Had a weird recording glitch last night, looking to see if anyone has any clues on this. Short version: One show on my Roamio Pro and two shows on my Elite did not record due to "video signal was unavailable". But it was available. And I do not think this is the 5/6 tuner problem.
I have a Pro that is 2-3 weeks old, and works like a charm, no problems. And I have recorded six tuners at once, so no reason to think the missing 5/6 tuner cablecard is the issue. I also have an Elite, 2-3 years old, also works like a charm.
Last night I had 5 CBS shows set to record back to back. On both TiVos. No padding, no overlap (I don't pad CBS generally). At the same time, I had other tuners recording other shows (ABC, NBC, etc). Some with padding, some not, but I am anal about my recordings, and always check to make sure there are no conflicts.
On the new Pro, BBT1(7:00), BBT2(7:30) and Crazy Ones(8:00) all record. 2.5Men (8:30) does not, "no video signal available". Elementary (9:00) also recorded. I realized about 9:15 that 2.5Men did not record, started flipping thru the 6 tuners, and actually found the last few minutes of it on one tuner. So it clearly was available.
On the Elite, the two BBT recorded, but both MJF (NBC) and 2.5Men(CBS) did not. Same reason. Elementary did record.
Any clues? Had it been just one TiVo, I would blame it on a glitch. But to have two different TiVos miss the same program, that was clearly available, is a mystery. And remember, while the Pro is new, the Elite is a veteran, with nary a glitch in years, and a cablecard that I know has no issues.
Thanks in advance:confused:
I just got my first Mini and will be setting it up tonight. A couple of questions (yes, I searched but it seems unclear to me) came up about the tuner allocation.
I know that I would have to use one of the tuners on my XL4 to get started if I want live TV on the mini. However, I don't want to do that as I often use all of my tuners on the XL4. Can I set it up but then snag one of my Premiere tuners from another box instead? I have one Premiere that is really only for watching recordings from other Premieres and recordings from my computer. I never record TV on it so I could certainly live with it having only one available tuner.
If that cannot be accomplished, is it easy to snag a tuner from the XL4 only when I need it? Probably 99% of the time the mini will be used to watch recordings from my XL4, but I might want to watch the news or a football game on it from time to time. Is that something that can be done and then changed back quickly?
Thanks in advance for the info.
I thought this was a little better than expected. Definitely a Bad News Bears ripoff though. I kind of like the mom/coach character and some of the kids could be funny. It gets a marginal SP for me. I'll give it a few more episodes.
Several times a day, when watching cable channels on the TiVo Premier - but never when watching OTA channels - the error message V58 "channel not authorized" appears for about 3 minutes, then the channel reappears. On recorded programs, there is frequently also a 3 minute gap in the recording. TiVo and the cable system blame each other for this problem, so it continues unresolved. Does anyone else have a suggestion?
Some facts: I do not use a tuning adapter; I have a Motorola signal amplifier in line with the cable; the signal strength is the same when the error message appears as when it does not appear; the signal strength on all the cable channels is about 40; the SNR is about 30; the CCI byte code on the affected channels is 0x02; this message may appear at any time on any cable channel.
Here are some problems with Tivo Elite. If I do a short rewind it will lose sound and/or stop for a while when it starts playing. The picture will be choppy at times until it gets back to where the rewind started. Some times it will reboot when this happens. What could be the cause of this. I bought the elite about a month after they was introduced.
We have been seeing an audio issue with our Roamio Plus. I have the 30 second skip enabled... and if you skip rapidly forward in a recorded show it will occasionally (a few times a day) blast garbage audio like digital noise through the tv. Nothing clears it except turning the TV off and on. At first I thought it was the TV, but now I am sure it is coming from the tivo. While it is happening, if I switch inputs on the TV the noise goes away, but when I switch back to Tivo HDMI input it is still there. I assume powering the TV off and on resets the HDMI interface to the Tivo in some way?
This is bad... since it is VERY loud and not only scares the crap out of you, but wakes up the entire house when it happens at night.
Has anyone else seen this happen? I have the audio in PCM mode, btw... since Dolby mode does not give me the audio tones with back and forward operations.
YAY!! It's back
Over the summer, I binge watched seasons 1-4 in like a week. And just finished Season 5 this past week.
Glad the show is back. Just knew Leslie was sending Ron to Lagavulin. That was cool. Will we see Andy in London for three months? Or does he just not appear on screen?
So, Robin Williams is Don Draper.
I actually LIKE Robin Williams. I like his goofy silliness. I mean, it's comedy after all.
I currently have Comcast basic service with NO Comcast boxes. I use tuners on my Macs to record and then stream to Apple TVs on our two HD TVs. Well, Comcast is going to very soon encrypt basic channels, so I have to do something. I really don't want to go satellite, and we are in a very difficult area for antenna, so I thought TiVo would be the easiest solution. I started reading all about it, and soon discovered that I needed to learn about Moca. Yikes. Looks simple, but the diagrams on the TiVo web site all show a cable modem in the mix, which I don't have, so I'm confused.
My setup would be:
Roamio Plus at the main TV, no ethernet available
Mini at second TV, also no ethernet available
Moca adapter in the equipment closet
The closet has Uverse modem, Apple Airport Extreme, and ethernet switch
What do I need to connect the Moca adapter to to establish the Moca network? I assume router and switch, but will that be sufficient? Thanks.
The previews looked good and I was hoping it would be good, but I was pleasantly surprised just how good it was.
Very touching/emotional at times. But also just a decent feel-good comedy. Reminded me (just a little) of Go On from last season, but better.
Definitely a keeper.
Hello, I've been using pyTiVo with no problems until lately.
Some background, I'm running it on Windows XP and storing the shares on network attached storage.
When I launch it, a DOS window show up like this:
As far as I know, this is normal.
I use the URL http://localhost:9032/
, in google chrome, version 29.0.1547.75 (which I'm told is the up to date version), to show a screen that lists my TiVos and share names. That works fine too. And if I click on a TiVo, it shows me the Now Playing list of that TiVo with no problem. The problem is if I click on a Share to show what's in the share. That used to work. But now I get a screen that says: "No data receive", like this:
I've tried restarting pyTiVo through the 9032 screen... I've tried closing it down and restarting from scratch, and I've tried rebooting the whole computer, and also rebooting the router, but nothing seems to cure my problem. Does anybody any other ideas I might try?
Oh, the first thing I thought was that maybe I'm not logged on to my NAS, but I am, and in fact, I can view the share folders via Windows Explorer with no problem, so I don't think there's anything wrong with the NAS or Windows XP's connection to it.
Also, Google Chrome seems to work just fine for me when I use it to surf the internet, so I'm not seeing anything obviously wrong with my browser.
Im selling my xl4. Ill be without cable tv until the s5 goes on sale. Im betting around holiday season. I dont want to hold onto my xl4 until s5 goes on sale because i believe xl4 resale value will be even less at that time. So im wondering if i should cancel my internet from Comcast at the same time i cancel my comcast TV and temporarily add dsl service until i am readyto add comcast TV/internet at the same time . Ive been told after not having service for 3 months i will be eligable for new subscriber promo rates fro m Comcast. Anyone know if ill get cheaper deals from comcast if i cancel both services now from Comcast vs. Just TV?
Maybe already discussed (sorry if I have missed).
I saw a post claiming Netflix was streaming in 1080p on AppleTV and other devices.
I confirmed on AppleTV, then I tried on the Roamio. YEP!! 1080p goodness. Looks great!
Would like to use AirPlay to mirror my TiVo recording stream to my Apple TV/TV
Now that Roamio is out, is Premiere dead?
I hope this thread is not against the rules and I hope it generates some interest. I'd like to use it to document, without spoilers but with show descriptions stuff that's currently on the UK (At any given moment). There's so much good stuff that never reaches here.
My list could be endless but what I've recently watched
* Vera (Season 3): Grumpy northern detective, similarities to Morse
* The new season of Whitechapel
* What Remains: A 4 part mystery, not as good but similar to Broadchurch)
* Moone Boy, a fantastic, light hearted 30 min comedy starring Chris O'Dowd of IT Crowd fame, though it's really about the boy.
* New Tricks: It's in it's last season and really not that good anymore
* Good Cop, a dark cop-gone-bad show starring Warren Brown from Luther
* Life of Crime, about a policewoman at 3 points in her career over 20 or so years
* Scott and Bailey (season 3 I think). 2 female detectives
As you can see I prefer cop/drame to comedies but they are all good shows.
I have a series 3HD with a working Comcast cable card that I would like to put into a new premier xl. Both tivos are on the same TiVo account. Can I do this or do I have to swap the card with Comcast and activate the new card?
Will moca pass through a tuning adapter?
I live in Raleigh, NC and Time Warner Cable seems to have copy protection turned on at times for a channel that is available OTA. I record Jimmy Kimmel Live, Nightline, and Katie from 11:33 p.m. to 2:05 a.m. from our local ABC affiliate, WTVD HD, from the cable box. OTA it is 11.1, but from the Time Warner Cable box it is 1111. I can record these programs OK, but when Katie ends, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire comes on, and my Pioneer DVR pauses recording, saying the show is copy-protected. Fortunately I am not interested in that show anyway, it's just that I catch the first few minutes of it at the end of recording the earlier shows. I am not even trying to record the HDMI output, since my Pioneer DVR does not support it; I am recording the output of the cable box to my Pioneer DVR using composite cables, and yet I am seeing copy protection issues with two OTA channels.
I do not currently use Tivo but I thought this would be the best place to ask about this because Tivo users will certainly have the most experience with copy protection. I read somewhere that copy protection (or maybe it is CCI?) is not allowed on OTA stations, even if those stations are rebroadcast on cable.
The same thing happens when our local MeTV affiliate, OTA 50.2 (Time Warner Cable 151) airs The Dick Van Dyke Show. Suddenly the copy protection (or CCI, or whatever it is) is turned on. This only happens when I try to record from the cable box. If I use my Magnavox recorder which has a digital tuner and can tune the channels directly, it does not have a problem with copy protection.
Still, my understanding is that the cable companies are not allowed to restrict copying on programs that air on channels that are available OTA, even when they are rebroadcast on cable. Note that this only happens when I try to record from the Cisco cable boxes. For some reason there is no copy protection on the Scientific Atlanta cable boxes, even though Cisco took over Scientific Atlanta. I am guessing it is because the Scientific Atlanta boxes are older and maybe don't have the firmware needed to support copy protection? Since the copy protection does not occur when using my Magnavox DVR's digital tuner, and it does not occur with the Scientific Atlanta cable boxes, it appears to only be an issue for the Cisco cable boxes, and right now it is only for a few programs on the ABC affiliate channel and the MeTV affiliate channel, but I am worried this is going to expand.
Can I file a complaint against Time Warner Cable with the FCC, and if so, how do I do that? There is no point in complaining to TWC--I could not even get them to fix issues I had with my cable signal in the past. My complaints about that went nowhere and I kept calling until a supervisor told me it would be better if I hired an electrician to fix the signal problem. If they are non-responsive to signal problem reports, they certainly are not going to be responsive to my complaints about the copy protection on the OTA channels.
I recently replaced three Series 3 boxes with a Roamio Pro and two Minis. Since I pad all of my recordings, I tend to utilize more tuners than most people. I just checked the "To Do" List", and it looks like my machine will be using 5 tuners at once tonight. During this time, I won't even be able to stream live TV to one of the Minis. I guess six tuners isn't as many as I first thought. :)
