Fox Sports One (and Two)

Mon, 08/19/2013 - 11:15
I noticed this started up this weekend and Fox (the OTA network) has been shilling this for days and even during the SNF they had last night. As of now, there's nothing compelling to watch on it. Eventually they will have some MLB games, so I might watch it then. The NFL show they were pushing just seems like the normal Fox pre-game show with a "B" team crew. I'll pass.

Multi Room streaming failing - 1 way only

Mon, 08/19/2013 - 09:35
I have a premiere xl4 in my living room and a regular premiere xl in my bedroom.

I often use the multi room streaming to stream recordings on the xl4 to the regular xl.

About two weeks ago I was streaming a program. Playback was fine then about 30 minutes into the recording the playback started to stutter severely. Eventually playback failed, I received an error about a loss of connection to the xl4 and the xl4 disappeared from my my shows list.

I had to restart the xl4 for it to reappear in my my shows list on the regular xl.

But since then multi rooming streaming to the regular xl never works.

I can browse the list, start playing. But it immediately starts to stutter then fails.

Over the past two weeks I have tried multiple times to restart every piece of the system.

I restart the router, the xl4 and the regular xl.

I even did a full factory reset on the router.

Now if I stream a recording hosted on the regular xl to the xl4 that plays absolutely fine.

I don't think its an issue of the quality of connection and the available bandwidth of my internal network.

Everything is connected via wired ethernet direct to the same router.

And high bandwidth hd video streaming from other services such as netflix, hulu and amazon work flawlessly on both boxes without any delay.

Also in the living room I have another media streaming box that works absolutely fine.

I have tested downloading a show to my xl from the xl4 and then works but the transfer rate is painfully slow.

Grouper and TiVo Partner to Put TV and Movies Front and Center of the Social Scene

Mon, 08/19/2013 - 08:52
SAN JOSE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 08/19/13 -- TiVo Inc. (NASDAQ: TIVO), a leader in advanced television services and the creator of digital video recorders (DVRs), and Grouper, a technology-based social club, announced today a partnership that will integrate TV and movie themes into the novel Grouper experience. The partnership, rolling out in late August, will create integrated brand experiences in select markets by offering TV trivia during Grouper gatherings, themed parties and photo challenges.

"We look forward to working together with a brand that shares our passion for bringing people together, and we are excited for how this will improve the experience for our members," said Michael Waxman, Grouper Founder & CEO. "When people meet for the first time, TV and movies are often times the ultimate ice-breaker conversation. This partnership will facilitate our goal of bringing people closer together by injecting pop culture into the mix."

Without a doubt, Grouper and TiVo share a lot in common. They both shattered the traditional rules of their industries: TiVo invented the DVR and in the process reinvented the way we consume television and changed an industry forever; and Grouper improved on traditional ways people meet by organizing meet-ups between two groups of friends, rewriting the cultural rule book and re-defining friendship and love. In addition, both brands are focused on bringing people together, with Grouper's mission to end loneliness by uniting people offline, and TiVo's by providing the ultimate television experience and giving consumers all video content, anywhere, anytime.

"We're ecstatic to partner with an innovative, emerging brand with a young, connected demographic that understands and seeks what TiVo delivers -- a television experience that brings together the best of all television -- streaming apps and cable TV -- anywhere, anytime and on any device," said Doug Bieter, TiVo's VP for Consumer Sales and Marketing. "Grouper's passion for creating a personalized, fun experience for their customers captures the essence of what we do for lovers of TV. We look forward to seamlessly supporting the Grouper experience with TiVo technology in a variety of capacities."

TiVo and Grouper expect to announce additional brand integrations in the coming months, leveraging TiVo's innovative entertainment experience into Grouper's renowned social events. Check out www.tivogrouper.com for further updates.

True Blood 8/18/13 "Radioactive" ** Spoilers **

Mon, 08/19/2013 - 06:32
Well I'm glad that's over.

I can't believe Eric was only in 30 seconds of the finale. This episode could have been 30 minutes long and still seemed boring. The entire second half after they killed Warlow was useless, other than the last 10 seconds to setup the next season premiere.

Disappointing conclusion to what was surprisingly a decent season.

Quote: TiVo has been active with a program that enables it to port its UI to MSO-leased hardware. On Monday, GCI of Alaska became the first North American service provider to launch the TiVo platform on the Pace-made XG1 video gateway. Meanwhile, ActiveVideo, Charter's new technology partner, recently demonstrated how its CloudTV H5 platform could run the TiVo UI on a wide array of devices,. including the DCT-2000 (a QAM-only digital cable set-top model), .a Roku box .and a connected TV. Dexter S08E08 "Are We There Yet?" Spoilers

Sun, 08/18/2013 - 22:57
Okay, I didn't see that coming... Zach getting "Brain Surgeoned." I was hoping they'd carry on with his mentoring for a bit more. That was very entertaining.

Really enjoyed the episode a lot.

Big Brother - 8/18/13

Sun, 08/18/2013 - 22:43
Looks like Helen is in big trouble if she doesn't win POV. Meanwhile, Elissa is absolutely pathetic. Seriously, why did she even come on the show?
I loved the have/have not comp! It's nice to see them finally come up with something unique for a change. It almost felt like I was watching a completely different show. :)

Migrating from a Premiere to an Xl4

Sun, 08/18/2013 - 21:06
I just purchased an XL 4 as I wanted to set it up with the mini and stream.

Question - what is the easiest way to get the premiere shows I have to the new Xl4? Can I copy them over or can I possibly switch the drives out, as the premier I have is a 2 TB drive? I know I can easily move the season passes over.

Thanks for the help and my apologies as I am sure thsi has been posted but google\search was not helpful.

Transferring from RCN

Sun, 08/18/2013 - 19:52
I'm currently using an RCN Tivo Premiere, dual tuner. I also have the WD Tivo Extender connected.

I may be moving soon, and will lose RCN. Question is this: is it possible to transfer shows off the RCN Tivo to a newly purchased Tivo Premiere?

Using a Tivo Wireless N adaptor on a PC

Sun, 08/18/2013 - 19:11
I have an extra Tivo wireless n adaptor - and a PC with no wifi. Can I use the Tivo adaptor on my Windows Vista PC?

The wifi network is password protected. Where do I select the SSID and password when the adaptor only connects to the PC through its ethernet port?

Error installing tivo Desktop 2.8.3

Thu, 08/08/2013 - 12:55
I had a Win XP Netbook and successfully been using the free edition of Tivo Desktop with no problems. I just lost that notebook hard drive and bought a newer netbook with Win 7 Professional.

When ever I try and install using the Tivo Desktop Installer, I get error "Error opening installation log file. Verify that the specified log file location exists and is writqble." I cannot get past this.

I found on Microsoft webssite that it loses the location where to write log file and thinks \windows\system32 if the file. Their work around is to close Explorer and restart it. I tried running the installer program from Desktop and from within Explorer with no luck. Not sure what problem is. This is on a brand new Win 7 computer and the Desktop installer I think is Win 7 compatable. Has anyone else had this?

why no more 4-tuner Premieres at Best Buy?

Thu, 08/08/2013 - 08:21
Anybody know why Best Buy is no longer listing 4-tuner TiVo premieres on their website? I was looking into possibly getting one from them. They have the mini and the 2-tuner Premiere, but a simple search for "tivo" brings up no listings of 4-tuner Premieres. Also doesn't make sense if they are offering the mini (that only works with 4-tuner TiVos). They don't even have them listed as "out of stock". Could they be getting ready for the new line of TiVos? Or maybe its for another reason

TiVo HD booting issue

Thu, 08/08/2013 - 08:02
I have a TiVO HD (TCD652160) that seems to have an issue when booting up. Basically, it had 1 S-card cable card in it for a few months now and all worked good. It was in a basement bedroom that wasn't used much so I didn't worry about it being a single tuner DVR. I then got a hold of another S-card from Comcast and put it in this TiVo HD. It recognized it, I called Comcast and had it paired and all went well with that. It then became a 2-tuner DVR.

Now, when I reboot it with these two S cable cards, it just seems to get hung up on the "Welcome, powering up" screen. However, if I take the 2nd cable card out and reboot it, it boots up just fine (as a single tuner DVR). I can then re-insert the 2nd cable card and it recognizes it again and functions fine as a 2-tuner DVR.

Is this the way it normally works? Or what else could this be? My series 3 OLED doesn't seem to do this, but maybe these models do.

Also, I realize I could probably just get a single M-card and use this instead, but my local Comcast office has apparently been all out of M-cards for 3 different trips I have made to it over the last 3 months. Due to possible billing issues that may get messed up with my account, I don't want to call them and have them mail me an M-card either so I am just gonna stick with these S-cards for now.

So, do these Series 3 TiVo HDs sometimes work like this? Is there maybe something I am not doing correctly here? Just curious.

My TiVo died - What to do next?

Thu, 08/08/2013 - 05:39
My TiVo just died. :( Sniff. Since the new models are reportedly about to come out, what would you smart TiVo aficionados advise? I had been hoping to wait until the new models came out to buy a new unit, but now I'm stuck both without a TiVo and without reception (no cable box and absolutely no reception out here without cable). The first one being the bigger problem obviously. Unfortunately, I don't have the technical proficiency many of you here do. Nor the time right now to do a bunch of tests. I'm just interested in a new unit. Wondering what my best option is. Wait for the new units? Order a Premiere (I understand there are performance complaints)? Other options? It's a TiVo HD with lifetime.

What are the chances WeaKnees or some other place can salvage my recordings? Since I'm stuck at the powering up screen, it could very well be a bad HD. I had tried and tried to transfer the recordings, but had some unresolved tech issues with certain recordings although the recordings weren't copyright-protected. Are there other places besides WeaKnees that do this kind of work? I'm clear across the country...

Advice would be so very much appreciated.
