Replacement Premiere coming, what to do next?

Fri, 02/15/2013 - 15:14
I have a replacement Premiere coming due to a loud fan issue. In my current Premiere, I've already installed a WD20EURS 2TB drive. I'll obviously reinstall the original 500GB drive back in the current Premiere before I send it back, but I'm wondering if I can just drop in the WD20EURS into the new Premiere as soon as I receive it?

The only potential issue that I think I'll have is that the M-card "pairing" information is stored on the hard-drive, but I'm installing the hard-drive into new hardware. Can I just boot up the new Premiere with the WD20EURS, then call the Comcast M-card number to "re-pair" the M-card with the new hardware?

Any other issues to be aware of?

Thanks.

Hooking Premiere up to the internet

Fri, 02/15/2013 - 14:14
So my Premiere 4 just came today and I'm in the process of trying to set it up. Comcast is coming with the M-card tomorrow, but in the meantime I thought I'd do the basic setup.

Now, when it comes to connecting the TiVo to the internet I REALLY, REALLY don't want to blow $60 on the adapter. But how do I hook up my TiVo with ethernet when my TiVo is in one room and my router/modem/comcrap equipment is in the other room?

transferring .mov files to tivo

Fri, 02/15/2013 - 10:26
I have upgraded to Tivo Desktop Plus so I can watch my .mov home movies on my tivo. I can see the movies as transferable on my tivo, and when I click transfer it says they will be put in the To-Do list. However, they don't download and when I check the recording history it says "not transferred" because it is either copy protected (can't be since they are my home movies), not the right format (they are .mov which tivo desktop plus is supposed to support), or moved (which they are not). Any ideas?!?! Thx!

The Big Bang Theory 2.14.13 "The Tangible Affection Proof"

Both the harp and the map were such awesome Valentine's Day gifts that I never got past Sheldon scorning them. I kept waiting for him to show them to Amy- IMO she would have swooned like with the tiara.

Empty NPL - Shows deleted as soon as they are recorded

Fri, 02/15/2013 - 08:27
Here's a new one that I ran across this week.

On one of my Premieres, the number of shows available on the Now Playing List would be empty even though I had recorded something. Looking at the the recording history showed that the shows were be deleted because of "Space Needed". As soon as I would record a show, it would get deleted no matter what show on whatever channel.

At first, I suspected a hard drive error, ran the kickstart tests, but all seem fine. Then I remembered that I had clicked on both the Netflix and Flingo icons earlier in the week but didn't really think about it. I never went through the NetFlix logon process, but looking at settings showed that me Premiere was linked even no account information about NetFlix had been entered. I deactivated Netflix & rebooted, and still had the same problem. Finally, I decided to Delete & clear everything and set of the Premiere from scratch. After I re-setup my Tivo, everything went back to normal and shows stayed in my NPL.

I suspect that the incomplete Netflix launch chewed up gobs of space on my hard drive and that is what caused my shows to be deleted so quickly.

No signal switching from Cable Card to Cable Box (Comcast)

Fri, 02/15/2013 - 00:28
I have had a Tivo Premiere for a while and always used a cable card with no problem. I have Comcast and live in the Chicago area.

Recently I had to downgrade my cable to the free cable offered by my condo building. I have a small black box from Comcast that receives analog signal. When the cable is hooked up to my TV I have no problem receiving the signal. I receive a variety of channels from including USA, Animal Planet, TNT, ION, etc.

However, I have not been able to hook the box up to my TiVo and receive a signal.

I have gone through the guided setup several times. The TiVo recognizes a signal and is able to pull all the channel/program information. When I am on a channel, I see all the ''channel' information, but no signal. I just see the searching for signal on this cable channel message.

I feel like I am bouncing back and forth between Comcast and TiVo and have no idea what to do.

Will I ever be able to use TiVo Premier with this basic cable box?

The Office 2/14/13 "Moving On"

Fri, 02/15/2013 - 00:06
Wow, looks like we might see the documentary as the series finale after all.

As for the rest of this week: that was...one of the more awful hours of television I've seen in some time. Why couldn't Andy have died at sea?

Premiere 4 can only record about 200 hour long SD shows--NOT 650!!

Thu, 02/14/2013 - 22:34
For two months now my Xmas Premiere 4, 500 GB HDD, has been recording in increments of 2.1 GB per one half hour of 480i SD programing! Someone at TiVo suggested that I'm awaiting a firmware update, but offerred no further insight. Anyone else?!

Flingo, TiVo Partner to Bring Streaming Content to DVR

Thu, 02/14/2013 - 21:56
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2415465,00.asp

Quote: TiVo has integrated Flingo's LaunchPad video platform into its line of Premiere boxes, adding more than 70 streaming on-demand video apps to the set-top devices. That includes content from TMZ, A&E, History, Showtime, TV Guide, and others. Owners can also access exclusive content via Launchpad for TiVo Looks like its available for the Premiere beginning today...Slowly, but surely there may be reason to upgrade my THDs

Closed Captioning for Xfinity On Demand?

Thu, 02/14/2013 - 20:25
Does anyone know how to turn on closed captioning for Xfinity On Demand on a Tivo Premier? I have CC turned on in the Tivo setup and it works fine for live TV and recordings. It also works for Netflix because the Netflix app has a way to turn it on. I just can't find a place to turn it on for Xfinity On Demand. The shows I'm watching do say "CC" in the description so I'm assuming that means they have CC.

Thanks,
DM

Walking Dead B&W won't auto-record with SP, not in Recording History

Thu, 02/14/2013 - 19:05
I have a SP for TWD on AMCHD via Mediacom on a TiVo HD. It is not auto-scheduling the B&W episodes. TWD is my #1 SP. This despite the fact they show in the view upcoming episodes for the SP. Recording History does not have an entry for them telling me it won't record them

2/14 next round of upgrade offers?

Thu, 02/14/2013 - 15:26
It figures. I'm finally able to upgrade/replace my S2 with Lifetime with a Premiere, and there are no current upgrade specials. Any one have any idea when the next round of offers will come?

I do see that I'd get $100 off on Lifetime service, if I go that route. I'm just looking for more :)

Monday Mornings Season Thread

Thu, 02/14/2013 - 14:35
Has anyone watched this David E. Kelley show.
Hospital procedural drama.

I like it, you should check it out.Monday nights on TNT.
Unfortunately the ratings look kinda low, so I don't know how long it will last.

Which used Tivo should I buy?

Thu, 02/14/2013 - 14:29
I'm looking to switch from my cable-provided DVR to a Tivo with a lifetime subscription, and looking for some advice on a used unit to purchase.

We have only the most basic TV channels from our cable provider (local networks plus shopping channels). Someday we hope to go to an antenna, but we are in a difficult location for reception.

I plan to use the Tivo to record a handful of network shows that I watch - mostly stuff on PBS, and some kids shows on the weekends. More than anything, we use the DVR to pause and rewind live TV.

I don't think we need a huge amount of storage, especially since most things get deleted as soon as they are watched. The kids shows often get kept for repeat viewings. HD would be nice to have (for the PBS shows).

I am looking to keep the cost down as much as possible since our use is fairly limited. I'm looking for suggestions for a used unit that would meet our needs and save us some money.

Thanks for your input!

Happy Endings moving to Friday, so ABC can run another crappy reality show

Thu, 02/14/2013 - 14:27
http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/201...friday/169439/

Quote: ABC announces midseason scheduling moves, with “Celebrity Wife Swap,” the reality series that shines a light on how controversial celebrities really live their lives, returning on TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 26 with all-new episodes, and competitive cooking show “The Taste” moving back an hour, starting that same night. Beginning FRIDAY, MARCH 29, critically acclaimed comedy “Happy Endings” will move to Friday nights, airing back-to-back original episodes from 8:00-9:00 p.m., ET. WTF ABC? Do that many people really watch this reality crap? I'm guessing this is the kiss of death for Happy Endings. Friday night burnoff of remaining episodes.

This is one more night I now watch nothing on ABC {sigh}
