What else could be the problem?

I have three identical series 3 (TCD648250B) lifetime Tivos. Recently, one of them started in a reboot loop. It never gets past the "welcome, powering up" screen. The other two series 3s still work great.

I wound up swapping the power supply, hard drive and fan from a working TiVo and into this non-working TiVo, but none of it solved the issue and the unit STILL reboots.

Any other suggestions on what might be going on here and how to fix it?

What else could be the problem.

Vent time.

A few weekends ago I tried to order the UFC PPV as I was told here that it would work. I set it to record and about fifteen minutes in I tried to turn it on only to find a black screen. This part didn't annoy me as I had braced myself for the possibility going in. I called back and this time explained that I had a TiVo and they put me on hold for about ten minutes. They came back on and said they'd need to transfer me to a tuning adapter specialist. The phone line then rang and rang for a few minutes and I gave up. I called back and got the same experience verbatim.

At this point I figured I was too far into the fight card for it to be worth it anymore. I was disappointed as I had read many times here that non-on demand PPVs would work, but I had anticipated problems and was fine simply cancelling the order as I hadn't received it.

But this is Time Warner Cable we are talking about here.

When I called back to cancel I was informed that it is impossible for them to tell whether or not they had billed me for four days. I pointed out that since I had ordered the show I was likely billed for it and would simply just like the charge removed as I didn't receive it, but they said there was nothing they could do until the charge showed up in four days. Okay. Four days later I call back and they had billed me. The fact that this had strung out for days was annoying, but all I needed was the charge removed and everything would be fine.

But this is Time Warner Cable we are talking about here.

I was told that because of where I was in the billing cycle, the charge could not be removed, only credited back on the following month's bill. I protested and said that I was simply asking for a refund to my bank account for a show I had paid for and had not received. I was again told there was nothing they could do, but the rep offered a work around. If I simply cancelled my auto-pay, made a payment for what I should owe minus the PPV, then I would briefly show that I had missed a partial payment until the next month's statement with the equivalent credit appears and evens it out. This is an absurd and ridiculous step to take in order to prevent a company from taking a mandatory, interest free one month loan from you without your consent, but I did the math and did as he suggested. I just had to wait a month and re-enroll and then everything would be fine.

But this is Time Warner Cable we are talking about here.

Fifteen days after I cancelled auto-pay and paid the amount that I should owe, Time Warner Cable charged me the entire balance automatically. Let me repeat that. Fifteen days after I removed Time Warner Cable's right to take money for me and made a payment for what I properly and truly owed them, they AGAIN, without authorization, deducted that SAME AMOUNT for a second time PLUS the cost of the PPV that I DID NOT RECEIVE!!! This is where I started to lose it, mostly because I was leaving the country the next day and I'd have to deduct the act of theft from my vacation budget.

As calmly as I could, I called Time Warner. Billing was busy twice before I got through. I was put on hold and a few minutes in they just dropped me completely. I called back, was put on hold, and then was randomly transferred from hold to a machine asking me a question I didn't understand about some tech I don't have. It sounded like it was meant for their installers. On the FIFTH try I got a rep that was able to put me on hold without losing me. He said that even though I did indeed cancel auto-pay over two weeks earlier, that "I must have already been in a batch scheduled to go out."

Bluntly I stated that credit would not work and that they needed to refund me flat out. He put me on hold again and came back to tell me they could do that. He just had to fill out a form and it would be refunded in 48-72 hours. Knowing that would be fine, I consented and shortly after left for my trip satisfied.

But this is Time Warner Cable we are talking about here.

I returned from my trip this morning and was able to check my banking situation. They never refunded the money. What I am listed as owing on the website makes no sense. The online statement in pdf form gives me an error message when I try to download it, but only the December one that I need -- all the others archived will load perfectly.

I know I need to call them, but I am at a loss here. This is the single worst experience I have ever had with a company and I have dealt with Time Warner Cable previously. Yet there is nothing I can do to punish them while still retaining TV at all, let alone TiVo. I can't get either dish provider because of obstructions even if I was willing to get rid of my TiVo, but I am not.

What would you do?

Refurb replacement w/in 30 days?

After nearly a month of intermittent troubles, I've given up on my current Roamio box and asked Tivo for a replacement. After going through all the hoops, they eventually agreed to replace it, but said they would send a refurbished box.

I told them that I was still within the 30 day return window and I wanted a NEW replacement box. They said "okay," they can send a new one, but that it will still be just the bare box, not in the original retail packaging (no cables, remote, etc.).

I feel like they just "yes'ed" me and are sending a refurb anyway. Does anyone else have any experience or knowledge about this?

(Certainly if I had purchased from BestBuy instead of direct from Tivo, I could have walked into the store and exchanged for a new retail box. Maybe I should have fully returned my unit, and repurchased later.)

Does anybody else get this error on TBS ?

I'm on COMCAST, Miami and I have a Roamio Plus. I'm using a CableCard that was installed on a previous Tivo with no issue at all. After transferring and activating the card on the new Tivo all channels work as expected except TBSHD (421). You can watch this channel sometimes, but when it returns from commercial breaks the screen goes blank and the v53 error appears.

I've tried changing channels, changing to a SD channel and back and nothing. The problem autocorrects itself after a while as long as the channel is not tuned. When you start watching the channel again after a whiles it does it again.

Any suggestions ?

(I have tried with two different Tivo boxes, and two different CableCards, same result)

Graveside TV Funerals

It seems every time there is a funeral on a TV show or movie there is a beautiful graveside service. Has anyone else noticed this?

I have been to several funerals for rich and poor and the service is always inside some tacky Holiday Inn like funeral home room. Then they cart the corpse off to the cemetery where they store it for burial at the grave digger's convenience.

Are graveside funerals a TV trope or are they actually common in some places? Most funerals I have attended have been in Michigan so I supposed funeral home only services could be a Michigan thing.

Bowl Games Wishlist?

All of the existing info I can find in the forums seems to apply to Wishlists on the SD interface...

How can I create a Wishlist for all College bowl games on the Roamio, without it recording classic game repeats, pre-game shows, etc? Just the games, just Live...

Just seems as though the HD interface was created by a bunch of programmers who didn't understand the nuances of how the users were utilizing the existing UI features, thereby crippling it.

Is HGTV guide data farked everywhere or just Cablevision?

I have several season passes set up on HGTV to record New episodes only. However, it continually records repeats which is extremely annoying because they sometimes air 20 or more repeats in a day, each of which I then need to individually delete.

I gather that the issue is that the guide data is faulty. I want to start grousing to someone (besides you guys) but am not sure whether it's an issue with HGTV in general or Cablevision specifically.

Can anyone please confirm whether they experience this on other cable providers? If so, I'll grouse to HGTV. If not, the Dolans are getting a call :)

Premiere Multi-room can not stop a recording on Roamio, usually

When I am at one of my Premieres and looking at the contents of my Roamio Pro, I can select the option to stop a currently recording show. When I do this, it does the bla-blink noise as if it worked, but the command is ignored. While this is happening, all other multi-room features work fine. Sometimes after re-booting everthing the "stop recording" command may work for a little while, then always stops working. Additionally, I can stop currently recording shows on the Roamio from my Mini as well as the iPad app. I have called this in to support a few times. They claim there is no such known issue. After full re-boots it works again. Then after I hang up it stops working again. Could I be the only one with this issue? Fyi: I have 1 roamio pro, 2 premieres and 1 mini, all on a moca network. thx

Bose CineMate 1SR with Premier

Does anyone use the Bose 1SR with their Premier remote? Is there known remote codes that will work. I found a couple threads that were quite old and suggested searching remotes.com or something but didn't see any "positive" results that hinted a working code.

The Bose isn't installed yet and just thought I'd try gathering some information. I would like to use it with the XL/4XL - GloRemote. I have a couple NIB "Slide" remotes that I was considering selling but still have if I needed to use one of those.

I was considering the sale of those again after the holidays. Any interest? NIB never used. Came with my XL and 4XL as additional purchased accessories. I just found I actually just liked the Glo.

roamio connected to wifi- possible to use ipad app to download shows?

My roamio pro is connected to the network using wifi. impossible for me to hardwire (even using moca) in my house. i installed the ipad app, entered the media access key, and connected to the roamio. i see a listing of my shows and can control the roamio using the ipad's remote. but when i try to setup streaming on the ipad app, i get an error that no streaming devices are found. roamio pros should have streaming capabilities built in. is it not possible to use streaming (or downloading to the ipad) when the roamio is connected via wifi?

What irritations have you noticed in the Roamio's UI?

Edit: before I begin, let me say that the Roamio's UI is TiVo's best UI yet and I applaud their development effort for it. For me, it wouldn't take much to make it perfect for needs, and that's why I started this thread.

I'll start off.

1. In the Premiere's SD UI, when I had multiple episodes of a show, I was able to use "Channel Up" and "Channel Down" in the episode description page to move between them. I was able to quickly see all description information update (episode number, airing date, duration, etc.) as I moved through the shows.

The Roamio UI shows most of the information in the truncated summary on the right (which is clever design!), but not all of it. When I select a show to see the full description in the UI, I wish I could still use "Channel Up" and "Channel Down" to move between them.

2. Although the Roamio menus are impressively fast compared to the Premiere HD menus, there is still some lag before it completely renders all menu items. I noticed that if I move the selection cursor before the menu is finished rendering, it will force the cursor back to the original item when the menu render completes.

To see this, go to My Shows, then find a list of episodes for a show. Go to the detailed information page for the first show. If you press "left" to to back to the episode list and immediately press "up" or "down" to move to another show, the cursor will be forced back to the original show if you beat the menu.

Strangely, some shows redraw their menu very quickly and some do not.

Why is my Roamio repeatedly recording this unwanted show?

My Roamio is repeatedly recording a weather segment from The Weather Channel:

Northeast Regional Forecast: 12/18/13
Northeast Regional Forecast: 12/19/13
Northeast Regional Forecast: 12/20/13
Northeast Regional Forecast: 12/23/13

They are short segments (under a minute) and they are airing at early morning times (1:57am, 3:58am, etc.) when nobody is awake.

I do not have a season pass for this show. When I select one of these shows, the UI shows "Get a Season Pass" as one of the options. I double-confirmed that it's not listed in the season pass manager.

I have suggestions turned off.

I viewed the recording history to try to figure out why it's recording these segments. However, the history doesn't show successful recordings; it shows only shows that do not record and their reasons.

I checked the to-do list for upcoming days and there are no such episodes scheduled to record. I'll keep an eye on things to see if more shows so up.

In the meantime, does anyone know why my Roamio is recording these unwanted shows?

Lip sync issue with Dolby Digital audio

Has anyone had audio sync issues with Dolby Digital audio? I notice it pretty regularly on my Premier XL. I see it most on Agents of SHIELD, and a little bit on Sleepy Hollow. Both are DD shows.

On the other hand, audio for Letterman and SNL are fine.

Anyone else see this? (We're on antenna service, for what it's worth.)


Does renaming on Tivo.com not work anymore?

i recently added a third tivohd to my account and tried renaming all three boxes after moving them around in my house. on tivo.com and in the debug menu, the box names are correct. but in the "now playing" list, they're still showing up with the old names (the new box has a (2) after it, as it had the same name as another of the boxes until i changed them).

i've tried rebooting them all, changing network settings, etc. but nothing seems to force the name changes to update. i thought maybe tivo stopped supporting this feature on the older boxes, but maybe someone here can shed some light.

Can someone in the TWCNYC area tell me if their TiVo program guide shows any programming for channel 536 (KBS)? As long as I've had CC service with TiVo - there has never been any programming listed - only "To Be Announced" or something like that.

However, on TWC's settop box, channel 536 in their guide shows full programming info (even though it's not often correct, but that's another story).

I've sent a number of emails to TWC over the years and they don't seem to understand the issue or say they have no issue. I just want to verify that someone else sees the same as me.

That being said, trying to convince TWCNYC they have a programming guide issue with CC service is impossible.
