I'm a new TiVo customer and am enjoying my TiVo Premiere's immensely with one major caveat. I purchased two brand new Premiere XL4's with lifetime service approximately two weeks and have not been successful in getting suggestions to work at all on either TiVo - until today. Unfortunately my cable provider (BrightHouse) employs an SDV network so tuning adapters are necessary. That said, I see many others having the same issues with suggestions not recording if a tuning adapter is in use. I have been in contact with TiVo at least 6 times regarding this issue and was told everything from - wait 28 days, to my cable company is blocking/filtering suggestions. I then contacted my cable provider and spoke with a headend engineer as well as a cable card/tuning adapter specialist who emphatically denied any blocking/filtering of any sort. I then tried the workaround by putting my tuning adapter on a timer - low and behold I woke up today to a long list of suggestions. It is now apparent to me that this has nothing to do with my cable provider but rather the way TiVo communicates with tuning adapters be it a bug or some strange anomaly. I've also noticed that if my tuning adapter is connected to my TiVo, I cannot tune ANY channels from within the cablecard/tuning adapter diagnostics as it thinks no channels are available, yet I can tune/record every channel while watching/recording live TV. Also, the other day I couldn't tune an SDV channel suggesting that there was no signal, yet I could record that very channel during this time! Even if my cable company were in some way blocking these requests, TiVo should still be able to populate a list of suggestions even if it can't record them which isn't the case. Tuning adapter connected = no list of suggestions. People, we need to make sure TiVo understands the severity of this issue and takes the necessary steps to correct it, as I'm getting that feeling they're passing the buck on this one and that concerns me as I'm now over $1,700 into this investment and only want to enjoy the full features of my TiVo's. My case has been escalated to a level 2 tech so we'll see where it goes.
I only hope more people will bring this issue to the forefront with TiVo and hopefully we'll get a fix sooner than later...
When watching (for example) channel 809. I have scrolled back 25 minutes into the buffer (6:10 pm) and am currently watching the buffered channel. A news show is scheduled to begin recording at 6:30 pm on the same channel. When 6:30 rolls around, the 6:30 news begins to display on the TV (and is recording) regardless of where I am in the buffer, I have lost all the buffer from the previous show. The pointer goes RIGHT to 6:30 on the green bar, and there is no buffer behind it.
I have done this nightly for several months. It was never like this before. I was always able to continue viewing the buffer regardless of what was recording.

I love the annual Phil with his "my name is..." sticker trying to pick up Claire at the hotel bar....
I have Verizon FIOS for my TV, Internet and phone. I have the latest Verizon supplied Actiontec router which is MOCA capable. I have 2 Tivo Premieres (one XL) 2 tuner models. My Tivos are connected to the internet with wireless G adaptors. I want to do multi room viewing between the 2 tivos. Trying wirelessly is unacceptable. I was told by Tivo tech support that I need to use MOCA. They also told me Verizon Fios since Sept 2012 is MOCA enabled, and if my router is MOCA enabled I don't need to do anything else, such as adding MOCA adaptors. Problem is, I can't get it to do anything but try to keep using the wireless G. I don't know how to get it to work, or if I do need some extra equipment. Has anyone done this? And how?
BTW, I don't inderstand a lot of what I wrote about MOCA.
Well that was a long time coming for me. I was sitting in my chaise bawling like a 5 year old. Not even ashamed. This show just continues to surprise me and tear my insides to shreds.
And finally!! Character growth! Brother connection that felt REAL. Felt familiar and organic and not contrived. This season the last few episodes is finally feeling like the show I've come to love so much. I'm almost forgetting that Sam didn't look for his brother. The one he's now [once again] convincing he has a reason to live.
These speeches both made me cry rivers, especially Sam's back to Dean at the end:
Dean: I need you to be safe, Sam. We’ve been down roads like this before, man…we both know where this ends. One of us dies or worse.
Sam: So what? You just decided that’s you?
Dean: I'm a grunt, Sam -- you're not, you've always been the brains of this operation. You told me yourself that you see a way out, you see a light at the end of this ugly ass tunnel ... I don't. I'll tell you what I do know; I'm gonna die with a gun in my hand, that's what I have waiting for me, that's all I have waiting for me. I want you to get out, I want you to have a life, become a Man of Letters, whatever. You with a wife and kids and grandkids, living 'til you're fat and bald and chugging viagra ... that is my perfect ending, and it's the only one that I'm gonna get. So I’m going to do these trials, and I’m going to do them alone. End of story.
Sam: It’s a suicide mission for you. I want to slam Hell shut, too, but I wanna survive it, I want to live, and so should you. You have friends up here, family ... hell, you've even got your own room now. You're right, okay? I see light at the end of this tunnel and I'm sorry you don't, but it's there, and if you come with me, I can take you to it.
Dean: Sam, be smart.
Sam: I am smart, and so are you. You're not a grunt, Dean, you're a genius -- when it comes to lore ... you're the best damn hunter I've ever seen, better than me, better than dad. I believe in you, Dean, so please, please, believe in me too.
Just kill me now. Seriously. There is no show I've ever watched in my entire life that had the ability to make me cry like a child. I should be embarrassed by that but I don't even care. That's how great I think this show is. I am going to be lost when it ends. I am more attached to these fictional character than I am to people I know in real life. Sad but true.
Okay so other thoughts. The hellhounds were really cool. I was impressed by the graphics of the show. I loved how they showed Sam literally bathing in its blood as he sliced it open above him. Very cool.
Dean has his own room!! And a picture of his mom. Gah. Sam smiling at it was sweet. And memory foam! It remembers him! Oh Dean. And him cooking for Sam. Cripes these two. (when he said he didn't realize Dean knew what a kitchen was, all I could think about was Dean in Season 6. The opening of the premier where he's cooking for Lisa and Ben :()
And can I say how happy I am that Sam finally got to save his brother from the Hellhound that he couldn't do at the end of Season 3. Imagine how satisfying that had to be for him. It sure was for me! I really like that Sam is the one doing the trials. I just assumed it would be Dean. Sam needs a win. He needs to be the hero of the season FOR ONCE. Thank you writers for seeing that and acting on it. I'm tired of Sam being the kicked dog, the one always struggling with his dark side. Gosh this is just such a nice surprise for me, you don't even know.
I could go on but I'll give you guys a chance for input before I add more. :)
Well, I think they're off to a good start for this season. A nice mix of new and old IMO.
Sucks to be Francesca. I guess she simply doesn't have it in her to sit back and just "go along" for a few days. I'm glad Andrea made it. Phillip doesn't seem nearly as crazy this time around.
Gotta love (to hate) the young good looking contingent of the Fans tribe. They will go early. I was impressed that they got a fire started. Seems like after all these years at least a few people have woke up enough to learn a bit beforehand.

I have a series 3 with lifetime service that I no longer use and need to sell. I did a "delete everything", but I'm not sure how to go about deactivating the box from my account and transfering it to the new owner. What do I need to do on my end to prepare the tivo for the new owner and make sure my personal info and account is safe.
Using Tivo Stream (which in my opinion is the greatest invention since sliced bread), I've loaded up about 100 hours of programming onto an external hard drive and gone away for 6 weeks with my laptop. Since the laptop has Tivo desktop on it, I can of course play the recorded Tivo shows on my hard drive, through the laptop. Trouble is, I can't use the laptop for anything else while I'm watching.
Today I got a promo email from Slingbox, which I also own (the Slingbox 500, the second-greatest invention since sliced bread), where they discuss Slingbox for connected devices, specifially the Netgear TV, the WD TV, and the Sony Internet player. These devices allow you to watch your Slingbox on a TV, instead of your laptop. I was thinking, how neat would it be if I could buy one of those devices and use it both for accessing my home Slingbox, AND for viewing my Tivo recording on the external hard drive. I can't seem to find any place that addresses the issue of whether any of those external devices would recognize the Tivo recordings on my hard drive, since they are proprietary Tivo format, I guess. In particular, I thought maybe WD, since they make the Tivo extra storage devices, might be compatible? Anybody have any knowledge on this subject? Thanks!
I can't get a wish list to pick up walking dead black and white version. Any suggestions?
What's that sniffling sound?
Cristina? Are you OK?!?
Do they have any deals for coming back to TiVo? My family left a few years ago because of a combination of Comcast launching HD in our area and the hard drive dying in the S2. I thought about ripping a hard drive out of an old PC, imaging it for the S2, moving it over to a new account, and plugging it in for a few days with an Ethernet cable to get the MSD on a new box, but I realized that was a ridiculous hassle for $100. I'm very dissatisfied with my new Media PC, and I want to come back to TiVo, but $900 for the 2TB TiVo is just pushing it a little, especially when I do have a functional (if annoying) quad-tuner DVR now.
When TiVo Mini comes out, I want to try and get my parents back on TiVo as well, as with Comcast's current pricing they would do well with a Premiere XL4 and Mini, and they would get XOD (Motorola system, I'm on an SA system). At that point could I activate it on my account with MSD, and then transfer it over to theirs to save the $100?
why cant i get any listings for the qam channels for twc i can get them all fine, i connected to the service twice and still no listings? they are the same channel numbers that the ota antenna picks up such as 4-1 etc. thanks for your help if anyone can help me out?
After perusing the "suggested" threads at thread creation, I still need to go ahead and post this. (YAY my first post on the forums)
We have a Tivo HD (Series 3) and just upgraded to Bright House Indiana's standard and digital packages from basic. However, I'm about to just cut ties with them altogether.
We already had a cableCARD installed for a couple years on the basic programming, but after three weeks of fiddling with it on the new channels they finally informed me that I needed a tuning adapter (no wonder it wouldn't work). A tech (private contractor) came out to install that, but since then I still am having trouble.
I can see the channels when I go to them and in the guide on my Tivo (DISNHD, ABCHD, etc). But the Tivo won't download any program information. Every channel (HD or SD) beyond the local channels and basic package channels say no information available in the guide. Therefore, I can record nothing. Not only am I getting charged for a month of service without actually getting it, my wife is worried that Duck Dynasty will be starting soon without being able to record it.
After multiple calls to the service department, many hours on hold, and three different techs at the house in the past month, Bright House has informed me it is the fault of the Tivo and not their signal. So they're not going to do anything more to help.
Now, I'm pretty technically proficient, but whatever is wrong is beyond me. Granted, I should have researched this more before just barging ahead with Bright House and moving up their food chain. But I didn't.
Could you please point me in the direction of a "how-to" for personally installing the adapter or give me some advice to get this figured out? I'm at a loss and ready to jump ship over to Dish for their free Hopper DVR promotion. But I'd much rather just figure it out and stick with Bright House. Thanks for any help you can provide.
I'm not seeing anybody else reporting this, but I'm having a minor problem with my Tivo Premiere. I'm not sure if the problem is with my remote(s) or the box.
When I go to the My Shows menu, if Netflix is highlighted because it was the last thing used, it very frequently goes directly into the Netflix app without a second click. So, if I want to watch anything else on the My Shows menu, I have to very quickly use the up arrow. I have two different Tivo remotes, the standard peanut and the slider keyboard one. I've seen this behavior with both. And, I'm certain that I'm not double clicking the Tivo button because it's a pain to have it go into Netflix and have to wait for Netflix to stop loading before I can try to get to My Shows again.
Will TiVo be discounting their lifetime on MSD's. Thinking of activating another premier. Just got a new 75HD unit for 35 from Best Buy :):) but I do dread going thru the cablecard thing with TWC. Thanks for the replies. Paul
I just purchased a Premiere, I previously had two Series 2. I could transfer a 30 minute show recorded on one S2 to the other S2 (recorded at 'High' setting) in about 15 minutes using wireless usb G adapters. Now when I try and transfer the same show from the S2 to the new Premiere it takes an hour! This is unacceptable, I can't even start a transfer and watch it right away. Any ideas? I have the Premiere hooked up to the wireless network using a wireless N bridge. My transfer rates are between 3 and 4Mb/s.
Thanks in advance.
The hard drive in my Tivo HD was upgraded 5 years ago to a 1TB drive. Because of the age of the drive I would like to replace it with a new drive before it fails.
I purchased a WD20EURS 2TB drive. I know that I cannot get more than 1TB of space.
Do I just use WINMFS with this command:
backup -qTao - /dev/sda | restore -s 128 -xzpi - /dev/sdb
I know I need to make sure that sda and sdb are the correct drives.
I've been a TiVo customer for a long time. I bought a TiVo Series 1, back when it carried the Philips label. Recently I bought a TiVo Premiere for my HDTV. I'm willing to pay for a TiVo box, even though my cable company's DVR would be cheaper, because I like TiVo's user interface. That's the heart of TiVo's business model, as I understand it: a premium user experience for a premium price.
When I began using my TiVo Premiere, I was slightly annoyed that there is no way to turn off the "recommendations" display at the top of the TiVo Central screen. These recommendations are supposedly based on my viewing habits, but lately they also include ads for paper towels and toilet paper. I'm pretty sure that my viewing habits don't suggest any unusual interest in paper products. Apparently TiVo's "recommendations" are for sale to the highest bidder. This diminishes their value and makes me wish there were a way to remove this clutter from my screen.
I was even more dismayed to find that, when I use rewind or fast-forward, the scroll bar is often decorated with another ad. My reaction was, "Seriously? Ads on a scroll bar?" When I am trying to skip ahead in some recorded show, I am definitely not looking for a discount coupon for toilet paper. This visual clutter serves only to make me annoyed, both with TiVo and the company that bought the ad.
It seems that TiVo is turning into just another company that is trying to auction my eyeballs to the highest bidder. There are plenty of other companies doing this, and they do not command premium prices or customer loyalty. I'm beginning to wonder why users should continue to pay a premium price for TiVo service.
My normal behavior is to pause the show I'm watching (from My Shows, never live), turn off the TV, and expect to return later to continue watching the show where I paused it. This worked flawlessly on my old HD. But on the Premiere, I frequently find that it's jumped to live TV when I come back in the morning after having paused the night before. Then I have to go search thru My Shows to try to remember where I was. Why??? And can it be avoided?
The first couple times it happened, it seemed like it might be because I had new messages, but that's no longer the case. And it doesn't happen every day, but often enough to be annoying. This is my biggest annoyance with the Premiere, second only to the lack of a button for "return to the recorded show I was watching, and which is tantalizingly playing in the preview window, but Tivo hasn't seen fit to provide any way to get straight to". Grr.
