First Roamio question - CC

Tue, 12/17/2013 - 15:25
So I finally moved to the new tivo's. After having three S2's, and with Charter in my area going totally digital, I decided to get a Roamio.

I'm sure I will have some questions, and will be looking around here for answers, but I have a question about the CC.

Not ever needing one, I thought it was just a card. I went to the cable co to pick one up. They gave it to me, plus a little box, about the size of a small cable modem.

I asked what it was for and the agent had zero idea. After going thru tivo install I inserted the CC. Couldn't get it to work. I called Charter and they went thru some stuff. During the call I asked them about this little box and they had no idea either. Since we never could get the tivo to work with the CC, I decided to try and plug the box in. So, I put it between the cable and the tivo. After quite a while the tivo started to get channels.

Is this box normal? I didn't think anything else was needed with a CC, but I guess I was wrong.

setup fail after step 1

Tue, 12/17/2013 - 12:38
I have had a Stream for about a year now. But, lately I am unable to use it. This all started about a 10 days when several TIVO premiere subscribes and various regions were having the C133 error which was eventually resolved by TIVO.

On the back of the stream, the white light is solid and the other lights show me that I have network activity. When I run the setup, it finds my stream on the network but fails after step 1, where the setup is trying to find the software version. When I attempt a service call via the app, the button turns "grey" as if its attempting to make a service call. Once the button becomes solid again, I've attempted to restart the device using the button but nothing happens.

When I view the system info screen, all the info is populated except MAC address, software version. Those say unknown. But it does list an IP address so I know the stream is being recognized.

I've spoke with tech support and they've unlinked and relinked my stream to the tivo account but that does not solve the issue either. I have also rebooted my tivo, router and modem several times.

I have a tivo premiere using Comcast cable card. Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

reality check on upgrading my series 3

Tue, 12/17/2013 - 12:05

I have a Model TCD648250B series 3 Tivo I picked up from Costco. It has life time service. The Tivo is currently in our bedroom and we have a Verizon DVR in the living room. I'm thinking of ditching the Verizon box with it's monthly fee as I like the Tivo better. I'm figuring on having two, possibly three tv's connected. Ideally, having use of DLNA but using Vuze and manually transferring more or less works too.

Options? Should I get a Roamio (I assume plus)? Pluses and minuses of keeping the series 3 or selling it and buying new stuff? I've been doing some reading but I'm still a bit unclear what I might be missing either way.

Is this a cablecard issue?

Tue, 12/17/2013 - 11:19
I have Comcast service and 10 days ago I lost half the channels on my living TV.

Some that I used to get now say "channel not available".

Comcast has been running me around in circles telling me it's one thing or another or another. First it's this, then that and finally something else.

They say they are sending a signal to my cable box - UM - I don't have one and have told them that. I only have 2 TiVo's and 2 cable cards.

The series 3 TiVo in my kitchen still has all the channels I have had for the last year and no issues.

My living room premiere TiVo lost a bunch of the channels that are in the next tier up in the package. Stuff like FX, SyFy, TNT, etc.

Now, they told me it was because my special ran out and so I went thru the pain of getting resigned for a new package that will give me those channels. I come home and still no extra, just the basics.

I have someone coming tomorrow to bring a new cable card and try that but I am wondering why my cable card would only read half the signal or mess up only half of the channels.

Is that possible?

Plex HTML5 App WorldWide Request

Tue, 12/17/2013 - 10:28
I have reached out to the Plex team to see about them helping us and all to work on a HTML5 client. If anyone can pull this off it's them.. So many variations of that product are in use for multiplatform. Just note it's going to take time.

HIMYM - Bass Player Wanted, OAD 12/16/2013

Tue, 12/17/2013 - 08:59
Hmm.. Nice to see Marshall with the mother. Didn't care much for the lead singer story though.

There was clearly some forced emotion with the whole "Robin doesn't want Lily to move to Rome because she'll lose her best friend."

I am curious how Ted decides not to move to Chicago now. If he meets the Mother on the train platform on Sunday night, and is scheduled to move to Chicago on Monday, I just don't see how he can change his mind that fast.

Repair HR10-250 or go HR22?

Tue, 12/17/2013 - 03:02
My HR10-250's tuners may be dying - I've been having intermittent signal issues over the past few weeks (yeah it's not raining!) and last night I turned on the TV to find the Signal Info Error screen staring me in the face. Rebooting didn't resolve the issue and my older DirectTV box could get signal fine. I screwed around with the satellite cables for a bit and got things going again except satellite 2 wouldn't receive ENCW 536 (all the stations around it would come in fine, though and satellite 1 had no problem with it). I decided to swap the cables and as soon as I disconnected satellite 1, ENCW came in fine on satellite 2! Completed the swap and the station is now coming in fine on both (Cable short, flakey tuner or flakey LNB?)

Assuming it ends up being the tuners - Weaknees offers a $159 repair service or I can get a new HR22 for $200. Obviously I don't subscribe to the HD channels with the HR10-250 (which always makes for an eventful call whenever I call DirectTV) but I don't really care to get the HD channels. I do use the OTA features of the HR10-250 to get some of the sub-channels that directv doesn't carry so I'd have to get the OTA box to go with the HR22.

Anyone have a preference?

(oh - if I buy from weaknees do I "own" the HR22 or does that still count as leasing from Directv? Do I still pay the monthly DVR fee? I'm lifetime'd on the Tivo so I should be able to avoid the additional Tivo fee)

Poor out of the box experience

Poor out of the box experience. Many references to UNKNOWN in the messages/error messages.

Bug written up on Tivo's forum.

TiVo Package, Product Lifetime vs. TiVO Lifetime Service

Mon, 12/16/2013 - 20:51
My two Premieres both have Lifetime Service Plans, on the tivo site it shows under Current Payment Plan--

the XL4 shows ----------TiVo Package, Product Lifetime
the 2tuner P4 shows ---TiVo Lifetime Service

the XL4 does have the 3 yr ext warranty and that is indicated under the Device heading. The XL4 was lifetimed at purchase I believe, (not by me), the P4 was lifetimed by me after 3 years of use.

Any reason why the Lifetime plans are not named alike?

Stream the other direction?

Mon, 12/16/2013 - 20:00
I have what is probably a silly question and I'm pretty sure the answer is "no" but I'm going to ask it anyway.

Since Amazon Prime can't stream to TiVo, but can stream to an iPad, can an iPad send it out to the TiVo (and ultimately the TV) as it streams?

Is Moca automatic on Fios Actiontec M1424WR?

Mon, 12/16/2013 - 19:05
Just got my Tivo Raomio Plus and the Tivo Mini. Trying to run setup just for the Roamio now. I am plugged into coax. Setup says there is a problem with Moca. do I need to do anything on my router to enable it?
I am using the router as the Moca point, not the Tivo, correct?

ok, it is working now, and I didn't do anything different. I just tried it again and now it works.

Is there anything I will need to know when I setup the mini?

I knew to not try to use the wireless setting for the Roamio because I heard others couldn't turn it off.

Initial set up of a Basic

Mon, 12/16/2013 - 17:03
Swapping out a new Roamio Basic for my Premier. Thought it would be an easy swap. I got the Basic today and swapped out the drives, dropping a 2tb in it. No sweat. Normally, we run set up before inserting the cable card but on the Basic the cable card slot is underneath and to the side of the box. Very inconvenient. Usually they are in the front. So, I guess I'll run set up then unplug everything so I can get the cc in. Doesn't make sense. Also, they changed the plug so now I've got to hunt through 16 or so plugs in the rear of my messy av set up to find the Premier plug. Just venting I guess.

Questions about current HD DirecTV

Mon, 12/16/2013 - 16:38
My current setup is pretty old. An ancient standard definition DirecTV dish, a channel master multiswitch with four outputs, a standard def R10 DirecTiVo in the living room with two feeds from the multiswitch, and an older Hughes DirecTiVo in a bedroom with one feed.

I have a TiVo HD working off of an antenna, which gets me the broadcast networks in high definition. That's why I wasn't terribly motivated to upgrade the DirecTV stuff to HD.

But we seem to be watching more things on the other channels lately, and I'm tired of watching standard def on my high def television. I need to know what's involved with moving to a full high definition setup. My better half insists we stick with TiVo, so at minimum I'll have to get a THR22 for the living room. Here are my questions:

1. Can the new dish fit into roughly the same spot as an old 18" dish?
2. How many coax cables come off of the new dish?
3. I'm assuming the old multiswitch has to be replaced... but with what?
4. Can I still use either the R10 or the old Hughes DirecTiVo on the bedroom TV? Or does the new dish and multiswitch not provide the MPEG2 streams these things require?

If there's a previous thread covering these questions, I missed it in my search. Apologies for that, just point me in the right direction.

Psych: The Musical OAD 12/15/2013 (spoiler free first post only)

Mon, 12/16/2013 - 15:30
Figured I'd find a thread on this... maybe Psych is too long in the tooth these days. I only started watching 1.5 years ago via netflix, so I guess it still seems a bit fresh to me.

Anyway, I wasn't out looking for this episode, my DVR just picked it up. If you missed it, it is probably on USA's website and will be rebroadcast nest Sunday it looks like.

I know I saw a comic con panel on you tube some time ago and they were talking about a musical, so it seems they finally followed through.

I promised spoiler free in the first post so that's all I'll comment about for this post...

Problems receiving slide remotes?

Mon, 12/16/2013 - 12:59
Anyone else having trouble actually getting a slide remote shipped from Tivo to you? Something is very wrong at Tivo.... I have ordered three so far and have only received ONE.

The first remote I ordered, the shipping envelope was open and empty when received. So I asked for a refund and re-ordered (a chore in itself).

The second was received OK (but shipped next day air, so maybe it went through a different process).

I decided I wanted two slide remotes so I ordered another one. Silly me ;) That one supposedly "shipped" but five days later has not shown up in the UPS tracking system as anything other than a label. UPS says they don't have it and that they scan it when it arrives at the UPS facility so it is Tivo's fault. Tivo says UPS scans it when they take possession of it at the TIVO facility and Tivo shows it as shipped, so it is UPS's fault.

In the mean time, there are four of them on Ebay right now, selling for less than the Tivo price.......

Am I the only one?

No Streaming Over LTE?

Mon, 12/16/2013 - 12:16
My LTE is many times faster than the majority of the free wifi I can find anywhere, why can't I stream live shows on the go via LTE?

Edit: Comcast (Xfinity) is streaming live TV to my phone over LTE why can't TiVo?

Multiple MoCA Networks on Same COAX?

Mon, 12/16/2013 - 09:42
I just ordered a Roamio Pro and Mini to replace my HD and HD XL.

I have FIOS. My FIOS router is only MoCA 1.0 and is maxed out on the number of MoCA devices (My house isn't wired with Cat-5 and I have MoCA to Ethernet bridges at most TVs. Works ridiculously awesome by the way.).

Have any of you guys had problems with the Roamios and Minis running a second MoCA network on the same COAX on a different MoCA channel? Technically I guess this would be the third MoCA network, since FIOS uses one MoCA network for the broadband side, and another on the same COAX for the WAN side already.

What is the real bitrate requirement between a Roamio and a Mini? In the Tivo documentation it states that you need a MoCA PHY of at least 180 for three Minis simultaneously. They also state that a MoCA PHY of 180 is equivalent to 100Mbps. So does this mean a Roamio to Mini connection only requires 33Mbps? That is pretty slow.
