I may be late on this post, and I'm sorry it's taken me so long to notice but really??
Every time I pause a show, I see an annoying star icon with some sort of ad. I just now noticed this and find it very distracting and annoying
I emailed TiVo today to find out if there was a way to turn it off and apparenly there isn't.
TiVo has partnered with various companies to offer special promotions exclusively to TiVo subscribers. These promotional offers appear on TiVo Central and other TiVo screens, and are highlighted by a star icon. They range from promotions for new movies and music artists, to products and services available to TiVo subscribers. To take advantage of one of these offers, simply select it and follow the instructions on the screen. TiVo, is in part, advertiser supported, so there is no way to opt out of TiVo promotions. TiVo sends these promotions to subscribers as part of the TiVo Service.
Wow, so not only do I have to pay 19.99 for TiVo service; but now I'm getting ads thrown into the UI ala Comcast or some cable-provided DVR. This isn't cool.
I know there are several remote threads, but most of them go back a couple of years. I have a TiVO HD, will be getting a Premiere. I'm currently using a Universal URC 10820 for the HD and it does everything I want it to, and wonder if it's possible to add a TiVO premiere to it, so that I could control BOTH TiVOs with it (not together, obviously). Can the codes distinguish between the two TiVOs? Or is there another universal remote that would do that? I know that Harmonys may do that, but I really don't want to spend that kind of money for a fancy-schmantzy remote, though I"m sure it is wonderful.
If future attempts to clone my old drive should fail, is there a freeware version (or an approximation) of InstantCake?
Two weeks ago:
I am a long time TiVo user. I currently have several DirecTivos in service (HR10-250) and an HD-Tivo (series 3 w/cable card). I just purchased a new Premier Elite TiVo and installed it Friday. After getting all the updates I installed an M-card cablecard and paired it to the new TiVo. Everything is working, except the TiVo keeps locking up. Live TV is frozen on the screen and the remote does nothing (on screen or on the front panel) and I have to unplug the Tivo to recover. Sometimes the box is idle, sometimes it was recording one or more shows when it hosed.
Maybe a bad spot on the hard drive?
It is plugged into the same UPS as the HD TiVo that works fine, plugged into the same Ethernet switch and via a splitter to the same Comcast cable feed. The old HD works while this one keeps freezing.
I was planning activating it with lifetime service, but that maybe I need to try to get this TiVo replaced?
I think 4 freezes in 2 days (or 2 1/2 days, actually). Each time was when the Tivo was not being watched - locked on live TV of whatever channel(s) it was on sometime when the set was off. I guess could leave it on the local weather channel with a constant clock - then I would know when it froze each time...
The power should be good, this is plugged in to the same circuit as the older HD Tivo which works flawlessly. I can try plugging it direct.
I would have to re-do guided setup to test without the cable card. Since you get no guide data w/o a cablecard I don't have it set up to do clear QAM now. I could get a replacement CC from Comcast and re-pair, I suppose.
No expander is connected.
I swapped the Ethernet and coax between the two TiVo units and it made no difference.
I think the online vendor is going to send me a replacement Elite, that should eliminate the box itself :-)
Cable signal quality:
All 4 tuners are using QAM 256 modulation.
Tuner Strength SNR RSU RSC
0 95 38 5183 3723
1 89 35 6651 212
2 89 35 6128 677
3 87 34 6624 162
I have have the new Elite next to my older HD Tivo. I swapped the coax between the two boxes and the RSC and RSU on the Elite stayed high. I rebooted and re-tuned both - RS? 0's and strength 100 on the old HD and high RSU and RSC on the new Elite. I checked the HD before the swap and reboot (and checked it the other night) and it runs mostly 100% and 0's on channels I checked. I tuned the same channels on both boxes to compare.
Note that the Elite errors are not climbing (when the box is working)- just first tune errors that Elite and XL4 boxes seem to get.
I now have a 2nd new Elite at the house - a replacement. I have not paired the m-card with it yet, but I am seeing high error counts on this one as well.
Could the m-card be the problem?
I left the cable card out and scanned for clear QAM channels and no freeze the first two nights. Once I finally got the software update and got trial service I installed the m-card and had a freeze the first night. I pulled the card and went back to clear QAM - two freezes in less than 24 hours. I re-ran the power to another outlet - no change.
More bad news, the 2nd Elite has locked up twice sitting on clear QAM channels- no cable card. I ran the power to another outlet and it did not help. I left the Ethernet disconnected this time. Again, the HD Tivo and the cable DVR are fine. This 2nd Elite seems to lock up even quicker than the original - in fewer hours.
Any other ideas? Did they send me two bad Elites? Should just return the 2nd one and forget about 4 tuners? The cable box UI is terrible, but DVR never freezes...
My family was excited to watch the hour long Good Luck Charlie episode last night where they finally revealed the baby's gender and name. You'd think this would have come at the end of the show. Nope! The geniuses at Disney had a preview for next week's episode at the first break. The preview showed the baby in give-away gear and the mom said something that also gave it away. How does a huge corporation like Disney make such a stupid mistake by spoiling the episode (and this was an hour long special episode) while we are just starting to watch it? What a bunch of friggin idiots.
For better or for worse, the show definitely has a BSG feel to it now.
Anyone get the feeling Charleston, South Carolina is one of the "reservations" the aliens was trying to recommend to Mason? It would help at least explain away why that chick is able to freely fly around so much without fear of being shot down.
New series on Spike that just started.
I watched the premier and thought it was pretty good. It's on Spike so of course there is some "staging" but they will be on the ocean and you can't fake that.
I'll keep watching, for now.
I'll admit it I'm a Sorkin Junkie and I've been looking forward to this show for a long time.
I really loved it. When Daniels started his speech about America I was hooked.
The only thing I wondered was, was Daniels' part meant for Bradley Whitford. I could totally see him in that role.
This show looks like it's setting up to be the West Wing meets Sports Night and I'm all in.
I have my premier set up, and it works great. Got the mac app, the iPhone app, and its all working too. The only problem is that sometimes both record lights come on, and i don't have any shows scheduled to record. I currently have extended digital cable, but haven't received my cable card yet, so i only get up to channel 74. When the recording starts, its on 734 (women's channel). Any clues or suggestions?
I have tivo files that I recently transferred across computers, and I can't seem to find a free program that will convert them. I've found plenty that will download from an existing Tivo and convert them, but none that will convert files already in existence on my Mac. Help!
- Pam's flashback - never thought about the fate of aging prostitutes.
- Tara in the tanning bed (that was a first) - Pam had better get on her "maker" job
- Jason finally getting a clue - pedophile teacher turned him out?
- Vampire Salome - I didn't learn about that in Sunday School
- Linda Purl added to the cast
- Sookie - isn't she supposed to be the main character?
- Sam - he was OK when his brother was alive
Anyone else watch these documentaries on National Geographic?
I thought they were very well done. I think I liked Mountains the best. The footage is just terrific, and Josh Brolin does a great job with the narration.
The most upsetting was near the beginning of Coasts when the young male sea lions attacked the baby sea lion. The eay the baby screamed and cried as they tossed it around was awful. I had to fast forward.
Nature is beautiful, but cruel!
My friend's thinking of ditching her cable and buying a Tivo, similar to my setup.
She's going to try an antenna first, see if she can even get enough channels well enough, and I'd like to be able to point her towards the best, or even buy it for her, but I just don't know what the best is.
I have this:
Terk's FDTV1A, which works pretty darned well for me, and is better than my older Terk, but for example, Tivo has some interesting looking antennas, and I figure they might be good if Tivo's selling them, like:
That Clearstream 4, and ClearStream Micron XG, and Clearstream Convertible.
Anyone know what's best?
Or this thing?
I have a 5 hour HD recording that checks in at about 29 GB. Numerous attempts to transfer to My Snow Leopard Mac have proved unsuccessful with Mac2Tivo. It stops numerous times and the final file only plays part of the recording. Tried iTiVo, which doesnt resume, and it fails part way too.
I own a Tivo Series 2 and a Tivo HD. I am going to get Dish TV. They offered Dish 322 receiver but I believe I will need two receivers if I want to connect both my Tivos to Dish Network service. Dish offered to get the 625 receiver which can record two channels at the same time. Either way it will cost me an extra $7 a month (either for extra receiver or for the DVR receiver).
Does anyone know about 625 interface v/s. Tivo HD interface and give some input on this.
My TivoHD just stopped working. Won't power up. So, I check and see if I can keep my current @12.99 per month subscription fee if I get a replacement Premiere.
No. I can't.
Way to go, chaps. Way. To. Go.
Alphas (I thought it was canceled) and Warehouse 13 July 23 on Syfy.
I recently bought a TiVo Premiere. I already have 2 TiVo Series 2 DVRs. I have them all connected to my LAN. In the my shows list of my Premiere I can see the two Series 2 DVRs, in the now playing list of my series 2 DVRs I can see the other Series 2 but cannot see the premiere. Additionally the TiVo app on my android smart phone does not see the Premiere. It scans for boxes and picks up the series 2s but not the premiere. Is any one else having this problem? It seems to me to be a software compatibility issue between series 2 and premiere. The premiere is hardwired, one the the series 2s is hardwired and the other one is WiFi.
I have a Tivo Premier HD. I have a few season passes that I set up a while back that continue to record their shows. I have tried to add 2 new season passes for my kids "Phineas & Ferb" and "Jessie" on DisneyHD both locally and through the iphone app. Despite going through this setup without difficulty, the shows are not recording even though they are listed in the "To do" list. There are no listed conflicts they just don't record.
Thanks in advance.
