So I got an email from TiVo offering to upgrade to the Roamio, but the only one of the 8 DVRs on my account that is acceptable for the upgrade is the single Premiere that I have. Why not the TiVo HD that never saw a real HD interface? Why the Series 3 that never saw single M-card support and had those lovely bad capacitors? Or any of the Old Series 2's that didn't make the last upgrade offer?
Nope, just the Premiere, the only one that I own that actually gets new features.
Californication is finished
after the upcoming 7th season...
Hi all, I'm considering a pretty drastic change to our household TiVo usage and wanted to get the thoughts & advice of the forum before I pulled the trigger. So here goes... :)
Current setup is a pair of Premiere units connected to Comcast Digital Cable, one in the Media room and one in the Bedroom. Both wired into the home network and using HDMI for A/V. Both have been upgraded to 2TB HDs. Both use Streambaby to stream/pull content from our Media Server (A Mac Mini dedicated to the task). This Mac Mini also uses AirVideoHD to stream content to iOS devices (but NOT from the TiVos themselves, have to rip the content from the TiVo units to the server first in order to do that).
I'm considering the move to a Roamio Pro, primarily to get the built-in iOS streaming so my lady can watch native TiVo content on her iPad from anywhere, and not just content that's been ripped to the server.
To that end, I'm looking at getting a Roamio Pro to live in the Media Center, and a TiVo Mini to live in the bedroom. This has the benefit of a smaller footprint and more importantly, it's silent (a definite consideration in the bedroom). This would give us 450 hours of HD which is only a modest amount less than we have currently between the 2 Premieres, and the only impact I see it really having is that we'd get fewer suggestions (we have a LOT of free space generally since upgrading the units).
I believe this would give us the same basic features we have now of a TiVo in both rooms, but at a reduced monthly expense (I'd get lifetime on the Mini, monthly on the Roamio) since I don't intend to keep the Premieres active. And we'd get the added bonus of being able to stream content directly to our iOS devices.
So that's the general lay of the land. Now for my questions, in no particular order...
1. Does this generally sound right? Anything I missed or special considerations with the above scenario?
2. For those who have a Roamio/Mini combination, how do you like it? Any complaints?
3. Does TiVo still restrict the streaming functionality from working on Jailbroken iOS devices, even for legit paying customers?
4. Can I run HDMI video out of the Mini to the TV, but analog audio into the old receiver I use in the bedroom?
5. Is the Roamio storage capacity upgradeable via any standard external drive or is it restricted to just the WD MyBook that they sell through TiVo?
6. If we take the Premiere units off our plan, can they be used just to watch whatever is stored on them currently, like in a guest or spare bedroom? Or are they useless bricks without monthly service? Any suggestions on what to do with them if they can't be used as simple dumb playback devices?
7. Do I use the current CableCard from one of the Premiere units in the Roamio? Or do I need a new one? Does the Mini need one too?
8. Insert question I didn't think to ask here. :)
Thanks all, this is a pretty significant potential change to our setup so I want to make sure I've done some homework first!
I can't seem to figure out if this was another first season episode, a new second season episode, or just a special, but either way my wife and I watched this last night.
I liked the idea of doing two couples as opposed to one couple. However I just want to say that I was convinced the whole thing had to be staged when the two couples found each other at the waterfall site while both out walking around the woods. Too convenient for a first feature showing two couples. But then the woman who got dengue fever!:eek::eek: Maybe it is staged, but these people are still roughing it and the danger is real.
As to the contestants themselves, the blonde girl needed a reality check. My wife and I loved it when she tried to call out the other three as treating her poorly and this opened the floodgates for the other three to lay into her about her sunbathing.
Other notables were the two different fish traps being compared side by side and how crappy blondie's was compared to the other woman's basket, dude killed an anteater by crawling 50 feet to bash it on the head, and the trees with the thorns growing out of their sides. OUCH!
Is there a way to monitor what has been watched on the tivio?
When searching and filtering results, I noticed many of the results are listed as "not currently available". For example, I did an actor search on Jennifer Lawrence and it listed 22 TV shows and ALL were "not currently available". In fact, it listed her being on the Today on 11/21/12. Really, a show from 1 year ago that I have zero chance of seeing. I'm guessing it's listing all these shows so you can create a wish list. Well, on my wish list is to have an option to just list only currently available shows.
Just my $0.02.
I'm new to the Roamio and Mini, and so far I have been very pleased and impressed with the speed and functionality coming from a TiVoHD.
There's one quirk which I am curious if it is a bug, or just how it is designed to work. When I turn my TV on that is connected to the Mini, I am greeted with the message to press TiVo or Live TV. My desired function for when I turn my TV on is for the Mini to detect the HDMI signal from my TV being turned on, and then just go straight to live TV. Is what I'm experiencing normal? Thanks
I'm currently (now) recording 2 x movies on TIVO. This is good.
I've watched one (separate) movie which was/is set to NOT DELETE.
i want to change it so it deletes / expires in a week, and tivo advises it will; NOT record (or stop recording) one of the two movies its currently recording - due to insufficient disk space. I'll wait till it stops recording & then change the settings of my movie ive just watched.
ISSUE - if i have a programme that is set to not delete, & then change it to expire - would this not free up MORE space (& in theory delete programmes earlier ?)
why would it stop the currently-recording movie ?
Is this fixable ? (re-programme of TIVO programme & then upgrade the next time a person connects to the tovo EPG etc..)
PS, I'm in NZ.
EDIT: 1 of the movies has now finished, & i was able to edit my older movie to delete in a week. Must bea n error when recording 2 shows at a time ??
EDIT: version 11.3b6-01-2-663
I understand that the basic Romeo remote with the new RF dongle that comes with the new slide will work with premier TiVo. anyone know if this RF remote will work on the premiere at the same time as an existing bluetooth original slide remote? i mirror a premier to two different rooms and I'd like to keep one remote in each room.
Just bought a new Roamio and Mini. Should arrive this week. If we transfer our subscription will we still be able to watch the recordings on our HD XL? Just looking to watch what's in the now playing list so we can get caught up on our shows. Don't want to record anything new. Do we still need an active subscription for the old unit? Thx!
I am very happy with the winners!
And Travis is a major BUTT! Did he do so many of the early roadblocks that Nicole had to do all of the later ones? If not, STFU and do them yourself! I wound up feeling bad for Nicole. But she really was bad at those challenges!
And finally, no idiot taxi drivers affecting the outcome.
You know you've seen too much Homeland when you wouldn't buy for a second that Brody had gone all Muslim again. I was NOT in suspense.
Once again, WHEN are they gonna stop sending Carrie on missions where she can defy her orders. "Get on a plane!"
Once again, is Carrie the other field operative the CIA has? No one else could have gone? How about Quinn?
No one noticed the white woman walking around? Security watched her check into the hotel but doesn't follow her when she promptly goes directly to her contact? Oh yeah. She used the back door.
Prediction: Javardi gets the call to sneak into the office and get Brody out.
I lose the signal to my center speaker periodically during live and recording playback. I've noticed it on CBS, but not other channels. Sometimes the commercials lose it, but not the programs; sometimes one commercial loses it while another doesn't. Now the programming is losing it.
A search shows this was a big topic in the Premiere era. But there is no recent discussion I could find.
I'm at a loss to identify the source of the problem, but it only started happening recently, after I changed to Roamio.
My Roamio Plus has gone into standby twice today:
- When I came downstairs this morning, I found the Roamio in standby; it must have gone into standby some time overnight.
- This evening, we paused a Netflix movie for a quick family dinner break. After being paused for some time (maybe 7-10 minutes?), the Roamio put itself into standby again.
Is anyone else seeing this behavior? We've had our Roamio for a month, but this behavior just started. Why would it put itself into standby during a Netflix movie? I thought TiVos only put themself into standby when explicitly selected by the user.
I have a lifetimed S2 that was displaying a message about the DVR being shut down due to getting too hot.
So I unplugged it, opened it, and cleaned out the dust. It did seem like after cleaning it, the fan spins faster than it did before, so maybe the dust was slowing down the fan speed causing the overheating.
The problem is, when I try to power it on, I do hear the fan spinning, but there's no video, other than a faint white flicker that kind of scrolls down the screen. So no TiVo starting up screen or anything.
Does this mean the TiVo is dead, or might there be something else I can try?
My wife is worried about two things:
1) There are lots of shows on the HD she doesn't want to lose. I told her maybe the problem is with the motherboard, and maybe her shows can still be salvaged from the HD
2) Her To Do list has lots of stuff, that she would like to record, but right now, the TiVo no worky.
I'd love it if the TiVo can be saved, but if not, it'd be nice if my lifetime sub doesn't have to be forfeited. Years ago I lost an S1 due to motherboard problems, and I lucked out with customer service, as they let me as one-time favor, transfer my lifetime from it, to a TiVo HD. They did say "one time favor", so unlike a cat, I may not have two lives, let alone nine.
If I have to replace the TiVo, my wife did say she'd prefer an S2, and not a Premier or whatever's on the market these days, because Time Warner copyrights a heapload of her shows, preventing her from using HMO, but S2's seem to be exempt from this copywriting shenanigans.
Hi, first time post. Looking for a Image for my SVR-2000 I am using Winmfs to load it I need a .TBK. 30GB Drive Thanks for your help.
I also found DvrBARS software and downloaded it so if you have a VHD file for the SVR-2000. I have a 30GB disk that I would like to re-image since it seems corrupt.
Again thanks for your help. BDM351
Forgive me if this has already been discussed, but a google search has sent me on a goose chase.
I have a TiVo Premiere XL4. I travel a lot for business and would love to take my shows on the road, but ONLY if I can have closed captioning. I am considering purchasing an iPad for this sole primary purpose. I would go as far as being willing to transfer the shows to my iPad before leaving home, as I am more of a fan of recorded shows over live television.
Will TiVo Stream provide the means to take the captioning with me?
For clarification of the title:
Possible to stream live TV from Roamio to a TV that has no cable outlet?
• Roamio Plus in living room, connecting via MoCA (i.e., cable outlet)
• Second TV in kitchen, where there's no cable or ethernet option
• Airport wifi throughout the house
• Spare TiVo Premier box
Is it possible to connect the spare TiVo Premier to the kitchen TV, then stream live television from the Roamio? If not, is there another way to accomplish the same?
Due to the design and construction of my house, an over-the-air decoder gets almost no signal...installing a cable outlet (or MoCA, as a result) would be impossible without ripping into fragile wall tile, then tearing out part of another wall.
Would love a way to stream live TV to the countertop set in there. Any ideas...?
Thanks in advance!
Anyone else see the new youtube app?
The OS has not changed.
The netflix app has not changed.
The new youtube app seems to give better controls....
