This is the version of pytivo I am using. It is pyTivo-wmcbrine-2009.03.19-RC1. Are their a newer version?
I have added 21 updates the last I believe was in Aug 2011. I do not have the names has I mistakenly erased the hard that they on. I only has number now.
I have been trying to get my new Actiontec MoCA adapters to work and it just dawned on me that my cable modem and my cable TV are on separate lines. Which means they won't work together. Since my whole point here was to try to avoid rewiring my house in any way, shape or form --- what the heck am I supposed to do now? And bear in mind that I am not any sort of electrician or wiring expert. I have a Premier 4 in one room and a Premier in another and neither one is in the same room as my modem/router. Am I doomed to go back to my powerline adapters? Thanks.
New user to Premiere XL4. When I am looking at the guide menu and the preview window is showing in upper right corner, all is normal....BUT when I choose a program to record the screen quickly jumps to full screen and then back to the preview window--takes just enough time to miss a few words of the program showing in the window. Is there a way to make the record just register the check marks and not have that annoying screen change? Hope I explained it right. TIA

I just purchased the upgraded TiVo desktop so that I can transfer TiVo recordings to my iPad (which was the reason that I wanted TiVo in the first place), but have not been able to do so.
I successfully transferred the recordings to my PC and then followed the instructions to convert the files into those suitable for an iPad. I see them in a folder on my computer labeled "Recordings for portables" and they are in the MPEG-4 format. However, I cannot get these files into my iTunes library or onto my iPad. I try dragging and dropping the files into iTunes and nothing happens. I try manually adding the files within iTunes and nothing happens. I don't receive error messages - the recordings simply aren't added into my iTunes library.
I spoke to a TiVo technician via chat, who was unable to help me (she said that the recordings should automatically appear in iTunes once converted). She encouraged me to to contact iTunes, which I did. However, they said that they were unable to help me. I have Googled this extensively, and found nothing helpful. I tried changing the files names of the MPEG-4 files (to eliminate special characters) and that didn't work either.
Please help me! The only reason that I purchased TiVo and spent the extra $24.95 to upgrade TiVo Desktop was so that I could put purchases on my iPad. I am very frustrated and disappointed that I'm having so many problems with this.
I got a new Tivo Premiere XL4 and it restarts on its own, randomly as far as I can tell, at least once a day. I notice it once a day anyway. It could be happening more.
Can anyone give me an idea as to what the problem might be and if there is a fix? I know I could return it but I'd rather not if I don't have to.
I saw an older thread on this topic that seemed to be related to an update causing the restarts. My XL4 is newer and up to date on updates. Also, I have another not-quite-as-new XL4 that doesn't do this.
Also, the internet connection is good and working, so I don't think a problem with the connection is causing the reboots. An HD tivo was using that same connection for years and didn't have that problem.
Hi! Just joined, never posted before. I've been using Tivo since 2001. I currently have a TivoHD as my main machine. I had a Tivo Expander for a few months, but I guess it died as I could no longer boot up my Tivo. So I disconnected it (Lost all my new shows, boo) and now since I'm having reboot issues, I'm thinking it's the hard drive, and thinking of getting a new one, with higher capacity. So before I do that, I want to transfer my saved shows onto the computer. It took 1 and 1/2 hours to transfer 1 hour of an HD show. Is this normal? Is it faster using a Premiere? That would be my other option, to just get a Premiere rather than a new hard drive on the TivoHD. I also have a Humax DVD Tivo and use the Multi Room Viewing, would I no longer be able to do that if I got the Premiere? Thanks for any help!
I have 2 S3 (oled 648250B), one works, one not; both have lifetime.
I tried swapping the HD and PS, still only the single LED.
So guessing it's the last part, the motherboard.
Unless someone else has any other ideas ??
If I buy a ebay/craigslist S3 to swap parts can I retain my lifetime ?
Unless I misunderstand, my TIVO is always buffering about 30 minutes of data even when I am watching live.
- Is it true that my TIVO is always buffering ?
- Can I turn that feature off when I want to ?
According to the Google study, there is a positive correlation between hard drive usage and drive failure (highly dependent on drive age). I have no reason to live buffer shows like, e.g. Seinfeld, so I could save some wear and tear if I could turn time shifting off. I use my TIVO as my only source of HD (I have no set top box), so I watch shows live using the TIVO tuner very often.
Using just the optical out into a A/V receiver with no
HDMI, is the optical audio only 2 channel PCM or is there a selection of DD 5.1? This reviews states it is only PCM;
10. Toslink cable and audio problems: Dolby digital and surround sound does not work through optical audio toslink cable. This problem started after one of their software updates. When I called TiVo about issue #10, they told me that they could do nothing about the issue, it probably was a hardware issue,
Question applies to the Series 3, the 'HD' & the current Premier.
Considering setting up a readyNAS for use with my XL4. I was wondering what it will and won't do as far as storage and playback.
1. will it preserve the metadata such as show info, original air date, etc.
2. is there a way to stream movies to the tivo that were loaded to the NAS via PC?
3. is it possible to set the Tivo to Go folder, to a folder on the NAS?
and tips as to which ReadyNAS model to go with? I plan on using WD Red 3tb drives in RAID0
I'm thinking of dropping cable. Would it still be possible to use my TiVO for access to Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Spotify, etc.?
I was originally told back on my Series3 that 1tb was the largest recognized by the Tivo. I now have a Premiere XL4 and I see weaknees offers a 2tb external drive. Is there anything special that has to be done to use a 2tb external drive? And is 2tb the maximum external size for the XL4?
Also, is there a compiled list of working external enclosures for the Tivos?

I have a TivoHD w/ 2TB HDD & lifetime service. I've tried improving my wireless link and then converted it to a (very stable) MOCA connection to my other S3OLED Tivo, but the TivoHD continually "drops" the S3OLED from its NPL. Apparently this is a common issue that Tivo has not yet fixed, that the S3OLED does not suffer from.
We don't use cablecards, so I don't mind that the S3OLED versions need to S-cards rather than a single M-card. We just get the free HD channels (nbc, cbs, abc, ..) and deal with analog for the rest. We also do not use Netflix, so that feature of the TivoHD will not be missed.
Long story short- I'm heavily considering finding someone with a S3OLED, 2TB, PLS that might be interested in a straight swap for my THD, 2TB, PLS..
Any interest out there?
If you haven't seen it, it is a series similar to Man Vs Wild and Survivor Man, but they have 2 people trying to survive instead of just 1.
Season 1 and 2 stars Cody Lundin (a naturist who doesn't usually wear shoes) and Dave Canterbury (a military-trained survival instructor).
This season Canterbury is being replaced by Joseph Teti, a former Green Beret. Not sure why Canterbury is out, I liked how he offset Lundin.
Anyways the first two episodes air back-to-back tonight on Discovery:
The season opener, a one-hour special entitled Unbraided, features never-before season footage of Lundin, who introduces audiences to his new cohort, and gives fans a glimpse into what to expect from the pair.
The premiere is followed by Mars on Earth, which takes the two to the driest place on earth. Chiles Atacama desert, which NASA uses as a testing ground for its Martian rovers.
Select a show from the My Shows list, watch it to very near the end (all but the ads, etc), give it a <- to get the save or delete - and it jumps to the next higher show in the My Shows list. If you're not careful, you'll delete the next higher show from My Shows. It doesn't happen every time, but mostly it seems to. If its already the top show in the list, no problem, and it never jumps to a lower show. :confused: 188.8.131.52 on an XL4.
Final Gear reports that according to the ticketing people, they will be filming new episodes on January 23rd. As they usually film on the Wednesday before, this means a new episode will air in the UK on Sunday, 27th with four more to follow.
I'm sure it will air on BBCA very soon after the UK showing. Those of us that use *alternative* means, probably won't even wait that long!! ;)
A couple days ago I experienced a problem with my five-year old HD TiVo with Lifetime subscription. I went to watch something I'd expected it to record that morning, only to find that it hadn't been recorded. So I clicked around the TiVo menus and saw that my TiVo seemed to have forgotten it was a "lifetime" device. I saw a message saying that my account was expired or cancelled (I forget the exact terminology). I also saw that the menus shown to be were limited to a very restricted set of options. I'm assuming this is what people see when they don't have a paid subscription for their device or lifetime service on their device.
So I tested my network connectivity. The test was successful. I tried a service-connection to refresh my program data, and this failed. I logged into the website, and the website showed my device as correctly having lifetime service. So I rebooted my device completely - and only then did it register as having service. Again, I forced a connection to download the program data - and when I did that, it correctly downloaded the new data.
Next, I checked my season passes. Every one of them showed up as "None Scheduled". Apparently when my device lost track of its subscription, it stopped checking when to record season passes. I re-ordered the list by moving one item higher in priority assuming this would force the TiVo to re-schedule everything - and this worked as I'd hoped.
If I look back at the Recording History I see a number of items listed as "Not Recorded" or "Won't Record" and when I check the details the TiVo says these items weren't recorded because "it was scheduled with a TiVo Plus service feature." with instructions on how to upgrade to TiVo Plus via their website.
From what I can tell - I'm back to normal, but I've never had a TiVo lose track of its subscription/lifetime service before. Has anyone experienced this before? Is it indicative of a one-time bad download, or a larger warning that this device may be near its end-of-life?

First a little backstory:
I know Charter has their own DVR, however, at the time I ordered my first Series 2 TiVo, Charter did not have DVRs available in my area. Since then I have also purchased a TiVoHD. Both have been working just fine, Series 2 with cable box to tune in premiums/digital stations and the HD with cable card and tuning adapter.
However, on 12/21 I added Charter Internet and did a self install. At that time, they change my package from Digital Home/Digital View/Charter Premium (Showtime & Movie Channel, HBO & Cinemax) to Charter TV Select/Silver Package. While I lost TMC and the Encore stations, I gained back stations that were in the Digital View Plus group (BBC America, Sundance, IFC, etc.) To me this was an even trade as the faster internet connection would enable better streaming via Netflix, Amazon, Epix, etc.
Here is the issue:
I seem to have lost many of the "basic" cable stations, such as the local stations. The HD versions in the "hundreds" range come in just fine.
A tech was called out on 12/22 to troubleshoot the lost channels issue. While working on the issue, he noted that mine was one of a couple of cable card calls he had. He called the next job to see if they were having the same issues and they were...using TiVo and HD comes in fine but not locals.
It should be noted that the channels come in just fine on the Series 2 as well as a direct connection to the TV.
At that point, the tech said it was most likely a larger problem on Charter's end and left. However, that call was after he did a lot of troubleshooting inside and outside the house. He was here for what seemed like a couple hours.
Here is the question:
I did not know if anyone here was having any issues like this and/or what my next course of action should be? The channels are still out and while most of the ones out are available in HD, not all of them are.
