My S2 (ST) is directly connected to my cable and I have "Program Source" set to "Cable Without Box". This works fine but limits my available channels to 2-96. I would like to be able to record the remaining "free" channels available - I'm not after subscription channels - those in the 3-digit range.
The obvious answer is to get a cable box, but the cable company (Cox) wants $100 a year ($8.50 a month) to rent a box, and frankly I don't want the additional channels that bad. I don't mind spending some money to make this work, but I'd rather own than rent.
Is there some kind of generic converter box I can buy - something that can be controlled by the TiVo?

I updated & upgraded my lifetime SAT T60, got it hooked up to the legacy port on my swim and my Wife was happy. Then I got my bill. TiVo DVR charge. Call DTV, come to find as the account was closed for over 5 years the lifetime was "lifetime" gaaaaa.
I spent over 250.00 on the Silicon dust cache card/nic & Hinsdale 80gb hdd.
I have had it on eBay 2x without an offer. Is there no interest in these anymore?
My D-Link DIR-601 router was rendered obsolete when my 2 year old yanked off the antenna.
I replaced it with a Linksys E2500, which I'm happy with so far. I have been able to get the tivos on the network, and transferring files back and forth, but when they try to reach out to the tivo service to get schedule updates, they can't connect.
The message that tells me to unblock ports comes up.
I know how to port forward, but.. I think that relates to inbound traffic.
How do I unblock these ports for what I imagine is outbound traffic?
So when I booted up my Tivo Mini yesterday it installed a software update. Anyone know what was updated? I got no message telling me.

Double checked similar threads. My problem wasn't among them.
Came home a couple days ago and discovered we had a power outage while I was out. Surge protectors and UPS devices were reset and all was well aside from my Tivo Prem. XL. It had a frozen start up screen. The drive had started to hiccup from time to time three months back and I had ordered a replacement drive from Weaknees as a precaution. So after insuring it wasn't coming back, I pulled and replaced the old hard drive.
Install and setup went very smoothly. Cable service set, network connects fine, then I get the message shown in the title and I'm at 50%.
Can someone explain this note from the weaKnees instructions to me and share if this might be the issue?
"Note: After installation of your new drive certain channels are not available, you will want to call your cable company and verify that the HOST ID and DATA ID that they have matches the TiVo's CableCard setting screen."

This is just started today,although I lost this channel briefly yesr=terday,but,it came back.
Some days agao,our local Channel 12 went digital and when I punched it in on the Tivo Premiere,it was there,so I did a rescan.All was fine.
Today,I lost it.All the other channels are fine,but,they're digital and UHF.
One thing I should note: No Channel ID,or program info.The Tivo lists it as "UNKNOWN."
Diagnostics says : "program lock= NO"
I've searched,read and tried to 2 usual fixes: restart and rescan.
1)On my Sony Bravia LCD TV it's fine.
2)Tivo says : 82 % signal lock.
3)An old Samsung SIR T151 digital converter box I have,locks it a bit slow,but,it works fine.
Note: I haven't activated the Tivo Service yet.
btw: Is the Tivo Channel list different than the Zap2it data for my postal code(K0L1Y0)?Their data is out to lunch.Only locals here are: 6 CJOH[CTV],11(soon 11.1)CKWS [CBC],12.1 CHEX[CBC],27.1,(30.1 -only 5kw xmttr),35.1[CTV]
I'm having trouble with audio from my mini when trying to play audio through sonos playbar (soundbar). The mini is hooked directly to the tv with hdmi cables (as are my Roku and Apple TV). Audio goes out of the tv with a digital audio out cable directly to sonos playbar.
Roku and Apple TV work fine, but no audio from mini. I do get audio from mini if I disable sound bar and play audio through tv speakers.
Any suggestions on how to fix would be appreciated.
Well, I've come to the conclusion that this is a somewhat goofier and dumber show than I had hoped. But that's OK...it's a GOOD goofy and dumb.
They do love their classical farce, and they do it so well. And they do love not even going to Wikipedia to research their science (identical twins don't share fingerprints; I thought everybody knew that!). But it's still a lot of fun. I like that things actually move along, that people actually talk to each other. And of course Maslany continues to astonish. It's just too bad there are only two episodes left this season.
I have been using Tivo Desktop for awhile but about 6 months ago it stopped seeing my DVRs. I don't think I did anything with any of my settings. Today I spent most of the day on the telephone with Tivo and cleaned and reinstalled the software, changed from Bonjour to Beacon and back again. I still don't see anything. Any suggestions? I am not terribly sophisticated with computers or routers.
Setting up a brand new XL4. Each time I go through Guided Setup, it successfully connects and downloads, then finishes "loading info" and says "pending restart" to install an update. I restart, during which it does say "installing an update" with no indication that it failed. But when I restart Guided Setup, it gets to the same spot and is "pending restart" again. I've gone through it probably 10 times!
I've tried it with an without an M-card inserted.

Since I am getting ready to do a lot of work in the basement so I decided to treat myself to a second Mini. So I went over to BB in St. Louis to pick one up. Although it barely rained there and it didn’t appear to rain a home, I was greeted with my network in shambles (lightning strike, power surge ??). I ended up losing a 24 port Gb switch and an 8 port Gb managed switch. It took a long time (and a lot of reboots) to get my existing Premiere, XL4 and Mini to see each other again. The major causality here was that when you bring up the other machines “My Shows” it will only show them in SD, not HD. I’ve tried every setting I could think of but no go. I've also forced them to connect to Tivo several times. The Mini seems unaffected.
tivo.com/activate doesn't work for new subscribers and hasn't for over a week now.
I got a Tivo last week and since then.the above link hasn't worked -and that was confirmed by a forum member.
I would suggest :
-Be able to activate and deactivate online!
I'm going to ask this question here since calling Tivo customer service goes nowhere.
I have a TiVo Premiere and for the past few months I have encountered a unique (?) problem. Occasionally (once-a-month or so) I go play a show that I have recorded and there is no sound/audio. The show is there, fully recorded but there is no sound. Playing the show again, there is still no sound. A show that I recorded at the same time will have sound. This problem is not specific to any time, show, network, etc. It is quite random.
At first I just assumed that there was a problem from the broadcasting station but quickly found out that is not it because my Tivo Series 2 records some of the same shows and the audio is fine. And on Wednesday I encountered the problem "live". My girlfriend started to watch "Law & Order: SVU" and there was no sound. I stopped the recording and there was still no sound. I hit "swap" on the remote to change the tuner and then returned with another "swap" and the sound was working fine.
I assume this is some random internal issue with Tivo. Does this happen to anyone else? Can this be fixed?

Are GOT fans enjoying this season? I'm asking because I am SO far behind on the episodes (have watched through "Walk of Punishment" which had a big "Jamie" ending). I haven't read the threads past that episode because I avoid spoilers.
So far, I've been a bit "meh" on the episodes, because half the time they're talking about people whose names I don't recognize, and partway into the ep I start feeling a bit lost. By the end of each episode (so far), I've been pulled back in, but it's been a chore to get there.
Is it worth trying to catch up on the 4 unseen (tomorrow will make it 5) episodes?
