I recently got a new Premiere-4 (upgraded from S2) and when I just opened up my Tivo Desktop, I expected it had my old S2 Media Key and I would have to change it to my new Premiere's key. But it said if I did, I couldn't watch the recordings in the Tivo Desktop -- so I didn't. I don't even know what the old Media Key was.
Then I went into MyShows and was surely surprised to see my new Premiere's MyShows without me telling Tivo Desktop about my upgrade. So I guess Tivo Desktop communicates with the "mother ship" about me. I thought Tivo Desktop was just a local PC/Tivo thing on my LAN.
So I transferred a current show to the desktop and it is fine.
So is it right to conclude that the Media Access Key is tied to my account rather than a particular DVR?
Also concerned how it works with transferring ownership of a Product Lifetime Series 2? Do they get their own Media Access Key? I just sold my Series 2, does it get a new key when the new owner sets it up?
Please enlighten me.
Just noticed Showcase items are now showing in TiVo Central with an annoyingly distracting yellow star. They also show at the bottom of every folder grouping. Any way to hide this?

I've had a Premiere Elite for about an year and notice that when I cycle thru tuners now while viewing the buffer the time is reset back to live the next time the tuner comes up. It doesn't matter where in the buffer you are or which channel(s) are being viewed. I don't believe this happened when it was new and is rather annoying. Has some update added a setting for this that needs to be changed? I have a Motorola Comcast DVR that doesn't act this way.
While catching up on some Pilots via On Demand, I noticed a trailer for this new series
. Stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers and produced by the Downton Abbey folks and director of The Tudors. Looks promising. But weird that I have not heard of this show at all.
So? Am I, probably the least likely to watch this, the only one watching?
I'm really (really!) not a kid person, so I didn't think I'd watch but since they revised the name and my 'Master Chef' SP picked it up I figured I'd give it a look-see.
Well, imagine my surprise in finding that it's really good! These are not like the kids I see 99% of the time. These are smart, polished, caring, polite kids who can cook. I mean they REALLY can cook!
In E01 they started with 24 kidlets and had a challenge that whittled it down to 12. The one heartbreak was this tiny little guy with so much personality and I was so bummed when he got the ax. He cried. :( I cried.
In E02 the 12 remaining kidtestants did a mystery box and one winner got to choose what everybody else would cook. This was one of the younger kids who is simply amazing (many of them are!).
So, they are doing this just like the adult version but what I am the most impressed with is these kids. Imagine that! (if you knew me, you'd probably be shocked out of your chair)
So? Who's in?
I must have missed this and was wondering how long this has been true. While messing around with YouTube on my Android tablet I found a box that when I opened it gave me the option to select my Roamio, when I did the YouTube app on my Roamio opened, then I could also start or queue up videos on my Roamio from my Tablet's YouTube App.
How long has this been working? Any other apps that work this way (Netflix, Hulu+)?

I like to rip my DVD videos (owned by me) and copy them to my Tivo for viewing. I sometimes need the closed captions to understand all or parts of a movie. After the DVD video file is ripped I can see the closed captions in VLC and VideoReDo, but they do not show when played on the Tivo.
VideoReDo shows the captions as DVD608 instead of EIA608. I can extract the captions with CCExtractor, but can't get them back into the file as EIA.
I know about using StreamBaby with captions. That solution doesn't work for me for several reasons.
Can anybody tell me how to get closed captions to work on the Tivo using a video file from a DVD. The answer to the same questions for Blue Ray would also be appreciated.
I had a new problem last night with my Romaio Plus. I had a recording with no audio. This was the first time I have seen this problem, but I still have not watched many recordings on the Roamio. Anybody else had this problem?
I was all in for this show (for now) until the last minutes when Klaus daggered Elijah. I don't like Klaus but Elijah, the suit wearing vampire, is cool as sh*t and Marcel is a very charismatic foil. Looks like Rebekah would be in it too. Then they had to ruin the show by putting Elijah on ice and leaving the dull as tofu Klaus as the main lead. All he really wants is to be wuvved, the wittle wonely vampire. Please.
I don't have structured wiring in my 2-story home. For best reception, my TV antenna needs to be on the second floor, which means my TiVo also has to be on the second floor. But then I can't watch TV on the first floor without paying a monthly fee for TiVo Mini, which goes against the reason I stopped paying for cable.
So TiVo Mini needs to be subscription-free, at least for the first one on an account. Or TiVo needs something like HDHomeRun
to separate the tuner from the base unit.
Edit: I have coax to both floors from the cable company, so a solution that uses MoCA or even ethernet would work for me, just not one that requires me to plug my antenna directly into the cable outlet.
Hello Tivo Community,
So having spent a couple of hours combing through the forum, I could find absolutely no workaround for the problem of "Backup Target not large enough" that occurs if your target drive is even a few MB smaller, even when using a truncated backup image (eg: backup -f 9999 -6so /dos/mybackup.bak /dev/hdc /dev/hdd).
Is this the general consensus? Is this really the sad state of affairs that backup/restore is in? Should I just give it up, and start collecting old >80GB PATA drives so I have a ready supply when failure inevitably occurs again?
Or have I missed something? (An alternative to winmfs/mfslive, perhaps)
I should also mention, I also got this error when trying to restore an image to the same drive it was taken from. /boggle
We have a good wireless network in our house and have been streaming to Apple TVs and iPads for years with no problems. We've just starting using TiVo, and unfortunately we're having problems with the iPad app. The app is fantastic with a beautiful interface and a lot of functionality. The problem is with playing video on the iPad. The video always starts up without problem, but after playing for a few minutes it will stop playing. The video just freezes and nothing happens. Tapping to bring up controls and selecting "Done" returns to the listings. Starting the video again will pick up where it froze. It then plays on for a few minutes and freezes again. It does this with both prerecorded programs and live shows, but interestingly a live show will go much longer before freezing. On a live show this morning, it went for over half an hour before freezing. Going back and replaying the same program from the beginning, it froze in less than five minutes. Anyone else with this problem? Any hints?
With enough RAM (about 1.5GB per tuner to hold 30 minutes of HD video), the hard drive wouldn't need to spin 24/7. This should reduce TiVo's power usage by an order of magnitude.
College football game is going late. Don't know if late local news will insist on entire 1/2 hour or will allow SNL to go on live.
How do I get rid of that annoying tickler that comes up at the bottom of the screen .."CBS for Comedy" Says "press down to hide". I dont wanna hide, but delete it ....
Can the slide remote use a generic bluetooth adapter, or does it require the specific one that comes in the box?
I bought an Asus RT-AC68U router to replace a Netgear router. All of my TiVos worked on the Netgear router. With the Asus, every device I own, wired or wireless, work fine except for my 5 TiVos. 4 are wired, 1 is wireless. The 3 Premiers pass the DNS and port tests. All of the TiVos fail the network test connection and fail to connect to the TiVo service, Netflix, etc. All of them see each other and the TiVo server and can stream and transfer OK. They just can't get to the outside (internet). The router has no blocked ports, URLs, IPs, or anything that I can see. TiVo support blames the router and that seems logical up to a point. But obviously TiVo is doing something that no ther device does. I have desktop and laptop computers, my Andriod phone, several tablets, a Sonos system, 2 RoKus, an XBox, a Sirius radio, and probably other stuff I can think of. Every one of them work perfectly whether wired or wireless:confused:. Only the TiVos do not work.
Does anyone have a idea of what the problem may be?
Craig's not working. Come and get it.
Just watched the pilot, was pretty good introduced the characters (all likable) well.
