Good evening folks,
So... after buying a new TiVo Roamio and moving my TiVo (S3) HD to my office, I decided that I didn't need the extender anymore - it was just sucking needless power and giving me storage space I didn't need.
So I read up on what to do to disconnect an external drive. Followed the instructions, unplug TiVo, unplug external drive, plug in TiVo, when prompted, clear, thumbs down three times, hit enter, and all should be right in the world.
Except that after I did that, the TiVo would "process" my command, reboot, and bring me back to that screen of "hey, we don't see that external drive" screen. Do that thumbs down thingy again. Lather, rinse, repeat.
Alright, so my TiVo is having separation issues. So you know what, it's not worth the headache, I'll plug the external drive back in.
Yeah... that made my TiVo angry. Now it reboots, "Welcome! Powering up..." then "Almost there. Just a few minutes more..." and then GSOD - Serious problems, TiVo will try to fix it and it may take 3 hours. It reboots only a few seconds after the GSOD, back to "Welcome! Powering Up..."
This has been cycling for a while.
Did I just kill a perfectly fine TiVo?
I'm handy when it comes to computers - I fix them for a living. But thumbing through the 52 pages of some posts on the forum made my eyes blurry and searching just kinds brought me back to those posts.
I don't mind a project to make this work again, and I don't care about the programs - obviously since I was divorcing the drive and knew that was going to clear most of the programs on it.
Any direction is greatly appreciated... Thank you.
Tivo Stream vs. Slingbox 350 out of home video quality
Which has better video quality on a comparable LTE connection?
Gonna build a new computer, as my old one is about 4 years old....
Here is what I am thinking of.... (drum roll)
Cooler Master HAF932 case

Crucial Ballistix memory 16GB
Samsung 840 Pro SSD
Western Digital 2TB HDD for data

Any comments on any of my choices.... ?
I'm open to suggestions
So, my Cable service, Service Electric Cable TV, decide to encrypt my entire service and go entirely digital. Now I have no signal on my TiVo with a CableCARD. I spent over an hour with 2 people troubleshooting this and still nothing. They tell me that there is a problem with some TiVos and cards not working and they are working with TiVo to fix this. Any help here? My TiVo is a Premiere Series 4 2-Tuner model.
It would be great to see full titles of the programs on the menu.
Is anyone interested in buying a used Premiere that has an account status that stays on "in good standing" even though it has no TiVo service? It has old software that supposedly allows this. I cannot guarantee how long it will continue to work this way, but it appears to be permanent. If it is connected to the internet, the software will be updated, and this functionally will no longer work unless you purchase TiVo service. I have not modified the hardware or software in any way. It is functioning the way the programmer made it.
The bad side effects that I am aware of caused by using a Premiere with no internet connection in this way:
The clock is wrong, and it continues to drift.
A nag message pops up on the screen occasionally stating guide data has run out or there is no service.
The channels numbers will not match your channels unless you live in or near West Palm Beach, Florida and have Comcast. Even if you live near WPB, some channel numbers have and will change.
The hard drive size is the standard small size with two tuners. The model is TCD746320. The manufacturer date is July 31 2010. Only the TiVo, power cord and remote are included.
I am selling it because I decided to use a HTPC. It can be seen in the video shown here: http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb...=504978&page=2
$60 Local pickup in West Palm Beach, Florida, or $80 with shipping to United States contiguous 48 states.
This would be a great addition to the tiro!
This seems similar to an issue I found on the Premiere forum, but it isn't.
The issue is that I discovered a conflict in my to do list. There were five shows from four season passes set to record in the same time slot.
I then deleted the season pass that was attempting to record the fifth show.
The to do list now shows that the show that was causing the conflict is no longer set to record and all four remaining shows WILL record. OK so far.
BUT, if I press the red "C" button to show only conflicts in the to do list, the original conflict remains and pressing INFO on the show that will not record shows that the original conflicting show is still set to record.... even though per the regular to do list it is not.
This could be an issue where the conflict list hasn't updated yet, but it has been several hours.......
Since the return to Eastern Standard Time last week I've noticed an anomaly with manual recording. Last week and this week I wanted to set manual recordings for The Good Wife and The Mentalist due to NFL games running late. Here's what happened:
* Both weeks when I set the recording for The Good Wife I received a message saying the recording time had already passed. For example, this week I set the time from 9:45PM to 10:45PM (I performed the action at 7:45PM). A message popped up saying the starting time had already passed (which, obviously, it hadn't). I clicked on OK and the recording was then set properly.
* Last week because of the very late start time I set The Mentalist to start at 11:15PM and end at 12:15AM. TiVo refused to accept the manual setting, saying the end time had already passed. Apparently it wouldn't (or couldn't) recognize that 12:15AM was the next day and not the current day.
I've never had this issue before. Please note I have not yet received the new Fall Software Update, so that clearly isn't part of the problem. Any thoughts? Thanks.
I just heard an explosion down the street. TV was up too loud to tell where it came from. Grabbed my remote to rewind and listen again, and it won't work on life.
I have two premiere's and am considering upgrading to Roamio. I currently use the old style "standard definition" display, menus, etc. because they display faster than the HD versions. channels seem to appear quicker (less time with black screen), guide seems faster, et. IN other words the entire user interface experience seems quicker with the SD settings .
Is the old style SD menu option even available on the Roamio, and if it's not are the HD menus, guide, channel changes, etc. quicker on the Roamio than the HD menus on a premiere?
I'd like to see the option of setting up a playlist within the iOS app. My primary use case for upgrading to a Roamio was to be able to fill up an ipad with shows for my toddler to use on road trips. It would be nice to be able to queue up a number of these 30-minute kids' shows and get several hours of playback, rather than selecting individual shows and hitting play. (This feature is also maddeningly absent from apple's own "videos" app.)
Also, are there legal/licensing issues behind the lack of AirPlay support in the iOS app? It would be handy to stream shows from the tivo app to the appleTV at our destination.
Is there any movement to be able to access the Comcast/Xfinity OnDemand programming for the Tivo HD? I know we can get Netflix & Amazon (which we have to pay for the movies) but it seems ridiculous we cannot access the Xfinity OnDemand programming when we're paying the cable company for it. I have had a Tivo since the beginning (the HD box being my second one) and i have a lifetime service plan -- so getting the latest & greatest Tivo is not an option. I dont want to have to get the Comcast DVR but its kind of getting to that point. Anyone hear anything in the works for those of us with Tivo HD?
After being positive the non elim would be last week I was positive it would be this week and I was right :)
The only team I don't like is Pinky and No Brain. As long as they don't win I'm good.
I have a Roamio Pro that I installed at the end of September.
Twice now (11/1/13 and 11/10/13), the box has become unresponsive to the remote which is set for RF mode, a 2nd remote (Glo from my Premiere XL), Logitech Harmony One, and the TiVo application on my iPad. In each case any remote button press on any remote will trigger the amber light on the box to flash but the box would not respond. The box would just lock up at some random point, this most recent time while navigating My Shows. Live TV would still be playing in the preview window so the box is not totally locked up.
The only solution was to pull the plug, let the box reboot and then everything worked fine.
I called TiVo support and there have been no other reports of this according to them, but wanted to see if others have seen this or read about others with this issue. I do not want to swap out the box if this is potentially a software bug, but if most feel this is a hardware issue I will go the RMA route.
I figure if this is a software glitch a fix could potentially address this but the 90 day warranty window is something I do not want to miss out on.
Does Javadi not realize that Carrie and Saul will figure out in 15 seconds that he fed them different information about Brody? I guess the point is for them to fight about it. But he told them both that Brody didn't do it. I'm guessing that means he did it.
The actor playing Quinn is doing some excellent work this season.
The CIA power struggle is starting to resemble 24, with Saul playing the role of Jack Bauer. Only in reverse, policy-wise. Locking his future boss in the conference room pretty much cements him being done, doesn't it? Unless the President changes his mind about whom to appoint.
I could do without the Saul's marriage storyline.
Are we supposed to trust that Dar is on Saul's side now? I don't.
What does the episode title mean?
Just caught up with the 10/27 and 11/3 episodes of Talking Dead last night.
Quickly had to FF thru anything Marilyn Manson had to say just to have any hope of watching, then gave up around the half-hour mark and dropped that ep all together. Holy crap, what a train wreck! Why didn't they find some excuse to get him out of there after the first segment and try to save the hour?
Chris Jericho, on the other hand, was a great guest!
I haven't watched the 11/10 episode yet, but lets hope the producers learned something about having guests that help the show instead of torpedoing it!
Fooling around with the Mini, connected to XL4, both running current software. Haven't tested these all on the Premiers, too tired atm, but I think most of these happen on both.
under 'what to watch now'...
-the entries will show like 'live' 'xfinity' (on demand) and 'amazon' under the description, but there doesn't appear to be any way to select your source that I can discern, it just tries to tune the live tv channel when selecting the item. (why list em if you cant get to em?)
-when selected, some of them just drop you to live tv, back to whatever station you were tuned to last. Some of em go to strange places like music choice stations when it was a movie.
-it doesn't tell you anywhere what station the item is on, which would probably be better use of the space where the sources are shown, since you cant pick your source anyhow.
under 'browse tv and movies',
-under tv, suggestions... its empty. and then it suggests you 'hit enter to review thumbs', which is also empty. (this one does definitely work on the premiers)
-if you go into either collections or tv, then a category, then pick a item... it doesnt work well. movies seems to work fine. For a random example, pick tv, best comedies, then click on 'Cheers'. It shows tv, netflix and amazon as sources. But, when I go into the show, I get 'get a season pass' and 'record next episode' as the only choices, no way to get to netflix or amazon! (or hulu, etc). If you find a choice that live tv isnt available, your only option will be to make a wishlist, even if it is telling you there are other sources available.
My home network consists of a couple of Ruckus Zoneflex 7982 802.11n access points with an enterprise firewall sitting in front of a Comcast modem. I have three TiVo units and been using TiVo for many years and have never had any wireless issues - until I bought the Roamio Plus. Strangely the basic Roamio unit i also bought is having no connection issues.
After a reboot of the Roamio Plus everything works fine, and the wireless connection comes right up. After a few hours, however, the connection appears to fail and I get the dreaded message that the router has failed or the router is not reachable. I tried moving to a static IP address but this did not resolve the issue. The only reliable resolution to this problem is a reboot of the unit.
I opened a case with TiVo support weeks ago but there has been no resolution. I realize I could buy the old style TiVo 802.11n adapter which connects to the Ethernet port however I have been hoping that this would not be needed.
Currently running software version 18.104.22.168a-USA-6-848
Thanks for any suggestions.
Intense episode, No?
Really tired of Lizzy. I thought she had a plan taunting the Walker. I was wrong.
Carl was The Man.
Michonne needs to keep smiling.
The Governor - what will he do now? Maybe Carol will come back and get him.
