Pixelation every 12 minutes when streaming

Tue, 06/18/2013 - 09:31
This is a strange issue. I have two Premiere XL4's networked via gigabit. When streaming from one TiVo to the other while a program is recording, I'm seeing very brief pixelation every 12-13 minutes consistently. This pixelation is not present when viewed locally on the recording Premiere. Even more odd, I only see this pixelation with baseball games as I couldn't detect it in any other content - I know that sounds crazy but it's true. I assumed it must be confined to one channel, however the game was on a different channel the other day and I noticed the same pixelation pattern. I've power cycled my routers as well as both TiVo's and the issue remains. I'm not sure where to go form here...

COX deploying SDV & Tuning Adapters in LAS VEGAS, RIGHT NOW!

COX deploying SDV & Tuning Adapters in LAS VEGAS, RIGHT NOW!

Two days ago, out of nowhere, we received a notification that as of JUNE 17, 2013, Tuning Adapters would be available, as a self-install kit, at our local Cox retail centers, free of charge & additional fees.

It also states that: AS OF JULY 17, 2013, we would lose nearly all our channels, beyond basic service, if the Tuning Adapters were NOT installed before that date.

They make a play to save us the hassle of going through this, by offering ONE (ONLY ONE) of THEIR digital/HD receivers for the same price as a CableCard for 12 months (which I guess might appeal to somebody with ONLY ONE TiVo (or other CableCard device, NOT leased from Cox). After the year of $1.99/month offer, the costs associated with keeping the receiver would go up to whatever rates were in place at that point.

THERE IS NO MENTION OF ON-DEMAND, unless it's while their baiting you with a discounted receiver, leased from them.

In a house where family members are SCOLDED, harshly, for leaving a single CF nightlight on, or not turning off lights when leaving a room, I am very worried about the increased electrical utility bill that will arise from using these Tuning Adapters. We have some of the highest electric rates in the nation. I've read, all over, how these Tuning Adapters are inefficient ELECTRICITY HOGS, run hot, and introduce all sorts of issues in the wake of their deployment.

I realize this is the way things need to be, and it was coming sooner or later. My biggest concern is does the FCC CableCard mandate also cover Tuning Adapters, or are they a separate matter. If separate, who do we complain to, if/when there are problems with them? Cox here absolutely hates TiVo, hates CableCards, & hates supporting the parts that they should be responsible for supporting. Their party line for a year has been "We don't support TiVo". It doesn't matter what the problem is, or if it affects every device in the house, non-TiVo & all, if there are TiVos in the house, that's the line you get...

TiVo prepping nex generation DVRs

Mon, 06/17/2013 - 21:44
Dave Z has a good article on The Verge about the TiVo Series 5.

Quote: TiVo is prepping a beefy six-tuner DVR that can expand beyond the 2-terabyte storage limit, making for a capacious media hub ideally suited to feed a number of TiVo Mini extenders sprinkled around the home. http://www.theverge.com/2013/6/17/44...-to-six-tuners

I am patiently waiting to upgrade! :)

Driving multiple TVs from TiVo DVR

Mon, 06/17/2013 - 21:09
Is it possible to drive 2 TVs from a single HDMI output, out of the TiVo? I have a Premier 4XL in my living room and want to add a TV in my garage to mirror whatever is being shown on the TV in the living room. Not looking to watch things independently between the garage and the living room...looking to watch the same thing in both places at the same time. This is mostly for football games. I know I would have to get a spliter or something but wanted to see how other people have solved this problem.

HDVR2 Power Supply Problem?

Mon, 06/17/2013 - 20:57
My HDVR2 died today.

Noticed that it was plugged in, but there was no power to the unit at all.

I unplugged it, then tried plugging it back in again, but still no power. Then I tried jiggling the cord, in the back of the box. (where the cord plugs into the box)

It powered up, then I waited for the unit to reboot again. Everything worked fine. I checked, to see if everything was OK, and it was. So I shut it off and thought, that's all it was. (a loose cord, or something like that) Then I came back 10 or 15 minutes later, and it lost power again.

Tried replugging it back in again, but it would not power back on again. When I tried to jiggle the cord again, sparks started shooting out of the back of the unit, where the cord plugs into the back of the box. I saw sparks underneath the unit too, in the same area. Then the unit started to smoke. That's when I pulled the plug, out of the power strip.

Is that my power suppy, that just short circuited? If it was, can I replace it? If it isn't the power supply, can you tell me what it actually was? And can I actually get it fixed?

I bought this HDVR2, a long time ago. I last upgraded it, with a 250 GB hard drive. I believe I have already replaced the power supply once on it, about 5 years ago. Will I have any problem replacing it again, if that's what the problem is?

All my recorded shows are on it, and I want to try to save them all, if I can. Can somebody help me out? Please tell me what the problem is, and where can I get a replacement part, to actually fix it?

I'm out of work right now. So if someone can help out with a used power supply, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

Help! TIVO deleted many saved shows

Mon, 06/17/2013 - 20:32
My TIVO HD (which I have had for several years) all of a sudden deleted a bunch of my saved shows. I had plenty of storage space left. There were almost 100 TIVO suggestions in addition to my shows. When I looked at it tonight, a bunch of previously saved shows were gone. I can't tell why it deleted some shows and not others. For example, it deleted some shows that I had marked "save until I delete", and didn't delete others that were not marked to be saved. It doesn't appear to have only hit shows that were recorded prior to a certain date. Has this happened to anyone else? Does it mean that my hard drive is failing?

Thanks in advance for any help!

WD expander suddenly not recognized by TiVo Premier

Mon, 06/17/2013 - 20:26
I have been using a WD 1TB DVR expander with a TiVo Premier for the past 14 months. All of a sudden TiVo is not recognizing it. There had been no changes in the setup. I have now reset the TiVo twice and then tried to run the SMART tests, but even then the drive wasn't recognized. I have reset the TiVo w/o the drive for now, but really want to fix this problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Tivo Mini remote channels

Mon, 06/17/2013 - 15:30
Haven't seen this discussed yet. Right now I have 3 Tivos in the closet, each on a separate remote channel. My old Tivo HD and Tivo Series 3 are on their last legs, so I was thinking of replacing them with a Premiere 4 XL and a Mini (these are distributed through the house, so I need the outputs as well as the tuners - 5 tuners instead of 6 is fine). Do the Minis have the same support for multiple remote channels, and if not do they share the "universal" channel with the regular Tivos? I don't want any surprises with one remote suddenly controlling multiple boxes. :)

Tivo 652160 1.5gb Software

Mon, 06/17/2013 - 14:06
I purchased a Western Digital 1.5TB, model WD15ears to upgrade my TIVO model 652160. I copied from the old 160GB to the new 1.5TB using MFS COPY in WINMFS.EXE and expanded the size. It worked really great for about 3 months. Yesterday I turned on TV and TIVO was dead. I powered TIVO off and back on and could not get past POWERING ON screen. I copied from the old 160GB to the new 1.5TB using MFS COPY in WINMFS.EXE but did not expand the size. I installed 1.5TB back into TIVO and all worked great. I copied from the old 160GB to the new 1.5BTB using MFS COPY in WINMFS.EXE and I did expand the size. Again I could not get past POWERING ON screen. I believe it may be a bootpage or kernel problem. I am looking for answers. Where can I get the TIVO software for1.5TB drive? Thanks.

True Blood - "Who Are You, Really?" 6/16

Mon, 06/17/2013 - 12:31
What, no thread yet.

I thought it was a very good beginning of the season. I thought I recognized the actor playing Warlow and I confirmed it at IMDb - Rutger Houer!

I just knew when Sookie and Jessica got to the house Bill would be back to his more "normal' looking self. But he now has powers that even he does not know about. And surprise surprise - He can't be killed with a wooden stake! I wonder if any of the other "true death" methods would work on him: silver bullets or beheading (are there any others?)

Anyway, I'm quite glad that its back!!!

Burn notice: all current season starting June 2013

Mon, 06/17/2013 - 09:49
only 2 eps before the team is back together? they really cant bear to be without each other can they? i find it really hard to believe that even with the child at risk, that mom would give michael up. she's done some very difficult missions in the past. but maybe in her anger toward mike she was just thinking of herself.

and yes i believe she should have been savvy enough to spot the fake.

i dont remember seeing any subtitles like 'scum drug lord' so i hope they get a chance to put them back on the screen asap lol

Mad Men 6/16 The Quality of Mercy

Mon, 06/17/2013 - 09:19
First, wow, when I put the title in, this one came up -
Babylon 5, "The Quality of Mercy", S01E21, OAD 8/17/94 *spoilers*

http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb...d.php?t=399553

That aside, what an interesting episode.

Sally and Glen. I thought from the start the girls at the school were going to be doing some initiation thing on her.

Peggy. Poor Peggy. She gets shafted by Don again and her great work taken away. Did he really do that to save the day or because he didn't want her to get credit.

I think she needs to find a new company to work for with no Ted or Don around. I couldn't believe they were sneaking off to the movies together. But then the way that office works everyone with any position is off in the middle of the day for hours on end. It's crazy.

Bobby Benson had me confused. I need to rewatch that whole bit with him and Peter again.

Stram Will NOT work on MPEG4

Mon, 06/17/2013 - 08:08
Just a heads up. the Stream will not currently work with MPEG4 content. Our system uses MPEG4 for cable channels, and MPEG2 for broadcast. The only ones that will stream are those encoded in MPEG2.

Not sure if TiVo is even aware of this issue.

Futurama

Sun, 06/16/2013 - 23:30
Final season of "Futurama" starts at 10:00PM EDT on Wed. 06/19 on Comedy Central. First 2 eps. in a 1 hour block, repeated at 12:01 and 2:03.

the dvr has detected a serious problem

Sun, 06/16/2013 - 20:15
I started having problems with my TiVo HD so I called TiVo Customer support and they told me to Clear program information & To Do List. I figured I would do that before I did "Clear & delete everything" next. Well I did it and now the TiVo displays this screen and is in an endless loop. Im not sure if I need to buy a new HD and re-image or not. I had no success trying to enter the kick start codes either.

Thanks!!

Is upgrading the hard drive in a brand new tivo worth the risk?

Sun, 06/16/2013 - 20:07
definately getting a tivo tommorrow, but debating buying the premiere 4 and upgrading the HD or buying the xl4. when I look at it on the surface it looks pretty good a 2tb hd from newegg for 80 bucks and get the premiere 4 for 250 and by the time i pay tax on the tivo. Im still saving about 80 dollars vs buying the premiere xl4 out right with maryland tax but is it worth voiding the warranty and not having the thx? With the money I would save I could get 2 minis instead if 1.

The only thing im a little jittery about is upgrading a hd for the first time in a tivo and screwing it up

Thoughts?

HR10-250 and OTA schedule data

Sun, 06/16/2013 - 17:51
I live in the Indianapolis area and use the OTA to get HD local channels.

WISH-TV has suddenly stopped updating their schedule data - Regular Directv and other OTA schedules show up fine but all there is on WISH-TV is "Regular Schedule".

Glitch or some contractual thing?
