Guess I'll kick off another season premiere thread for our favorite "Sons" :p
Looking forward to another insane and wild ride. :D
(though not so much more of the same ol' (lady) rhetoric when any of the main female characters appear on screen)
Maybe a stupid quesiton, but I couldn't find the answer in the manual. How do you enter text with the remote? I can't sign into netflix because I can't figure out how to enter text.
I saw the Romeo on display @ Best Buy and the model I saw only had HDMI, can someone confirm the middle and highest model has Component & HDMI as options? I use both outputs on my current Tivo Premier HD, HDMI and Component to two TV's in the house.
We're aware of an issue with the Roamio with the grace period functionality.
Normally, a unit that hasn't been activated yet has a grace period of service. However, we're seeing a bug for Roamio units.
If you set up a Roamio unit and complete Guided Setup, if you're seeing the box in a deactivated state, please wait one hour, then force a connection to the TiVo service. (http://support.tivo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/395
At that point, grace period functionality will work normally.
We are investigating the bug and working to correct it. But in the meantime, the workaround listed here will need to be employed (or you can just activate service by visiting http://tivo.com/activate/
We apologize for the problem.
A couple of things I'd like to see added to the iPad app...
1) I'd like to see the "Watch Now" option improved so you can select which TiVo to watch the show on. Currently the "Watch Now" option only offers two choices "Watch on iPad" or "Watch on TV". The "Watch on TV" option always plays the show on the TiVo that the show was recorded on. So there is no way for me to pick a show on my TiVo upstairs and have it play on the TV downstairs.
2) I'd like to see it do real live TV like the Mini can. Rather then this macro system they use now where it starts a recording and plays that, I'd like to see it allocate a live tuner just like the Mini and stream that directly.
3) I'd like to have the ability to transfer a recording from one TiVo to another via the iPad app. Perhaps with the option to bulk select them via checks. After moving nearly 200 shows from my old Elite to my new Roamio I realized how much of a PITA it was and this would provide a much easier transition to a new box.
In perfect working condition, we just upgraded to a Roamio and TiVo Mini's all over the house so we have 2 extra TiVo's being unused. We also purchased the 3 years extended warranty and its still under warranty

Asking 360 obo.
Last week the White House announced Obama was going to make a TV speech tonight.
My Tivo is not showing it.
This is inexcusable. It's one thing if an announcement of some event is made on the same day. This speech was announced several days ago.
We pay for the Tivo program guide. The least they can do is keep it accurate and up to date.
I know part of the problem is Tribune Media. But their website, Zap2It, shows the speech. Tivo still does not.
This is is not an isolated instance. Tivo is so busy adding bells and whistles to the box, they ignore the basic function. Without up to date and accurate schedules, Tivo is useless.
So, the Roamio has been out for a couple of weeks now. Time to start a ratings thread so that people can indicate what their satisfaction is with TiVos latest darling.
Feel free to comment on why you voted as you did.
I dinged one point for the lack of a full HD experience and that there aren't enough online offerings (although that is out of TiVo control to some extent). Otherwise, I have to say that this is by far the coolest TiVo to hit the market since the S1.
TiVo really seems to be on a roll with the Roamio. The Roamio forum is about to tick over the 10K mark on the post count, which is rather remarkable when you consider that the box has only been available for a couple of weeks.
By comparison the post count for the 3.5+ year old Premiere forum is only 80k.
Does anyone here have any experience using a Roku 3 with Play On to watch network shows via the network's website?
We currently have 2 premieres; one for the main family room TV and one in our master bedroom. I am getting tired of paying Tivo $130 each for the annual plan when we only record a few shows. We mostly use them for Netflix and it's a subpar experience for that. It locks up and becomes unresponsive all of the time.
So I am thinking about replacing them with Roku 3s and Play On to stream the few OTA shows that we watch. This includes Amazing Race, Mentalist, Revolution, etc.
If you have used this set up before, how well does the Play On work with CBS shows on their site? Picture quality and sound quality acceptable? I don't need them to be perfect, but I don't want to feel like I am watching an amateur youtube video either. I have read great things about the Roku 3 but want to make sure I know what I am getting into before going through the hassle of switching everything out.
When my box switches resolutions, the screen goes black, then it takes a couple of seconds to paint on the black, then a couple more seconds for the blue background to paint.
E.g. Live TV and menu shows in 1080i, settings switches to 720p.
Rather annoying, when I've gotten used to my FiOS DVR that never needs to switch resolutions or switch of the video feed, e.g. I can search, menu, anything, while the video keeps playing uninterrupted and minimized or in he background.
The video settings are configured to support all resolutions, my TV supports all the offered resolutions.
Is there any way to configure the box so it always stays in one resolution, instead of switching?
Just curious if these are ever updated? If so, what are the latest (and best) versions to have?
A year or so ago, I turned in my two S-cards for a single M-card. I have had the same Tuning Adapter since it first became available.
Performance is a little better but I still get some flaky performance.
Lately AMC has been pixelating badly for Breaking Bad.
I bought the Roamio Plus and one Mini and we love it. No issues with Fios.
I have one thing that Tivo should change. Right now, if the Roamio is recording suggestions and all tuners are occupied, it will not let the Mini watch live TV. I know I could turn suggestions off to avoid this problem, but we like the suggestions feature. My wife will be confused because the Mini will tell her all 6 tuners are occupied and she cannot watch live TV. Upon investigation, on each occasion, the Tivo was recording several suggestions. I think that if a Mini attempts to watch live TV, it should cancel one of the suggestions.
I know one solution is to record the show she wants to watch, but this shouldn't be necessary.
I love the Tivo otherwise.
I'm starting to think Barbie is being framed.
in setting up the new Roamio Plus with the built-in wireless adapter I had no initial problems establishing wireless connectivity, however what I am seeing is the wireless connection dropping completely on an intermittent basis. When this happens, if I go back to the wireless setup screen and let it find the SSIDs, no networks are displayed. If I continue to try this eventually the wireless networks show up and I am able to re-connect.
Does anyone have any advice on calibrating the PQ from the Roamio? I have an ISF calibrated 65VT30 Panasonic plasma and I observe that compared to the XL4 my Roamio PQ looks like it is off a little bit color temperature wise.
The Roamio plugs into an Onkyo 818 AVR which is set to pass-through to the Plasma, but the Onkyo does have an extensive set of picture calibration controls if I choose to use them.
I guess I would need a test video I could load to the Roamio to do the adjustment, or I would need access to a station that broadcast picture calibration charts.
