Finally bit the bullet and purchase a Roamio my 1st Tivo box. Are they no longer doing a free trial?
Was considering going the lifetime sub way but want to make sure its what I want 1st.
I just got home with my 5 lb 6 oz baby roamio pro. I have just hooked it up and it's loading all the info.
I bought it today (1/16/14) from Best Buy. They were nice enough to match the $100 off the box AND I got the $50 gift card. I wanted to buy from Best Buy because if something was wrong I can just go right back to the store which isn't too far from me instead of having to ship things back and forth. I also used the $50 gift card to buy the 4 yr geek squad extended warranty. Some will say that's unnecessary but I just wanted a little extra piece of mind. If I'm already spending all this upfront money, what's just a little more. I also ordered the slide pro remote from tivo because I wanted a good backlit remote.
I still have to get the cable card from TWC socal but once I do... what's next?
Are there any tips and tricks you can share with me? All the nice little remote control tricks to switch between tuners and things like that? Anything that I should be on the look out for.
Thanks in advance!
Hello, I am switching providers to Xfinity and would like to do away with the cable boxes all together. I had Frontier Fios and used my Tivo HD (on a monthly plan) with a cable card in one room. I have been a Tivo user for many years.
I would like to use a Tivo as my main cable box and take advantage of Xfnity's on demand services. I also stream Netflix, Amazon Prime and am considering Hulu. I may end up eventually being a cord cutter, but the streaming services are not there yet.
I like the idea of the Mini being able to stream to other TV's in the house, including live TV. For me that could potentially up to three or four other TV's.
From what I understand the Premier XL4 can work with Xfinity On Demand (it is active in the Portland, OR area) as well as the Mini's and it has built in MOCA.
I know that Romeo has the built in MOCA and Stream and 2 more tuners. Does the Mini still use one of the tuners to stream TV or has that gone away?
The Premier XL4's are one a pretty good special right now through Tivo Shop, so that is appealing. Finally, would my old HD be any good at keeping around? I am kind of confused as to whether I can use that to stream from either the Romeo or XL4. I know it won't do live TV streaming.
I have a bedroom in our basement that had a TiVo HD (TCD652160) that started having problems tuning in channels. It would happen randomly, not all the time and different channels at different periods would just not "lock in" and be viewable. I thought it was the TIVo itself. Then, I read some posts here and thought maybe the cable card's firmware needed to be updated.
I pursued this, but Comcast informed me there was no "firmware update" to be done for my cable cards. I thought it was simply bad Comcast service and moved on. A few weeks later, I got a refurb 2-tuner premiere and stuck it in this room thinking the problem would be solved. Nope, same exact problem; random channel loss.
Therefore, I figured since it happened to both Tivos, there had to be a problem with the cable line. This has been confirmed even more as the TiVo HD was moved into the basement rec room and now there are no problems at all with it. It tunes in EVERY station fine.
While the TiVo HD was in this room, I ran a channel signal test. Was getting in the 90s on ALL channels. Same thing with the Premiere. What is even weird though is that if the channel wasn't tuning in at that moment, it would then tune in once I ran the signal strength test on it.
My other various TiVos (premieres and a Series 3 -OLED) work fine in other areas of the house too. Any ideas/theories on what may be going on here & in this one room?
The new verizon pop-up ads are very obnoxious, especially on a tablet. On my iPad if I scroll down past the close box on the ad I cannot get it back and have to go back up a level and then reload the post.
This morning I noticed the iOS app icon was different. Haven't noticed any functional changes yet, but seems to be far less flaky (so far).
Will be interesting to see how it works when I get to stockholm this weekend.
I have a Premiere and a Series 2 and can transfer shows between the two. My problem is that I can't transfer the shows that are copy protected, I don't necessarily need to transfer them, rather just be able to watch them when in different rooms and a particular show happens to be on the other room's Tivo. Any suggestions about how to do this?
Seems the Roamio was too much of a lure for me...
With the demise of Net Neutrality the only thing guaranteed is that we will definitely see some changes and growing pains as the IP delivery companies try to get a piece of the revenue pie from the big internet companies.
Netflix and YouTube use 28% and 16% of the peak bandwidth respectively. One of the first changes you are going to see is Verizon and others charging Netflix and YouTube based on the "weight" they put on the infrastructure.
Netflix is going to have to recoup this revenue in some manner, either by adding advertisement in a Hulu+ model or by increasing rates to end users. Or possibly by a combination of the two by adding a premium (non advertisement tier).
Would you pay more for your Netflix account to avoid advertisement?
I think I will add a poll
If I want to give a family member my old premiere because I've upgraded and want them to get it at a lower rate because of the multi -service discount can I just keep the TiVo in my name and give it to them? This is for OTA. I guess the downside would be we'd have to share the account login and PW if they wanted to make any changes to programming through the web or the IOS app. Would Tivo care? The guide would be the same since they live the next town over.
I am sure nobody probably cares but I wanted to say I purchased a Mini last night to go with my Roamio Basic and it is great! Set up was a breeze. Just went online activated the Mini waited 15 minutes and everything was ready to go. I use Ethernet and it works great. Total time of setup probably 45 minutes because the Mini had to do an update.
Just wanted to share a positive experience since sometimes all the post seem like there are nothing but problems.
I watched the pilot. Laura Vandervoort was the only actor I recognized in a cast of American Apparel and Axe Body Spray commercial looking characters. They pushed the envelope during the sex scenes for the pilot. I doubt if every episode will be like that. According to syfy.com, Elena is the world's only female werewolf. I've never come across this angle before. Although I definitely don't need another supernatural being show on my schedule, I'll watch for a while unless it gets unbearably bad.
edit: Elena is the world's only werewolf, not vampire
Recently my Premier which has always been a bit glitchy in menus has developed a new behavior. You'll sometimes hit the menu button and instead of the menu you get a black screen. The live TV is still visible in the top right corner so the signal seems fine, but the menu itself is black. If you move the menu selection around via the up/down arrows, you can hear the sound effect and you can return back to live TV with the proper button. Hitting the menu button twice typically resolves, but sometimes you have to go in and out a few times.
Is this a failure sign I should be aware of or is it some new awesome menu bug that got introduced recently?
I recently got my Roamio and was looking through the launchpad this morning and quite disappointed I could not find Twitch.tv available for streaming. The community of watching live game streams is fairly large and growing, with hundreds of thousands of people watching at any one time and huge spikes around tournaments that are held.
Adding support for channels such as twitch.tv would definitely make tivo more attractive to this community. Is there any possibility of the Roamio ever supporting this?
I've never started a show thread before and am only starting this one to say what an absolutely ridiculous episode this was. Suspending disbelief is one thing - you have to do that to enjoy this show in general - but this episode required one to stop thinking altogether. Unless it was intended to be tongue-in-cheek (and I don't think that's their style), I hate it when writers think we're all idiots.
Mid 2013 TiVo Premiere XL4 randomly freezes/pauses during play back. Last weekend while watching a NFL football game that still recording, I behind about an hour from real-time and with no input on the remote the video froze and .5-1 second later resumed.
Curious I rewound and played forward the pause/freeze repeated in the same place.
Service is provided by Comcast with a Motorola CableCard/M-Card.
I wonder who/what the culprit is. This is the third Tivo I've owned dating back 2000 (60 hour Phillips) and I've never experienced this issue.
From tivoHD to Roamio and to the Mini, when I program the tivo remote to change my television's input, it seems to be missing the ENTER function. You can scroll through the inputs, but you cannot hit enter so the input does not change immediately, and the display options remain on screen. So you just have to stop at the input you want and just wait it out. Kind of annoying. When you change inputs with your TV's native remote, you can hit enter and the display will disappear immediately.
At least this is my experience. Is this everybody else's as well? Or, is there something I'm doing wrong?
Can someone refer me to a link that explains how to install a larger HD in a base Premiere Tivo? It's an original 2 tuner (50hrs?) that had an Extender attached and the internal HD has failed.
All my google searches seem to include the cloning option which I don't need.
Do I need to obtain an image?
PyTivo has been working fine for quite some time. I used it just a couple of days ago and all was well.
Suddenly it's not.
It's running on a Win7 PC, the service is running and http://localhost:9032
gives me the configuration menus.
On the Tivo side (actually 2 Tivos an S2 and a Prremier) both see the list of videos on the PC and I'm able to select a video to be transferred.
That's where the problem begins. The Tivos (both) say the item has been added to the transfer list and will start asap. But they never do! There are no other items waiting to be transferred.
While the Tivo is not able to start the transfer, ffmpeg runs at about 50% cpu utilization. And worse, additional ffmpeg processes keep starting and eventually that brings the PC to its knees.
I've tried tuning off Windows Firewall and disabling my av program (Avira) but that did not help.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
(Yes I know that with Tivo we don't watch commercials)
When watching live TV we see promotions for American Idol often. In the commercials, a woman recovering from addiction is featured and of course her audition seems to go really well. The local morning radio and local news are all abuzz because the woman is a local girl getting national attention.
My theory is that each major market in the USA probably has their own local contestant highlighted in the local promotional material, whipping up the local media as well.
So, in your American Idol commercials, are you seeing a woman with brown hair, who mentions she had to get help with addiction, with a great audition-- or are you seeing someone else, perhaps from your part of the country?
