My wife complained that the Mini is annoying because if it stays on the same channel for a while it will ask to go into sleep mode.
I tried to explain that she should be watching recorded content so she doesn't have to see commercials and that the remote buttons would keep it "awake", but she has no interest in doing so.
Is this set at something like 90 minutes? Has anyone found an option for it in the menus? I'd like it to at least be as long as a two-hour movie.
I have an XL4 and have always used hardwired Internet going through an Apple Extreme. Now, with two minis I enabled MoCa and my Internet is crawling although the MoCa is working on both boxes. From the wall Comcast installed a 3 way splitter, one goes to the Comcast Modem, another to the TiVo and the third use to go to another TiVo but is not hooked up. Can it matter that the same cable outlet that is being used to go to the input of the modem is also feeding to the XL4 and therefore feeding the MoCa back into the outlets? I called Comcast tech support and they did something last night that brought the speeds back up. However, this morning speeds are down and I am getting 2mps down and 4mps up with MoCa enabled. I turned the MoCa off, made no wiring changes and am now getting 25mps down and 8mps up. Any thoughts?
This may have been discussed before, but I did not find it.
My Season Pass Manager has about 50 shows set up. The 47th one on the list is blank (no program listed), and I have not been able to delete it.
Has anyone used this drive in their TiVo Premiere 4?
Seagate Barracuda 2 TB HDD SATA 6 Gb/s NCQ 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive ST2000DM001
I was thinking of upgrading the 4-tuner box that I just got with a 2 GB drive. I have a WD Green in one of my other 2-tuner boxes. Wasn't sure if a faster 7200 drive like this one may speed it up a bit. The 4-tuner with it's stock drive does seem a hair slower than either of my 2-tuner boxes (and even my TiVo Mini). Thanks!
So I don't follow entertainment news, so I had not heard about a new NCIS spinoff, but 10 minutes into the show, I mentioned to my wife that it felt like a spinoff series setup episode. I guess I was right.
We'll see how part 2 goes, right now, the new team does not seem too compelling.
Wow. Those tribes really couldn't have been split any less equally from a strength standpoint. I'll be surprised if the Gota tribe loses another challenge before the Merge. And them Bikal helped them even further by voting out probably the strongest guy on their tribe. What good does it do to break up Matt and Michael if you can't win any challenges and have to keep voting people out? They definitely should have gotten rid of Julia in an effort to try and win some challenges.
Having said that, maybe they're being sneaky like a fox by planning to lose a couple challenges and get rid if the Fans, so that at the Merge there's no question that the Favorites have a massive numbers advantage.
I have two Minis, both connected over MoCA (with tx/rx rates of 270mbps). One is in the workout room and gets used fairly regularly (probably 4-5 times a week). The other one is in the master bedroom and might only get used once every 4-5 days. Both were installed within a day of each other. Both are on Panamax surge suppressors.
Today my wife switched everything on (via universal remote) and the Mini wouldn't work. I could see that when remote buttons were being pushed the led on the front of the Mini was responding, but there was no output from it to my Plasma. I tried disconnecting and re-connecting the HDMI cable and still nothing.
I finally rebooted the device and now it's working "fine" again. The only difference between this one and the one in my workout room is that this one is connected to a Panasonic plasma (workout room has an LG plasma) and on this one I've disabled the front LED so I don't see it when I'm sleeping.
Just figured I would let people know that this happened, I'm suspicious that maybe the FW for the Mini is not 100% ready for prime time just yet.
I guess no one is watching this any more... I'm really enjoying it. Since they have three shows to bounce between (plus any dream sequences), the songs aren't all Marilyn-related. It's interesting to see how fortunes turn, though I doubt Karen would REALLY leave Bombshell to be in Hit List. But in the show, she's googoo for Jimmy, so leaving the "disaster" of Bombshell to be with him makes sense, and of course Ivy gets free of Dangerous Liaisons to take her place.
I like how they have major characters all doing different things, different shows, but keep them intertwined.
It's definitely one of my go-to shows each week... Survivor and Amazing Race can wait: I watch DVRed Smash as soon as I can. :)
I've got a bunch of SD shows on my TiVo Premiere and they all seem to be recording at 2 gigs each. The TiVo website says a premiere is supposed to be able to record 650 hours of SD programming, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Am I doing something wrong? Did I miss a setting somewhere? Changing e recording quality doesn't seem to do anything to the size, they are all 2.05GB.
So... I received my mini today. Setup went smoothly on this old 4:3 RCA Proscan SDTV (480i) via the Tivo composite breakout cable.
Then I noticed the HD menus were squished and so was ALL HD content I was viewing (though downconverted). I was disappointed to find no Aspect Ratio options in the Video settings menu.
I made sure the only resolution I picked was 480i, to no avail.
My older Series3 I used to use on this TV had the benefit of being able to view any HD content from my other Tivo's and would properly letterbox any 16:9 content on the 4:3 display. This mini? Not so much.
I can find no documentation that says they don't support 4:3 TV's. Not to mention, they advertise and sell the composite breakout cable for 480i.
Anyone have a similar experience or know anything about this?
Josh Goldman on Cnet added a pricing comparison to his review
of the TiVo Mini. He compared pricing across a number of satellite, cable operators, and telcos. I thought it would be interesting to compare some lifetime scenarios to the list and to look at the monthly pricing of what he presented over 1 to 6 year periods for homes with 2, 3, and 4 televisions. Here is a summary image of the results.
I've uploaded the spreadsheet including the details of my calculations. Its interesting how inexpensive AT&T U-Verse is compared to the other services. As can be seen, TiVo becomes a very good value proposition over longer term periods. Something most of us already knew. The spreadsheet also doesn't take into account end-of-life value of TiVo equipment with lifetime.

Two of the three episodes have already aired (and are continuing to air on Sundance). The third will air beginning March 25th. I think it's seven episodes, but I'm not certain.
Starring Elisabeth Moss, Holly Hunter, Matt Mitcham, Al Parker, and Thomas M. Wright.
The scenery is breathtakingly beautiful. The mystery is intriguing. So far, I'm enjoying the ride and looking forward to the conclusion.
Is anyone else watching? Enjoying?
My box has stopped recording. No season passes are recording, I press record on live tv or future programing. It runs thru the "set to record" set up and says please wait. How ever the record light doesnt come on, it doesnt go to the now playing list or show it is recording. I selected two programs to record and it behaved as tho they were however neither tuner was effected with the 2nd tuner not even changing channels
I sort of feel bad starting this thread but I'm really getting sick of the live buffer disappearing when a new recording starts. I'm hoping they will be fixing this in the Spring Update. It seem that we usually start hearing about the update by now.
Edit: Moderators, Please move to the Premier Thread where I meant to post it.
Hello, I'm kind of considering (but not sure how seriously yet, though my wife is being open-minded about this) dumping Time Warner for my TV content, and instead relying on OTA + hulu + maybe netflix + maybe amazon, and maybe other online sources. But I'm thinking of OTA + hulu for the lion's share.
In my house, we have:
1 TiVo HD
1 TiVo Premier
2 single tuner S2's
I also have a home network with pyTiVo running, and an NAS.
From my reading, it looks like the Premier supports hulu plus, but it seems like I can get what I want using the free version of hulu.com, and I might prefer to avoid hulu plus. Also, if I understand correctly, there's no easy way to transfer hulu shows to a file and use pyTiVo to transfer to TiVo right? I'm assuming I just need to stream the shows from the internet whenever I want to sit down and watch the shows.
If that's so, my only idea offhand how to do it is to put some computer in the same room as the TV (and by the way, the rooms that have TiVo HD and TiVo Premier both contain TVs with hdmi input... the others don't), and plug the monitor into the TV and just play the shows from a browser on the PC. But then I need a way to plug an HDMI screen into the computer, which offhand I'm not sure how to do. But does this sound like the usual strategy people use, or there a simpler way to accomplish what I seek?
I guess I also need to put an antenna somewhere that faces the TV towers.
My Comcast cable box allows me to record 2 programs at the same time, but I cannot watch a 3rd live program unless 1 of the 2 recordings is canceled. Does TiVo permit recording 2 (or more) shows AND viewing a live show at the same time? If so, which TiVo model(s) should I consider? In brief, I want to record AND retain 24-7 access to live programming.
I have just encountered a very strange situation and wondered whether anyone else has seen it or might suggest a fix/workaround. (I have a Premiere XL and use the HDUI.)
I've had a Season Pass for ABC's Body of Proof for a long while. A few weeks ago I saw Body of Proof returning with a two-parter, and my TiVo got the first episode and I watched it. I wondered why the second half didn't air a week later, per my To Do List, and then kind of forgot about it. Last night I discovered that it was airing, but not on my To Do List, and that I've apparently missed about 4 intervening episodes, including the second of that two-parter. My SP is gone.
No matter what I do, I can *not* get my Premiere to let me create a new SP for this program. I changed some options, I tried with defaults, I tried every trick I could think of, and it would not work. I later tried, while the episode was (manually) recording, to use "Explore This Show" -- only to get a brief "empty" display, followed by sliding back to the left to the previous menu. And I still can not get a Season Pass created.
I just created one online via the TiVo site and await word as to whether it's going to take, but I am flummoxed by this. Has anyone else seen something like it? If so, how did you get it fixed?
Finally had it with Cablevision and will be moving to FiOS in a week or so. I have 2 T-HDs now and will swap one out for P4 that I just ordered that should be here Friday.
I assume I should still unbox and run setup on my current network and just pick FiOS as provider or do I need the FiOS Cablecard first. Just trying to save time.
I am expecting a long day of setup...... moving network, TV and 3 phone lines.
