extended warranty options

I recently got a 4-tuner Premiere. Everything works great so far. I see that I can get a 2yr extended warranty from TiVo directly for this unit for $29. I also see how Square Trade will offer 2 years for $19.

Not sure I will get one yet, but just wondering if anyone has had any experience with Square Trade? Good? Bad?

MOCA networking issue--need help

I have Time Warner cable with Tuning Adapters and two premieres that are currently configured with one premiere hard wired in to my AT&T Uverse gateway, and the other connected via a TiVo wireless N adapter. In spite of the fact that the two TiVo's are on opposite sides of the wall from each other, two feet as the crow flies, the ability to stream between the two is very poor at best. So, I decided to set up a MOCA network...purchased my Actiontec adapters, and then realized that my AT&T Uverse internet connects to the gateway via a traditional telephone line. Since the MOCA adapter has to be connected from the source via coax, it appears that my plan will not work.

Is anyone aware of another option? I called TiVo technical support and they were not able to help. I called AT&T technical support and they were not able to help....

Can anyone here help, or am I stuck with my current ineffective means of streaming between my two TiVo's.

Premier or Roamio ????

I currently have a Premier upgraded to 318 hours of HD recording and am looking at the Roamio 4 tuner model now.

I don't need streaming and trying to figure out besides the extra 2 tuners, what do I get from a Roamio that I don't have or will eventually have on my Premiere??????

I saw the comparisons on the TiVo site and really don't see much different if you don't need streaming built in.

Weakness shipped open box

I received my Roamio Pro from Weaknees with the Tivo box already opened. I don't believe it was a return item as it was bought and shipped out by Weaknees the day the Roamios first became available. Why would Weaknees open the box before shipping it out, especially seeing it was the Pro, not a modified basis or Plus unit?

Tivo wireless networking

I'm hoping what I'm trying to accomplish is possible. Current I have a 5ghz wireless router hardwired to our master bedroom Tivo Premiere. In the next bedroom we have our 2nd Premiere connected via the tivo wireless-n adapter. Multi room viewing and streaming is flawless between these two tivos.

Our third tivo is the roamio, which is downstairs and connected to a 5ghz wireless bridge. Multi room viewing and streaming between the master bedroom Premiere and the Roamio is flawless.

I realize that MRV is not designed for wireless, so what I'm about to ask might not be possible: is there any way to use MRV from the wireless Premiere to the Roamio? Whenever I attempt this, it crashes immediately and says that my network is too slow.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Wow. Didn't see THAT coming.

They did a great job with the reveal. Someone on the periphery, yet inside enough to have all the knowledge needed. You had to be wondering why they kept showing Alma and her affair, other than to drive Marco nuts. Now we know. I thought the way so many threads all tied together was simply masterful.

And with four episodes left, we have plenty of time to explore... well, everything.

Graciela's discovery of the trackers can't be good news for Ray-Ray. Who wanted to know if he had to make a down payment again.:eek:


[Aside: Dear The Killing, this is how you write a mystery. You don't have to have the red herring of the week, that drives your viewers away by the millions. And then a reveal, two years later, that comes from left field. You can create a few false trails, and when the reveal is made, it's actually not the end-all, be-all. HBO Breaking up

Set up Roamio Pro last night. Moved cable card from XL4 to Roamio. Called activation number - all channels activated automatically, except for HBO which required a call.

HBO came on but is breaking up badly.
  1. HBO was working fine on the XL4 with the same cable card, same connection.
  2. HBO is still working fine on the other XL4 that is still connected in another room.
  3. All other channels on the Roamio including other premiums like Showtime are working fine.
  4. Signal strength is 90-95 on all channels including HBO.
  5. I tried changing the Roamio Tivo setup to only use 720p, but that made no difference.
Signal runs to a Sony ES-series receiver (about 5 years old) and Sony flat-screen HX929.

I will call Verizon FIOS and ask them to push the HBO pairing again.

Any other ideas?

XFinity On Demand - not so good

I received and installed my Roamio Plus last night. Installation was simple and straightforward and, even before I called Comcast to pair my cablecard, I was able to browse a large number of channels. I was missing some channels though and obviously couldn't get into On Demand, so I called Comcast. That's when the fun started....

In short, after they paired my cablecard (and told to wait 45 minutes, hence getting me off the phone :)) I lost access to a bunch of channels, including stuff like ESPN, etc.

I do have access to On Demand content - in a way! In short, I can navigate around the content available but when I try to play something I hear audio, see 2-3 seconds of content (so, I basically have permission to see the content) but then it just freezes (no audio and a frozen picture). This happens on any content, 100% of the time.

I called XFinity again and they seem to have a standard approach = "we'll send a reset, wait 45 minutes and all should be well". They suggest the signal should give me access to the content properly (namely, it actually plays). Of course, it doesn't. I get the same every time and I can't accept that just resending a reset message is magically going to make content play properly.

This is highly frustrating. Of the various benefits of a Roamio over my old HD, accessing On Demand content was a key attraction. Comcast don't seem inclined to troubleshoot this properly.

Anyone else have this and find a solution? FWIW, I am in the Seattle area.

Roamio reports different signal levels than Premiere

I haven't had much time to spend with my new Roamio Plus, but I did notice that the signal levels reported on the diagnostics screen are significantly higher than my two-tuner Premiere that was previously in that location.

The Premiere typically showed 36-38db SNR and 85-95 on signal level, and the Roamio shows 42db SNR and nearly every channel is pegged at 100.

So are the new tuners are more sensitive or has Tivo merely adjusted the displayed signal levels?

Roamio and S3 not playing nice

This seems like a common question posted, but I have run out of ideas.

I have a number of Tivos on a hardwired network. The problem I have is the Roamio and one of my S3's can not see each other's now playing. Both see all of the Tivos and can see now playing list just fine, just these two. It has been a few days and I think I have tried all of the common things.

When I go into My Shows or Now Playing and select the remote Tivo

Error on Roamio:
The [S3] DVR's My Shows could not be displayed because of a network problem. Press LEFT to return to my shows list.

Error on S3:
The [Roamio] DVR has no recordings. Press LEFT to return to Now Playing.

What I have tried:
  1. With a third Tivo, a [Tivo-HD] I can see now playing on both Roamio and S3.
  2. Checked IP addressing.
  3. Change Roamio's static address back to DHCP then back to static. All are static (except Roamio's second IP address)
  4. Confirmed no duplicate IPs or duplicate MAC addresses.
  5. Confirmed IPs, mask 255.255.255.0, network 192.168.1.255, gateway addresses.
  6. With a browser I can access the https://[IP]/nowplaying/index.html on all tivos.
  7. With an iPad I can see Now playing on Roamio.
  8. Roamio Tivo LifeTime is applied to the account (2 days ago).
  9. Roamio and S3 shows up on the same account.
  10. Confirmed both Tivos at tivo.com have video sharing & enable video downloads on both. Toggled the settings for Roamio to make sure.
  11. Rebooted both by GUI and power cycle.
  12. Force Tivo connections on both & rebooted both.
  13. Rebooted router and both Tivos.

Other than calling Tivo CSR, any other ideas?

Weaknees & UPS tracking Question

Hello All,

Last Friday (8/23) I purchased a Roamio from Weaknees.com. They sent me the UPS tracking info.

On the UPS web site the Shipment Progress showed the unit being picked up on 8/23 and leaving Cerritos CA on the 8/24. After that there is no further information. The page has also shown a 8/30 delivery date since the first day. I normally see the Shipment Progress section being updated as what ever I have ordered moves through various UPS transfer sites.

What have other people seen, especially with an order from Weaknees.com?

2 Roamios, MRV only on one.

Hopefully someone has seen this before.

I have 2 Roamio Plus devices.

Roamio #1 - connected via wifi.
Roamio #2 - connected via ethernet cable.

Roamio #1 does not see #2 in My Shows.
Roamio #2 does see #1, and can watch shows via MRV.

I have tried:

- Reboots
- Forcing dial home
- Disable video sharing for 24 hours and re-enable
- Changing the name of the devices and forcing a dial home.

Any ideas of what to try next?

After setting up the new roamio pro and doing things to my older XL4 unit, I dont know what I did but for some reason, the Roamio remote control started singing... like a little midi tune... it kept going on and on in a loop until i pressed "clear".

#1 Any idea what that is and why it started that? I dont need it going off in my bedroom in the middle of the night.

#2 Is there an "off" feature to that?

Bizzare - i know... thought it was a Mogwai song from the Gremlins...

Guided Set-up Issues

Hello - I'm hoping some more experienced TiVo users can help me...


I purchased a TiVO Premiere DVR back in October. I received a cable card from my cable provider at that time; however, it was never activated. I only used the TiVo for Netflix and Hulu. I went through the Guided Set-up with my old zip code but was never able to watch TV since the cable card was never activated.

I moved a few months ago and just yesterday got a new cable card from my new cable provider. They activated the card and I was able to see all of the stations; however, some of the channels didn't match up with the description of the channel.

Guided Set-up was initiated again and I got all the way to the section that loads the program information but it got stuck on the "Preparing" section for a very extended period of time. I tried it several times and the longest wait period was for about 2 1/2 hours. I called TiVo support and their solution was to either purchase a new wireless adapter (get N because I had G) or switch out the TiVo box. The TiVo box is brand new and I purchased it from their site, so I'm thinking that isn't the problem.

Does anybody have any other advice aside from purchasing new equipment or do you think this is the best route?

Puerto Rico & Roamio

I ordered one a few days ago and waiting for it to ship. But i heard in the past that Tivo Central features like Netflix, Pandora, YouTube didn't work in Puerto Rico. Pretty much netflix, spotify and pandora work in Puerto Rico and on my Roku. So I wonder if they fixed that for the Roamio?

Note: this is my first Tivo, always been using Satellite for TV until now.

Slow Wireless Connection on Roamio Streaming???

So I just swapped out my Premiere TiVOs with Roamios. Both Premiere's had wireless N adapters and streaming between them on my wireless N network worked very well.

With my new Roamio's every time I try to stream between them I get an error message that the wireless network is too slow.

Any suggestions for improving wireless performance here? Running Ethernet cables through my house is not an option so I have to get this resolved.
