeds meets Goodfellas meets Shameless. IMDB describes it as:
HIT AND MISS, from Paul Abbott, creator of Shameless and State of Play, is a high concept and ambitious new series that follows Chloë Sevigny as Mia, a contract killer with a secret: shes a transgender woman. Mia's life is sent into a tailspin when she receives a letter from an ex-girlfriend dying from cancer revealing that Mia fathered a son eleven years ago. Faced with a difficult decision, Mia becomes the guardian to a new family forcing her to mix her killer instincts with her newly developing maternal instincts. HIT AND MISS tells the story of a lethal killer at the heart of a troubled family and how all of their lives will be dramatically changed forever.
I'm really enjoying it. The transgender bit is not much of a spoiler since the first 10 seconds of episode 1 has a full frontal of Chloe Sevigny and her weewee. If you enjoy seeing Chloe nude there are a number of other such shots. For the more cerebral, it's rated 7.6 on IMDB.
My PXL that I've had for a couple years this morning (2:55) did a "random restart" which it has done before but this time I get a message "installing update could take a few minutes". After restart I have a message that my PXL now has the Fall 2012 update and goes on to explain the "features" - Parental Control vs Kidzone etc.
Hours later I check Network Connection and I get last attempt 5/03 (9:03 AM) "succeeded". I checked the connections because when I access the HELP function on the PXL it shows my P-Elite is connected by MOCA which it has never been. It's been "hard-wired" Ethernet since day one except when TiVo asked I install a wireless N to try and "trick" the Elite into displaying the correct Ethernet connection when the N was removed and the Ethernet conected again and set-up rerun. Of course that "didn't work".
What gives with my most recent "adventure"?
my trusty Tivo Premiere has died just 16 days after its three-year warranty ran out (one year plus two years extended).
what are the odds of that? lol
displaying the dreaded "Welcome- Starting Up" screen permanently.
question: has anyone had luck arguing for a repair this soon after the warranty dies? The last few times I talked with Tivo CSR's I'd say that's a big no-candoo, but if anyone has suggestions before I remove the drive, I'm all ears.
I think it might be helpful to have a list of Mini issues that can possibly be made as a sticky in this forum, as I have observed several issues with the Mini that are not going to get sorted anytime soon.
1. Sometimes Mini starts playback from host Elite, you see a spinning wheel, and it won't playback. Reboot is the only thing I've found that sorts this.
2. With some TVs (like my 42" Panasonic) the Mini seems to have a resume/handshake issue with the TV on occasion when switching from another input back to the input the Mini is on. The result is a black screen on the TV. I have been able to sort this by unplugging the HDMI cable and plugging it back in. Annoying.
3. On two occasions recordings that were started from the Mini could not be played back on either the host DVR or the Minis.
If anyone has any other ones I will go ahead and add them to this list.
Like many of you, I have been extremely frustrated by the fact that you can't access Amazon Prime content on the Premiere. I finally broke down and bought a Roku 3 the other day, and all I can say is ... OMG!!! The thing is so much better than the TiVo when it comes to accessing the various streaming services. I mean, it's not even close! The interface on the Roku is fast and responsive, and the streams load WAY faster. For only $100, the Roku is an absolute steal. :)
I'm surprised that there weren't more threads about this excellent series. I found a few episode review but nothing for a few months. We had a marathon of the last three episodes and can't wait for 2014 when the series continues.
IMHO, two of the greatest moves in Survivor both involve the suprise playing of two idols at TC - Malcom's this season and Parvati's in season whatever. IIRC, Parvati either won that year or at least made it to the final. So her move paid off. Malcom's, otoh, has already been diminished by his being voted out the very next TC. Even worse, he was in a prime position, having a clue to the hidden idol in the next episode, to protect himself. He should have, at the very least, continued to look for the idol at some point, whether Andrea was there or not. If the choice was definitely no chance at the idol - by not looking for it - vs possibly finding it before Andrea, he should have kept looking. Half a chance is better than none. He should have known he was an obvious target and needed that idol.
If at least one of the "3 Amigos" makes it to the final, then, yeah, the move holds up somewhat, but if none of them make it, then Malcom's move has no real follow-through, compared to Parvati's, and her's remains the single greatest move in Survivor lore. Yeah, they were both great theater, but Parvati's was part of a strategy that worked, whereas Malcom's, not so much.
Hello everyone. I'm new to the forums. I hope somebody out there can help me. My premiere XL TCD748000 hard drive went dead and I need an image to install on a new drive. Instant cake does have a disc for my series Tivo. Can someone help please!
This is for my newly acquired TCD652160 which I installed a 2tb WD drive into and seems to have gone smoothly...but...
Sometime in the middle of the night it restarts and gets stuck on Powering Up. If I unplug it and plug it back in it boots fine. This has happened twice and I'll of course see if it happens again tonight but has anyone else had this happen? Is there maybe a sleep function on the WD drives?
Is this a sign of a dying power supply? How can I test things to determine what the problem really is?
I am not embarrassed to admit I watch both of these shows. It is mindless drivel that puts me to sleep in about 11 minutes. 2.5 Men is all but unwatchable at this point (Alan is the only character onscreen that I have wanted to see tortured and then put out of his misery...I hope the actor is just that good.)
I thought it notable that their story lines this week were somewhat parallel. Alan getting involved with a young thing who is married to an incapacitated old man in a wheelchair; Charlie finding out Kate is sending pictures of herself to a quadriplegic. I realize on paper, the stories do not sound that similar, but there felt like they were similar to me after watching.
I'm about 2/3 through it, probably wrap it up this wknd. I liked the first season but then was so disappointed when Brody copped out of the suicide bombing that I almost passed on watching it this year. But, as with the "The Killing", the writers have more than redeemed themselves with this second season, which is absolutely superb, even better than the first season. If they maintain this high standard this could be one of the great tv series - up there with The Wire and the first four seasons of The West Wing. Rarefied company indeed.
Wow, if the remaining episodes are as good as thing one I might end up missing the show after all. Hour went fast. I hope the rest are an hour.
Didn't think I would ever by fine with Dwight being regional manager, but they made it a pretty palatable event.
Didn't think I would enjoy listening to Andy playing a goodbye song, but it was pretty touching and not a hint of acapella.
No more Jim & Pam strife. Back to the perfect couple, and Jim sacrificing his dream com true while Pam conveniently overhears him giving it up for her.
Liked like the little homage to Michael Scott with the leg up on the desk.
This is a perfectly functioning Tivo HD hard drive that was in my Tivo HD. It still has all the settings. I Mhscopy'd everything to a new 1 TB HDD so I don't need this HDD. I still have the original 160 GB HDD for back up.
