I'm switching from Dtv to Cable and was curious as to how long I have before my HR10-250 and my Dtv DVR (Hr22 I think?) will allow me to finish watching the programming I've already recorded. Will they allow this indefenitly? Should I leave the sat connections in place or do I need to disconnect them before terminating my service?
I just don't want to terminate my service and then loose the ability to watch the stuff I've recorded. It might take a few weeks to get to it all.
About a year ago, I got the $99 lifetime offer for a Series 2 DT Tivo. I thnk it was shortly after I got a Premiere 2-tuner unit. I have since sold it (for much more too), but recently got a hold of a Series 3 (OLED) and I have read here of people getting the $99 lifetime offer for these units too.
From what I remember reading, I think you had to buy one of the newer Tivos in order to be offered the $99 lifetime on an older series 3 too, correct? I'm looking to possibly get a Premiere 4 in May (when my current Premiere subscription is up). Is it likely they could offer me the $99 option for this older Series 3 box as well? I haven't started service at all on this Series 3 under my account. Do I need to first establish a few months of service before they would offer it. Or how else does it work?
TNT, 10pm ET plus many repeats.
For the first time in a long time the laugh track got to me in this one. The scene where they were bringing in all the items, like the canoe, just wasn't funny but the laugh track was overbearing.
For me, the only entertaining part was learning Mike Tyson was the old lady, which explained why they were in a strip club. But that was 10 seconds.
I always wonder if the stars themselves know when things are bad, but they just go through the motions because it is a paycheck.
Storage Wars star Mark Balelo was found dead on Monday, two days after being arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine, according to multiple reports.
Suicide is suspected as Balelo was found dead in his car in the garage of apparent carbon monoxide poisoning, TMZ reports. They cited sources saying Balelo was distraught after his arrest.
Tonights show had Gina Torres from Firfly in it. Unless I missed it there wasnt any refernces to Firefly like they have done in past shows.
I currently have a single Tivo Premier DRV w/ cable card via Frontier (formerly Verizon) FIOS. I am a big Tivo fan.
We're moving into a new home in March that apparently has Comcast Xfinity available, and of course DirecTv or Dish would be an option.
So I'm trying to figure out whether I double down and stick with Tivo (probably would get a second DVR for the new home) or take advantage of all the new customer promos from DTV, Dish or Comcast.
Obviously we're biased towards Tivo here, but is it worth pursuing the other options seeing as I need to change things one way or the other? Oh I forgot, I also have Tivo Stream and really like it.
Thanks for any opinions/insight.
I had the external hard drive enclosure on one of my THR22's fail. It was just a no name with a fan. So I figured I would step up to a Thermaltake which is recommended (I bought two so I could upgrade one of my other units). Failed, hard drive not seen, both units. With a known good drive. I tried two other HD's a new Seagate 2 Gb and a new WD 2 Gb, same issue. I just ended up using them for backup drives on my PC's. So I tried a Rosewill that's also recommended. Also a fail. I looked online for the Antec that DirecTV recommended, $170!! for an enclosure??
I just gave up and installed the drive from the failed unit directly in the THR22, booted up fine, didn't format, all my programs intact. I do prefer the external drives for convenience, but at this point I give up!
I am trying to help a friend locate Guru Guides. I have an TiVo HD. He at first told me he had a TiVo. Then he told me it was a Directv TiVo. I am wondering if this is the case. To get play programs he has recorded he presses the "List" button. To record shows he presses "Guide." He says he doesn't have a TiVo button.
I was telling him to press the TiVo button then go to Kidzone Recommendations & Guru Guides. He has no TiVo button so can't do that.
Any easy button combinations he can press to find out what model he has? I suspect it is just Direct TV and no really a TiVo.
How many favors can get called in during a single episode? ;)
So many good moments. Some of my favorites:
"There's a chap in America, Charles Ponzi...."

Edith calling the Daily Telegraph for background information on her editor!
Loved the reaction shot of the Dowager as she hears Rose and Edith talking at the bottom of the stairs.
The scene where Lord Gratham bribes James into silence by appointing him First Footman -- brilliant! And his snow job on the policeman
But most of all, I'm really liking the interplay between characters as Tom and all the others carve out his place in the family.
Tom telling Lord Grantham that they need his people skills to make their new farming skills work -- genius.
I also loved all the nuances of wardrobe, especially during the cricket match. Note how on the 'big house' side, Lord Grantham has the most color on his sweater, Matthew has some, but a bit less, and Carson has one tiny bit.
In the scenes with Mary and Matthew around :36 in, plus the dinner afterwards, after dinner around :40, note the black jewelry worn by Mary, Cora, and the Dowager, and other black jewelry throughout the episode. On a recent episode of Antiques Roadshow, an expert did a display of Victorian 'mourning jewelry' and the progression of colors that the Victorians used as time went on. It's interesting to see how some of that tradition continues even into the '20s.
I have a well-used HR10-250 that's having issues with certain channels, dropping out audio and video intermittently (all SD Sat channels). The one thing I've been able to find in common with the affected channels is that they are all apparently on transponders 29 and 30 (or 30 and 31, one of the two). In any case, if I show signal strength, I get 90+ on both of the transponders on both tuners, but then it drops to zero and comes back (over and over). This has roughly the same frequency that the program has while watching it (either recorded or in standard live time-shift buffer).
I connected an old hughes non-DVR tuner and all the channels looked fine and I didn't have the dropout anymore.
Where do I look on the hr10-250 to diagnose the cause here? Does this seem like a board problem? I wouldn't suspect the hard disk since it's only certain channels, but don't want to discount the possibility.
So I'm getting into Spring Cleaning mode here.. I have a couple spare Tivo HDD pulls in a box in my closet.. I'd like to sell them (not doing me any good) but need to be able to identify them properly. Is there an easy way to identify which model image a Tivo HDD currently has on it? (I'm guessing using one of the upgrade boot CD procedures might be able to, but I'm not sure what to use or which commands to enter- I'm not looking to make a copy, just identify each.)
At the moment, I have three: two of them have writing on them identifying the model, so that's easy. A third just has "TIVO" written on it..
Maxtor QuickVIEW DiamondMax Plus 8 ATA/133 HDD 40GB (6K040L03102P3 / NAR61HA0)
- "Orig 540 Tivo" written on it
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 250GB 7200 RPM SATA (ST3250318AS)
- "Tivo HD Stock HDD" written on it
Western Digital Perfomer WD800 80GB (WD800AW-00DDK1)
- Only has "TIVO" written on it
"There are going to be tears," says Bryan Cranston (Walter), who *directs the midseason premiere.
Gunn confirms that at least one regular has been informed that he or she will bite the big one before the finale. "Anybody could go at any time," she says. "Trust me, it's going to be worth the wait."
If Hank doesn't buy it until the end, it has to be Walt, Jr., or Skyler.
Anyone know how to set up the TIVO power button to turn on/off both the tv (sony) and the a/v receiver (Pioneer) at the same time?
In the past I set this button to turn off the tv and left the receiver on all the time and it worked great. In this case the tivo fed the tv with hdmi and the tv fed the receiver back with a/v cables (I know not the best sound).
Now I installed a new Pioneer receiver and ran the hdmi from tivo to the reciever and hdmi from the receiver to the tv. So, now if i turn off the tv I still get the sound out the reciever unless that is also turned off.
It's such a pain to turn 2 items on and off all the time so I was wondering if there's some trick way to get the tivo remote to turn off both at the same time (maybe a secret code or a double code).
For people having issues with poor OTA reception I found a fix that is easy and works.
You want the central core of your coax cable to barely make a connection with the antenna connector on your Tivo. You can experiment with that and should see that it works. The problem is getting the cable to stay in place. There is an easy solution so that you can screw the coax cable in like normal and have a solid connection with good reception.
What I did was trim the central core (the pin that sticks out of the coax cable) of the coax cable down to about 25%. It is very easy and only requires a tin snip.
I was then able to fully screw the coax cable into the antenna connector for a secure connection and much much better reception. (I went from about 25-30 percent to about 70-75 percent).
This is very easy and takes about 10 seconds to do. I hope it helps since it solved my issue.
A new iPhone app just came out that uses face recognition to tell you who the celebrity is. Like Shazam, except it uses video instead of audio to ID the person. Pretty wild. But would you use it?
I could see this being especially useful for TiVo users because you could pause and rewind until you get a good shot of the actor you're trying to identify. Anybody heard of this or tried it yet?
The wife and I hard going to be in Orlando in serveral weeks. About the only theme park we haven't been to is the Harry Potter attraction at Universal Studios. I can't figure out from the Universal Studio if this is part of the "Islands of Adventure" or the "Universal Studios" side of the theme park. Can anybody tell me?
Also, is there any particular order to try to take in the attractions at Harry Potter in order to avoid lines? The wife is mostly interested in the 4D ride and anythings else that isn't a roller coaster. I wouldn't mind doing the roller coaster (I've done it back before it was re-themed for Harry Potter and it's a pretty good pair of rides).
Thanks for advice.
I have approximately 20 videos stored on my NAS (Apple Time Capsule) and have made the path available to TiVo desktop (Mac version). It works well for a while, then after a few sleep/wake cycles, I can no longer access the videos from either of my TiVo Premiere's. If I stop the service from within TiVo Desktop then restart it, all works well again for a while. I'd hate to have to repeat this process every time I want to watch one of these videos. Is there a more reliable method?
I sat the recording via the Guide last week, even added an extra hour when it prompted me. I get home last night at 11:30 and turn on the TV, and my TiVo tried to tape the Grammy's starting at 5 PM, and ended up taping the news and 60 Minutes.
West Coast, am I the only one?
